Chapter 875: Saints Are Immortal

. Saints never die.

This fact is also recorded in Imperial history.

Grit is certainly not the first living saint in Imperial history.

Rather, there have been quite a few saints throughout Imperial history.

However, the vast majority of these “saints” are posthumously canonized. They are typically the Pope of the State Church, a highly respected Cardinal, or a highly renowned Imperial figure with outstanding contributions—often with a hidden requirement: they must have a strong relationship with the State Church.

Needless to say, these are simply posthumous honors, primarily honorific, and not uncommon. A

“living saint,” as the name suggests, is a living “saint.” Being canonized by the State Church before death is much more difficult.

Generally speaking, the State Church does not engage in such a significant sharing of its religious authority. Even canonizing a living member, even a Pope, often faces significant resistance.

So, how can the State Church be persuaded to do so?

This often happens when someone with unparalleled faith and achievements that cannot be ignored emerges. If the state church doesn’t canonize this person as a “saint,” not only will it not affect their authority, it could even undermine their own.

From this perspective, the criteria are actually quite idealistic. What does it mean to have unparalleled faith? What does it mean to have achievements that cannot be ignored? Aren’t those things just for people to say?

The state church naturally avoids canonization if it can.

Or, if it encounters a situation that is particularly beneficial to its own interests, it will do whatever it can to canonize, even if it doesn’t meet the criteria.

These situations all exist.

However, there is only one situation that forces the state church to act without hesitation: the resurrection of someone with great achievements.

Similar situations have only occurred to a handful of battle sisters over the past ten thousand years. Their life stories vary, often involving death in a desperate battle, only to be resurrected and return to lead the human army to victory.

Resurrection! The very act itself is a monumental symbol!

Who can return from the dead? They must have died a glorious death in battle, passed beneath the Golden Throne, and received the Emperor’s grace, with unfinished business, before they can return to the mortal realm.

As for black magic? Demonic conspiracy? Resurrected zombies?

Forget it. Look at the spectacle of their resurrection, look at the Emperor’s Flame they wield. Who dares to talk about sorcery?

It’s clearly the pure blessing of the Emperor!

Of course, the Ecclesiarchy and the Inquisition are always wary of such supernatural phenomena. Furthermore, they generally don’t want to canonize a person for sainthood, so they will rigorously examine whether the so-called “resurrection” is a conspiracy.

This alone may not be enough; there’s also the aspect of merit.

But these resurrected Battle Sisters often truly return to the mortal realm with a deep sense of mission. They not only win the wars they’re resurrected for, but long into the future, they will appear on crucial battlefields, making crucial moves and guiding humanity to victory.

Some of these victories are even won at the cost of their own sacrifice. Yet, they often staged another dramatic resurrection.

In short, these crucial victories, coupled with the resurrection from the dead, earned them the title of “Saint,” a title well-deserved.

Strictly speaking, was Grit a Living Saint?

No.

Sainthood required the Ecclesiarchy to confer it.

But that wasn’t the point. The core of a Living Saint lay in their strength, their faith, and their achievements.

From this perspective, Grit wasn’t a

Living Saint either. She hadn’t proven herself to possess these qualities.

So why was she immediately recognized as one?

The halo behind her head, the white angel wings sprouting from her back—these were classic symbols of a Living Saint. Every Living Saint in the past had this appearance.

The resemblance, the similar fighting style, immediately convinced her sisters.

And now, her resurrection fulfilled what she lacked. Her

grand reappearance in this manner undoubtedly proved her faith.

Only those recognized by the Emperor and with unfinished missions could return.

…

Opening her eyes, Grit’s piercing gaze fixed on Broken Bone below.

White Wings soared into the air, her halberd unleashing a torrent of golden flames and thunder!

A green Waagh force field suddenly appeared, blocking out the flames and thunder. Broken Bone roared in anger, thrusting her battle axe upwards, striking the resurrected saint in a decisive blow.

But he would pay a price.

Three Chosen Champions, over twenty surviving Chapter Champions, and countless psychics swarmed against him constantly, firing bullets, psychic spells, and blades in various forms.

Yet, he could no longer swiftly and effectively counter these attacks as he had before, or risk his injuries in exchange for human deaths.

This was because of the angel before him.

The resurrected Gritt fought even more recklessly and ferociously than before her death.

With the power of resurrection, her strength and momentum were even greater.

Meanwhile, the injured Broken Bone was no longer as formidable as before.

He couldn’t swiftly kill Gritt as he had at the beginning. Even if he could, he would have to wonder if the Sister-in-Chief, who had been resurrected once, could rise again.

Nor could he turn around and recklessly kill the other three Chosen Champions. Gritt would be attacked without hesitation if given an opportunity similar to what Ewing had faced earlier. Even if it cost him his life in exchange for serious injury, it would be completely worth it. After all, there was a chance Grit would return.

For the first time during the confrontation, the thought of losing entered Bonebreaker’s mind.

Like a curse, the thought, once formed, permeated his mind.

For a greenskin as wily as he, such an unwieldy thought was more deadly than any poison—his aura was suppressed, and his body weakened.

He began to lose, and he began to fight conservatively. But the more he fought, the more his wounds appeared, the faster they appeared, and the slower they healed.

He was losing.

…

“Roar!”

Gu Hang’s ears stung from the roars of the two greenskin gods.

He knew they were furious.

Just as he could observe the battle on the ground, so too could Gomao.

They could tell Bonebreaker was about to lose.

Would they accept defeat?

Not at all.

A powerful greenskin force seemed to tear open the warp and pass to Bonescrow.

The greenskin gods tried to increase the pressure on their favored ones.

In fact, they were also very dissatisfied with Bonescrow’s hesitation at the moment. That was too unworthy and should not appear on their favored ones.

But they had no choice now.

This war was too crucial, and they did not want to lose.

If they lost, the greenskins could not be wiped out, but it would take who knows how many years to train another king who would be famous throughout the universe and could unite the orcs.

But…

“How can I let you succeed?”

“You didn’t let me get out before, and now you want to cheat?”

“Dream on!”

From the Kingdom of Storm God, a giant thunder bear emerged, so conspicuous in the invisible and uncertain waves of the warp.

The power that was about to fall into the real universe was swallowed by the giant bear.
