Only at the Mahayana Stage Does the Reversal System Appear - Chapter 461
Chapter 459: Goo, Kill Me
! “It seems it didn’t work.” Jiang Li sensed no change. He knew neither weapon forging nor alchemy, nor the Way of Time.
Lance’s sister, Phyllis, looked at Jiang Li with resentment.
What kind of church is it without a statue of a god?
Jiang Li casually formed seven statues and returned them to the church.
Jiang Li did know some basic forging techniques.
Originally, Jiang Li had intended to give Phyllis his own statue as compensation. He was undoubtedly more powerful than the seven gods, and his statue was naturally more valuable than the seven god statues.
But Jiang Li thought again. If he couldn’t give people skills, then placing a statue of himself seemed pointless.
“Let’s put the skills aside for now. Let’s go and continue our journey.”
Lance was puzzled. What journey?
Jiang Li said sternly, “As a legendary hero, of course I must defeat the Demon King. Remember what I said when I invited you to join the team?”
“I said we should team up and defeat the Demon King together,”
Lance said with a strange look on his face.
Well, this great man’s strength was undeniable; defeating the Demon
King was no problem. Lance felt a lack of accomplishment simply because he’d relied on Jiang Li’s strength
to defeat the Demon King. Phyllis said respectfully, “Master Jiang Li, according to the gods’ prophecy, the warrior who defeats the Demon King will conquer four dungeons and obtain four legendary pieces of equipment: the Sword of the Brave, capable of severing all power; the Ring of the Brave, imbued with boundless magic; the Crown of the Brave, capable of resisting mind control; and the Shield of the Brave, capable of withstanding the Demon King’s attacks. Only by possessing these four weapons can the warrior possess the power to defeat the Demon King.”
Jiang Li was intrigued. “That’s quite a feat. Let’s go to the dungeons then.”
After bidding farewell to Phyllis, Lance embarked on a new journey.
Lance had a premonition that this would be a long one.
Half a minute later, Lance stood stunned at the entrance to the first dungeon.
Jiang Li turned and called out to him, “What are you standing there for? Come in and tell me about the dungeon.”
“Oh.” Lance came back to his senses and jogged to keep up with Jiang Li.
“The dungeon has dozens of floors, each filled with monsters. The lower you go, the higher the level of the monsters, and the more difficult it is to defeat them. And the most difficult monsters are the floor masters of the lowest levels.”
“I wonder if you’ve carefully read the quests issued by the guild. Most of them are related to dungeons. Countless adventurers take on quests, active in dungeons, fighting monsters, completing quests, and exchanging monster skins, fangs, and other items for gold.”
“And the greatest proof of an adventurer’s strength is to defeat the floor masters of the lowest levels. The brave team I was in successfully defeated six of the lowest floor masters. While it wasn’t the fastest in history, it had the lowest casualties.”
“Originally, I planned to conquer these four prophesied dungeons after we all became legendary adventurers. Now it seems impossible.”
At this point, Lance’s mouth curled into a wry smile.
Lance was about to say something when he heard a scream.
In front of him, several green-skinned monsters, waving wooden sticks, were besieging a female archer who had just revealed her beauty.
“Gu, kill me.” The female archer accepted her fate, knowing that there was no hope of escape.
Jiang Li waved his hand and threw the green-skinned monster away.
“This is a goblin, the most common demon along with slimes.” Lance originally wanted to help, but Jiang Li got there first, so all he could do now was explain.
“Thank you both for saving my life.” The female archer burst into tears of gratitude. If Jiang Li hadn’t helped, her fate could be imagined.
The female archer had fair skin, long light golden hair like a work of art, and her slightly long pointed ears trembled, as if she was frightened by the scene just now.
Obviously, the female archer was an elf.
Jiang Li pulled out a robe and draped it over the female archer, asking, “I’ve noticed your physique is far superior to those goblins. How did you end up like this?”
“I, I didn’t expect that. Goblins are just basic monsters, yet they were able to sneak up on me. I was careless, and a goblin hit me hard on the head with a stick.”
Lance frowned. “Going into the dungeon requires at least two adventurers. How come you’re the only one?”
“Forming a temporary team is too much trouble. I thought I just wanted to kill a few goblins, and it would be easy, but I didn’t expect it to turn out like this…” The female archer’s voice trailed off.
Lance shouted, “Stupid! Do you know how many adventurers die in the dungeon every year because of your arrogance? Goblins and slimes—you think they’re easy to defeat, but in reality, countless adventurers die at their hands!”
“I know I was wrong.” The female archer bowed her head and admitted her mistake. She truly knew she was wrong.
Jiang Li bent down, picked up a handful of dirt, and rubbed it between his fingers. He noticed that after the goblins died, they were absorbed by the dungeon.
“This dungeon is quite interesting. It’s set up with some kind of magical formation. Whenever a living being dies, the formation absorbs the energy dissipated at death, storing it until it can be taken away.”
“And every floor has this formation.” This is what Jiang Li saw with his spiritual sense.
“Master Jiang Li, are you saying that, regardless of whether it’s demon or human, if anyone dies in the dungeon, their energy will be absorbed by the dungeon?” Lance was stunned. He had never heard such a statement before.
“That’s not what I meant, that’s the truth.”
“Lance, let me ask you, how many fool adventurers like the female archer are there?”
“Countless. We grew up listening to legends about heroic adventurers. The adventurers in the stories were all brave, responsible, cherished their companions, and had extraordinary martial arts skills. When these adventurers formed a team, there was no enemy they couldn’t defeat.”
“The stories never said that heroic adventurers used strategies to defeat the enemy. The stories were all about adventurers breaking out in battle, their strength soaring, and killing the enemy. The captain of my original team was similar to the adventurer in the story.”
“It is precisely for this reason that many people feel that as long as they are united, they will be able to face monsters of similar level as themselves because they have more people and are united as one, so there is no way they can lose.”
“This leads to too many people mindlessly going forward and dying in the dungeon.”
Lance advocated planning before acting, which many considered a sign of cowardice.
Jiang Li analyzed, “Clearly, someone is interfering, forcing the adventurers and demons to slaughter each other, and this person is profiting from it.”
“Is this the Immortal Realm’s plan? No, even if the adventurers and demons fought to the death, they couldn’t kill every living being in the world. Adventurers are only a part of the human race, and there are many more humans who don’t need to fight the demons.”
“There are two possibilities: either this isn’t the Immortal Realm’s plan, or it’s just part of it.”
