Chapter 458 Rescue Failed

“Do you have alchemy, refining, or anything like that here?” Jiang Li described alchemy and refining.

“It sounds a lot like forging magic and potion-making magic.” Lance did his best to match alchemy and refining magic.

“Forging magic belongs to the God of Fire, and potion-making magic belongs to the God of Water. Forging magic requires strength, and potion-making magic requires the favor of the God of Water. I don’t meet either of those requirements.”

“But if it were you, the gods might be happy to grant you skills.”

Jiang Li bowed to the God of Fire: “Great…”

Starlight shone from the statue of the God of Fire, as if to grant Jiang Li skills, but before the starlight left the statue, it trembled continuously.

Bang—

the statue of the God of Fire exploded.

Jiang Li bowed to the God of Water again: “Please…”

Bang—

the statue of the God of Water exploded.

Lance: “…”

Phyllis: “…”

Their small place didn’t have the spare energy to carve new statues.

And why did the statues explode just because you, old man, bowed to them?

Neither brother nor sister could comprehend this.

Jiang Li reasoned, “Perhaps these two gods don’t think I’m suited to mastering weapon and alchemy, but they’re too embarrassed to refuse, so they just let the statues explode to save face for everyone.”

Lance thought Jiang Li’s analysis wasn’t unreasonable, but sheer nonsense.

Jiang Li put the two statues together, still determined, and continued trying: “Mastering space magic requires the consent of four gods. Which four?”

Lance pointed cautiously at the four statues: “The gods of earth, fire, wind, and water.”

“So it’s you four,”

Jiang Li shook his head and bowed.

The four statues exploded one after another.

Jiang Li sighed. “No respect! Is it so hard for me to learn the way of space?

Don’t panic. I haven’t tried the way of time yet. There’s still a chance.”

“How do I master time magic?”

Lance pondered for a moment. “Time magic is the most difficult. Only two adventurers in history have ever been gifted with it. These two adventurers were children of heaven, favored by all the gods. They prayed for the blessings of the seven gods before the statue in the imperial capital, and ultimately gained the ultimate skill—Freeze Time. Using ‘Freeze Time’, they can pause time for five seconds.”

“I’ll try again.”

Jiang Li kindly pieced together the seven statues and bowed.

The seven statues crumbled to dust, impossible to piece back together.

Phyllis decided it was time to retire.

…

“God of Wind, God of Earth, you’ve arrived. I’ve been waiting for you.” The God of Light, resting in his thoughts, slowly opened his eyes, his gaze radiant.

As divine as his statues depicted him, the God of Light was majestic, omniscient, and almighty, the backbone of the gods.

The seven gods gathered to discuss important matters.

“God of Wind, why are you shivering?” the God of Fire asked with concern. He and the God of Wind had a good relationship, and there was a folk expression to describe their relationship: fanning the flames.

The Fire God was clad in crimson, his hair ablaze with flames, blazing with intensity.

Trembling, the Wind God recounted what had just happened, hoping to elicit an answer from the God of Light.

The God of Light had never heard of such a situation. Because his followers were so powerful, he dared not allow them to trust him, believing he was unworthy of their worship.

How could this be possible?

They were the most powerful beings in the world, the source of faith. How could there be a being more powerful than them

? Could it be an alien, like the one who claimed to be the Envoy of Honghu Lake?

“We’ll discuss this later. Let’s discuss the main topic of today’s meeting…”

Before

the God of Light could finish his words, the Fire God suddenly vomited blood, bubbling like magma.

“Fire God, what’s wrong with you? Pfft!” The Water God, about to step forward to offer his concern, encountered the same situation as the Fire God, spewing blood.

“What’s going on?”

The other gods expressed their concern for their colleague, wondering why he had fallen into such a state out of the blue.

The Fire and Water Gods exchanged a look of horror. They probably understood the Wind God’s feelings. No, the Wind God was merely frightened, not actually harmed. But the two of them were actually vomiting blood.

“We, we couldn’t resist…”

“There was a believer who wanted me to grant him the magic of forging. Before I could react, my body, unable to control itself, responded automatically, wanting to grant him the magic of forging. No, give it to him.”

“However, even though I mobilized all my strength, I couldn’t give him the magic of forging. My body continued to forcefully mobilize, causing me to vomit blood.”

“It’s the same for me. This believer wanted me to teach him how to mix potions,” said the Water God.

The God of Light sighed, “Faith is both our strength and our failure. While it grants us immense power, it also often leads us to uncontrolled actions.”

He continued, “Perhaps this is because the believers’ talents in forging magic and concocting potions are too poor, beyond our capabilities.”

Even so, he felt a sense of unease. Even if the believers’ talents were poor and beyond their capabilities, they could simply refuse. No matter how much their bodies were controlled by the power of faith, it wouldn’t cause them to vomit blood.

And how could the Wind God’s case be explained?

Unless that person was so powerful that the power of faith could not resist.

“This is just a side note. Let’s continue our discussion…”

Four

sounds of vomiting blood echoed simultaneously.

The four gods of Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water vomited blood and fell to the ground, only to struggle back to their feet.

“Space magic… That follower insisted on learning space magic. But it’s truly beyond our capabilities,” the four gods groaned.

When will the days of being swept up by the power of faith end?

The Beast God and the Elf God’s scalps tingled at the sight. This situation was too bizarre.

The eldest brother, the God of Light, cleared his throat and continued, “It was precisely to avoid being controlled by the power of faith that we, along with the demons, devised this plan, concealed from mortals. This meeting is to discuss the next step…”

Suddenly, the seven gods sensed a sense of impending disaster. The follower was about to learn the most difficult magical technique—freezing time.

The problem was that they truly couldn’t freeze time. Only two people in history had mastered it, a feigned achievement to prove their power.

Of course, they wouldn’t tell their followers that it was a fabrication. Instead, they claimed that the time-freezing skill truly existed. Using “Freeze Time” could stop time for five seconds for everyone, including themselves.

The power of “Freeze Time” lay in the fact that the user wouldn’t even notice it for five seconds.

“Hurry up and find this man, beg him to let us go…” The God of Light shouted, but no one answered.

Six gods collapsed to the ground.

The God of Light’s body swayed for a moment, finally experiencing the feelings of the others, and then collapsed to the ground.

Boom –

seven gods fell into a coma.

Before he fell into a coma, the God of Light had only one thought: this believer was too terrifying.
