Chapter 897 Prophecy Verified, Shift in Offense and Defense

Everyone was utterly shocked to see the deputy abbot of the Black and White Temple suddenly transform into a monstrous, malevolent creature.

Although the Black and White Temple had acted mysteriously and cruelly for many years, truly a demonic force,

no one had expected that its deputy abbot would be a monster in his entirety.

Those Dao Integration Realm experts observing through their divine senses were speechless.

They stared blankly at the mountain-sized monster, its six sky-covering wings, eight thick, powerful arms, and the eerie dark power burning within it, a profound and indescribable fear rising within them.

Especially the malevolent aura emanating from it; even from across the vast starry sky, it sent chills down their spines.

It was an instinctive fear, a tremor etched into their very bones.

It was as if the monster were their natural enemy, instilling in them an uncontrollable dread.

The feeling was like a rabbit encountering a tiger, a mouse encountering a venomous snake—the instinctive reaction of prey facing its predator.

“What…what kind of monster is this…”

a Dao Integration Realm expert murmured, his voice trembling.

He had lived for tens of thousands of years, considering himself knowledgeable and experienced, having seen all sorts of demons and monsters.

But this monster before him filled him with a deep-seated fear.

The fear came inexplicably, yet was incredibly real, as if his body’s instincts were telling him to flee immediately.

“Its aura…why does it make me so uneasy?”

another Dao Integration Realm expert said, his voice filled with horror.

He found his sword-wielding hand trembling slightly, something he hadn’t experienced in tens of thousands of years.

He tried to suppress the fear, but found it impossible.

The fear was like a bone-deep infection, deeply etched into his soul.

As for Qiu Ruofeng and the other elders of the Netherworld Palace, after the initial shock, they immediately remembered something.

“Quick! Take out the scroll left by the Ancestor!”

Qiu Ruofeng shouted urgently, his voice trembling.

An elder hurriedly took out an ancient wooden box from his storage space.

The wooden box was entirely black, its surface covered with densely packed sealing runes, emitting a faint glow.

His hands trembled as he opened the box and took out a yellowed scroll.

The scroll, made of some unknown material, remained intact despite the passage of countless years.

Its surface emitted a soft light, faintly emanating some ancient power.

Qiu Ruofeng took the scroll, took a deep breath, and slowly unfurled it.

On the scroll were ancient patterns.

The lines were rough, the colors monotonous, yet they exuded an indescribable sense of oppression.

The patterns depicted monsters of various forms.

Some had wings, some had tentacles, some were covered in eyes, and some had mouths full of sharp teeth.

They were baring their fangs and claws, their faces ferocious, fighting against figures.

The figures’ faces were indistinct, but each possessed a powerful aura, radiating an indescribable majesty.

They wielded swords, clenched fists, or performed hand seals, battling the monsters in a bloody struggle.

And in the very center of the scroll was the largest monster depicted.

It was the size of a small mountain, entirely black, with six wings that blotted out the sun, eight thick and powerful arms, a face full of compound eyes, and a long proboscis in its mouth.

It was exactly the same as the monster before them.

“No mistake…” Qiu Ruofeng murmured, his voice trembling, “No mistake! The monster opposite Lu Qing is one of the evil creatures in the scroll!”

He raised his head, gazing at the starry sky, his eyes filled with disbelief.

“An evil creature from ancient times… still alive? Still lurking among us?”

The other elders of the Netherworld Palace also paled, exchanging bewildered glances.

Their Netherworld Palace’s ancestor was an ancient immortal.

The scrolls and books he left behind recorded some secrets of ancient times.

Among them were descriptions of evil creatures from another world, living by devouring the world’s origin, cruel and bloodthirsty, the natural enemy of all living beings in this starry sky.

And weren’t those evil creatures all slain by the sages of ancient times?

How could any still be alive?

Moreover, it had been lurking within the Black and White Sect, disguised as a human, for over ten thousand years?

Qiu Ruofeng suddenly remembered something, his expression turning even more grim.

“The founder of the Black and White Sect… after returning from the Dark Abyss, his personality changed drastically, and he never showed his true face again. Could it be…”

He didn’t finish his sentence, but everyone understood his meaning.

The founder of the Black and White Sect had indeed not obtained any opportunity from the Dark Abyss, but had been possessed by this evil creature!

From the moment he emerged from the Dark Abyss, he was no longer human.

This conjecture sent a chill down everyone’s spine.

Lu Qing ignored the shock of the other Dao Integration Realm experts.

He wasn’t even surprised by the monster’s appearance.

He had already sensed that the creature was not dead.

Although the evil aura had weakened considerably, it still existed and was rapidly recovering.

He had been waiting, waiting for the creature to reveal its true form.

“Insect, you have truly angered me.”

The monster spoke, its voice hoarse and deep, like the friction of metal, or as if it came from the deepest abyss.

Countless compound eyes on its face stared at Lu Qing, each gleaming with a chilling light.

“I will tear this avatar of yours to shreds and then find your true form.”

It slowly unfurled its six enormous wings, each hundreds of feet long, blotting out the sky.

The bone spikes on its wings gleamed coldly in the starry sky, their edges sharp as blades.

“Don’t worry, I won’t let you die so quickly.”

It extended its long proboscis and gently stabbed in the air.

The proboscis, like a spear or a sword, had an incredibly sharp tip, piercing a tiny black hole in space itself.

The black hole slowly rotated, emanating a chilling aura.

“I want you to live forever, to watch your own body and soul being devoured by me, bit by bit.”

Its tone was icy cold, as if the very space itself were freezing.

After revealing its true form, the Vice Abbot’s aura became even more malevolent and powerful, its killing intent stronger than ever before.

That killing intent was almost tangible, causing the surrounding starry sky to tremble slightly, and making the Dao Integration Realm experts observing with their divine senses feel a sense of suffocation.

Because only he himself knew the immense price Lu Qing had paid for that sword strike.

Originally, using his clan’s innate divine abilities, he had transformed and parasitized this body, so even the Great Dao Origin of this world couldn’t truly detect his location or do anything to him.

He was like a snake blending into a school of fish, concealing his aura, mimicking the movements of fish, making it impossible for the Great Dao Origin to distinguish him from countless other beings.

If he could comprehend the Great Dao Laws of this world and recover to the Perfect Dao Integration Realm, he could completely integrate into this world.

At that time, he would be a part of this world, and the Great Dao Origin would no longer be able to reject him.

At that time, he and the Abbot could perform a blood sacrifice, communicate with their homeland, and open a passage between the two worlds.

Not only would they receive unparalleled rewards, but they would also be able to freely travel between the two worlds.

With the resources of both worlds, he could not only recover his cultivation to the Transformation Realm, but even a glimpse of a realm beyond the Transformation Realm would not be out of the question.

But now, all these hopes have been extinguished by Lu Qing’s sword strike.

His false body was destroyed, and his true body was forced to reveal its true form, exposed to the starry sky.

He could already sense that the will of the Great Dao Origin had noticed him.

That vast and boundless power was slowly circulating, repelling him.

It had left a mark on him, like a mark left on prey.

In other words, from now on, no matter how he disguised and changed, he would no longer be able to integrate into this world.

That mark would follow him forever, allowing the Great Dao Origin to find him at any time.

He would even be targeted by the Great Dao Origin of this other world in the unseen realm.

Although the Great Dao Origin could not directly kill him, it would indirectly bring him many calamities.

From now on, whether he’s cultivating or traversing the starry sky, inexplicable troubles will find him.

Perhaps it’s an unexpected spatial storm, a sudden heavenly tribulation, or even a sudden, inexplicable demonic possession.

The Great Dao itself won’t intervene, but it will make the entire world his enemy.

He’d plotted and endured for countless years, only to have his hopes shattered by Lu Qing.

How could the Deputy Abbot not hate this ant from the lower realm to the bone?

“So, you really are a demon cub from another world.”

Lu Qing remained unmoved by the overwhelming killing intent.

He hovered in the starry sky, his expression calm, as if the ferocious monster before him was merely a slightly larger insect.

“So you actually managed to infiltrate here. It seems the founder of the Black and White Temple didn’t obtain any opportunity from the Dark Abyss at all, but was possessed by you, which is how you were able to emerge from there.”

His voice wasn’t loud, yet it clearly resonated throughout the entire starry sky.

Those Dao Integration Realm experts observing with their divine senses were once again shaken upon hearing these words.

Possession?

The founder of the Black and White Sect was possessed by this monster?

No wonder… no wonder his personality changed drastically after returning from the Dark Abyss, and he never showed his true face again.

No wonder he rarely appeared after founding the Black and White Sect, and hadn’t shown himself for tens of thousands of years.

So he wasn’t human anymore.

The Deputy Sect Master was startled upon hearing Lu Qing’s words.

“Ant, do you know my origins?”

A hint of surprise flashed in its compound eyes.

It had thought that the cultivators of this starry sky had long forgotten the history of ancient times, forgotten the existence of its race.

After all, countless years had passed, even Dao Transformation Immortals had become extinct, and those ancient legends had long been buried by time.

But this ant before it actually knew its origins.

“In ancient times, you invaded our starry sky, only to be slain by our sages and forced back,”

Lu Qing said calmly, his gaze fixed on the monster.

“I never imagined that after so many millennia, you would still be so persistent, still harboring the illusion of invading.”

His voice was calm, but every word struck like a hammer blow to the hearts of those Dao Integration Realm experts.

Ancient invasion, evil creatures, world passage?

These words pounded in their minds, shaking them to their core.

They couldn’t help but recall the long-standing prophecy:

a cataclysmic event would descend upon the starry sky, causing widespread devastation and the destruction of countless worlds.

They had always regarded that prophecy as mere legend, never taking it seriously.

But now, looking at the ferocious monster before them, feeling the aura emanating from it that instilled in them a primal fear, they suddenly felt—that prophecy might actually be true.

“So you do know something after all.”

The Deputy Abbot’s voice grew even more sinister, the killing intent in his compound eyes intensifying.

“Did that old codger lingering in the Dark Abyss tell you?”

It immediately guessed where Lu Qing’s information came from.

Deep within the Dark Abyss, within the Xuanhua corpse suppressing the World Passage, a wisp of remnant soul consciousness remained.

Although that old codger had been dead for hundreds of thousands of years, that wisp of remnant soul had never dissipated.

It must have been that wisp that told this ant before it about those ancient events.

After its initial surprise, the Deputy Abbot revealed a ferocious expression.

On its face, covered with compound eyes, every eye gleamed with cruel light.

“Even if you know, it’s useless,”

it sneered, its voice full of smugness.

“That old ghost’s corpse in the Dark Abyss can’t suppress the passage for long. Once the World Passage opens, my army will storm in, and all the living beings in this starry sky will become our food!”

It spread its eight thick arms, as if to embrace the entire starry sky.

“Then, I will make you watch with your own eyes, watch your family, your friends, your fellow disciples, be devoured by us one by one, die in agony!”

Its voice grew louder and more frenzied.

“And now—”

It suddenly lowered its head, its countless compound eyes fixed on Lu Qing.

“I will first annihilate you, you ant!”

Before the words were finished, its six wings on its back suddenly flapped.

That flap was incredibly fast.

Those Dao Integration Realm experts observing with their divine sense only saw a blur before the monster’s figure vanished.

Their divine sense frantically swept across the starry sky, but they couldn’t catch its movement at all.

It was as if it had completely merged into the void, omnipresent yet elusive.

“So fast!”

“I can’t see its movements at all!”

“What kind of speed is this? How can a Dao Integration Realm expert have such speed?”

Exclamations of surprise echoed between their divine senses.

Only Lu Qing’s expression shifted slightly, and he suddenly moved to the side.

Boom!

The instant he dodged, the space where he had stood suddenly shattered.

The enormous monster’s figure emerged from the broken space.

Its eight arms lashed out simultaneously, sharp claws tearing apart the afterimage left by Lu Qing and ripping that area of space into fragments.

“He dodged it?”

A hint of surprise flashed in the Vice Abbot’s eyes.

This attack was incredibly fast; even a cultivator at the peak of the Dao Integration Realm might not be able to dodge it.

Yet this ant before him had done it.

This scene not only made the group of powerful figures pale, but even Lu Qing couldn’t help but frown.

He hovered several miles away, watching the monster emerge from the shattered space, a trace of solemnity flashing in his eyes.

Originally, this entire expanse of starry sky, spanning tens of thousands of miles, was entirely under his control.

He could clearly sense the fluctuations of every inch of space and manipulate spatial power at will.

Whoever entered this area would have their movements restricted by him.

However, the dark power burning on this monster’s body now, like the black barrier before, possessed the ability to dissolve the power of the Great Dao.

The dark power burned fiercely on his body like flames, turning the surrounding space pitch black.

Any spatial power he activated that approached was dissolved and neutralized by the dark power, having no effect whatsoever.

“Insects, useless,”

the deputy abbot sneered, his countless compound eyes filled with mockery.

“The laws you cultivate are inherently restrained by the power of my race. This starry sky of yours is destined to become my slaughterhouse!”

It swung its eight arms simultaneously, its sharp claws leaving trails of black marks in the starry sky.

Those marks lingered, like scars etched into the void.

“You think breaking my Heavenly Demon Barrier will make you my enemy? Too naive.”

It slowly approached Lu Qing, each step causing the space to tremble.

“The Heavenly Demon Barrier is merely my clan’s most basic defensive measure. The me who reveals my true form is the real me!”

Its voice grew louder and more frenzied.

“My speed, my strength, my reflexes are several times stronger than before! You, a mere early-stage Dao Integration Realm cultivator, with only a divine thought avatar, what can you possibly use to fight me?”

Before the words were finished, its figure vanished again.

Lu Qing’s expression remained unchanged as he shifted to the side once more.

But this time, his speed was noticeably slower.

The dark energy greatly interfered with his spatial abilities, making his movement less smooth than before.

The instant he dodged, the monster reappeared.

Eight arms lashed out simultaneously, sharp claws tearing through space, reaching for Lu Qing.

Lu Qing narrowly avoided it, but his robes were still ripped in a corner by the sharp claw wind.

“You can dodge once, you can dodge twice, how many times can you dodge?”

The deputy abbot’s voice came from all directions, shifting left and right, forward and backward, making it impossible to pinpoint its location.

“Your spatial power is countered by me, your Dao power is dissolved by me, your speed is inferior to mine, your strength is inferior to mine, what do you have to fight me with?”

Its figure flashed continuously in the starry sky, each appearance accompanied by a fatal attack.

Lu Qing constantly shifted and dodged, gradually falling into a disadvantageous position.

Those Dao Integration Realm experts who were observing with their divine senses had their hearts in their throats.

“Not good, Lu Qing is about to collapse!”

“This monster’s power is simply too strong!”

“Could it be… he’s really going to lose?”

Qiu Ruofeng clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging into his palms.

“Lu Qing, you absolutely cannot be harmed…”

The white-clad woman from the Kongming Sect also stared intently at the starry sky, her eyes filled with worry.

For a moment, the balance of power shifted. (End of Chapter)
