Chapter 976, Sister of Silence

If the arrival of the Custodians served primarily as a statement of the political power’s stance, then the two hundred or so Custodians, while a formidable force, were more symbolic than practical.

After all, if the battle was victorious, victory was possible even without the Custodians; if it was lost… the Custodians could at best serve as a backup.

This backup was certainly possible.

The leading Custodian Tribune likely possessed the strength of a Chosen Champion. Among the two hundred or so Custodians, there was one who possessed the caliber of a Chosen Champion, and over thirty Chapter Champions, while the remainder were all Company Champions.

The level mentioned here refers to the corresponding rank of Space Marine.

In reality, the percentage of Chosen Champions in the Emperor’s Custodians was indeed quite high, reaching approximately 2 to 3 thousandths, while Chapter Champions accounted for around 5 to 10 percent. The remainder, almost all, were Company Champions.

This proportion was far more formidable than that of Space Marines.

To say the Custodians could defeat a hundred times the number of Space Marines might be a bit of an exaggeration; but ten times that number would be more than enough.

These Custodians alone could probably handle four or five Divine Great Daemons.

Add in Robert and Gu Jing to deal with Magnus and Fateweaver. Furthermore, within the Infinite Chapter and its many sub-chapters, there are also some Chapter Champions, even Chosen Champions. The latter, like Nero, the Grand Master of the Infinite Chapter, or Theriault, the Chief Think Tank, could also handle some Divine Great Daemons…

At that moment, Gu Jing’s mind raced. If things really escalated into the dire situation he least wanted to see, with the arrival of the nine Divine Great Lords of Change, led by Fateweaver, the human side wouldn’t be completely powerless.

However, if that situation truly came to that, who knows how much sacrifice would be made, and the ultimate outcome of the battle is uncertain.

More importantly, the cost of defeat would be extremely heavy.

It wouldn’t just be the loss of troops, manpower, and top experts. More crucially, if the Daemons were to capture the Moon, they could potentially pull it entirely into the Warp. Or, as the Imperium often used to call it, “Infernalize” it.

After undergoing a ritual of desecration, the “Infernalized” Moon would possess the dual nature of the Warp and the real universe. Endless Daemons could then swarm out from it.

Using the Moon as a springboard and base, they could directly attack Holy Terra.

And what is Holy Terra’s current state?

Clearly a devastating mess.

Otherwise, the Moon, Holy Terra’s most important satellite fortress, wouldn’t be in such a state of disrepair.

There must be a vast infestation of Chaos corruption on Holy Terra, and the current riots and wars erupting there are likely linked to this Chaos corruption. Even those in power on Terra might be secretly embracing Chaos. Otherwise, it’s hard to explain why, during the previous Lunar Unrest, the Solar Legion, clearly corrupted by Khorne, turned traitor en masse. Surviving orders from the Marines also show signs of them receiving orders from the Ministry of Military Affairs. By then

, the Chaos Daemon army attacking from the Moon, coupled with the traitorous high-ranking officials on Holy Terra, would destroy the fortress from within… Even if Terra still had complete defenses, including the Golden Knights of the Founding Order, the Imperial Guards of the Ten Thousand, and numerous other elite units and trump cards, the outcome would likely be far from favorable under the prolonged siege.

Even if Robert and Gu Jing managed to escape this time, and even if the Alliance could raise a large army and launch another campaign, no one knew whether it would be in time.

Even if they could arrive in time, the cost of war would be immense.

Therefore, to prevent this chain reaction from worsening, they had no choice—either prevent the entry of the Greater Daemons and expel Magnus immediately; or, if they were released, defeat them here and now with all their might.

There was no retreat.

It was for this reason that the Custodians were said to be a backup.

While this backup was certainly necessary, the Sisters of Silence brought with them and the Alliance Spellbreakers emerging from the newly constructed miniature veiled spiritual portal would play a crucial role.

As these Warp-suppressing Unleaked Ones advanced, every Warp demon that approached them was drastically suppressed. Without Magnus, these demons would be unable to maintain their existence and would be driven back to their Warp lairs by the Unleaked Ones and the Sisters of Silence.

But Magnus wasn’t feeling well either. Not only did he now have to contend with Robert and resist Gu Jing’s constant attempts to break through his psychic energy and close the Warp rifts, he also had to contend with the suppression of nearly a hundred Sisters of Silence and the Unleaked. His psychic energy was clearly being affected .

“There’s hope!

” Magnus clearly realized the severity of the situation.

He roared, his vicious words urging a vast horde of demons to surge towards the Unleaked.

Even if each of them would be severely injured and suppressed upon approaching, seemingly sacrificing their lives in vain, it was still necessary. The surviving followers of Tzeentch, and even the Solar Legion Khorne puppets whose minds Magnus had stolen after his arrival, were also being used.

They weren’t Warp demons; if they approached, they wouldn’t be suppressed by the Unleaked.

However, at this moment, the two hundred or so Imperial Guards, led by the Tribune, formed an impenetrable golden line of defense, withstanding all the attacks.

Even when the first Divine Lord of Change managed to emerge from the Warp rift and attack them, it was unable to harm the Unleaked One and the Sisters of Silence.

Instead, when its ability to mobilize Warp energy was restricted, it was expelled by the combined efforts of two powerful Custodian Champions.

In the following round of attacks, the Custodians even escorted the Unleaked One and the Sisters of Silence very close to the Warp rifts.

Every time they approached, a rift closed; and every time a rift closed, the summoning of the Divine Lord was delayed.

Finally, when they seized the opportunity and, under the protection of the Custodians, suddenly arrived very close to Magnus, even this “Divine Evil” with the greatest psychic power was suppressed to a certain extent.
