Chapter 966, Eleven Kills

“… responsible for overseeing the inventory and transfer of former Dark Eldar assets, coordinating Eldar cooperation with municipal reconstruction, and ensuring the Veil Spirit Gate system complies with Alliance standards…”

“… today we must inspect the two Soul Box Repositories and establish records; we must oversee the progress of the Haemochorial Laboratory takeover…”

“… most of the assigned departmental officials haven’t arrived yet. I need to meet them first to see what they’re capable of before I begin work arrangements…”

Shang Yanwen’s mind raced with numerous matters, but he didn’t feel a headache, only excitement.

It was only his first day in office, and he already had a ton of things to do.

He was a supervisory officer, and unless the work was particularly important and required his personal attention, he’d generally focus on management, formulating strategies, scheduling tasks, conducting research, reviewing reports, and so on.

Otherwise, even if he was exceptionally capable, he couldn’t handle each of those specific tasks on his own.

However, the current problem was the low rate of his subordinates arriving. The Comoros Special Region holds a high status and plays a crucial role in the Alliance’s overall strategy. Its entire administrative structure is a team of elite personnel drawn from across the Alliance. This applies

to Shang Yanwen, as well as his leader, Governor Xia Xingze. He transitioned from the position of Chairman of the Former Universe to Director-General of the Alliance’s Central Commerce Department, making him a prominent figure in the Alliance. Going one step further, he could potentially become a permanent member of the Alliance Cabinet, the highest body of power.

In fact, if Xia Xingze performs well as Governor of Comoros, he’ll be a strong contender for the next cabinet election.

This applies not only to these leadership positions, but also to the people working below them.

However, many administrative and administrative officials need to travel from across the universe. Some travel such long distances that even those who travel to the nearest Veil Spirit Gate still take a significant amount of time.

Until these personnel are in place, Shang Yanwen will naturally have to handle much of the work himself.

This is actually a good thing, in a way.

He was accustomed to personally completing specific tasks when taking on a new role. Without frontline experience, leadership is difficult.

So, let’s tackle today’s tasks one by one.

First, the inspection and liquidation of the two Soul Repositories.

…

The Dark Eldar’s Soul Repository is the secret to their immortality.

It’s like a storage vault for their soul. They place the trigger for their soul there and then place it into a body suited to their soul.

When they die outside, their soul is drawn back into the Soul Repository. After a brief recovery, a new body is found, and their soul can be retrieved and placed into a new one, completing a resurrection.

The Dark Eldar can resurrect in this way, achieving theoretical immortality through thousands of rebirths.

Of course, in reality, there’s always a day of actual death. After all, their technology isn’t perfect. Not only does each death incur the soul’s toll, but each new body also requires a long period of weakness as they adjust to their new state. To put it simply, if the connection between a Dark Eldar and their Soul Relics is severed at death, the Relics cannot draw their souls back.

For Dark Eldar unable to return, their souls have only one destination: the realm of Slaanesh.

From this perspective, the Soul Relics of the Dark Eldar are incredibly valuable to them.

For the Eldar resistance in Comoros and those fleeing, the most important thing they take with them on the run isn’t necessarily their own lives, but their Soul Relics.

As for the Eldar who surrendered to the Alliance, their surrender essentially meant handing over their Soul Relics to the Alliance for management.

As the third-in-command, Shang Yanwen’s primary responsibility was to oversee the surrendering Dark Eldar. The management of their Soul Relics was naturally a top priority. He oversaw a department called the Resurrection Administration, specifically responsible for the future resurrection of the Dark Eldar.

“Loyal” Dark Eldar seeking resurrection would need to submit a request to the Alliance and receive approval from the Alliance government.

These Soul Relics are currently under the control of the Alliance military. Each soul box vault filled with a family’s soul boxes often has a garrison of Alliance troops stationed within it.

Shang Yanwen’s task now is to count these items and, under military protection, transport them to a centralized management center for safekeeping. Once stored, they must be registered. Only those Dark Eldar who have completed the registration process are granted “basic human rights” within the Alliance.

These are fundamental rights to avoid being easily executed if they make no mistakes, much like the four floor-cleaning slaves he saw upon entering the government building.

However, his first task went awry.

As he and his men completed the preliminary inventory of the Mindala family’s soul box vault and prepared to ship the data and soul boxes away, a scream of pain erupted from the ventilation ducts!

Shang Yanwen was pinned behind an alloy counter by his security chief, Vikas, captain of the Angel of Execution. Three poison-tipped arrows pierced the spot where he had been standing, corroding the ground with a hissing sound.

Twelve Eldar in shadow camouflage burst through the stained windows, their blades cleaving through the chests of two clerks, their blood splattering across the data screen.

“For Viktor!” the resistance leader’s battle cry was cut short by the roar of his chainsword. Four Angels of Execution crashed into their formation, casually firing bolts that blasted the attackers’ upper bodies into a bloody mist, their chainswords slicing each attacker to pieces.

Shang Yanwen saw the Eldar holding the opposing flag, seemingly a teenager, pinned to the sacrificial pillar by a power sword, his struggling legs scratching bloody marks on the silver pillar. He also saw the bravest female warrior of the enemy slash off a Space Marine’s arm armor with her scimitar, only to have her cervix crushed in the next second.

The battle was over in a flash, and the remaining three prisoners were captured by the Angels of Execution.

After a brief interrogation, Vikas gave the order: “Execute.”

His voice pierced the holes in his visor, a chilling edge. As the chainsword pierced the Eldar’s body, it unleashed bluish-purple organs. The muffled sound of the teeth shredding spines mingled with the stench of burning flesh.

This wasn’t just physical destruction.

The Angels of Execution’s weapons were equipped with specialized devices crafted in collaboration between the Inquisition and the Mechanicum. At close range, any Dark Eldar slain by their weapons would be granted complete ‘freedom.’

Wicking the blood from his power armor, Vikas explained to Shang Yanwen, “These xenos destroyed the East Sector pipelines, rendering our newly constructed map of them ineffective. They may have infiltrated through those pipelines.”

Shang Yanwen stood up, his expression remaining largely unchanged.

He pondered for a moment, then shook his head slightly.

When a full squadron of human soldiers arrived, he demanded that all members of the small Mindara clan be brought before him.

The clan’s archon, Insel, groveled before Shang Yanwen.

But now, the civil servant seemed ruthless. “I believe this attack is linked to you. This is your territory, and I suspect there are rebel sympathizers among you.”

“Absolutely not!” Insel trembled. “You have no evidence…”

“All I ask is that you hand over the murderer.” Shang Yanwen raised a finger.

“I…” Insel understood his meaning, his face pale. “I will give you a satisfactory answer. I will find the murderer for you.”

“Not one,” Shang Yanwen said. “One hundred.”

Insel’s face paled even more.

His family numbered no more than nine hundred.

“I did it!” Insel’s son stepped forward. “No one else had anything to do with it…”

“Muir!” Insel shouted, but was interrupted by the sound of a bullet.

It was Vikas who fired.

He had received Shang Yanwen’s advance orders and, without hesitation, shot Insel’s son.

Shang Yanwen continued, “Ninety-nine more to go.”

Insel clenched his fist, but finally, helplessly, released it.

Although he himself vaguely suspected that his son might be connected to the resistance, providing intelligence and a hidden opportunity, and taking advantage of Shang Yanwen, a high-ranking Alliance official’s arrival, he was prepared to hand him over if he couldn’t handle it. But even at that cost, saving his family was a necessary evil.

But his son had already volunteered and endured death, so why would he do this?

What did Shang Yanwen mean?

Eleven strokes?!

But… after all, a stroke was better than killing everyone.

…

Sitting in the car on the way back, Shang Yanwen looked calm, but in reality,

he was still a little shaken. If Vikas had been a little slower, he would have died.

But his killing wasn’t just about revenge. He

needed to prove it with bloody examples.

This time, the human forces would bring back and preserve not only the soul boxes of all the surviving members of the Mindala family, but also all their members.

He had lunch on a terrace overlooking the ruins of a theater. As Shang Yanwen chewed his synthetic steak, the surrender ceremony of the Mindala family was taking place in the square below. More than eight hundred people formed a circle and watched ninety-nine of their kind kneeling on the ground. Their soul boxes had been picked out and placed in front, to be crushed one by one by an angel of execution.

Every time one was crushed, a kneeling Eldar would fall to the ground silently.

Their weapons and equipment had long been confiscated, and they were unable to resist at all.

In such a desperate atmosphere,

a young Eldar suddenly pounced on the angel of execution, but with just one kick, his head was kicked and smashed.

All of this was seen by Shang Yanwen. His face with deep wrinkles was reflected on the clean metal cutlery.

The young man who was searching for food in the garbage dump a hundred years ago now controls the fate of countless dark Eldar.
