Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 945
Chapter 936: Not Unsolvable
. Gu Hang had been keeping an eye on the expeditionary force.
He had indeed been.
In his view, the Alliance was undoubtedly the most crucial force in saving the entire Human Empire, and he didn’t believe anyone else could do as much as he did.
However, gaining another powerful ally would be a positive development.
Gu Hang highly regarded Robert and held high hopes for him.
Of course, if Gu Hang’s idea were to work, Robert would be best served by remaining conscientiously within the Infinite Star Region, centered around the Infinite Legion’s home turf. He could launch a military campaign similar to the Alliance’s Dark Side Expedition, centered in the Spider Web and Eastern Space Regions, expanding territory within the Holy Land.
Rather than rushing headlong into Holy Terra, it would be better to steadily manage each world before him.
Even if Holy Terra were truly destroyed, and the Human Empire ceased to exist, the Alliance would have preserved half of the Dark Side Empire. Then it would become clear how much territory Robert could secure within the Holy Land.
At worst, they could join forces and advance step by step toward Holy Terra, reclaiming humanity’s homeworld.
Of course, the loss of Holy Terra would be extremely significant, potentially triggering an even greater crisis, a point Gu Hang acknowledged. Therefore, when Robert decided to launch the arduous Terran expedition, he ultimately refrained from overly strong opposition.
Now that the expedition had already begun, it not only carried Gu Hang’s hopes for a positive turnaround in the Imperial Holy Territory, but also involved his own son, so naturally, he wouldn’t sit idly by.
The expedition, which had departed from the Infinite Star Region, hadn’t lost its way in the Warp thanks to the Emperor’s blessing and, of course, Gu Hang’s modest assistance.
But overall, Gu Hang’s ability to offer little was insufficient.
At the very least, it would be difficult for him to directly dispatch troops or deliver supplies to the expedition’s ships.
The cost was too high, and even Gu Hang wasn’t willing to do so.
However, there were other ways to provide assistance to the expedition through Gu Jing,
particularly in the form of information.
Robert possessed a brilliant mind, but he needed a wealth of information to inform his decisions.
Gu Hang could provide a wealth of clues and knowledge about the Warp, evil gods, demons, and psychic powers… Whenever something happened, Gu Hang, through Gu Jing’s perspective, could usually grasp the situation.
Gu Jing himself understood what he had explained to Robert; but there were many things Gu Jing didn’t understand. Even after years of study and practice, there was a ceiling to his power; until he reached a certain level, he wouldn’t understand.
So Gu Hang would often pass on information, and he would pass it on to Robert.
The information Gu Hang provided helped Robert avoid numerous pitfalls and indirectly saved the entire expedition several times,
including this time with the Dark Elves.
However, even Gu Hang had misjudged them this time.
There was only one thing.
After all, the Eldar had a formidable foundation. After all, they had dominated the universe for countless millennia, and even after their demise, they had managed to survive to this day, despite Slaanesh’s pursuit. That wasn’t possible without some hidden tricks.
Gu Hang didn’t realize what the Dark Eldar were up to the moment they first appeared. It took him some time to analyze the
formation’s purpose after it was deployed. He predicted it would take eight hours to take effect, but it actually took seven. This delay was due to the destruction of a large number of nodes.
However, Gu Hang had figured out one thing long beforehand, though he hadn’t shared it with Gu Jing and Robert.
The critical point for destroying the Dark Eldar’s Warp-Slicing Formation was halfway through.
He didn’t share this with them because, after analyzing it and looking at the situation on the scene, Gu Hang knew the human expeditionary force would never achieve this goal.
In other words, their being drawn into the Veil was a foregone conclusion.
There was no way they could destroy even half the nodes within eight hours.
This meant the entire expeditionary force was doomed to be drawn into the Veil.
So what was the point of talking about it?
Would it demoralize the entire expeditionary force?
It would be better to keep their morale high and strive to break through those nodes.
Every node destroyed means the destruction of an Eldar army and Eldar ship.
While they’re desperately trying to hold onto nodes and delay their destruction, they can’t utilize the Eldar’s exceptional flexibility and elusiveness. It would be best to kill as many Eldar as possible.
While the souls of the Eldar killed will return to Comoros and be reborn, this will require the regeneration of their bodies, which takes time. Furthermore, the newly reborn Eldar will experience a long period of weakening, requiring considerable time and effort to regain their former strength.
For the relatively small population of the Eldar, the losses would undoubtedly be significant.
As for the Eldar persevering through such heavy losses to complete their grand plan… in Gu Hang’s view, it wasn’t truly unsolvable.
Realizing that Robert and his expeditionary fleet were inevitably drawn into the Veil, Gu Hang’s thoughts shifted from preventing this event to exploiting it.
The Alliance had dealt with the Dark Eldar before.
Even before the Cataclysm, Dark Eldar pirates had been a frequent presence in several areas of the southern Eastern Universe, a persistent problem for some time. Furthermore, trade routes between the Alliance and the Infinite Sector were frequently harassed by Eldar pirates.
Gu Hang learned that the so-called “prophecy” the Eldar had obtained was obtained from Dark Eldar pirate captives.
The Alliance even seized the opportunity when a group of Dark Eldar pirates, using their special Veil Spirit Portal to escape from Comoros, opened up their escape route into the real universe. The Alliance then fired a barrage of cannonballs into the portal.
Those cannonballs likely landed inside Comoros, causing some damage.
Of course, those few cannonballs alone weren’t crucial.
Gu Hang used the opportunity to slip some “contraband” into Comoros—
his Legion of Heroic Elves.
Not many managed to sneak in, and many were quickly apprehended and eliminated, returning to Gu Hang’s Kingdom of the Storm God.
However, Gu Hang hoped that even if the Heroic Spirits representing a portion of his power were briefly present in Comoros, as long as they existed, Gu Hang could use them as navigation to find Comoros’s exact location.
Isn’t the Dark Eldar’s strength due to the fact that no one can break into their lair, leaving them to harass others?
If they could locate their lair, or even find an opportunity to proactively attack and capture or destroy Comoros, then humanity would have a chance to completely destroy these annoying, fly-like dark aliens.
Gu Hang wasn’t like some human rulers, who harbored an absolute hatred for all non-human races. However, the Dark Eldar, a definite enemy of humanity, would be a great opportunity to completely destroy them in one fell swoop. Unfortunately
, they did possess a strong foundation.
Gu Hang could sense the presence of his Heroic Spirits and even command their actions. However, Gu Hang was unable to channel more power into them, nor could he use them to locate Comoros. This was somewhat bizarre. Gu Hang didn’t even know how the Dark Eldar managed this. But it wasn’t surprising. If the Dark Eldar’s lair could be found so easily, allowing Gu Hang to unleash his psychic power on Comoros with a few coordinates, then they would have been unable to escape Slaanesh’s pursuit for so long. Gu Hang didn’t believe he was more powerful than Slaanesh. It was only natural that Gu Hang couldn’t achieve what even Slaanesh hadn’t. Yet, Gu Hang never gave up his interest in Comoros. After the Cataclysm, during the Dark Side Crusade, while Chaos was humanity’s primary enemy, the xenos threat never diminished. The primary xenos threats were still Greenskins and Void Zerg. However, occasionally, the Dark Side Crusade would encounter the troublesome Dark Eldar. Comoros itself produces no resources; even the rare greenhouse crops they possessed were of little use, not to mention the vast quantities of minerals, metals, and energy required… all of which must be acquired from the real universe. Either they could establish Dark Eldar colonies in the real universe and employ slave labor for production, or they could form pirate raiding bands and raid for resources. The Dark Eldar were adept at both. Colonization and raiding were the Dark Eldar’s way of survival. The Cataclysm also presented them with an opportunity. With the Human Imperium weakened and divided beyond all recognition, their efforts to plunder planets, acquire populations, and establish colonies became more streamlined. This inevitably led to encounters with the Dark Side Crusade. The Alliance, drawing on past experience with the Dark Eldar, had developed a specialized playbook for combating this xenos enemy. When dealing with the Dark Eldar, finding the Veil Gate connecting the real universe to Comoros is paramount. Each time a Veil Gate is found and destroyed, Gu Hang’s will descends, sending Heroic Spirits inside. Once inside, these Heroic Spirits maintain a low profile and refrain from active action. They even conceal their human form—this is simple: they are the embodiment of Gu Hang’s power, the embodiment of the storm. Their human memories and appearance are secondary, bestowed upon them by Gu Hang. When necessary, losing their human form is convenient. They take on the appearance of an elemental creature, composed of pure storm energy. Elementals, or energy creatures, are rare in this universe, but they do exist, and some have even established civilizations. These elementals are found among the numerous slaves and mercenaries enslaved or employed by the Dark Eldar. Gu Hang’s Storm Spirits, masquerading in Comoros, assume this guise. The overall number wasn’t large, but Gu Hang wasn’t counting on these mere 100,000 Storm Elves disguised as elemental creatures to play a significant military role. Their most important task was to gather intelligence after infiltrating the Dark Eldar’s social systems and institutions, allowing him to gain a deeper understanding of their Veiled City. They were achieving considerable results. Gu Hang’s understanding of the Dark Eldar was now much richer than before, and he also discovered something unexpected: the elemental creatures seemed to have a special purpose for a certain family. As mercenaries, half of Gu Hang’s Storm Elves had entered a mid-sized family called the Dark Source. During this time, the Storm Elves, disguised as creatures with mindsets distinct from those of ordinary carbon-based creatures, gathered information that the Dark Source family’s biggest backer seemed to be a prominent Dark Eldar faction: the Witch Cult. As one of the three pillars of the Dark Eldar, it was quite normal for the Witch Cult to support a particular family and enlist their services. Gu Hang also seized this opportunity to have his Storm Heroes, through the Dark Source family, further engage with the Witch Spirit Cult behind them, in the hope of obtaining higher-level, more crucial intelligence. The entire process went even more smoothly than expected. The Witch Spirits, who harnessed supernatural powers, greatly favored the elemental creatures as valuable mercenaries. The Storm Elemental leader, General Feng, even unexpectedly received an audience with the Witch Spirit Cult’s leader, known as the “Old Woman.” This was a truly powerful figure! If one were to rank the most influential figures in Comoros, the Old Woman would undoubtedly be in the top three. Thanks to her and the entire Witch Spirit Cult, the Storm Creatures’ status rapidly rose, granting them access to previously inaccessible information. And right now, this information could be put to good use. Robert truly possesses considerable talent. Despite such a dramatic change, he quickly calmed the entire fleet, preventing it from remaining in a state of panic for too long. The Blackskins, who had been sent back to their homeland, attempted to seize this opportunity to launch a fierce attack on the human fleet and destabilize it, only to suffer losses. This was understandable. While these Blackskin expeditionary forces were elite, they were small in number, having suffered heavy losses while maintaining the magic circle. Seeing no chance of success, no advantage, they decided to evacuate without further delay. They believed the human fleet, having entered the Veil, was trapped and could be dealt with sooner or later. If they couldn’t deal with it immediately, they could simply withdraw and regroup, mobilizing the necessary cannon fodder and the forces of the major clans, and continue the fight. Here, they had a constant supply of supplies, while the human warriors were dwindling with each death and bullet fired. Robert, taking advantage of this opportunity, reunited the scattered fleet and, amidst the chaos, found a new target. That was the exact location of the Veil Port in Comoros, as Gu Jing had told him. It was the common departure point for the Dark Eldar pirate fleets, and the place where the Veil Gate opened and closed. The Dark Eldar pirates used this place to open Veil Gates that led to various parts of the real universe, allowing them to easily travel between the real universe and the Veil. If they could capture that place, humanity would be able to utilize this most important Dark Eldar technology! (End of this chapter)
