Chapter 927, Covering the Sky and the Sun

Just as Martins had anticipated, when the Chaos army launched its attack, even though his troops had prepared for defense, they were immediately plunged into a bitter battle.

The human army had barely had time to rest after the previous wave of battle. While rest is unavoidable for individuals as human beings, at the military level, it’s not necessarily necessary; at least rotation is possible.

For the past ten hours or so, the human troops had practiced a rotational system, allowing those who needed to rest to rest, and those who could hold on to quickly rebuild their defenses to prepare for the next wave of attack.

Many soldiers were transported to their designated positions by their drivers while napping in their military vehicles.

In a frenzy of activity, the human side had repurposed and reorganized the nearly destroyed army defenses outside the Cathedral of Savinir. They even salvaged some surviving heavy artillery pieces from captured and destroyed artillery positions.

At the same time, after the number of Space Marines increased, Martins also ordered that a large number of Space Marines be directly deployed to the key areas of the outer defense line.

Although the troops on hand were limited, the space in the Savinir Cathedral was even more limited. It would be unwise to put all the troops on hand into the cathedral. The flexible space on the periphery was the lifeline. If all the surrounding positions were lost, there would only be the cathedral area left, and the battle would be impossible. If they simply stayed there and passively took the beating, they would be defeated sooner or later.

Deploying Space Marines directly to the front line could significantly strengthen the defense of the front line.

In general, the Alliance had done everything they could to strengthen the defense line during the preparation period.

But after the battle started, red alerts were transmitted to the command post from all fronts.

“This is Hill 0104 on the northwest line. We’re under heavy bombardment. Requesting counterattack!”

“This is Position 0332 on the due north line. A Corrupted Titan appeared before us and has been destroyed, but we’ve lost seventeen Phoenix Warriors. We’re running low on manpower and need reinforcements!”

“This is Position 0746 on the northeast line. The enemy attacking us is far greater than expected. We can only hold out for twenty minutes at most!”

Pressure was everywhere, calls for reinforcements were everywhere, and everyone was reporting that they couldn’t hold out much longer…

And the person who should have been listening to these reports, Supreme Commander Martins, was no longer at the command center.

Already fully equipped, he and his commando team had already boarded their fighter jets and thundered off.

Also taking off was a massive fleet of Alliance fighter jets!

If there was one area where the Alliance could evenly match their opponents, it was air power.

The large number of fighter jets mobilized for the previous Alliance airborne operation near the church had never returned.

From the Wind Falcon to the Dragon Elephant, and various modified versions, they basically all have the means of vertical take-off and landing, and the requirements for the take-off environment are very low. The temporary airport can fully meet their needs.

Martins had anticipated the current situation. Not long ago, a new batch of transport planes arrived under the protection of another wave of fighter planes.

They not only brought an elite Army Guards Division – the official name of the Alliance Army is the S-type Division.

This is more powerful than the A-type division. It was reorganized from the former Glory Guards Regiment and was included in the army sequence. The S-type division not only has powerful artillery, armor, and Titan units, but the infantry is also fully equipped with feedback power armor.

The standard for the establishment of the Guards Division is “to use the strength of a regiment to match a Space Marine regiment.”

A Guards Regiment has approximately 3,000 men, including four infantry battalions and two armored battalions—six frontline combat units, totaling approximately 2,000 men. The remaining 1,000 are support forces, including five self-propelled artillery support companies, as well as the regiment’s logistics, reconnaissance, field medical battalions, staff, guard battalions, and other miscellaneous units.

While they might rival a Space Marine Chapter, in reality, they would likely be outmatched in a real encounter. After all, despite outnumbering a typical Chapter three times, could three elite Army soldiers in feedback-enhanced power armor defeat a single Space Marine?

Hardly.

If possible, Martins would have preferred to use his precious transport capacity to send another 3,000 Space Marines.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have that many on hand.

His Southern Front had a total of 43 Chapters, theoretically totaling over 40,000 Space Marines. However, such a formidable force wouldn’t be constantly together. In reality, most Space Marines would be deployed in company-sized formations across the Front’s target areas. With the Southern Front’s 22 detachments, they would be active across thousands of worlds in one or two cosmic regions, carrying out operations according to strategic objectives.

Of course, the largest force would naturally reside within the Front’s main fleet, commanded by Martins. This force,

comprising five Chapters,

served as a reserve force under the control of the Front’s headquarters. They would accompany the main fleet and be ready to attack when needed by other detachments.

However, even within the main fleet, the five thousand Space Marines would not gather together. In fact, thirteen worlds in the multi-star region where Papalil was located were the targets of this offensive. Another four thousand Space Marines were currently stationed throughout the multi-star region, alongside the other ships of the main fleet. They

had received the news and were rushing in full force, but it would take at least three to four days to fully assemble.

In other words, all the Space Marines Martins could currently mobilize were already on the surface.

He wanted to increase the bet, and the highest level of combat power he could mobilize was only the S-class division, that is, the Army Guards Division.

A Guards regiment cannot be compared to a Space Marine regiment, but if they really met one, they would not be able to fight back at all, so at least they could give it a try.

This Guards regiment was also assigned to fight on the front line.

And along with this Guards regiment came a large number of aviation energy crystals to supplement the energy of the fighter planes.

This supported the full-scale attack of the current Alliance fighter planes.

The fighter planes that covered the sky and the sun faced the Chaos Army’s defense firepower and bombarded the Chaos Air Force that also took off.

Not to mention complete control of the air supremacy, but at least some strategic operations in the air can be completed.

For example, bombing, such as sending Martins and the commandos he led to where he wanted to go.
