Chapter 891: Resurrection of the Son of God (Part 2)

By this point, how could anyone fail to discern the plans of these Chaos enemies?

The demons weren’t foolish. They weren’t counting on a hundred Space Marines who had somehow managed to break through the orbital defenses and land on Earth to assassinate the Son of God.

Those Chaos Sorcerers must have been selected individuals with special physical abilities. They

were exploiting the Warp rifts created by their deaths, allowing a large number of Daemons to descend directly.

Theriot and other members of the Infinite Chapter’s Librarians attempted to close the Warp rifts.

If it were an ordinary, normal rift, they could do it.

But this one wouldn’t work.

Behind the Warp rifts, there must be incredibly powerful Chaos Sorcerers, or even individual Daemons, forcibly holding them open.

One after another, Daemons and Chaos Space Marines emerged, howling and shrieking as they attacked the surrounding humans.

“Defend the temple!” Chapter Captain Nero shouted as he fought on the front lines, but in reality, he was already feeling quite anxious.

The Infinite Warriors were currently facing considerable pressure from the war. Their main forces were essentially stationed in orbit, along with several key Chaos landing points. The temple’s guards were indeed insufficient.

While the temple was of considerable importance, it was located in the heart of the Super Star Fortress capital, and was supposedly a very safe place. Without breaching the outer fortresses, it was impossible to enter.

Gu Jing, Kaul, Maeve Nel, and the others were able to get so close because of their status as “guests.” Furthermore, their capture was also largely due to their status as “guests.” Maeve Nel was about to take action, but was stopped. Otherwise, if they had truly engaged, the Eldar Envoys, the Great Sage, and psionic masters like Gu Jing, all together, would have been more than enough to swiftly wipe out the Infinite Warriors’ temple guards.

The lack of a strong guard made it difficult to confront the demonic forces that had suddenly appeared before them.

Nero immediately issued a mobilization order, mobilizing additional troops from all quarters to support the temple and jointly defend the Gene-Father. He also led his Infinity Warrior guards and his own personal guards to seal off the rifts. Ideally

, they would strive to destroy every enemy that emerged from the rift. However, this plan was shattered when a Soul Grinder emerged from the rift.

This powerful daemon engine, immense in size, made its swift destruction exceedingly difficult.

The Soul Grinder, which survived the attack, continuously blazed infernal flames from its massive, profaned form. Regardless of the extent of the damage, it at least kept the Space Marines at bay, sheltering a vast horde of daemons that continuously poured out from the rift beneath it.

Although it was ultimately crushed by Chapter Master Nero’s iron fists, the number of daemons emerging from the Warp rifts had already reached a tremendous level. Nero himself was nearly trapped in the tidal wave of demons and Chaos Warriors, unable to escape. Only Maeve Nile’s psychic powers helped him push back against the many surrounding demons, allowing him to break free.

Under these circumstances, facing the overwhelming pressure of demons, the Infinite Warriors were forced to retreat, with their “prisoners,” step by step, all the way to the heart of the most important Temple of the Son of God.

From here, looking back, one could even see the towering figure of Robert, the Son of God, encased in a stasis field within the central hall.

Even at this point, the sheer number of demons pouring out of the uncontrollable Warp rifts only increased.

And yet, even here, they couldn’t freely use orbital firepower to support the attack.

This was the sacred ground of the Infinite Chapter! The resting place of the Son of God, the Gene-Father! The murals and reliefs covering the walls and ceilings extol the Son of God’s achievements during the founding of the Empire and the Imperial Civil War. How could they destroy it with heavy firepower?

Damaging the building would be one thing, but injuring the Gene Father or even destroying the stasis field would be a sure death.

Under these circumstances, when the “prisoners” vehemently demanded the return of their weapons and participation in the battle, Nero, despite his reluctance, was forced to agree.

In reality, excluding the “prisoners” from the battle was pure deception.

Unarmed Black Crusaders, Inquisitors, Living Saints, and the like were unlikely to participate. But people like Gu Jing and the Eldar, possessing psychic powers, didn’t need weapons. They were also shackled with Blackstone Bracelets, which theoretically suppressed psychics, effectively disarming them. However, in practice, these bracelets were ineffective against some A-class psychics. Some were so potent they could suppress S-class psychics, but they were definitely useless against Alpha-class psychics.

Otherwise, if Alpha-class psychics could be controlled with a single bracelet, why would their mere appearance cause a planet-wide catastrophe?

To control and contain a psyker of this caliber, a complete Blackstone Prison would be required. Transporting them would require at least specialized prison vehicles constructed from these anti-psychic materials.

Even ordinary, uncontrollable Alpha-class psykers were in this situation, let alone controllable ones.

Gu Jing was a controllable one; Maeve Nile wasn’t strictly wielding psychic powers, but she could be considered one.

The psychic suppression effect of their Blackstone bracelets was effectively nonexistent, allowing them to break through at will.

Their previous failure to break through was simply a way of giving the Infinity Warriors face.

In times of crisis, they would use it, as they did to save Nero.

In truth, Maeve Nile might have harbored a desire to see Nero die.

After all, it had always been the Infinity Chapter leader who had opposed their efforts to save the Son of God. If he died, would

that be… definitely not.

Gu Jing had asked her to help.

Nero couldn’t die.

If he died, his successor wouldn’t easily agree to let the aliens rescue the Gene Father.

It wasn’t hard for Theriault to see that their failure to save him when they could have, would likely push the Librarian, who had previously sided with him, against him.

Furthermore, while a Child of God was undoubtedly more valuable than a Chapter Master, someone of Nero’s stature was undoubtedly a top-tier expert among the Chosen Champions, not something to be casually sacrificed or lost.

Even at the very least, the probability of Nero’s death was extremely low. A master of the Chosen Champion’s caliber, absent the presence of Daemons or Chaos Traitors of equal rank, would be difficult to defeat with a massive wave of men, and would require a significant amount of time. Even if Maeve Nil hadn’t intervened, Theriault wouldn’t have stood by and watched the Chapter Master perish.

He would have saved him when he had the time. Might as well have used that opportunity to build closer ties.

It proved to be somewhat effective.

The dozen or so Infinity Warriors, along with the elite auxiliary troops, who had been guarding them and had not participated in the battle, could of course observe Mavenir and Gu Jing releasing their psychic energy. However, since they were fighting the demon together and had saved the Chapter Master, they naturally wouldn’t turn a blind eye. Instead, they turned a blind eye.

As the battle intensified, the Infinity Warriors’ defenses were pushed back further and further. Although reinforcements arrived, they were blocked from entering…

Under the pressure of various anxieties, and in response to the prisoners’ repeated pleas, Nero finally agreed to their rearmament.

After releasing the Blackstone Anti-Psychic Bracelets, the Eldar mages were free to attack. This was especially true of Gu Jing and Maeve Nil, two Alpha-level psionic masters. When they abandoned their restraints and retreated into full force, the destructive power they could unleash was terrifying.

The same was true of the Great Sage Cawl. His crimson robes fell apart, revealing his massive, bizarre mechanical form. When he entered full combat mode, he became a mobile firepower platform and wartime factory, blasting demons with all kinds of long-range firepower. His terrifying Sun Rays, in particular, though slow in rate, each shot marked the end of a powerful demon.

The liberated Black Crusaders, Inquisitors, and Sisters of Battle also provided powerful reinforcements for the battle force.

The most powerful were the Living Saint Estella, the Black Crusaders’ Blademaster Rossmond, and the Grey Knights’ Grand Master Changting.

This was a force of three Chosen Champions.

Marshal Xirui and the other two Grey Knights Grand Masters were all top-tier Chapter Champions, even the weaker Chosen Champions.

They were the ones who had survived the horrific Battle of Cartier, who had endured two months of relentless pursuit by demons on the Webway without significant loss, and who, in their final moments of escape, had been able to stand up to a top-tier Divine Master like Shakchi.

This lineup was perhaps even greater than the Alliance’s siege of the Orc King Bonebreaker during the Battle of Omgeria.

With their presence, the battle situation immediately stabilized.

At one point, they even considered organizing a counterattack, hoping to link up with incoming reinforcements and reseal the Warp rifts.

However, they were unsuccessful.

The influx of demons and Chaos Space Marines was simply too numerous.

They could probably defend themselves, but fighting their way out was a challenge.

The situation took a completely different turn when several Chaos Champions, along with two Bloodthirsters and two Great Unclean Ones, appeared on the battlefield.

Chaos Champions were swiftly slain, and Archdaemons expelled. However, this came at a price.

More Space Marines perished, including a Grey Knights Grand Master and Marshal Xirui, both severely wounded.

Nero, whose pressure had eased with the arrival of his “guests,” was now filled with worry again.

He was at a loss as to how to resolve the current situation.

What should he do?

Thinking about it, it seemed the only option was to endure the current situation and continuously mobilize external forces to rescue the Temple of the Heir of the Gods.

But there was a problem: Super Star was under immense pressure from all sides, and reinforcements from the five hundred worlds of the Infinite Sector were blocked and unable to break through.

With demons expanding the Warp rifts at full force and constantly pushing in, could they really muster enough forces to completely annihilate all the demons here?

A sober assessment suggested a difficult situation.

So… would they really have to resort to bombarding the area with massive weapons like macrocannons, lances, and missiles?

That’s efficient enough. A few rounds of blanket bombing followed by an elite force assault to clear the area would give them a fairly high chance of physically sealing the Warp rift again. Even if they couldn’t close it, they could just keep pumping fire into the rift, killing as many as possible.

Even if the blockade failed, they could simply retreat, fire their naval guns again, and then prepare for the next attack.

However, the only problem was the possibility of the Son of God being accidentally bombed.

Too close, and using high-powered weapons with a wide blast radius. Even the slightest chance of damaging the stasis field was something he couldn’t afford.

If that proved impossible, he would have to consider whether he could escape with the stasis field and the Son of God, leaving the area before proceeding with the bombing.

Without the Son of God, the Temple of the Heir, while valuable, was essentially just an expensive religious structure, a concession to the war effort.

With this thought, Nero looked towards the Son of God’s location, considering how to relocate with the stasis field.

Then he saw Mevnir and the Archsage Cawl approaching the Son of God.

Nero instantly understood what they were about to do, and he flew into a rage!

But he was a little far away, and because he had led the charge, he was surrounded by enemies, making it difficult for him to reach them.

He could only roar, “What are you doing?! Stop! You abominable alien sorcerers, if you dare to move, I swear I will crush your heads, even if it means chasing you across the entire universe!”

Nero’s bolter still clung to the slime of plague flies, but he saw the skirt of the Eldar envoy brush past the control panel beneath the magnificent relief.

Mevnir ignored the warlord’s threats. The spirit bone runes on her fingertips shone with emerald light, as if gathering something.

Connected to Cawl’s mechanical tentacles was a massive device. It slowly opened, revealing the true form within—the entire ‘Armor of Destiny,’ revealed to everyone.

“Theriault, stop them!”

Nero gave orders to the think tank director while raising his hand. The cannon mounted under the power fist aimed at the alien wizard and was about to fire.

The shell had just been fired when it was hit by a bolt of lightning. It exploded in mid-air, knocking over several unfortunate demons.

This was Gu Jing’s move.

He persuaded: “They have already started. We can’t stop. Trust them for once. Now, we need a son of God to save us. The entire empire needs it too.”

Nero turned a deaf ear to the persuasion. He furiously tore apart a vampire that rushed to his side and continued to give orders to the think tank director, asking him to use his psychic power to stop their actions of “murdering” the father of genes.

But Theriault refused and began to persuade the chapter master.

The mechanical voice of the great sage was mixed with the binary chant of Mars: “The life support protocol has been activated.”
