Chapter 817, Trap

Alvin cast a worried glance at the other two Dragon Elephant fighters.

He could handle the seven veterans on his own fighter, but what about the brothers on the other two?

His only consolation was that, when initially arranging the seating, he had placed seven of the thirteen chapter veterans next to him. The other two fighters each had only three. The remaining seven consisted of five Brotherhood members and two Alliance members.

On those two fighters, the Brotherhood held the advantage.

But as far as he knew, while his brothers in the team were all exceptional, none could match his level of skill.

And without one possessing overwhelming combat power, while the fighters were under ground fire and constantly maneuvering, and their own fighters were suddenly attacked, the outcome was truly unpredictable.

He had already found some time to send a communication signal to his brothers in the other two fighters.

But for a moment, all that could be heard were roars, gasps, and the violent reverberations of bolter fire in the cramped space…

Alvin was silent for a moment, then said to the pilot, “Let’s land.”

“Roger.” Even a mortal pilot, however slow, could vaguely sense what was happening inside the cabin.

He was confused and terrified, unsure what to do.

No one had told me about this!

How did these ‘angels’ of the Space Marines start fighting among themselves?

Why were they fighting? Is there a traitor? Who is the traitor? What should I do? Which side should I support? I can’t help much…

The bewildered pilot’s mind was filled with complex thoughts, but practically speaking… there was no choice but to do what needed to be done.

When ground fire came in, he maneuvered to evade; then, as if the outcome had been decided and they told me to land, I had no choice but to land.

After landing, he’d unload these plague monsters, then flee quickly. He’d then relay the news to his superiors and ask them what to do next…

This was not just his thought, but the pilots of the other two Dragon Elephants as well.

Alvin disembarked first. Ignoring the fighter that was about to flee, he gripped his weapon tightly, staring at the two fighters that landed shortly after.

He watched the doors of the two fighters slowly open, even preparing for the worst, bracing himself for a fight.

To his relief, the men who emerged were all members of the Brotherhood of the Pure Fire.

Though not all of them did. Of the ten Brotherhood members, only seven emerged; none of the four non-Brotherhood Alliance recruits emerged.

At that moment, the nine men around Alvin represented all the forces he could command.

The danger of the raid on the fighter had been averted. But did that mean all dangers were over?

Far from it.

He hadn’t forgotten that his arrival was at the order of his Captain, Nata.

Since the dozen or so veterans of his own squadron were determined to kill him, what would the entire company—the other two squadrons, plus the command group directly under the company commander—think like?

A greater crisis was just around the corner.

Alvin’s power armor servos hummed softly, and his tactical eyepiece sliced the terrain within a five-kilometer radius into countless data fragments. Gaza, a member of the Think Tank, launched a drone, guided by a servo-skull, scanning the surrounding area and sharing this information in real time with all his battle-brothers. Gaza himself, with his psychic link to the servo-skull, would be even more efficient in reconnaissance.

“At seven o’clock, a Dreadnought and a tactical squad; at eleven o’clock, a similar configuration; at four o’clock, a Terminator squad, Nata is there.” Shaka’s voice rang with the cryptic hum of electricity over the encrypted channel.

On the shared real-time map, Alvin could see a total of thirty-three red dots fanning out—the Hunter Squadron, led by Captain Nata himself.

According to Gaza, the configuration was quite impressive.

What else could Alvin say?

He could only crack a humorous joke, “It’s a good thing the whole company isn’t here.”

The joke had barely finished, and before he could respond, the first melta shells arrived.

It was a long-range fire from the Dreadnought.

“Scatter!” Alvin retrieved his primary weapon as he disembarked—his Thunder Hammer slammed into the ground, the recoil propelling him to the right.

The pile of rocks where he had been hiding vaporized in the melta beam, the splashing droplets scorching his power armor in puffs of smoke.

The other two Brotherhood members, chosen as targets, reacted quickly enough to avoid being hit.

“There’s an underground pipe network here! In!” Alvin dashed through the hail of bullets, his Thunder Hammer sweeping across to knock away two rocket missiles. “Shaka, take three teams and lay concussion mines. The rest of you, follow me and distract the Dreadnoughts!”

Nine figures raced across the wasteland, closing in on the nearby Hunting Squadron. They no longer concealed themselves, but opened fire relentlessly.

The most terrifying of all were the three mountain-like war machines pursuing them.

Listening to the recurring explosions on the radio, Alvin suddenly realized that the Dreadnoughts’ movements were unusually regular—they maintained an equilateral triangle formation, driving their prey toward specific coordinates.

“Stop!” He braked suddenly before a hundred-meter cliff, his power claws digging deep into the rock face. “It’s a trap!”

But it was too late.

The ground suddenly collapsed, revealing an underground pipe network filled with explosives.

Clearly, their earlier plan had failed. If they went in, they would all be doomed.

At that moment, a Brotherhood member fell into the abyss before he could react. The rumbling explosion made it clear that even the Space Marine’s power armor would not be able to save him in such an environment.

Nata’s voice came from above, “Your sacrifice will wash away your sins!”

Alvin suddenly stopped.

If he continued to be pursued like this, he would surely die.

He suddenly turned around, and the jet pack behind him provided him with maximum power. He carried him and his thunder hammer towards Nata, who was leading the charge fastest!

When Nata’s plasma gun lit up red, Alvin made a precise prediction and swung his hammer violently, blocking the fatal blow.

Nata knew Alvin’s ability and did not expect to kill the most outstanding member of the Alliance’s new blood.

He was ready with his power sword in his hand and engaged Alvin head-on. The two power armors collided in the air with a loud bang!
