Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 821
Chapter 816: Premonition Comes True
Alvin’s fingers rubbed the edge of his tactical goggles three times—the code of the Brotherhood of Pure Fire. As he looked up at the holographic star map, the retinal projection flashed with the warning Shaka had psychically inscribed: “Unusual frequency fluctuations on the back of the satellite.”
Thinking back to the company commander’s sudden call to assemble,
Alvin could sense a storm brewing.
“Maintain combat readiness.” After careful consideration, he typed the Brotherhood code into the encrypted channel: “Contingency Plan.”
With this command, thirteen of the thirty soldiers under his command as the Flag Sergeant received the message.
Simultaneously, any Brotherhood soldiers on Ruku, from the same company and even from other companies, would find a way to assemble on Ruku, as required by the Contingency Plan. Those
who simply couldn’t make it would be dealt with, but those who could, in accordance with Brotherhood charter, would all come.
Currently, the Brotherhood on Ruku totaled ninety-four.
This clearly posed a significant risk: How could he, as a standard-bearer, be qualified to rally warriors who didn’t belong to his own company?
And so many of them!
A rebellion, huh?
And the battle-brothers accompanying Alvin would be taking on enormous risks themselves.
In any other Chapter… well, even within the Unforgotten Oath, this would be outright mutiny. If the deed failed, even if all members were executed, it wouldn’t be unjust.
Of course, the consequences for him and his Brotherhood wouldn’t be so severe. After all, compared to the entire Chapter, those of them, hailing from the Alliance and even receiving secret orders from General Gu to investigate the Chapter’s secrets, possessed the strongest backing.
Even in the worst-case scenario, if he made a complete blunder, the Alliance would cover him, and at best, he would be shamefully expelled from the Chapter and exiled.
This was already a well-written document within the Space Marine Management Association. For Space Marines who have committed crimes but whose crimes do not warrant the death penalty, there is a special “Penalty Battalion.” These Marines are placed there and sent on missions where they must face certain death. If they survive, they will continue to serve until their penalty period is over. Their performance and combat records in the Penalty Battalion will be reported to their original Chapter. The original Chapter and the Governing Association will jointly assess whether the criminal can be sent back to their home Chapter.
If either party disagrees, they will remain in the Penalty Battalion.
This punishment may be better than death, as they can still fight for the Alliance, for humanity, and for their own honor, but it is still a huge price to pay.
Otherwise, how could it be called the Ultimate Plan? It would never be deployed until the final, ultimate moment.
When Alvin designed this system, he had assumed he would never see the need to use it.
Unexpectedly, it was activated so quickly.
Honestly, now might not be the right time. He had no concrete evidence to prove that things had truly reached such a final moment.
However, he had a strong premonition: if he didn’t activate this final plan now, then if the events later actually happened, he would have no chance.
And he was proven right.
…
An hour later, Alvin’s team, aboard three Dragon Elephant fighters, arrived above their target location.
“Everyone,” Alvin activated the squadron’s communication band. “We’ve received urgent orders from the company commander to conduct a tactical reconnaissance of the area below.”
The orderly clinking of armor echoed through the ranks, but Alvin could hear the rhythmic increase in breathing over the encrypted channel. In the silence, the glances exchanged between the team members created a strange atmosphere within the entire group.
“Sir, heat signature detected ahead,” the pilot suddenly sounded. “It’s an alien, please provide instructions.”
Alvin didn’t immediately respond to the order.
Shaka, standing beside him, nudged him twice with his elbow and signaled with his eyes,
“It’s a trap, but you must jump.”
Alvin let out a long breath and was about to give an order. The next moment, the Dragon Elephant fighter he was aboard suddenly shook violently!
“We’re under attack!” the pilot exclaimed, desperately maneuvering the aircraft to avoid ground fire.
Meanwhile, in his moment of weightlessness, Alvin saw the seven warriors in his fellow fighter plane making moves to draw their weapons.
He was on high alert.
Of his squadron of thirty, only thirteen were Brotherhood members. Of the remaining seventeen, four were Alliance members, and the remaining thirteen were all veterans of the Chapter.
For safety reasons, he had previously arranged to place the seven veterans on the same ship as himself, keeping a close eye on their movements.
But at this moment, Alvin hesitated. Drawing a weapon in such an emergency didn’t seem particularly unacceptable.
Was that enough to justify firing on his battle-brothers?
He didn’t.
He simply released the safety on his gun and quickly unfastened the multiple buckles of his safety harness.
This was a dangerous situation during the fighter’s rapid maneuvers. Even without fully releasing his weapons, his body was slightly tilted.
But it saved his life.
Seven bolters were aimed at him in an instant.
In a split second, he reacted quickly.
He fired first, piercing a veteran’s helmet head-on. At the same time, he quickly unfastened the last safety buckle. He was flung forward, but it allowed him to avoid the concentrated fire. The two bullets missed vital areas, not even penetrating his power armor.
As Alvin was flung back to the ground, the fighter had just finished a tactical maneuver and stabilized slightly. He took advantage of this opportunity to raise his charged plasma pistol and kill another man.
At the same time, he drew his tactical dagger and lunged at the remaining five survivors.
In a split second, Alvin no longer cared whether he could truly fight seven alone in such a confined situation. His adrenaline was surging, but his mind remained impeccably calm, transforming him into the most indifferent fighting machine.
As for his subordinates, the five surviving Space Marine veterans were no match for him.
Even though they had unfastened their safety harnesses at this moment, they still tried to fight Alvin in the narrow terrain and the environment where the fighter planes were constantly maneuvering. But they were completely no match for him, and were eventually killed one by one by Alvin with a tactical dagger.
In this process, the other two also helped a little.
Especially Shaka.
His reaction was also very sharp. From the very beginning of the battle, his psychic power interfered with the seven veterans of the regiment.
If not, the situation Alvin faced would be even more dangerous.
But despite the victory in the battle, Alvin’s mentality was still not at ease.
Now, all his premonitions have finally come true.
This is really a trap.
