Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 740
Chapter 737, Controllable Alpha Class
. “All of you, come together.”
The words sounded rather arrogant.
Perhaps, based on the battle reports from the front lines, the psychic instructors present could all recognize that Gu Hang possessed strength far exceeding that of an S-class psychic.
After all, many of them were S-class psychics themselves. They couldn’t do what Gu Hang could do, making the comparison straightforward.
But… what did “come together” mean?
At Dou Zhao’s request, the vast majority of the Mentor Committee members, save for those far away and unable to return, attended the exchange meeting.
All nine Grand Masters were S-class or above.
The over 200 members possessed at least the strength of A-class psychics. Seven of them had reached S-class, the same level as the Grand Masters, and they were only a position away from promotion.
Among the 16 S-class psychics, there were also S+ psychics like Dou Zhao, Margaret, and Ni Xun.
While S+ isn’t an official rank for psykers, it clearly designates those who are a notch above the standard S-class psyker.
With a group like this leading them, plus two hundred A- and A+-class psykers, Gu Hang claimed he could fight them single-handedly? Even
Alpha-class psykers would be defeated.
Many of them had experience dealing with Alpha-class psykers.
Alpha-class psykers were considered impossible for humans to stably control, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t possess them. In reality, some fortunate, or perhaps unlucky, individuals were particularly favored by the Warp. They functioned like a funnel, seamlessly connecting the real universe and the Warp. The ferocious Warp energy manifested within them as psychic energy.
Once their talent was revealed, their growth rate was incredibly rapid, far exceeding that of normal psykers. Initially, psychic energy was controlled by these exceptionally gifted individuals, whose immense power allowed them to wield it at will. However, as time passes, the power they wield grows stronger, requiring them to release it or they will explode and perish.
During this stage, the raging psychic energy damages the psyker’s soul. The corrupting Warp Chaos that accompanies this energy fills the gaping wounds, rapidly warping and twisting the psyker’s personality, ultimately transforming him into a demon constantly connected to the Warp.
This entire process is irreversible.
The Psionic Academy has attempted to harness this power. They employ technology to suppress psychic power and, through education, strengthen the Alpha Gifted’s mastery of psychic powers.
However, these measures are only effective temporarily. Over time, the Alpha psyker’s boundless psychic power will eventually destroy any suppressing devices, devouring the psyker, transforming him into a walking Warp monster. This will also create a channel connecting the real universe to the Warp, allowing demons, already aware of the threat, to swarm into the real universe. The Imperium
has faced this kind of psychic disaster countless times. If the worst-case scenario unfolds, it often spells the end of a world.
Therefore, persecution of psykers continues to occur across human worlds, precisely because of this fear.
A single careless move could lead to world destruction.
And destruction can be swift. An Alpha-class psyker, with a vast army of demons, can quickly sweep across the globe, leaving a planet’s own defenses largely defenseless, often unable to withstand even the Imperial government’s rescue efforts.
Early identification of Alpha-class psykers is crucial. The emergence of a psyker prodigy has a very small chance of being an Alpha-class psyker. The stronger the talent, the greater the potential for harm, and the greater the need for early intervention—that is, execution before it matures.
Those unable to identify psykers simply persecute and kill all those with psyker gifts.
However, there are always times when intervention is too late, and before a global catastrophe develops. Often, these situations require the combined efforts of the Psyker Order and the Inquisition.
Many of those present here have gained experience dealing with Alpha-class psykers from such situations.
Despite the help of the Inquisition and the numerous anti-psychic devices deployed to attempt to reduce and control dangerous Alpha-class psykers, the most crucial work still rested with the top psykers.
They had personally experienced that Alpha-class psykers were indeed extremely powerful, even beyond imagination.
However, with various means, they could still be dealt with.
Gu Hang was formidable, admittedly.
But even if he had steadily mastered Alpha-class psykers, and this place wasn’t like their past experience dealing with out-of-control Alpha-class psykers, with the help of the Inquisition and the suppression of various anti-psychic devices, they had never mobilized the entire Order of Psykers to deal with a single out-of-control Alpha-class.
That would be an exaggeration.
According to their assessment, Alpha psykers
were absolutely capable of fighting back. In fact, with their combined strength, they could completely suppress them.
Furthermore, some believed that psykers above the Alpha level were simply impossible for humans to control. This was a truth proven both theoretically and through countless historical studies.
Gu Hang was nothing more than a more powerful S+-class psyker.
His performances on the battlefield were exaggerated, partly because he was truly formidable; but also, they suspected, the front lines had exaggerated the power of psykers, perhaps inflating their military achievements.
This was Margaret’s thinking.
In a one-on-one encounter, perhaps a strong S+, or perhaps even a stable Alpha-class psyker, would have been a terrifying force to overwhelm every member of the Order.
This was Margaret’s concern.
After all, they were an Order of Psykers, not a purely administrative body. When selecting high-ranking Instructors and Grand Instructors, strength was paramount. Without reaching S-class, one couldn’t even meet the minimum threshold for becoming a Grand Instructor.
If Gu Hang truly demonstrated his immense psyker prowess, the impact of Dou Zhao’s earlier misstep might be partially offset.
But now, all of them?
They’d crush him!
What a great opportunity!
It would be best if Gu Hang could be neutralized.
Margaret quietly mobilized her psychic energy and conveyed this message to her closest companions.
Although they were few in number, if they joined forces and took action, it was entirely possible that they could channel the psychic energy of all of them and cause irreparable damage.
As she conveyed the message, Margaret felt Gu Hang’s gaze glance towards her.
Her heart skipped a beat: Could I be discovered?
But when he looked again, he found that Gu Hang was still smiling and talking with Dou Zhao and Ni Xun, and he felt that he was a little too sensitive.
The psychic communication she had with others should be very secretive. How could it be so easy to be detected?
Meanwhile, Gu Hang’s communication with Dou Zhao had also ended.
Dou Zhao was a little reluctant, but finally agreed to Gu Hang.
Let’s go together. Let’s go together.
Hopefully, we won’t lose too badly.
…
Gu Hang looked at the psychics in front of him with admiration. Those psychics stood in a square formation, and a powerful force rose up.
The foundation of the psychic order is still quite good.
The combined power of this group of high-level psykers was formidable.
But…
“Still not giving it your all,” Gu Hang sighed softly.
The way to maximize the abilities of dozens or even hundreds of psykers was to combine their psychic energy according to specific rules, creating a combined force.
The members of the Order of Psykers naturally understood
this. But they didn’t do so immediately.
Perhaps they felt it unnecessary, believing that the sheer number of people in the computer room would be enough to defeat Gu Hang?
Gu Hang felt it necessary to make them truly aware of the difference.
“I’m about to begin, please pay attention,”
he warned.
Then, after a brief pause, seeing that all the opposing psykers had further strengthened their powers and prepared themselves, Gu Hang launched his attack.
Without any gimmicks, terrifying psyker power surged through Gu Hang in an instant. Using the most basic force field psychic energy, he evenly distributed the power to every psyker in the Order of Psykers.
Alpha-level psyker power was fully displayed in that instant.
Even with a perfectly even distribution, the overwhelming majority of A-level psykers instantly felt the tightening, constricting sensation.
They were horrified!
This was merely ordinary force field psychic energy!
Each of them was protected by a psychic shield, but under the high pressure, it froze like paper, barely holding up for a few breaths. Noticing their shields rapidly depleting, each immediately poured in more energy to maintain their hold, but it was of little use, barely lasting three or five seconds, only to increase it to seven or eight before the shields were ultimately crushed.
Then, they felt their bodies completely enveloped by the force field.
Many paled, feeling doomed: in this state, if Gu Hang exerted even the slightest force, they would be crushed to death. Without the protection of their psychic energy, psychics’ fragile bodies were no different from those of mortals.
Of course, Gu Hang wouldn’t do that.
In this moment, he displayed remarkable psyker control. Those controlled felt like they were trapped within a soft sponge. As long as they didn’t struggle too hard, they were safe. However, the slightest attempt to exert force would only increase the restraint.
This state of affairs was astonishing: such a sophisticated method of control was far more difficult than simply crushing someone to death.
Some remained unconvinced, believing that being controlled was already a defeat, and that their survival was simply due to “communication,” not a life-or-death confrontation. But if that were the case, didn’t this mean they still had a chance?
They tried to regroup and rebuild their defenses.
But at these moments, Gu Hang would become a bit more aggressive.
The moment someone entertained this thought and attempted to act on it, a wave of overwhelming fear surged within them. Instantly, they felt as if a force were gripping their heart, instantly losing all courage and unable to resist.
Once the thought faded, the fear receded.
The instructors, with their extensive knowledge of psychic powers, could readily recognize this as a masterful application of psychic powers.
Many of them knew how to do it. But simultaneously overcoming the psychological defenses of two hundred A-level and above psychics and achieving complete control?
It was simply unrealistic.
The A-level psychics were effectively killed in an instant.
The remaining sixteen S-level and even S+ psychics weren’t so instantly killed. But with their psychic energy surrounding them, they could only hold on.
Margaret was the most shocked.
After experiencing the power disparity firsthand, she instantly abandoned her previous, rather naive, notions.
Alpha-level psychic power was impossible to master?
If this wasn’t Alpha-level psychic power, then what was it?
Objectively speaking, the psychic power displayed by Gu Hang surpassed the level of regular Alpha-level psychics they had dealt with, but not by much.
The core reason they had been able to handle it with fewer men was the difference in control.
At Alpha level, psychics couldn’t control their power. Psionic energy would leak out in a disorderly and unbridled manner. The most important effect had nothing to do with the psionicist’s thoughts, but rather the characteristics of the subspace power being transmitted into the real universe, resulting in a corresponding destructive effect. In fact, at this level, psionicists usually lose their ability to think.
However, if this level of power could be consciously controlled and utilized, the resulting effect would far exceed the chaotic release of psionic energy.
There was no way to resist, absolutely no way to resist.
This was Margaret’s only thought.
Trying to hold on to her shields from being ripped apart by the force field psionic energy consumed all her energy.
Assassinating Gu Hang?
Don’t be ridiculous.
How could she possibly be assassinated when she couldn’t even resist?
And soon, that resistance was gone.
When the A-level psionicists lost their ability to resist, freeing Gu Hang up, or perhaps simply because he was more focused, the sudden increase in psionic power rendered Margaret’s shields ineffective.
Not only her, but other S-class and S+-class psykers were also crushed within a second or two.
In the end, over two hundred of the empire’s top psykers were suspended in mid-air, about a meter above the ground, unable to move.
If this were a life-or-death confrontation, the Order of Psykers could be declared annihilated.
The entire process took no more than thirty seconds.
Is this a controllable Alpha-class psyker?
Terrifying indeed.
