Chapter 736 Let’s go together

! “Dou Zhao must be getting senile.”

“I demand the immediate initiation of impeachment proceedings against Dou Zhao!”

“A man who betrays the Order, who would abandon its most glorious history, is unfit to lead!”

Daphne Margaret, in the Mentors’ Council of the Psychic Order, raised her hands, passionately denouncing the current Grand Master.

She didn’t even spare the old mage a glance.

While the two had once shared a mentor-disciple relationship, that was long ago. Ambition and conflicting positions had long since separated them. She had become a vocal opponent within the Psychic Order, vying with her classmate, Ni Xun, also a student of Dou Zhao, for the title of Grand Master after his departure.

Her enemies were her treacherous junior fellow apprentice and her biased teacher—that was her belief.

But she hadn’t anticipated the sudden emergence of Gu Hang.

When this proposal was raised in the Mentors’ Council, she vehemently opposed it.

However, her objection was ineffective.

This proposal wasn’t just from Dou Zhao. Ni Xun, whom she had once considered “sinister and despicable, only interested in currying favor with the Master,” also strongly supported it. The entire Master Committee seemed unanimously supportive.

Gu Hang’s psychic abilities, demonstrated on the front lines, were a terrifying reality for those who understood psychics. Furthermore

, Gu Hang possessed more than just powerful psychic abilities.

He was also a powerful vassal of the Empire and a hero with distinguished military achievements. This meant he possessed ample political influence and financial resources to support and develop the psychic order.

Combined, there was no one in the entire empire more suited to be the Chief Master than Gu Hang.

Those with resources and status didn’t possess such powerful psychic abilities; and those with such powerful psychic abilities… well, the entire empire had never seen anyone so formidable.

It was as if the Imperial Chancellor were still alive.

If there were no conflict of interest, Daphne Margaret would also think it would be a great thing for Gu Hang to become the Grand Master of the Psychic Order.

But isn’t that a conflict of interest?

She wants to be the Grand Master herself.

If I’m not the Grand Master, then the revival of the Psychic Order is meaningless.

Of course, such things can be thought about in her mind, but she can’t speak them out loud.

She can only criticize them with other arguments,

but they won’t work.

She is almost desperate, even disheartened, and ready to leave the Psychic Order.

After all, I’m an S-rank psychic, and I have my own supporters within the Order. If all else fails, I can go it alone or join another faction. There’s always a

chance. Until just now, a huge opportunity presented itself to her.

After meeting with Gu Hang, Dou Zhao convened a meeting and announced a decision: to discuss relinquishing the Psychic Order’s authority over all psychics in the Empire.

This move caused an uproar among the Council of Masters.

What was the foundation of the Psychic Order’s greatness? Isn’t it based on the principle that all psychic forces across the empire should obey the Order’s orders?

If this were abandoned, what would the Order even be called?

Countless people thought Dou Zhao was losing his mind.

Some, more perceptive, quickly realized that this wasn’t Dou Zhao’s own idea.

The Chief Mentor had suddenly proposed this proposal, without any prior warning, after meeting Gu Hang.

Although Dou Zhao didn’t say it, it was easy to guess: this was likely a prerequisite for Gu Hang to take over the Order.

Those who heard this split their opinions.

Some fell silent.

These people likely shared Dou Zhao’s perspective. They felt that the Order’s current situation was dire and that clinging to the status quo was a recipe for ruin. Revitalization required innovation. Abandoning the nominal, yet ultimately useless, power in exchange for a leader with the resources and ability to truly lead the Order’s revival might be a good idea.

But the event was still too shocking, a direct challenge to the very foundation of the Psychic Order, and they hesitated to support it.

Others, however, saw it differently.

They saw it as a betrayal.

They were deeply disappointed by Gu Hang’s attitude. They felt that this kind of revival was not the kind they wanted.

And this was where Margaret saw her opportunity.

She had already been considering running away, but she seized the opportunity, stepped forward, and directed her criticism at Dou Zhao.

Dou Zhao remained silent, so Ni Xun stepped forward and engaged her in a heated debate.

During this moment, Margaret unleashed some classic words.

“The laws of our ancestors cannot be changed!”

“This is a betrayal!”

“Gu Hang is not here to lead our revival, but to dismember us!”

Her words resonated strongly with the crowd.

Combined with her established supporters, they quickly gathered enough people to initiate the impeachment process against the Grand Master!

Impeachment requires the joint initiative of two of the nine Grand Masters, and the approval of one-third of the current Grand Master Committee.

After the initiative is launched, all the mentor committee members need to vote. If more than half of the votes are cast, the chief can be overthrown.

Currently, the total number of members of the Psychic Order Committee is 217, and there are 134 people attending the meeting this time.

At the moment, she has obtained 57 votes, and there are still 52 votes short.

Victory is in sight!

The remaining 70 or so votes at the on-site meeting were not all against. Many abstained, and these people can be pursued; there are also more than 70 people who did not attend the meeting due to distance or responsibilities. They are also targets that can be pursued!

Margaret was ecstatic!

This is something that has not been done for many years!

And now it has been done!

I am so lucky that the teacher has become confused in his old age!

Ignoring the younger students who were still noisy, Margaret looked at Dou Zhao with the attitude of a winner.

The chief slowly stood up.

Margaret shuddered for no apparent reason.

Dou Zhao had been the chief for a long time, accumulating a great reputation and considerable strength.

Crucially, she knew her teacher’s death was nigh. A dying man could do anything mad.

For example, wasn’t this proposal, which Dou Zhao, with his century-long reputation, couldn’t suppress the opposition, crazy enough?

The entire committee meeting fell silent.

He may be old, but his might remains.

However, under her and everyone’s nervous gaze, Dou Zhao simply stood up without any further drastic actions.

He coughed lightly and said, “I fully respect the impeachment process of the conference. However, as long as the formal impeachment process is held within 15 days, it meets the rules. Tomorrow is the time I will invite Gu Hang to the Order for an exchange. In the name of the Chief Grand Master, I require all members to be present tomorrow.”

“I think you need to see the true power of psychic energy.”

…

“Why are you so confident?”

After the meeting, Ni Xun couldn’t help but question his teacher.

Of course, he was Dou Zhao’s most staunch supporter and spared no effort to fight at the meeting.

But he actually had doubts.

Dou Zhao shook his head and said, “You’ll see it tomorrow, too.”

“I understand. After all, you were the one who sent me to the front lines during this Iron Armor War. I’ve also witnessed Governor Gu’s magnificent displays. I know that psychic energy is a powerful force. A sufficient force of psychics, led by a powerful archmage, can determine the outcome of a battle. Governor Gu excels in this area, and his psychic abilities, surpassing the Alpha level, are truly remarkable. I never imagined that someone could single-handedly change the course of a battlefield on such a scale…”

“But even if that’s the case, so what? A single psychic, even if powerful enough to influence the outcome of an entire battle, can they truly influence the entire empire? Our Order of Psychics has never lacked powerful psychics. S-level psychics don’t appear one by one, but in waves. Yet, our situation has never improved.”

At this point, Ni Xun sighed, his mood darkening.

This has always been the dilemma facing the Order of Psychics.

Powerful individuals?

They’re already powerful enough. S-Class psykers can even overwhelm Space Marines!

They can even stand up to Chapter Champions.

Moreover, a psyker’s versatility and wide-area destructive power are unmatched by a Chapter Champion.

Furthermore, this is a power that mortals can control.

But so what?

Even the most powerful individuals pale into insignificance against the vastness of the Imperium.

Nothing can change…

“You simply don’t fully understand ‘true power.'”

Ni Xun turned, only to see a blue light flickering in his teacher’s eyes.

“I can see it, I can feel it… He’s far from reaching His limits.”

“But even now, it’s enough.”

“We’re welcoming more than just a leader; we’re perhaps welcoming a new Chancellor.”

Ni Xun was momentarily puzzled, then stunned by his teacher’s words.

Chancellor?

The title Chancellor is different from Prime Minister.

Prime Minister refers to a position, the head of the Imperial government, overseeing the four major Imperial administrative organs—the Ministry of Military Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Taxation, and the Executive Yuan. Typically, this person holds a high position within the High Lords’ Council

. Some iron-blooded Prime Ministers, with their stern tactics, may even wield supreme power throughout the Empire, forcing the other High Lords to bow down to them. For example, the current Prime Minister, Qi Bodu, has shown some signs of this in the decades since the death of the Sun Lord.

But the Chancellor is different.

It’s a special title, much like the Emperor.

It refers to the person who stood by the Emperor’s side at the founding of the Empire and could be considered his closest ally.

He was an Immortal and arguably the most powerful psychic in the Empire’s history.

After his passing, the Empire has been without a Chancellor.

“Teacher, isn’t that a bit… too much?”

Dou Zhao stopped explaining, the light in his eyes fading.

The slightly weary Chief Master said to his most loyal student, “Go contact the Imperial Guards and tell them we might have some activity tomorrow. Tell them not to panic.”

…

Gu Hang felt around, then said with deep emotion, “This place is truly well done.”

He arrived as scheduled today, at the Psychic Order’s exchange field.

This field was located within the Imperial Palace—the Imperial Palace itself was enormous, occupying the entire area that was once the roof of the world. Many of the Imperial government’s most important institutions were housed within the palace.

The Psychic Order was no exception ,

and so was this exchange field.

Gu Hang was impressed by the fact that this field offered no power restrictions to psychics within it, allowing them to unleash their powers without reservation. However, a powerful protective shield had formed around the field, preventing psychic power from exceeding this critical point.

The Alliance also had related technology, which Gu Hang had already explored, among the many technologies that needed no special mention.

But the quality of the Alliance’s Mage Academy’s creations was clearly incomparable to this one—the cost difference was enormous, and the technical level was several notches higher.

Having something like this would be extremely useful for training and cultivating high-level psykers, and would also be a significant aid in developing new psyker techniques.

Gu Hang was quite envious.

Seeing his expression, a clear, cold snort echoed from the crowd.

Gu Hang looked over and saw a red-haired woman staring at him with undisguised hostility.

Gu Hang simply responded with a polite smile, then turned to face Dou Zhao and asked, “Mr. Chief, what format should we use for this exchange?”

Dou Zhao said, “We have some non-mandatory communication processes. For example, you can demonstrate your skills in controlling psychic powers, or you can demonstrate the strength of your psychic powers. Finally, we can arrange for some psychic masters to have some friendly psychic confrontations with you. During this process, the committee members will observe from the side, and we can have some questions and answers at any time.”

“It sounds quite formal. However, I remember you told me that you hope all committee members can clearly understand the level of psychic powers I currently possess?”

“Yes.”

“I have an idea. I don’t know if it is in line with the process, but I think it should best reflect your needs.”

“Oh? Go ahead.”

“Why don’t you all come together? This exchange area is quite large, enough for all of you to demonstrate your strength, and let me see the current strength of the Psychic Order.”
