Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 569
Chapter 567: Is Gu Hang with thick eyebrows and big eyes also a traitor?
Du Bo wasn’t a psychic, but with the aid of his machine, he could clearly see, from a high-dimensional perspective, the power of the neurozoa under his control being pierced.
Honestly, seeing the mass of psychic energy he controlled pierced through with a massive hole, leading directly to the Alfonzo II, his ship, his mechanical heart trembled violently.
The more he studied the power of psychic energy, the more he felt awe. Its capabilities were so vast and terrifying.
In an instant, he issued a series of orders.
The ship’s void shields were to be prepared for impact; the maintenance team was to be on standby at all times; the backup void shield was to be ready and activated immediately if the current void shield system failed…
These orders were issued out of fear that something dangerous might happen, causing problems for the fleet’s most vital core ship.
However, none of his fears materialized.
Alfonzo II’s void shields were intact, unaffected by the pressure.
The computing units in his mind rapidly analyzed the situation, extracting information from the psychic clash between the two, trying to determine Gu Hang’s intentions.
Since Gu Hang wasn’t attacking the void shield,
then he was targeting…
“Boom!”
Just as his calculations were nearly complete, an explosion echoed.
His calculations were meaningless.
The consequences had already occurred.
“We’ve been invaded!”
a message came in.
Du Bo didn’t issue any specific orders. The ship had a complete and sophisticated response system for combating boarding and enemy incursions.
He needed to see for himself what was happening.
And then, he was stunned.
The enemy… they were indeed enemies, but their type was truly unexpected. He
had never seen them before.
They were pale blue, translucent figures, each seemingly individual, wearing a variety of uniforms, such as the plasteel battle armor of ordinary soldiers, and a few pieces of power armor. However, these equipment were likely just for show, meaningless in actual combat. At their core, they were still entities composed of energy.
This nature was somewhat similar to that of Chaos Daemons: both were Warp forces, condensed into physical entities in the real world.
Du Bo briefly thought he was facing off against the power of some Chaos cultist.
Gu Hang, you thick-browed, big-eyed fellow, you’ve also become a traitor? Just in a different direction?
But he soon sensed something different.
The power displayed by those… Heroic Spirits wasn’t as extreme as that of the Abyssal Daemons.
This wasn’t about sheer strength; in fact, the sources of power these Heroic Spirits wielded were diverse: storms, gales, and thunder.
But in another way, they didn’t exhibit the extreme emotions of those Abyssal Daemons.
Some good, some bad.
Based on the Alfonzo Cult’s previous experience fighting Abyssal Daemons, they were a formidable foe. If a Daemon invaded a ship, even machinery could be infected and bewildered by the Warp forces embodied by such extreme emotions.
Machines, too, could be bewitched.
These Heroic Spirits, however, didn’t exhibit these traits.
They appeared rational, like living beings—or rather, like possessing the souls of living beings.
Regardless, the good news was that they couldn’t allow the machines to be possessed; they were far more disciplined than normal Chaos Abyss demons, which was terrible news for the ship’s defenders.
Du Bo felt utterly disgusted.
“…When the war is almost over, I’ll expose Gu Hang’s evil deeds!”
“Calling us traitors? He’s a traitor too!! He can actually summon demons!”
Although Du Bo knew these Heroic Spirits were definitely different from demons, they were also creatures composed of pure Warp power, powers not normally wielded by humans, not even the most powerful psionic masters.
Even if they weren’t drawing on the power of the four most powerful Unholy Gods of the Warp, they were still relying on the power of lesser Warp Unholy Gods.
Still, it was a taboo.
But he quickly realized that he had to keep his fleet alive first.
Otherwise, if his entire crew were destroyed in space, then there would be no way they could go out and criticize Gu Hang.
On the War Ark, the elite Skitarii had already taken action.
The Heroic Spirits that appeared were being rapidly eliminated.
These Heroic Spirits were powerful and elite. However, according to information transmitted by Sage Paulson, who commanded the Skitarii, their combat power was roughly equivalent to that of the top-tier warriors of the Imperial Astra Militarum.
Were they strong? Of course, they were very strong.
However, the troops capable of serving as Skitarii on the Alfonzo II were undoubtedly the absolute elite of the entire sect’s armed forces.
The massive Knight Mechs were difficult to maneuver and fight within the ship, but some of their smaller units were formidable opponents.
This included not only Sentinel Mechs, but also some Squire-class Knight Mechs.
These were significantly smaller than regular Ranger-class Knight Mechs, but still slightly larger than Sentinels. Their firepower was not much greater than that of Sentinels, after all, their size meant they could not be equipped with heavy firepower. However, their mobility, armor, and a small shield generator made their actual combat capabilities far superior to those of Sentinels.
Beyond the squire knights from various orders, even more formidable are the ship’s automated soldiers.
To those unfamiliar with the nuances, these automated soldiers might appear somewhat similar to the omnics, but their core is fundamentally different.
The omnics are pure machines from head to toe, soulless and devoid of any flesh and blood, relying entirely on one or more core robotic chips working together to power their mechanical bodies.
However, the automated soldiers of the Mechanicus are different.
Despite the term “automatic,” these creatures are essentially still… human?
Or, rather, servitors.
Individuals who have had portions of their brains removed and have undergone servitor surgery have had their bodies modified to the highest possible hardware specifications, creating automated soldiers.
These are a vital force within the Skitarii. Some are extremely well-equipped, even custom-built by high-ranking Mechanicus members, making them incredibly elite.
When both the Skitarii and the Knights are mobilized, it’s natural that the Heroic Spirits that invade the ships are eliminated.
While no one was inferior to the other, the sheer number of Heroic Spirits simultaneously present in the same location within the ship was ultimately a disadvantage.
However, before Sage Paulson, responsible for ship security, could rest easy, new reports arrived: large numbers of Heroic Spirits had appeared in over a dozen other areas of the ship!
Paulson, along with several other Sages who had been called in for assistance and were leading their own teams, formed a command structure and assigned teams to extinguish fires throughout the ship.
These Heroic Spirits proved impossible to annihilate.
Even after eliminating all the Heroic Spirits stationed in one area, more continued to emerge from the Warp rifts. They then prayed to the God of All Machines and used blessed machines to close the Warp rifts, but two more would open, requiring further extinguishing.
The entire Alfonzo II was immense, resembling a space hive, encompassing a forty-kilometer-long structure, even larger than a Nemesis-class battleship, and encompassing hundreds of floors.
Even with over 15 million Mechanicus units active within the ship, covering every area was a challenge.
Overall, however, the Mechanicus maintained a good defense of the entire ship. Key areas received their utmost protection, and no problems had arisen.
However, this “no problems” must be qualified with some words: temporarily, and in key areas.
Less important areas were far less well protected.
For example, a Warp rift had opened up in the lower deck.
This area contained only a few Mechanicus units, and was not a critical area, serving as a laborer’s quarters.
The Heroic Spirits that emerged swiftly eliminated the few remaining laborers operating in the area and blocked any outbound communication.
While the upper decks were in chaos, they silently protected the Warp rift as it grew larger. More and more Heroic Spirits emerged from the rift, from the Storm Kingdom within
. Soon, division after division of Heroic Spirits emerged, unnoticed by the Mechanicus.
When the number of Heroic Spirits assembled here exceeded 160,000, forming four large infantry divisions according to the Alliance’s military organization, they needed to continuously expand their occupied territory to accommodate the growing numbers.
It was at this point that a patrol they had annihilated, despite their strong blockade, managed to pass along the news.
Now that they had been discovered, they no longer hid.
Under the command of their “division commanders” and “officers,” these Heroic Spirits, who had sacrificed their lives for the Alliance on battlefield after battlefield and now rested in Gu Hang’s divine kingdom, awakened once more and continued to fight for the Alliance.
In fact, they relished it.
They had been eager to do so for a long time.
The Heroic Spirits, rushing out frantically, quickly scattered the Skitarii, who had no idea they had caused such a commotion in the lower hold.
Judging from the ship, the Skitarii still held an absolute numerical advantage, but from a local perspective, the Skitarii, unable to mobilize in time, were actually outnumbered in the battle.
Furthermore, they also had some problems with their command.
Due to an underestimation of the number of Heroic Spirits, they were too eager to destroy them. They mistakenly launched offensives again and again, and the Skitarii troops mobilized from the surrounding areas often followed the signals and requests for assistance from the friendly units fighting ahead and rushed directly into the fiercest fighting before they could reunite with other friendly forces.
This became a tactic of adding fuel to the fire.
