Chapter 1461 The Divine Move

Zu’an was somewhat puzzled. He had never heard of any holy maiden among the Yellow Turbans, especially with Zhang Jiao, the Great Teacher of Wisdom, present. Why would they allow some holy maiden to share his power?

Thousands of Yellow Turban soldiers had already gathered in the plaza ahead, all wearing yellow turbans and carrying torches due to the darkness. They excitedly bowed to a carriage.

The crowd stirred, but not in panic—it was the feeling of long-awaited fulfillment, the trembling and fervor of believers about to meet their deity.

The carriage curtain fluttered in the wind, vaguely revealing a woman seated inside.

The woman wore a veil, which seemed to be a magical artifact, concealing her true appearance.

Even Zu’an’s Eye of Insight couldn’t see through it; he could only sense her beauty and holiness.

She wore a plain white robe of excellent quality, not the coarse linen common among the Yellow Turbans, but genuine silk, which shimmered warmly in the surrounding firelight.

The robes were devoid of superfluous ornamentation, adorned only with pale silver cloud patterns embroidered at the collar and cuffs, almost imperceptible unless closely examined. A delicate silver chain cinched her waist, tinkling subtly with each movement of the numerous believers, like the distant chimes of a wind chime.

The moment they saw her, the Yellow Turban soldiers along the route knelt in unison.

It was an absolute, unconditional submission.

These men, whose faces had been ferocious just moments before, now seemed devoid of all their ferocity, their foreheads pressed tightly to the ground, some even trembling—not from fear, but from overwhelming excitement.

They murmured “Holy Maiden,” “Holy Maiden,” the voices gushing from thousands of mouths simultaneously, merging into a massive wave of sound that echoed through the night sky.

Zu An’s expression was strange; this atmosphere felt like watching “Zhou Chu Eliminating the Three Evils.”

He curiously scrutinized the woman in the carriage, noticing that this Holy Maiden’s aura was completely out of place amidst the blood and fire of the surrounding battlefield.

Her eyebrows were long and light, as if drawn with an extremely fine brush and then left untouched, the ends curving slightly downwards, carrying a hint of barely perceptible compassion.

Her eyes were like two unfathomable pools, quietly set in her clean-cut face.

Most striking was what she held in her hands—not a weapon, not a magical artifact, but a scroll.

It was a bamboo scroll, held in her hands, pressed against her chest, as if cradling some extremely important sacred object.

Her fingers were long and slender, white, with distinct knuckles but not thin, the fingertips lightly gripping the edge of the scroll, as if ready to open it at any moment, or perhaps simply wanting to hold it, feeling the peace it brought.

Surrounded by fervent believers, she didn’t seem like a religious leader, but rather a noblewoman who had survived the flames of war, stumbled into this battlefield of swords and spears, helplessly searching for a corner where she could read in peace.

For some reason, Zu An felt a strange familiarity with this woman, but the mask on her face concealed her presence, making it difficult for him to recognize her.

He couldn’t help but ask Princess Nihuang beside him, “Who exactly is she?”

Princess Nihuang pursed her lips and said, “She’s the eldest brother’s daughter, Zhang Ning.”

“Zhang Ning?” Zu An murmured the name, seemingly unfamiliar with it. “Didn’t you say you knew someone I knew?”

“Let her tell you herself later,” Princess Nihuang smiled.

Zu An’s teeth itched; this woman hadn’t learned her lesson the past few days. He needed to find an opportunity to teach her another lesson.

At this moment, the Holy Maiden in the carriage also noticed them. Upon seeing Zu An, she trembled, her previously calm eyes flashing with a strange light.

She even instinctively wanted to get up, but considering her surroundings, she forced herself to remain calm.

She tried to encourage the many Yellow Turban believers with a calm voice, and soon their morale, which had been low due to recent defeats, instantly soared.

Seeing this, Zu’an couldn’t help but sigh to Princess Nihuang, “How come she seems to have a higher status than you in the Yellow Turban Army?”

Princess Nihuang didn’t seem to care, “Her status has always been higher than mine.”

Zu’an: “???”

She was the second-in-command of the Yellow Turban Army, after all. How could a mere girl be higher than her, aside from Zhang Jiao?

Princess Nihuang didn’t explain, but instead stepped forward to greet the Holy Maiden, saying she wanted to discuss important matters regarding the upcoming war with the imperial court.

Only then did she ask the fanatical believers to make way. Soon, the Holy Maiden, led by her, walked towards the main tent of the army. Her hair was long and untied, flowing freely down her back, as black as ink. Against her plain white robe, compared to the surrounding Yellow Turban soldiers, she looked more like a figure from a traditional Chinese ink painting.

Strands of hair fluttered gently in the night breeze, occasionally brushing against her cheek. She would then naturally raise her hand to tuck them behind her ears, a gesture as gentle as touching a fragile treasure.

This action only seemed to pique Zu An’s curiosity further, as he had secretly tried to contact her several times, but received no response.

He even worried that he might have been fooled by Princess Nihuang and had been too forward with a stranger.

Upon entering the main tent, Princess Nihuang ordered the others to leave.

The moment the curtain was drawn, the previously quiet and reserved Holy Maiden suddenly threw herself into Zu An’s arms.

“Brother Zu, guess who I am?” Her voice was no longer as pure and aloof as when she met the believers; instead, it held a playful glint.

Zu An held her, finally understanding why she hadn’t responded: “You’re my darling.”

The saintess lifted her head from his embrace, looking at him with some surprise: “How did you know it was me? This veil of mine was woven from a long river of time by the True God of Memory; it can conceal all kinds of prying eyes.”

Zu An smiled and raised his hand: “Don’t I know your figure well enough? I can tell who’s who just by touching you with my eyes closed.”

Xie Daoyun had experienced his divine touch before, and her face instantly turned red with embarrassment: “You’re so annoying~”

Zu An removed the veil from her face, seeing that familiar, quiet, and reserved face, with a delicate nose and pale lips, like a flower bud about to bloom in early spring. He couldn’t resist kissing her.

Xie Daoyun let out a soft moan and responded passionately.

After a while, a soft cough came from the side: “Are you two ever going to stop? There are other people here.”

Zu An was shameless, but Xie Daoyun was extremely embarrassed and quickly pushed him away.

“Sister Ling’er, what exactly is going on? Why are those Yellow Turban followers so devoted to you? I even feel they respect you more than they respect General Di Gong.” Zu’an finally asked the question that had been bothering him.

Xie Daoyun smiled and said, “Because I created Zhang Jiao and his two siblings.”

Zu’an: “???”
