Chapter 1399 Unrighteous

She had expected the guy beside her to find a good reason to refuse, but to her surprise, he readily agreed, “Okay!”

Xi He immediately stared at him, her eyes wide with disbelief. If there hadn’t been other people present, she probably would have already questioned him.

I helped you steal the elixir of immortality, and now I’m going to lose someone in the process?

The somewhat tense atmosphere around them instantly lightened, and everyone offered their congratulations.

Zu’an and his companion were quickly escorted to the Heavenly Palace. Seeing the festive decorations everywhere, Donghuang Taiyi laughed, “Brother, the recent disappearances of you and sister-in-law have caused widespread panic. Even the battle against Xuanyuan at the front lines is faltering. As the saying goes, ‘the day is not the day,’ so why don’t we marry today to reassure the world?”

“Yes, these days there are all sorts of rumors, and everyone’s hearts are unsettled.”

“There are even rumors from Xuanyuan that you, Heavenly Emperor, have fallen, and all the forces in the world are starting to stir.”

…

The other demon generals around them chimed in, also agreeing with the immediate marriage; clearly, the situation in the Heavenly Court was quite dangerous.

Xihe was somewhat anxious; she hadn’t expected to face such a situation upon arrival.

Zu An remained calm, wrapping his arm around her waist: “Very good!”

Xi He: “???”

Cheers erupted around them. Xi He was then escorted by fairies to get ready, the whole process leaving her completely bewildered. It wasn’t until she was dressed in a phoenix coronet and wedding gown, and seeing her beautiful reflection in the mirror, that she finally came to her senses.

“Your Majesty, you are so beautiful! No celestial maiden can compare to you,” a serving fairy couldn’t help but exclaim.

Xi He abruptly stood up to find Zu An. How could she have married so hastily?

The fairies beside her were immediately alarmed: “Your Majesty, what are you going to do? Your makeup isn’t finished yet!”

“To find the Heavenly Emperor!” Xi He gritted her teeth, suspecting that he might be deliberately taking advantage of her.

The fairies around her laughed: “Your Majesty, why the rush? After the wedding, you can talk as long as you want tonight.”

Hearing the teasing laughter of the onlookers, Xi He blushed deeply, wanting to lash out but unsure how to respond.

Fortunately, the door opened at that moment, and Zu An walked in. The fairies hurriedly bowed to him: “Greetings, Heavenly Emperor!”

“You may all leave first. I need to speak with her,” Zu An waved his hand.

The fairies exchanged glances. Actually, this was somewhat against the rules, but the Heavenly Emperor was the highest authority in the world, and his word was law.

So they all took their leave, trying hard to suppress their laughter. This couple was really something; the woman couldn’t wait to see the man, and the man couldn’t wait to see her either.

Taking in the reactions of those people, Xi He blushed with embarrassment: “It’s all your fault. I wonder how they’re going to laugh at me now.”

“Why care so much about what others think when you’re alive?”

“You make it sound so easy!” Xi He gritted her teeth. “What do you mean? We clearly agreed to come find the elixir of immortality, how did it turn into a marriage?”

“You saw what happened just now. Everyone wanted us to get married, so let’s do it,” Zu An smiled.

“So it’s settled then?” Xihe nearly fainted from anger. “Marriage is a serious matter, how can it be treated so lightly?”

Zu’an looked at her seriously. “I met you too late before. You said I owed you a wedding, and now I have a chance to make up for it.”

“Can it be made up like this?” Xihe was anxious. “Didn’t you say I would be Dijun’s wife in the future?”

“I am Dijun now.” Zu’an smiled at her, a hint of tenderness in his eyes.

Xihe blinked, feeling confused by his words. After a long while, she came to her senses. “But you’re clearly not!”

“When everyone believes I’m real, even a lie can become real.” Zu’an said in a deep voice. He had thought a lot just now and vaguely felt that he had grasped something.

“Didn’t you say you couldn’t affect subsequent history?” Xihe asked, puzzled.

“History is created by people, and naturally, it can also be written by people.” Zu’an himself was a historian of time, so doing this kind of thing was second nature to him.

“Have you ever thought that Dijun might come back?” Xihe said irritably. Did this guy really think that impersonating the Heavenly Emperor was such an easy thing?

“The mighty Heavenly Emperor just vanished like that, and so many people can’t find him anywhere. Maybe he really won’t be coming back,” Zu’an mused.

“How could that be? He’s the most powerful Heavenly Emperor in the world. Who could possibly harm him?” Xi He, though she disliked Di Jun, didn’t quite believe such a thing could happen.

“The most powerful? Not necessarily.” Zu’an thought of how Di Jun became the successor to Zhuanxu in later generations. Clearly, he had failed in this era, which led to history being altered. Otherwise, who would dare to fabricate such a story about the supreme Di Jun?

Speaking of which, was the Di Jun she encountered in later generations the real Di Jun?

And who altered this history?

Xi He was unaware that countless thoughts were flashing through his mind: “I only helped you out of friendship this time, I didn’t intend to marry you… mmm…”

Before she could finish speaking, she was pulled into his arms and kissed heavily.

Xi He’s eyes widened, instinctively trying to push him away, but his hands seemed to be made of iron.

She felt as if she’d been electrocuted; was this what kissing felt like…?

But she quickly regained her senses, a miniature sun rising in her palm, as if ready to strike at any moment.

Yet, he seemed oblivious, continuing to kiss her.

The flames within her burned for a long time, but she ultimately didn’t attack.

She didn’t know what had possessed her, letting him do as he pleased.

After a while, he released her, looking at her with a half-smile.

Her face flushed, and she explained somewhat guiltily, “Don’t overthink it. The reason I didn’t hit you was because I was worried about attracting the attention of others in the Heavenly Palace and exposing our identities.”

Zu An gently brushed a stray strand of hair from her face: “Marry me.”

Xi He bit her slightly swollen lips. How could this guy be so domineering and shameless?

But what made her even more uneasy was that she didn’t seem to find it offensive.

“I don’t even know your name!” she blurted out, almost unconsciously.

Zuan smiled: “My name is Zuan.”

“That’s awful.” Xihe silently memorized the name, then said with some worry, “But you said that my future self clearly doesn’t know you?”

“Something must have gone wrong.” Zuan gently held her hand, “I’ve already missed too much. Now that I’ve found you, I don’t want to have any more regrets.”

Xihe’s lips curled up slightly, but she immediately said, “You only remembered me now? It feels like I’m just a substitute.”

Zu’an shook his head slightly: “Before, I was worried about affecting history, thinking that the current you was different from the one I met later. But now I’ve figured out a lot of things. Will you marry me?”

Xihe’s heart pounded. She realized this was a rebellious act, but the impulse from her very bones made it impossible for her to refuse: “Okay!”
