Chapter 930 Alaric and the Tower of the Black Sun: A Bloodbath in the Abyss!

In the largest public library within the ancient ruins of Merri, at the boundary between light

and darkness, Alaric was searching through documents. “The difficulty of enhancing the Golden Bloodline is greater than ordinary bloodline modifications. Those not born with the Golden Bloodline, even after undergoing modifications, will find it difficult to truly gain the corresponding power. However, there are some extremely dangerous Golden Bloodline modifications that require risk, a bit of luck, and decisive action.”

“Locke is right. To become a second-circle wizard, one must have the courage to break through the limits of their race a second time.”

“Bloodline is innate. Since one is going to break through the limits a second time, why care about innate abilities?”

Alaric searched for a long time, sweating profusely, but he was puzzled by one thing: the dangerous Golden Bloodline modifications he had previously encountered by chance, he couldn’t find now, for some reason.

Alaric’s eyes were filled with doubt.

At this moment, the fighting spirit he had just gained from Locke’s encouragement was once again dampened.

“No, Lord Augustine went to great lengths to encourage me. If I give up now, it would be too unfair to him for all the effort he put into me.”

Alaric found a first-class wizard apprentice in the library and instructed him, “Where is the set of books on ‘Forbidden Creature Bloodline Modification’ in this library? It’s the work of Archmage Borgshugg.”

The first-class wizard apprentice, a generalist, immediately whispered, “The work of that forbidden archmage? Lord Alaric, the White Wizarding Association banned his books a few days ago.”

“So they’re not here.”

Alaric was struck dumb.

“Banned? Why?”

“On what grounds?”

The first-class wizard apprentice bowed to Alaric, then raised his right hand and pointed to the sky.

Alaric immediately understood what had happened.

Archmage Borgshugg, as a Sun Ring Wizard, was quite controversial. Many people believed that his many outrageous researches as a Sun Ring Wizard had exceeded the limits of his abilities, but many wizards in the liminal space protected him. However, many of his dangerous experiments eventually reached the ears of the heavens.

It now appears that the ethics review committee of the Mystic Heaven has deemed this person and his research illegal, initiating a complete ban.

The first-class wizard apprentice bowed to Alaric again, then whispered, “Grand Wizard Bogsug just entered the wizard prison at the border of light and darkness a few days ago.”

“And his dangerous experiments and spellbooks that led to the tragic deaths of many wizards have all been sealed away.”

Alaric paused, as if finding hope, and said, “Sealed away? Entered the wizard prison at the border of light and darkness? Doesn’t that mean he can still conduct research there? This is the protection our White Wizarding Association is providing for him…”

The first-class wizard apprentice from the generalist school bowed again.

“Yes, sir. You know this better than I do.”

Alaric’s eyes flickered; if that were the case, then by entering the wizard prison, he might be able to obtain the relevant magical inheritance.

Moreover, Archmage Borgshug is currently in dire straits and desperately needs people to work for him, so perhaps if he could go to that wizard prison, he could…

But the next moment, the words of this first-class wizard apprentice extinguished the hope that had ignited in his heart.

“Archmage Borgshug is imprisoned in the wizard prison at the Cold Mountain Ruins, the one located atop Cold Mountain.”

The hope that had just ignited in Alaric’s eyes vanished instantly.

The Cold Mountain Ruins were dangerous because they were the main battlefield at the border between the Dark and the Light, the earliest region invaded by foreign enemies, and the gateway to the wizarding world.

Alaric grew up at the border between the Dark and the Light, so he grew up hearing that history.

In the past, foreign enemies invited the enemies of the wizarding civilization beyond the endless void to invade the border between the Dark and the Light. Two of the three great gods came, except for the Titan Kings.

Even beings from the deepest depths of the abyss were present.

As the center of that battlefield, the Cold Mountain Ruins completely twisted and altered the laws of the plane, making it unsuitable for ordinary wizards and mortals to survive. However, the battlefield left behind many useful resources, some of which existed only in the past and are no longer in production today, thus preserving the city cluster within the Cold Mountain Ruins.

Alaric said, “That…”

Suddenly, he heard a sound behind him like a cane striking the ground.

He turned and saw a human wizard he had never seen before, dressed in a white wizard’s robe, the style of which was the same as the ancient wizard robes of the past, as if an ancient person had come to the modern era.

His cane tapped the ground repeatedly, producing a series of drum-like sounds as he approached.

His beard was meticulously trimmed, his face was completely hairless, and his hair and sideburns were neatly combed.

“Alaric?”

Alaric looked at the wizard with suspicion, sensing the terrifying golden bloodline emanating from him, and the high level of that bloodline.

Alaric looked at the wizard with further confusion.

“Is there something you need, sir?”

“We haven’t met before, have we? Why can’t I sense your magical pressure…”

His expression changed slightly, indicating that the other party was either a mortal, wearing a high-level magical artifact to conceal magical pressure, or at least a third-circle wizard.

Alaric immediately bowed to him.

The etiquette at the boundary between light and

darkness was solemn; he bowed ninety degrees, head bowed. This wizard, with his neatly groomed beard and refined appearance, leaned on his cane. He sighed, then smiled and said, “I see. Old friend, it seems time has indeed changed many things.”

Alaric lowered his head, pondering the wizard’s meaning.

“Sir, have we met before?”

The wizard chuckled.

“Yes, of course I know you. Didn’t you guide me into wizarding civilization? Do you remember the name Tower of the Black Sun?”

Alaric raised his head in confusion.

The wizard continued, “The name Alaric is no ordinary one. It’s a pity you remember nothing. Indeed, so many years have passed. I never expected to meet an old friend like you here. Congratulations, but it’s a pity you have failed, Your Majesty King Alaric. Seeing you reduced to this state, I even feel pity.”

Alaric bowed again.

“My lord, I don’t understand a word you’re saying. I’ve already been tested; I can’t be any reincarnation. The Golden Dynasty tested me at birth. This is a benefit every Golden Noble enjoys.” “

I think you’ve mistaken me for someone else.”

The wizard smiled, not arguing.

“That’s true. According to the law, there are indeed two people. It’s just that I came here to find the source of the trouble, and I unexpectedly encountered you here. I need to borrow your memories.”

“Originally, I would have destroyed your memories and secretly guided you to your destruction. But considering we are old acquaintances, and you were once my benefactor, I can refrain from doing so.”

Alaric was startled. He wanted to back away, but found that the first-class wizard apprentice behind him seemed to have time stopped, or rather, time was frozen. He was slowly opening his mouth, an action that should have taken a second, but now seemed to be trapped in a deep, infinite loop, unable to complete quickly.

“You…”

Alaric was blustering but weak.

“This is the Golden Dynasty…”

The wizard’s finger touched his forehead, and the next moment, his finger lit up.

Then, the wizard closed his eyes, and immediately flicked the finger that had touched Alaric’s forehead. Instantly, a portrait of Locke Augustine appeared in mid-air.

Alaric said, “Lord Augustine?”

The wizard glanced at the portrait with suspicion.

“Hmm? Not an old friend. I thought some old friend was secretly causing trouble, but it turns out he’s just a small fry.”

The enthusiasm in his eyes receded quickly like a tide. If that was the case, he wouldn’t have needed to take action himself.

But in the next moment, the wizard’s pupils suddenly shrank.

“A second-ring level dragon bloodline? Impossible. This is impossible. What is the Black Sun Tower doing in this era, actually allowing an outsider’s dragon bloodline to evolve to the second ring level?”

“How did he mend the broken path?”

In the next moment, the wizard’s eyes were filled with killing intent.

“Unforgivable. This man must die.”

“Should we notify the Black Sun Tower headquarters? Hmm?” “

A mere third-ring wizard dares to scheme against me. Ridiculous! Do you think you have the ability?”

The wizard closed his eyes, and then a peach blossom appeared on his forehead, its petal eerily radiating a strange magical glow.

“This is…”

If Locke were here, he would recognize this spell as the [Peach Heart Spell], an original spell created by the witch Catherine, used only by her and her students.

The wizard’s face darkened.

“A third-ring wizard has managed to scheme against me. I can no longer contact my true body, nor can I send the information back. My half-body cannot return to my original body, and I cannot even return to the Black Sun Tower of this era. This spell…”

At this moment, a giant magical peach appeared in his sea of consciousness—the Dragon View Peach King.

“A third-ring wizard actually dared to scheme against me like this. Could it be that she’s close to a fourth-ring wizard?”

Now he only had one option left. The Heart Charm had suppressed half of his body in this era of the wizarding world. The demonic peach had transformed into a force, pressing down on him, making him like a bird bound by a large rock, unable to soar in the sky, forced to walk only on the ground.

Now he could only use this half-body to kill that usurping dragon brat.

However, he didn’t need to worry.

At worst, he could just kill the witch called the Red Dragon Witch.

‘This person is cunning. She doesn’t know of my existence, or at least not my exact whereabouts, yet she still schemed against me through this Alaric. Her meticulousness would have made her a powerful figure in the past. However, my Black Sun Tower regards these so-called powerful figures as mere dogs.’

‘It seems this journey will inevitably lead to Mount Golden Crown.’ “

‘Alaric might still be of some use.’

He looked at Alaric and said, ‘Alaric, do you want to break through the limitations of your bloodline? Seeing you reduced to this state, I can’t bear it. How about I tell you a good method that belongs only to you?’

Alaric immediately asked, ‘What is it?’

‘This is an incense stick. As long as you light it, you can connect with certain beings from the past, and you can use it to make some transactions. However, you need to make offerings to the Black Sun Tower. From now on, every time you perform a sacrifice, you must offer the first offering to the Black Sun Tower.’

‘You must uphold the sacrificial rites of the Black Sun Tower. You will have joined my Black Sun Tower.’

Alaric didn’t care about all that. As a wizard, profit was definitely the most important thing. He swallowed and asked, ‘Sir, if I join your Black Sun Tower, can I become a second-circle wizard?’

The wizard leaning on the cane suddenly laughed and shook his head.

‘How pathetic, Alaric.’

‘Never mind. ’ ‘

Of course you can. ’” “Just make good use of this sacrificial ritual.”

“Furthermore, saying you’ve joined the Black Sun Tower doesn’t mean you’ve joined the Black Sun Tower headquarters, it simply means you’ve entered the sphere of influence of my Black Sun Tower. These are two different concepts. In the world of my Black Sun Tower, accepting the sacrificial ritual means you are one of the people under the Black Sun Tower’s jurisdiction. From now on, you must treat my Black Sun Tower with respect.”

A look of doubt flashed in Alaric’s eyes.

But he still accepted the incense stick from the mysterious wizard who spoke words he couldn’t understand.

The next moment, Alaric found that the wizard in front of him had disappeared. He looked up in confusion, looking around, unable to determine if what he had just encountered was a dream.

Alaric looked at the incense in his hand.

It wasn’t a dream!

The first-class wizard apprentice, a generalist, bowed to Alaric, then looked strangely at the incense that had suddenly appeared in his hand, and then turned and left.

Alaric thought of something.

“By the way, that mysterious person also tried to find memories related to Locke from me. I should inform Locke.” “

Accepting the mysterious man’s favor is one thing, but betraying a friend is quite another.

The wizards of the Boundary Between Darkness and Light wouldn’t betray their friends for a little benefit.

Therefore, Alaric thought he should tell Locke about this.

He quickly opened the Boundary Between Darkness and Light’s communication system—Golden Lake Paradise—and then told Locke everything that had just happened.”

What puzzled Alaric was that Locke didn’t reply immediately.

…

In the Abyss, Locke found himself actually transported to the Abyss World by the mutated dragon that had snapped off his dragon finger.

What troubled Locke was that the connection between his main body and his two clones had been severed.

At this moment, all his consciousness was huddled within this Ancient Tree Fruit clone.

Locke pondered a solution for a long time, finally coming up with the most practical one—’logout’.

By destroying this clone, he could completely free his consciousness from the Abyss environment, thus preserving his remaining clone and main body.

However, this method would be extremely harmful to him. At this crucial juncture in his application for the Special Grant, using this method could very likely affect his chances of securing the second-ring grant project that would allow him access to the key laboratory.

Locke felt the Abyss continuously pouring its power into his clone, especially the Abyss energy from the Eye Demon’s portion.

He had a feeling that if he were willing to fall into the Abyss, it would immediately condense its power into his rank, forcibly elevating him to the status of a Star Ring Wizard.

The entire abyss was pulsating, as if inviting him to join it.

If the Golden Dragon’s magic was open source, then the entire abyss world was essentially an open source world!

Of course, this open source might only apply to specific individual wizards; for ordinary wizards, the abyss might be quite ‘aloof’.

There was just one problem: currently, the Eye Demon race in the abyss only had one second-ring member—the Supreme Eye Demon. If he joined the abyss, how would the Supreme Eye Demon cope?

Locke summoned the Demon Dragon Rose and flew into the sky, wanting to see which layer of the abyss he had been dragged to by that mutated dragon—hopefully a surface layer, making his return easier.

What he saw was a complex world filled with floating continents, each a rectangle of varying sizes but all with a uniform shape.

There were mountains, rivers, valleys, and seas on them, each continent with a unique terrain.

They were scattered like stars on a chessboard.

Where was this?

There was no sun in the sky; the sky was a dark red, the only light source in this world. So much so that everyone living in this world saw the world through a dark red filter.

It was incredibly oppressive.

Locke landed on the first floating continent he arrived at. There, he saw two demon races fighting. One race had ram horns, bat wings, a black halo above their heads, and tridents in their hands. They wore exquisite plate armor with special runes; although not magical creations, it was clear they possessed the power of civilization.

The other race had no equipment or weapons, and their appearance was bizarre and chaotic, lacking any fixed form. Even the number of their limbs varied; some had two heads, some five arms, and some resembled beasts, others humans…

only their skin was gray.

This was their only commonality.

Of course, they also shared another commonality: they were both energy lifeforms.

They were Abyssal Demons.

And their opponents were clearly not other demons of the Abyssal race!

Those demons were like an army, possessing strict discipline and unwavering obedience. Their numbers were far fewer than the Abyss Demons, yet they managed to overwhelm them with their discipline.

“Those are Hell Demons, aren’t they?”

“Is this the Endless Blood War? Then isn’t this the first layer of the Abyss?”

Locke felt something was amiss. If this was the first layer of the Abyss, why was the mutated dragon mutilating itself there, sacrificing itself to send him here, only to end up in a first layer that could be left at any time?

This shouldn’t be the first layer of the Abyss.

Locke heard the cry for help and saw an old Mammon demon with a hunched back. He only had the magic pressure of a first-class wizard apprentice, a mere 200 points. He seemed to be injured and was dragging his injured left leg as he fled.

“Help me! Someone save me! I’ve been injured by those damned Barto demons! Someone save me…”

His cries for help attracted the attention of some young abyssal demons. A young male vampire beast demon, wielding his blood whip, ran up behind the old demon. He licked his lips. “Damn old thing, useless now, still daring to make a sound, actually thinking a demon would come to his rescue.”

“Old thing, obediently, I’ll eat you!”

the vampire beast demon roared, opening his blood-red maw. His mouth split into four lobes, all filled with backward-curved sharp teeth. Then he charged at the old Mammon demon, who limped across the cold, rocky ground, his injured leg dangling as he desperately fled.

He looked pleadingly at Locke, who stood observing from the side.

Whether it was an illusion or something else, the old Mammon demon actually said to Locke, “Lord of the Eye Demon, we are still at war. Our common enemy is the evil Order Demons.”

“The bad reputation of half the demons in the Endless Void is all due to the Order Demons. We are comrades-in-arms, help me, save me, save me…”

His escape immediately attracted the pursuit of other demons, including a two-headed lizard demon.

Soon, a Scorpion King Demon Lord with a first-ring of demonic pressure joined the chase. This was a humanoid demon with gray skin on the upper body and a scorpion-like lower body. He raised his two scorpion pincers and roared, “A great battle is at hand, yet you are killing each other! Get out of my way! That Mammon demon is my food. Get out of my way, I want to eat him!”

Clearly, the pursuit had fueled the demon’s appetite.

Immediately afterward, the Scorpion King Demon Lord charged past the Lizard Demon and the Vampire Beast Demon, rushing towards the Mammon Demon who was dragging his injured leg and trying to escape.

But the next moment, the Mammon Demon suddenly turned around, his body abruptly swelling. Then, his shriveled body developed powerful pectoral muscles, and his body expanded inch by inch, revealing belt-like clothing.

He wasn’t the Mammon Demon at all.

His demonic pressure instantly surged.

He was a first-ring level Torture Demon!

He opened his blood-red maw and devoured the head of the Scorpion King Demon, whom he, the sixth brother, had outmaneuvered.

The two low-level demons who had been chasing him were instantly shocked and trembled.

They had actually been chasing a high-level demon.

The Torture Demon chuckled, “You’re all youngsters, falling for such a simple trap. Ahahaha… Thank you for helping me devour a high-level demon. You’re quite the actors; you’ll follow me from now on. Come on, let’s go somewhere else.”

A figure landed in front of them.

The Torture Demon’s face darkened. He looked at Locke with a gloomy expression and asked, “Eye Demon Lord, what do you want? Are you looking for death?”

The Torture Demon’s hand began to deform. Two fingers of his right hand pointed forward like sharp weapons, while the remaining three fingers shrank, making his hand look like an iron hook capable of hooking flesh.

“What, do you want to eat me?”

“Eye Demon Lord, I’m not afraid of you. Among all Abyss Lords of the same level, you have always been the weakest and the most talkative. You can only use your fragile words to compensate for your even more fragile bodies. Speak, you…”

The next moment, his head was gone.

The Vampire Beast Demon and the Lizard Demon were terrified.

They had witnessed Locke simply extend his hand, and the powerful Abyss Lord’s head was crushed by just two fingers.

The Torture Demon collapsed to the ground.

His body suddenly shattered into pieces. After Locke instantly destroyed the abyssal energy circulation core located in his head, the remaining abyssal energy in his body lost its self-awareness. Therefore, his limbs transformed into four relatively low-level Mammon demons.

This is because the linear evolution type of Mammon demons is the Torture Demon.

Next, his remaining body transformed into an Obiga Worm Demon, a low-level demon with the peak of a First-Class Wizard Apprentice. It resembled a giant worm, dragging its massive body forward and using its immortality to slowly grind down its enemies.

His remaining skeleton transformed into countless Tanaris Demons.

These were the lowest-ranking demons among the abyssal demons.

“Interesting. Despite being the epitome of chaos, it possesses the most powerful evolutionary abilities. Despite being such a chaotic place, it gives the demon races below you the opportunity to rebel. In this rapid ascent and mutual devouring, the hierarchy of the Endless Abyss cannot maintain its stability for long.”

Because the Endless Abyss connects to the Endless Void, many fallen souls enter the Abyss River, transforming into Abyss Worms. Even the most powerful demons cannot restrict the devouring process. As long as it cannot be restricted, it will be common for the demons below to betray those above.

Especially since there are clearly no moral constraints within the Abyss.

Locke turned to the most intelligent-looking, yet most fearful, vampire demon and asked, “Which level of the Abyss is this?”

The vampire demon trembled with fear.

“Replying to you, sir, this is the 445th level of the Abyss!”

Locke was completely dumbfounded. Wait, how could the Endless Blood War happen on the 445th level?

Legend has it that the deeper one goes in the Endless Abyss, the more powerful the plane becomes. The core of the Endless Abyss is suspected to be level 444, as the Wizarding Civilization only reached level 444 during their exploration of the Great Void. Therefore, many textbooks state that the Abyss has only 444 levels.

Back then, the Wizarding World fought its way to level 444, forcing countless beings hidden deep within the Abyss to emerge, including even those beyond the Abyss itself—

the direct manifestation of the world’s will within the Abyss.

There was also the legendary first evolved demon—the Grand Duke of Tanaris.

Tanaris demons are merely low-level demons, one level above Abyss Worms, but as the first to evolve into a Tanaris demon, the Grand Duke of Tanaris is described in many magic books as possessing incredible power, the most terrifying being in the Endless Void, the greatest enemy of civilization, and a resister of magic.

Locke never imagined that the wizarding civilization, after all the hardship and struggle to reach the 444th plane, would be exiled to the 445th plane by the mutated dragon’s magic, banished from the historical magical model.

This was a level even lower than the 444th.

This directly proved that there were indeed more planes in the Abyss.

The 444th plane was definitely not the traditional lowest level of the Abyss.

Locke suddenly realized something.

“Wait a minute. I need to immediately input the True Sight Crystal and bring the evidence back. Wouldn’t that allow me to publish an article in a second-ring, first-district journal right away, and maybe even win an award?”

Locke took out the crystal ball, which quickly cracked and exploded, turning into a pile of useless fragments that were immediately swallowed and assimilated by the earth.

Locke slapped his forehead.

“I should have bought a better quality True Sight Crystal Ball. But judging from this, it’s impossible to record this here without a True Sight Crystal worth tens of millions.”

Locke regretted his decision.

Of course, he quickly composed himself. After all, he was just a person; why would he keep such a high-level magical artifact in his Astral Ring unless there was a reason?

Especially one that was easily broken and consumable.

Locke turned to the two demons before him and asked, “Did you reach level 445 in Hell, or what? Why is the Blood War happening here?”

The vampire demon stammered, “We don’t know either. We only know that a legion of Order Demons suddenly appeared on level 447. They’ve been fighting their way up and are trying to fight their way back.”

Locke suddenly realized a terrifying problem.

His clone seemed to be stuck in this endless abyss due to a bug.

If he was on level 445, wouldn’t he have to climb up level by level like in an elevator?

Good heavens, even in the endless abyss, his demons had to fight their way up step by step, let alone him.

The only lucky thing was that before entering the abyss, he had activated the abyssal energy cycle hidden in his eyes, making them mistake him for an abyssal lord. That’s why he wasn’t subjected to the endless siege of the abyssal demons. The wizard legion that had once reached level 444 had been forced to retreat under the relentless attacks of countless abyssal demons.

According to the information he had read, this was mainly because the wizarding civilization at that time was in its golden age, and therefore extremely arrogant. They weren’t here to conquer the Abyss, but to sweep away its inhabitants.

This led to an unusual unity among all the demons…

Locke’s face was grim. If that was the case, then he would have no choice but to abandon this clone in the end.

That would require risking a huge magical backlash.

Damn that mutated dragon, was that his plan?

To teleport the dragons into this hellish place.

Locke recalled the mutated dragon’s spell again, but it wasn’t a golden spell, nor was it an open source, so he couldn’t reproduce it.

“But using archaeological magic, and all my magical knowledge, could I replicate that spell based on its logic? Even just half of its effect seems enough.”

Locke shook his head, because he didn’t actually have any good ideas.

Moreover, his current focus should be on seeing if there was any way for this clone to save them.

If it really couldn’t be saved, then how could he minimize the magical backlash suffered by his main body?

While Locke was deep in thought, the lizard demon suddenly turned and ran away.

Locke looked up at the vampire beast before him and asked curiously, “Why don’t you run away?”

The vampire beast knelt before Locke and said worshipfully, “Lord Eye Demon Lord, I want to pledge my allegiance to you.”

“I want to pledge my allegiance to someone as powerful as you!”

Locke glanced at the vampire beast.

The next moment, half of the lizard demon’s body, which had already run far away, was erased by an invisible force.

Locke said, “I like to eliminate the root of the problem.”

The vampire beast trembled with fear, because the Eye Demon before him had already killed all the demons within his sight, and now it was the only demon within his sight.

He had never heard of an Eye Demon being such a bloodthirsty demon.

The other party was practically a fire demon.

No, even fire demons are demons manifested from anger, while this Eye Demon before him, despite being so ruthless, was so calm.

This was something the vampire beast could not even comprehend.

Locke asked, “Since this is floor 445, what’s it called, and what are its dimensional characteristics?”

The two demons he just killed were killed by Peach Blossom Thorn Arrow magic.

However, because the speed was so fast when he fired it, the demons couldn’t see it with their n*ked eyes. So, to them, it seemed as if he had inexplicably crushed them with his fingers or eliminated them with his sight.

But in reality, it was just because he was currently overwhelming lower-level creatures, benefiting from his immense power, allowing him to perform some flashy but ineffective tricks.

Locke looked at the vampire demon who had said he wanted to become his subordinate.

The vampire beast demon immediately said, “Level 445 is the Evil Chessboard Plane. The land here is like a chessboard, divided into layers. You can’t leave this chessboard continent without eliminating your opponent. Only by eliminating your opponent can you win and enter the next chessboard.”

“As long as you can win all the way, you can go to the top chessboard.”

“The entrance to level 443 and level 446 is on the top level.”

“Hmm?” Locke looked at the honest vampire beast demon and asked, “What about level 444 of the Endless Abyss?”

The vampire beast demon’s eyes were full of doubt. “Does the Endless Abyss have a level 444?”

“Lord Eye Demon, I haven’t heard of it.”

Locke frowned, because in many articles he had read, it was mentioned that the core of the Endless Abyss was level 444, although level 444 wasn’t the lowest.

But it might be the most important level of the Endless Abyss.

That’s why the battle that once took place, in which countless demons fought to the death to protect level 444, was so powerful.

To his surprise, the vampire beast told him that the 444th level didn’t exist at all.

Was it hidden?

Locke looked up at the chessboard-like continents higher up. Each level of the Endless Abyss had different characteristics, unlike the Dark World, which devoured the world and became part of it.

The Endless Abyss absorbed different levels and incorporated them into its own world.

“Those floating continents are actually a chessboard.”

Locke was a bit lost. So this 445th level was a smaller version of the Endless Abyss. Only by constantly winning on the chessboard could one enter a higher level.

To leave, he needed to keep winning.

He was at a loss.

What should he do?

Wasn’t this a dead end in this world?

Was self-destruction the only option?

At this moment, two enormous demonic figures appeared on the outer edge of the chessboard continent. These two figures seemed to be chess players, divided into two factions, both being second-ring level demons.

One was an Abyss Demon, a high-level torture demon, and the other was a Hell Demon, resembling all low-level Hell Demons with ram horns, bat wings, and wearing more advanced armor. He possessed far greater soul power, which manifested as flames that seemed to distort everything.

These two high-level demons, like chess players, reached out and moved the pieces on the chessboard continent.

This seemed to be a turn-based system.

Locke noticed that when placing the pieces, they basically followed a take-one-turn-one-turn pattern.

That is, one placed an army, and the other placed an army.

However, the Abyss Demon’s army was generally five to six times the size of the Hell Demon’s army; they simply charged forward in a chaotic mass.

There was no strategy whatsoever.

Locke held up a Star Ring Demon Plant—the Sky-Supporting Jujube!

The towering jujube, the size of a matchstick, appeared in his palm, spinning rapidly. With each spin, it grew thicker and longer,

surrounded by a halo of seven emerald green magical models.

This was his modified version of [A Lone Tree Cannot Support the Whole Tree], barely effective on this Star Ring Demon Plant.

Meanwhile, the High-Level Torture Demon stretched out his hand, placing it on a large plain.

“I’ll place nine legions here,”

the opposing Order Demon said, his eyes flickering as he pondered the significance of placing a legion there.

In fact, on the Evil Chessboard, even he had to abide by the plane’s laws, making it a turn-based system.

Moreover, both sides had a commander’s flag; if the flag was captured, the opponent lost and would fall to the next floating continent.

‘My commander’s flag is in the mountains behind this plain. Placing most of my legions here—is he trying to decide the outcome in one fell swoop?’

‘I can’t let the opponent control my pace.’

‘But I can’t be careless either.’

The Order Demon placed his massive hand on the high mountain of the plain. “I’m deploying three legions here for defense; that’s a third of my legions.” Just

as the two high-ranking demons were contemplating their strategy, the next moment, an enormous, sky-piercing jujube-like object stretched outwards, then pierced the sky, igniting flames, before falling and annihilating all twelve demon legions with a single blow.

The entire continent was shattered, severed in two.

At this moment, the two high-ranking demons, acting as the chess players, were completely stunned.

Locke stood on the shattered continent, facing the vampire demon loyal to him, and said, “You mean that every game in the Evil Chessboard plane must have a winner to end the game? What if they all lose at the same time? Hmm… the most likely scenario is a rematch.”

“But what if everyone dies, making a rematch impossible?”

“No, the plane’s rules can still be explained that way; at most, it’ll just permanently trap us. So the best way is to make them all winners, making the ‘sole winner’ rule in this plane incomprehensible!”

Locke and the vampire demon exchanged ideas for a long time, and after some exploration, he discovered that no matter which way he went, he couldn’t leave this abyssal plane.

He felt as if he were stuck here by that mutated dragon.

Therefore, he decided to take drastic measures, disrupting the rules of this level of the Evil Chessboard, throwing the entire plane’s rules into chaos, and seeing what would happen—perhaps a new turning point would emerge.
