Chapter 911 Historical Interlayers and the War of Historical Materials

“Thank you and Lady Helen.”

Locke accepted the clone potion and a bottle of unknown potion from the other party. After hesitating for a moment, Locke still took it as the Sea Queen instructed.

Instantly, chaotic spirits flew everywhere on his body, like chaotic butterflies rushing out and fluttering in all directions. Many spirits transformed into golden light and rushed out of his body, while others transformed into golden light and returned to Locke’s body.

Locke opened his eyes. His pupils, which had almost turned golden due to the excessively active golden magic, had now returned to normal.

Locke exhaled a breath of stale air.

“Thank you for the potion, Lady Helen. May I ask what kind of potion this is? How much should I pay?”

The second-ring family witch servant chuckled.

“What are you talking about, Augustine the Potion Master? This is just a name potion.”

Locke was stunned.

A simple name potion actually had this effect.

Just drinking one bottle completely restored his somewhat out-of-control golden magic, while also preserving his enhanced golden magic talent.

Incredible.

The Sea Queen’s family maid covered her mouth and chuckled, “Amazing, isn’t it? So I suggest you, if the Sea Queen doesn’t charge you, then don’t bring up the matter of fees. Because the fee is likely to be beyond your means.”

“After all, some things can be charged for, or they can be free,”

Locke understood her meaning.

Because for the Sea Queen, this might just be something she casually concocted, like when he sometimes gave his students some perks, such as the high-grade Bloodthirsty Dragon Sunflower Potion for Williams and Gregor.

But if he were to ask about the market price, it would likely be a price he couldn’t afford.

This could be considered a perk for working for or studying under a high-ring wizard.

The Sea Queen’s family maid greeted Locke, “Good luck. I rarely see my master so attentive to a student. Perhaps, you have the opportunity to become the Throne’s true student.”

She turned and left.

After she left, Locke began researching. Both his Ancient Tree Fruit clone and his original body were currently studying various materials, refining the draft of the Special Funding Project.

After all, this draft needed to be completed within the next two months.

Time was running out.

Meanwhile, his Potion clone had traveled to the Land of Dragonfall to finalize the subsequent contract with the Windbringer’s Sanctuary.

Three days later, Locke was searching the library for areas where the Black and White Codex might exist.

Although the Russell Throne had warned him against entering the Cold Mountain Ruins before reaching the Star Ring, he needed the special celestial data of the Boundary between Light and Darkness to complete the Golden Spell.

He needed to use the Parallel History Spell to collect the data.

The astronomical data required by the Golden Spell was relative to his own timeline and the time he had experienced.

For non-archaeological wizards, this required time was rigidly defined, essentially forcing them to endure the sunrise and sunset in reality.

But if he could create a parallel history using the Parallel History Spell…

then things might be different.

Locke closed his book. “Since we can’t go to the Cold Mountain Ruins, let’s see if there are other areas where the Black and White Codex might exist at the boundary between light and darkness. If so, I’ll go to that area and use the Parallel History Charm.”

Locke’s main body and his clone stood facing each other under the same bookshelf in the library, each holding a spellbook and deep in thought.

“A way to obtain enough solar trajectory data without using the Parallel History Charm… I haven’t thought of it yet, and there’s no need to think about it too much. Because if anyone could think of it, someone from the Russell Throne or his previous students would definitely have thought of it.” “

The Parallel History Charm is a fourth-circle spell, so as long as I can successfully cast it, its byproducts will be enough to support me in collecting enough astronomical data to perfect the Gold Charm. This is not surprising at all.”

Locke flipped through the information, his expression becoming strange, because he had read in a historical biography that a terrible incident had occurred in the Ancient Ruins City five hundred years ago. That

is, an incident in which several archaeological wizards fought each other.

This information was found in a travelogue, but the direct information was insufficient, because he couldn’t find any other information.

According to the travelogue, five hundred years ago, a second-circle archaeological wizard who lived in seclusion in the ancient ruins was hunted down by several archaeological wizards, leading to dire consequences.

However, when he consulted the history of the ancient ruins, he couldn’t find such a historical account.

Locke pondered, “Using a travelogue to record stories is a typical method of historical documentation for archaeological wizards. It was probably to prevent the recorded history from being deliberately erased, or perhaps there was a social environment at the time that forbade the recording of this history.”

“Therefore, the stories recorded in this travelogue may not be false. Archaeological wizards inherently possess a great deal of magic related to history. My ancestor even possessed magic that could strip me of the causal link with history, preventing me from resonating with a certain period of history and influencing my thoughts and judgments.”

Locke’s historical aura began to show its power.

Because of this historical aura, Locke possessed an unusual intuition about history.

This intuition allowed him to find his specific targets among countless books.

And this intuition told him that the seemingly impossible and absurd stories recorded in this travelogue might actually be true.

Locke pondered, his historical aura activating. A sudden flash of inspiration connected the story in the travelogue with the historical wars mentioned by the wizard Warwick.

Could the horrific events that occurred in the Old Ruins five hundred years ago be part of these historical wars?

If so…

Locke’s eyes gleamed.

If so, the destroyed Black and White Grimoires might exist within the historical wars.

He couldn’t use the Parallel History Charm to bring out objects already existing in reality, nor could he bring out objects with powerful energy reactions or those that were too weak. But the destroyed Black and White Grimoires in reality were precisely the items that could be brought out of parallel histories.

‘There were only a hundred Black and White Grimoires in total, and almost half of them are already destroyed. The patriarch wasn’t panicked; the fear of the lineage being severed must be for this reason,’

Locke thought. ‘For high-ring archaeological wizards, even if all the Black and White Grimoires are destroyed, as long as they want their lineage to continue, they can use the Parallel History Charm to retrieve the Black and White Grimoires destroyed in this world at this time from parallel histories.’

Locke looked at the book. “But the information in the travelogue alone isn’t enough. I need more information.”

“Activating the parallel history spell requires even more information. The author is… um? Anonymous?”

Locke paused, taken aback.

The library at Mount Golden Crown was extremely sensitive to the author’s name and the institution they belonged to in order to improve the quality of their spellbooks.

Was this thing forcibly inserted?

Locke’s true form found the wizard Ackerman and handed him the travelogue.

“Ackerman, look at this book. Do you know the author?”

The Ackerman wizard paused, then took the book and looked down at it.

“I don’t recognize it. That shouldn’t be the case. Which bookshelf did you get it from?”

Locke gave the shelf number.

The Ackerman troll wizard scratched his head. “I just tidied that shelf last month. Impossible, there’s no way that shelf could have this book. I tidy that shelf about once every three years, so this travelogue couldn’t have come from that shelf.”

“Besides, there’s nothing on it, not even an author’s signature.”

The Ackerman troll wizard said, “Locke, this thing couldn’t possibly be in our Golden Crown Mountain library.”

“Our Golden Crown Mountain library doesn’t just put any book in there.”

Locke said helplessly, “But I did take it from that shelf.”

The Ackerman troll wizard thought of something. He picked up the travelogue, silently chanted a spell, his lips constantly touching, and then the travelogue in his hand began to turn on its own.

A spell model appeared on the travelogue.

The Ackerman troll wizard’s face darkened. “I knew it.”

“I just used two spell models from our General Knowledge school. One was to force a spell to manifest, and the other was to detect the name and information of this spell model.”

“It’s a second-circle archaeological spell called [Historical Layer]. An archaeological wizard infiltrated our Golden Crown Mountain library and placed it there.”

“The scariest thing is that we don’t know when it happened. The other party could be a Moon Ring wizard or a Sun Ring wizard.”

“Historical Layer is a second-circle spell model of Moon Ring or higher.”

“This spell can create a special layer that only archaeological wizards with sufficient historical awareness can discover and see upon approaching it. Ordinary wizards, without historical awareness, cannot discover it even if they pass by the area where it is stored. This is a spell model that archaeological wizards often use to store items.”

The Ackerman troll wizard handed the travelogue to Locke and said, “Since you found it in the library, it’s yours. What you do with it is up to you. I’ve recorded its information with a real crystal, and I will report it to the Academic Committee.”

Locke took the travelogue.

“Is there any way to find out the author of this travelogue?”

The Ackerman troll wizard paused for a moment, then took out a bottle of powder from his astral ring. He sprinkled the powder on the cover of the travelogue, blew on it gently, and then inhaled it forcefully through his nose.

The Ackerman troll wizard muttered incantations.

Locke stood quietly to the side.

After a while, the Ackerman troll wizard opened his eyes, and Locke asked, “Ackerman?”

The Ackerman troll wizard shook his head slightly at Locke.

“I just tried the generalist school’s spell model—[Dominic’s Nose]. If I’ve seen this person, I should be able to remember him by his scent. If I’ve touched objects related to him, I should also be able to think of him by his scent, or have images of objects or books written by him appear in my mind that correspond to his spiritual aura.”

“But I found nothing.”

The Ackerman troll wizard was somewhat frustrated.

“I’ve read countless books in my life. If this archaeological wizard has written any magic books, I should most likely have read them. Am I just ignorant, or does this archaeological wizard not write books himself?”

Wizard Ackerman was somewhat frustrated. As a generalist wizard, his greatest fear was being ignorant in some area.

This was a huge blow to him.

Locke comforted him, “Archaeological wizards are always good at hiding their tracks. Perhaps he used some kind of magical barrier to prevent you from probing him on a spiritual level.”

Wizard Ackerman’s eyes also became serious at this moment. He had been nonchalant at first, but now he was very serious.

He couldn’t even be sure if it was during his time as the librarian here that the archaeological wizard had placed one of his travelogues on that bookshelf.

“Locke, did you only recently improve your historical acumen?”

Locke nodded. There was no doubt about that. Besides, his top-tier funded project would likely require data on the sun’s trajectory over the past century at the boundary between darkness and light.

To obtain this, one would likely need to start with this travelogue, since it was the most likely magical book related to the Black and White Codex that Locke had searched for for three days in the library.

Locke said, “I recently improved my Historical Abilities.”

The Ackerman troll wizard pondered, “If your Historical Abilities existed in the past, you should have discovered it long ago. In that case, this book might have been in this library for a long time.”

“But after all, Locke, you’re an archaeological wizard. You archaeological wizards excel at finding clues and uncovering secrets. I’m just a living dictionary, while you’re the tracking expert.”

Locke looked utterly bewildered.

Me?

The Ackerman troll wizard looked at Locke with an air of entitlement and said, “Yes, it’s you. I won’t report this for now. I’ll report it after you figure things out, Locke.”

The wizard explained, “Reporting it now only gives the higher-ups a reason to deduct my pay, make them distrust me, or even fire me. It seems to offer no other benefit. I can’t even be sure if it existed during another librarian’s term.”

The Ackerman troll wizard looked helpless.

“For a generalist, the Historical Interstitial Charm is far beyond my scope. I don’t have historical acumen; where am I supposed to sense the historical interstitial and find this book? Locke, I finally found this job in the wizarding world. You’re my friend; you can’t just watch me lose my job…”

Locke was rather speechless.

He hadn’t expected that searching for information in the library would lead to such a huge problem.

The troll wizard Ackerman, intending to bribe Locke, whispered, “If you help me, I can help you too. Recently, quite a few people have come to ask me about information on the magical plant crystallization technology. So I currently have a lot of cutting-edge information on hand. If you need it, I can get you up to speed with the latest developments in this technology anytime.”

Locke shook his head slightly. It wasn’t that he didn’t think highly of the technology; if he didn’t, he wouldn’t have recommended his student Williams to reap its benefits.

It was just that he already had his own path to follow, with research on ancestral evolution and the Summer Prosperity.

He didn’t have any other energy to waste.

As for the so-called opportunity to launch a district or apply for projects, he didn’t care.

Because he had his own path to follow.

I won’t easily change my mind.

Constantly following in others’ footsteps would be too passive, like the brandy wizard who’s changed his research direction so many times this year.

I have no intention of being consumed by others’ negativity.
