Wizard: Starting With Synthesized Gems - Chapter 914
Chapter 909 The Second Lesson of the Sea Queen
At the boundary between light and darkness, in the old ruins city, inside a stone building shaped like an octopus, a young alchemist stepped outside. He looked up in surprise to see a golden magical aura flying overhead.
“Ah? It’s a message from Mr. Exupéry’s [Memorandum]. Could something have happened at the Corridor of the Past in the Merry Ruins?”
The young alchemist took out a silencing pen-like object from his astral ring. He held it up, and the golden magical aura floating in the air was instantly absorbed.
The excessively young alchemist grinned as he looked at the silencing pen.
“Mr. Exupéry’s [Memorandum] is really useful.”
“It actually works. He only created it a month ago; I thought it was just a whim.”
“This is… a battle log.”
After examining its contents, the young alchemist’s expression changed slightly.
“This is…”
“Throne Russell, and a young wizard I haven’t seen before.”
“The Golden Construct of the Eye Demon was actually defeated in such a way. This must be shown to the teachers in the genius class…”
…
Border of Light and Darkness, the ancient ruins of Merry, outside the Corridor of the Past.
Locke and Throne Russell walked out of this Corridor of the Past, and suddenly the corridor behind them, which had been constantly flowing with the aura of golden magic, vanished.
The corridor simply disappeared on the spot.
Locke was surprised when he turned around, but he quickly realized that the corridor in the Border of Light and Darkness was likely a wizarding secret realm.
In other words, it was an important wizarding resource point.
If Throne Russell hadn’t taken him in, he would never have been able to enter.
Locke glanced at Throne Russell. The person in front of him was definitely not easy to get along with. He seemed to be asking him if he wanted to join the Golden Spells project, but in reality, he had chosen him. In order to get him to agree willingly, he even used his authority to take him into a wizarding secret realm in the Border of Light and Darkness that was at least a second-ring level.
Locke somewhat understood why this student of the Throne had suddenly betrayed him.
After figuring this out, Locke wasn’t particularly afraid. After all, he had the Red Dragon Throne behind him, and he was the Red Dragon Throne’s student. With his teacher as his backer, his interactions with other Thrones were much safer.
After Locke and Throne Russell left the Corridor of the Past, on their way back to the location of the Golden Grail Arena, they unexpectedly encountered the wizard Leon Newman from Ancient Vine Village, and an acquaintance of theirs… the witch Rose.
Wizard Leon Newman and Witch Rose seemed to have had some kind of argument; both were flushed, so when Locke and Throne Russell approached them, neither of them reacted for a moment.
Wizard Leon Newman said to Witch Rose, “Enough. I don’t need you to belittle me. If you think you can belittle me and make me work for you with your attacks, you’re delusional.”
Witch Rose narrowed her beautiful eyes, suppressing her anger.
“I’m objectively evaluating your abilities and analyzing your future. With your abilities, you’re not on the same level as Locke or me,”
Wizard Leon Newman sneered. “You say that with my aptitude, I could never defeat Locke Augustine on my own? Nor could I defeat you? Just because you beat me in the Rainbow Cup, and Augustine beat me in the Golden Cup, you think my potential can’t compare to either of you…” Witch Rose was
somewhat bewildered.
“Isn’t that true?”
“That’s objective reality…”
Wizard Leon Newman immediately said, “The wizards of Ancient Vine Village are never afraid of challenges! So what if I lost two matches? You just wait, Witch Rose. I will continue to challenge you. Boasting is certainly the right of the victor, but if you lose next time, I’ll laugh at you the same way.” Witch Rose
was dumbfounded.
“I…you…I didn’t mean to insult you, you…”
Wizard Leon Newman turned to leave, but in that instant he saw the expressionless Russell Throne. He paused, then immediately bowed to the Russell Throne, glaring at Locke as he stood up.
Locke was speechless.
What did this have to do with him?
Locke looked at Witch Rose, who, surprisingly, looked at the Russell Throne and bowed to him, then crossed her arms and watched Wizard Leon Newman storm off.
Once Leon Newman was completely out of sight, Locke said to Witch Rose, “I didn’t expect to run into you here. Wizard Leon Newman is straightforward and not complicated. Of course he’d be angry if you spoke to him like that.”
“However, he doesn’t have any bad intentions. But after being provoked like that, he might target you and me in the future,”
Witch Rose sneered.
“It doesn’t matter. He’ll just be second or third forever anyway. With his talent, even if I wait ten years and stay in the same place, he still won’t catch up to me.”
Rose the Witch couldn’t contain her anger. “I hate arrogant guys the most.”
She looked at Locke and said, “By the way, my former partner, now the new administrator of Silver Peach Garden, it seems we’ll have to fight again along the Tianjiang River.”
Rose the Witch said, “I advise you to go to the Tianjiang River as soon as possible. Don’t let negligence there cause you to lose the Red Dragon Throne’s favor.”
Rose the Witch seemed to have thought of something, a malicious smile playing on her lips. “Your biggest guarantee of maintaining your position with the Red Dragon Throne is about to disappear.”
Locke looked at her suspiciously. “Rose, right now, whether it’s the Wizard Shoe Shop Alliance or the Magic Plant Shop Alliance, you seem to be at a disadvantage. You’d better not be so optimistic.”
“After all, I don’t like arrogant guys either.”
A red light flashed in Rose the Witch’s eyes.
“You…”
She glanced at the Russell Throne, then said, “There’s no former ally I can’t handle. Locke, good luck.”
She turned and left. Not only had she failed to sign Leon Newman, but she’d also been verbally abused by that guy, leaving Rose extremely annoyed.
She hadn’t expected that fool Leon Newman to dare insult her so directly.
Locke watched her retreating figure, frowning. He wondered what the Rose Throne’s academic lineage was planning, and why Rose had said such things.
Oh well.
Locke pondered, Rose was a bit eccentric; it was best not to believe everything she said. After all, it was the enemy’s word.
Throne Russell smiled at Locke, teasingly saying, “It seems that beautiful witch is bothering you. Youth is wonderful; I was just as active as you when I was young.”
Locke was genuinely bewildered, somewhat startled: “Your Majesty, you’ve misunderstood my relationship with her.”
Throne Russell smiled, “I was just as popular as you when I was young. But things have changed drastically since I became High Justice.”
Throne Russell became serious.
“However, that witch seems to be on the verge of becoming a Star Ring Wizard. I saw the flames from the second forging.”
“Those flames only appear when a Great Magic is forged a second time.”
Locke’s expression also turned serious.
Rose the witch was undoubtedly ahead of him in terms of magical advancement, which certainly put some pressure on him.
However, obtaining the information on the Golden Spell at the boundary between light and darkness was an unexpected gain.
With this information, he might be able to continue perfecting the two Great Magics.
Locke inquired of Throne Russell, “Your Majesty, are there any traces of archaeological wizards in the border region between the Dark and the Bright?”
Throne Russell replied, “Of course. The border region between the Dark and the Bright possesses the most historical resources among the major wizarding lands of the Eastern Region.”
“This is a holy land for archaeological wizards. Many unauthorized archaeological wizards use this method to smuggle themselves in, and the witcher forces here also have a special duty to hunt them down.”
Locke did not hide his thoughts.
“So, does the Black and White Codex exist at the boundary between the Dark and the Light?”
The Russell Throne looked at him and said, “No. Even if a Black and White Codex fell into our hands, it would be traded away. But that’s extremely rare. Every Black and White Codex is a treasure within the dark wizarding world, a rare gem, truly priceless.”
“You’re also an archaeology wizard, aren’t you? The Black and White Codex is related to something called Historical Aura. Aura is man-made, and I don’t know the specifics. Wizards who haven’t come into contact with the Black and White Codex don’t have the means to create or store Historical Aura. Therefore, ordinary wizards can only progress to the first level of archaeology wizardry.” “
And a first-level archaeology spell model is insufficient to explore the secrets of the boundary between the Dark and the Light.”
Locke nodded slightly; it was indeed true.
If it weren’t for the fake tomb of the archaeological patriarch he discovered in the Three Cave Worlds, he truly hadn’t mastered Historical Aura.
Throne Russell pondered for a moment, then suddenly spoke, “But if you’re interested, you can go and take a look at the Cold Mountain Ruins. I’ve heard that fifty years ago, a Sun Ring-level archaeology wizard organized a team to go to the Cold Mountain Ruins to steal the tomb of a wizard king from the Age of Stars. The entire team, and even the entire academy, perished in those ruins.”
“However, if you’re going, I hope you’ll complete your special grant before you go.”
Locke asked, “Why?”
Throne Russell said, “I don’t want you to die there before you finish the Golden Spell project I gave you.”
“Of the five ruins in the Boundary Between Darkness and Light, only three ruin city clusters are actually normal living areas comparable to other wizarding lands. Two of these city clusters, including the Cold Mountain Ruins, are extremely dangerous areas. Ordinary second-ring wizards face a high risk of death there; only wizards with Star Rings or higher can go safely.”
Locke hadn’t expected this.
“If that’s the case, why is that area still a cluster of cities?”
Throne Russell asked. “One reason is the abundance of resources there. Another is that although these two places are out of control, compared to the other barren wastelands of the Horizon of Darkness and Light, they still have some low-level wizard apprentices and mortals under the protection of high-ring wizards who can survive there.”
“It’s just that the Cold Mountain Ruins are more like a doomsday scenario. There’s no need for them to go there; even our Demon Hunter forces in the Horizon of Darkness and Light rarely set foot there. The Cold Mountain Ruins are also a place where archaeological wizards often enter on their own.”
“I wonder how many archaeological wizards have died there.”
Throne Russell smiled slightly. “It seems you’re not part of your archaeological wizard circle. Otherwise, you should have heard of the Cold Mountain Ruins long ago.”
“That’s a sacred place that every archaeological wizard wants to conquer, and also a graveyard for you archaeological wizards. I know of quite a few archaeological wizards who died there. And in the example I just told you, fifty years ago, they did indeed seem to have brought the Black and White Codex into the Cold Mountain Ruins.”
“But that Black and White Codex has disappeared.”
“It might have been destroyed by the dangerous forces within the Cold Mountain Ruins, or it might have already been obtained by someone else.”
Locke bowed to the Russell Throne.
“Thank you for your guidance, Your Highness.”
After bowing to him, Locke exchanged a few more pleasantries and then took his leave. After all, the Golden Grail War was over, and he needed to return to the Cloud Marsh Wetlands. He also needed to send an avatar to the Land of Dragonfall to complete the final agreement with the Windbringer Holy Land.
After Locke left, he frowned.
“Did the Russell Throne realize that I wanted to use the power of archaeology to obtain the Sun’s trajectory? But he shouldn’t know that I have a Parallel History Charm.”
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have needed to tell him about the Cold Mountain Ruins.
Since the Cold Mountain Ruins are so dangerous, and he needs to complete the Golden Curse himself to fully revive Golden Wheat.
Of course, it’s also possible that he only has a vague suspicion.
In any case, this person is much more complex than he appears, and it’s best to keep a certain distance from him.
After Locke left, a golden three-headed dog appeared behind Russell’s throne.
The Golden Cerberus asked the Russell Throne, “That young wizard was indeed interesting. But is this a good idea? After the path of the prodigy program was decided upon above, and the future direction of alchemy was set, you brought someone outside the prodigy program into the Third Ring Secret Realm, the Corridor of the Past. That’s the most core resource at the boundary between light and darkness.”
“It’s also the safest secret realm, one of the secrets to our enduring strength.”
“You actually brought in some random outsider.”
The Russell Throne said, “His magic level is low. Even if he enters the Corridor of the Past, he won’t be able to see its true form. The Corridor of the Past can unlock the full potential of a wizard’s golden bloodline. I brought him in to observe his potential in golden magic.”
“As for what you mean by what the higher-ups mean… they don’t mean anything. They’ll take any opportunity. During the time when he decided on his development path above, he suddenly wrote to me asking about the topic of ancestral golden foxtail grass and blue foxtail grass. This makes me think it’s not just a coincidence.”
The Golden Cerberus let out a deep laugh.
“So that’s why you interfered with someone else’s top-tier funded research topic?”
Throne Russell retorted.
“Interfered? He was the one who initiated the connection. Besides, I don’t believe I could distort Augustine’s will with such methods alone. In the Corridor of the Past, he was the one who wanted to join my cause.”
“However, this is just a minor incident. I’ve already lost the power struggle in the council at the boundary between light and darkness. Occasionally making such minor incidents won’t threaten anyone,”
the Golden Cerberus said. “Do as you please. As the guardian beast of the boundary between light and darkness, I will always remain neutral.”
…
Locke found Barrett and returned to the wizard’s inn with him.
He and Barrett first took a good bath in the bathhouse behind the inn to relax.
Locke rubbed his temples.
Spending the day with Throne Russell was truly stressful.
He needed to constantly resist Throne Russell’s influence, preventing his overly assertive thinking from affecting him in return.
Barrett looked at Locke with some concern. He remained in the bathtub and asked, “Group leader, why do you seem so restless since you came back tonight? Did something happen?”
Locke replied, “Nothing much. I’m just a little confused; some things haven’t been sorted out.”
“The different thrones seem to have completely different ways of handling things and personalities. Today I met with Throne Russell, and he’s completely different from the Red Dragon Throne and the Sea Queen Throne…”
The pressure of being around Throne Russell was indeed immense.
He seemed gentle in speech, but his thoughts were incredibly intrusive, subtly influencing those around him.
If you disagreed with him, the pressure would only increase.
No wonder his former student couldn’t stand him.
Of course, as an outsider, he didn’t know the details of what had happened, so he couldn’t comment.
Barrett was extremely pleased to learn that Locke had spent almost the entire afternoon talking with Throne Russell.
“Team leader, I’ve been living in the border region between the Dark and Bright these past few days, and I’ve often heard the people there praising Grand Justice Russell. You were able to spend an afternoon alone with that Grand Justice; that’s truly… amazing.”
“The wizards and mortals of the border region must be incredibly envious of you.”
Locke smiled and said, “No, you wouldn’t think that way if you actually met him.”
Barrett looked puzzled.
Locke began to think.
He had also consulted some information about the Cold Mountain Ruins through the Water Gourd System. According to the information and the meaning of the Russell Throne, it was indeed inconvenient for him to go there before becoming a Star Ring Wizard.
He could go there after becoming a Star Ring Wizard.
For now, he could focus his attention on the Special Funding Project.
At the same time, Locke was forced to recall the battle with the golden beholder construct in the Corridor of the Past, these memories replaying in his mind again and again.
With each repetition of these memories, the Golden Gaze Charm was so deeply etched into his mind.
“Ever since entering and exiting the Corridor of the Past, I seem to have become more sensitive to golden magic.”
Locke looked up at the golden sun in the sky. Above the open-air bath of the wizard’s tavern, the sun once again offered a fleeting glimpse of the ancient city cluster that seemed to come from another world.
This is bad.
Locke closed his eyes.
These illusions had even begun to overwhelm him, affecting his judgment, occupying his thoughts, and forcibly seizing his attention.
He’d better concoct some potions himself to suppress this trend when he got back.
He had seen too many illusions in this place where light and shadow met; if this continued, he might not be able to distinguish between reality and illusion.
He wondered if this was a side effect of entering that Corridor of the Past.
Locke, with his eyes closed, said to Barrett, “Barrett, we’ll take the wizard airship back tomorrow.”
Barrett was a little puzzled as to why Locke was in such a hurry to leave, but he didn’t object. “Okay.”
…
Locke’s Ancient Tree Fruit clone arrived at the Root-Crowned Court’s academy in the Cloud Marsh Wetlands, and went to the Sea Queen’s office. He handed her his second clone potion creation.
The Sea Queen didn’t take the clone potion, but looked at Locke, frowning, and said, “I know you’ll put your heart and soul into refining the clone potion, but there’s no need to work so hard.”
Locke was taken aback.
“Lady Helen…”
According to the Sea Queen’s request, he and she weren’t master and disciple; they were currently only in a supportive relationship formed through the Feathered Serpent Pavilion.
Therefore, he couldn’t call her teacher.
The Sea Queen said, “You’re covered in spirit essence, it’s like you just crawled out of a pool of spirit essence.”
“Indeed, some potion makers mistakenly believe that immersing themselves in a pool of spirit essence can enhance their potion-making talent.”
“But… that view is too extreme. It’s more likely your soul was devoured by those spirit essences. Let me see your creation after all this hard work.”
The Sea Queen took the bottle of clone potion from Locke. “Hmm? Surprisingly good, quite unexpected. I thought that with all this effort, the potion you made would be mediocre.” The
Sea Queen smelled the potion with satisfaction, then examined the spirit essence inside.
“Excellent, this potion you’ve concocted is very well done. This shouldn’t be your first time creating a clone potion, otherwise many details wouldn’t be so perfect.”
“You have indeed modified the Spirit Macro of the Two-Singing Cicada according to my requirements. Now, let’s move on to the next step.”
Locke bowed, then said, “Lady Helen, thank you for teaching me the Spirit Macro combination techniques. Lady Helen, will you be teaching a new potion in the second lesson?”
Throne Helen said, “No. Still the clone potion.”
“The clone potion is a classic potion, from which many variations can be created. The Archangel potion is the most difficult of the ordinary second-level potions. With your current foundation, I think it would normally take fifteen to twenty years to learn the Archangel potion.” “
You completely underestimate the difficulty of the fifth round of the Feathered Serpent Pavilion’s Heavenly Ladder. However, as long as you follow me and learn all the variations of the clone potion, then it will become possible for you to learn the Archangel potion within ten years.”
“You’re lucky to have met me. Otherwise, no matter how talented you are, if you were to learn on your own and go astray, you would have wasted decades of your life. And if you had encountered a muddle-headed potion master, you would truly be ruined.”
Throne Helen notified the wizards in the rapid advancement class through the Water Gourd System that they would be having a second lesson, and it would be on the potion of doppelgangers, albeit an advanced variation.
Immediately, a chorus of groans erupted in the group chat.
Many wizards told Throne Helen that they hadn’t even learned how to concoct a regular potion of doppelgangers, so how could they possibly attend a second lesson?
But Throne Helen, upon seeing this, seemed quite pleased and began to hum softly.
Throne Helen laughed, “These wizards without talent, I don’t know why, insist on taking my class.”
Locke even had a feeling that Throne Helen was doing it on purpose.
