Chapter 824 The Secret of the Pale Giant and the Golden Wheat Ears Three Thousand Years Ago

Two days had passed since Locke placed the mature Green Foxtail Grass into the diluted Yellow Mushroom Essence for the fifth time.

When Locke carefully placed the magical plant in the magic field, it instantly began absorbing light, plunging the entire tenth floor into darkness.

Many wizards on the tenth floor looked in Locke’s direction.

Just moments before, the Green Foxtail Grass that Locke had mutated with the Yellow Mushroom Essence had stolen the light from the area.

Locke’s pupils constricted sharply, for as the Green Foxtail Grass absorbed the light emitted by the magic lamps of the entire tenth underground floor, it turned entirely golden.

“This could be the key plant factor of Golden Wheat,”

Locke said. “The Green Foxtail Grass likely still retains a crucial factor from Golden Wheat. Therefore, when the Yellow-Clad Mushroom Extract reverted to its ancestral form, at that moment, this magical plant, which I had mutated halfway, stole all the light here.”

Locke raised his right hand, quite surprised to discover a problem.

“Will the radiance of my magical power also be stolen?”

He looked around and saw that all the wizards on the tenth underground level showed expressions of surprise.

Because the magical radiance that had always enveloped them was now being stolen by this ‘Green Foxtail Grass’.

At this moment, some ancient grandeur from the boundary between light and darkness seemed to be revived.

But the next moment, the gold of the ‘Green Foxtail Grass’ suddenly turned blue, and the ‘Green Foxtail Grass’ seemed to lose control in an instant, like an infinitely elongated blue dog’s tail, and then lashed out fiercely in Locke’s direction.

*Bang!*

Locke hadn’t expected such a sudden turn of events. His Life Force Field’s Permanent Defense Force Shell clashed violently with the green foxtail grass whip, creating a fierce magical spark.

Because this magical plant had been strengthened to near the second ring, reaching the limit of the first ring, its current loss of control and sudden attack were like a wizard in a period of spiritual decline attacking their own spell model, only with a lower damage conversion efficiency.

The moment the green foxtail grass whip struck him, all the tiny, needle-like conical inflorescences—the part resembling a dog’s tail—

were covered in bristles, which had almost completely turned blue, and attacked Locke.

*Clang!*

Some bristles, comparable in hardness to Chrono Crystal, shot directly towards his pupils.

*Snap!*

The Permanent Defense Force Field Shell clashed with these bristles, resulting in the bristles breaking, while the Permanent Defense Force Field Shell only rippled before returning to calm.

Locke was speechless.

If he weren’t a second-ring wizard, but only a first-ring wizard, he would already be a one-eyed dragon.

What happened?

Locke looked at the green foxtail grass that had completely turned blue and was rapidly withering. He walked over, but the next moment, the green foxtail grass, which had been lying prostrate on the ground, suddenly rose up, and two green foxtail grass leaves slashed towards him like propeller blades.

Locke frowned, and the permanent defensive force field and life force field on his body automatically spread, forming a semi-circular force field that enveloped him, protecting him.

The blades cut into this force field and shattered weakly.

The Sith wizard’s voice quickly came out.

“Locke, what happened? Did someone attack you?”

Locke hesitated for a moment.

“No, the experiment went out of control.”

The Sith wizard said, “How can doing basic research on the mechanism of plant drought resistance turn into a battle?”

Mason witch and the other two also rushed over from the tenth underground level.

Locke’s face turned slightly red, knowing that the Sith wizard was mocking him.

Locke said, “Team leader, don’t worry. It’s alright.”

He looked at the green foxtail grass on the ground, his tiger eyes wide open, carefully observing the suddenly out-of-control magical plant.

Something’s wrong.

There’s a problem.

Locke looked at the foxtail grass lying on the ground, dying.

Actually, even now, he couldn’t see anything unusual with his tiger eyes, but Locke thought that the magical plant that had just stolen the light from the entire first-floor laboratory must have been composed of multiple magical plant factors.

At least three or more.

Those were special magical plant factors that could even steal the magical radiance from a wizard.

It matched the characteristics of the second-ring magical plant, Golden Wheat.

‘According to the information from the Starfield Sea Library that Witch Sophia gave me, Golden Wheat was originally a mature magical plant, a Sun Ring Magical Plant. During its development, it would gradually develop from a second-ring magical plant into a powerful magical plant with Star Rings and Moon Rings.’

‘Later, this magical plant began to be lost.’

‘There are a bunch of things that have been lost at the boundary between light and darkness.’ “That magical plant just now acted very strangely. It had clearly recovered the key plant factor for Golden Wheat, but just as it was about to recover, it suddenly went out of control and started attacking me.”

Locke looked at the monocle of the Sunlight Magic Mirror worn by the witch Mason, and then he said directly to her, “Mason, could I borrow that monocle?”

The witch Mason hesitated for a moment, but without thinking much, she immediately took off her monocle and handed it to Locke, saying, “Boss Locke, here you go.”

Locke took the monocle and looked at the dying green foxtail grass. At this moment, the foxtail grass’s tail-shaped inflorescence was still moving weakly on the muddy ground.

It seemed to still want to attack Locke who approached it.

Locke used a grafting knife to cut open the stem of the magical plant, then bent down and adjusted the magnification of the Sunlight Magic Mirror monocle. He first saw the cells inside the wound of the magical plant.

Then, Locke examined all the cells of the magical plant.

Sure enough, he discovered that the various cells of this magical plant were releasing some kind of peculiar message.

Locke frowned.

“It really is a mechanism I didn’t expect. Hmm? These messages… why do they sound so much like a negative energy particle field?”

What kind of magic would be based on a negative energy particle field? The only

thing Locke could think of was necromancy.

Could it be that the mass disappearance of the golden wheat at the boundary between light and darkness back then was related to some kind of necromancy?

Even a typical breeder, upon discovering this anomaly, would be helpless at this point, lacking knowledge of necromancy.

But now, Locke extended his five fingers, each radiating a unique negative energy particle field, and a legendary history book appeared behind him.

The negative energy particle fields combined to form a spell model.

History reappeared!

He was an archaeologist!

“I can read any negative energy particle field. Let me see what this is!”

Locke pressed his five fingers against the green foxtail grass.

“Borrow a day from the past five hundred years. Let me see the truth of history.”

The green foxtail grass instantly released magical light.

In an instant, Locke entered the past model he had constructed.

The next moment, Locke opened his eyes; he was in a wheat field made of golden ears of wheat.

“This… is the boundary between light and darkness? No, this isn’t the current boundary between light and darkness.”

Locke looked up at the sky, where an enormous sun hung, seemingly crafted from gold.

This is the boundary between light and darkness in the past, at its most prosperous time! Back then, the golden wheat hadn’t disappeared yet.

Locke looked at his body, his pupils suddenly shrinking.

Because he wasn’t in human form, but maintained his true dragon form as a three-headed golden dragon.

At the same time, the ground rumbled, like a continuous earthquake. Locke gazed into the distance and saw a ‘giant’ appear, a ‘giant’ that seemed to connect heaven and earth, its head reaching the sky and its feet firmly planted on the ground.

But this ‘giant’ was actually a gigantic skeleton.

Bones served as its cloak, skulls formed its battle robe, and bones combined to form its crown. This giant held up two palaces in each hand.

One palace was formed from piled bones, and the other was made of obsidian.

Both palaces had plaques, but they were too far away to see clearly. The

skeletal giant’s jaws opened and closed repeatedly, emitting a peculiar sound, seemingly a spell, which caused countless undead to surge towards the boundary between light and darkness, surrounding the wheat field.

A skeletal giant, supporting two palaces with both hands, was followed by a massive undead army far larger than the Scourge.

“This is…”

Locke’s clone left the makeshift laboratory in his dormitory, using [A Lone Tree Can’t Support It] to manipulate the Demon Dragon Rose, rushing like a shooting star towards the library of Golden Crown Mountain, where it found the Ackerman troll.

Locke tossed the Ackerman troll wizard a pair of Bloodwave Wizard Shoes he had crafted himself.

The Ackerman troll was delighted with its prey.

“It’s exactly my foot size, Locke. I’ve never told you my foot size before,”

Locke said. “Pure plant wizard shoes have the ability to automatically adapt to the size of a wizard’s feet, so it’s not difficult for me. Ackerman, these are the wizard shoes I made for you. Try them on.”

Wizard Ackerman smiled with satisfaction and said to Locke, “Locke, thank you.”

“You’re so thoughtful.”

“No one has ever cared about the shoes of troll wizards.”

Wizard Ackerman said to Locke, “Locke, is there anything you want to know?”

Locke asked, “I want to ask if there are skeletal giants that can support palaces and stand tall, whose every sound causes a chain reaction of dimensional power, and whose every step feels like death is approaching.”

Wizard Ackerman tapped his head with his thick blue fingers.

“I do recognize what you’re describing. I remember now, the Pale Lord’s personal guard, the Pale Giants.”

“Yes, that’s what you’re talking about. Those Pale Giants were modified from Titans from other worlds. Titans are divine life forms born from parts of the Heart of a Plane, naturally possessing some of the authority of gods. The Pale Lord once transformed a group of powerful Titans into his personal guard, the Pale Giant Knights.”

“These Pale Giants usually appear carrying magical palaces crafted by the Pale Lord; those palaces themselves are top-tier necromancer artifacts. However, Pale Giants haven’t appeared in the wizarding world for a long time. You must have seen them in some book, right?”

Locke paused, then nodded.

Because calling it a book wasn’t wrong.

It just wasn’t a magic book or grimoire he’d read, but rather the book *Negative Energy Particle Field*.

The troll wizard Ackerman said, “Normally, the Pale Giant Knights only appear when the Pale Pilgrimage activates the [Pale Cataclysm]. The Pale Giants support those various undead palaces, as if they were supporting the Root Realm with one hand.”

Locke instantly realized the significance of this statement.

Because the Root Realm of Cloudswamp Wetlands is not something an ordinary second-ring wizard could support.

It is the Root Realm supporting the wizard, not the wizard supporting the Root Realm.

But the Pale Giants, in essence, are supporting a Root Realm with one hand, and the Root Realm is supporting those undead.

Locke said, “A double support?”

Wizard Ackerman’s eyes lit up. “It’s so easy talking to smart people. Do you want to read the book on Double Lift? Oh, by the way, there’s no such material in the free zone of the Second Ring; that’s Third Ring level material. Materials in the Second Ring are basically all paid. And they’re among the most expensive.”

“Double Lift, on the basis of one Root Realm, lifts up the same Root Realm, or another Root Realm—this is something only a Sun Ring wizard can do.”

“Do you want to know?”

Locke quickly replied, “No need. But Ackerman, when was the last time the Pale Pilgrimage sent Pale Giants into the wizarding world?”

Wizard Ackerman said, “If the information I’ve read is correct, it was three thousand years ago. In these three thousand years, the Pale Pilgrimage has maintained a low-intensity activity in the wizarding world. This is probably because the White Wizarding Association has become increasingly powerful recently, and the Pale Pilgrimage’s main area of activity has shifted from the wizarding world to the various colonies.”

Locke asked, “When did the Boundary Between Darkness and Light lose its position as the leading wizarding land?”

“The Golden Crown Mountain doesn’t have much research on this,” said Wizard Ackerman. “It’s at least 10,000 years ago, most likely 15,000 years ago.”

“I don’t know the specifics either,”

Locke asked. “Did the Boundary Between Light and Darkness ever clash with the Pale Pilgrimage?”

Wizard Ackerman pondered.

“Why ask that? They’re completely unrelated. The Pale Pilgrimage’s main area of activity is the Eastern Boundary, their base is the Cloud Marsh Wetlands. They were formed 10,000 years ago by necromancers ostracized by the White Wizard Association.”

“They’re marginalized wizards.”

“The Boundary Between Light and Darkness peaked at least 10,000 years ago.”

“Wizard Locke, the Boundary Between Light and Darkness and the Pale Pilgrimage are products of completely different eras. They shouldn’t have any interaction.”

Locke’s expression changed slightly. He calmly asked, “Does the library have any atlases or detailed descriptions of the Pale Giants? I want to see them for myself.”

Wizard Ackerman chanted a spell, and a magic book automatically flew into his hand.

“Yes. Take a look.”

Locke looked at the illustration in his hand.

That’s right.

“That’s the Pale Giant,”

said Wizard Ackerman. “By the way, all the Pale Lords are wizards who appeared within the last ten thousand years. And the first Pale Giant also appeared within the last ten thousand years. Locke, the Pale Giant and the peak of the Horizon of Darkness and Light are two beings that absolutely cannot come into contact.”

Locke’s eyes turned strange.

Then, why would a Pale Giant appear in the negative energy field hidden within the plant factor sequence of that green foxtail grass?

He originally just wanted to participate in a small cup, but unexpectedly, he might now be able to publish a paper in a top-tier archaeology journal.

…

In the midst of history’s reenactment.

Locke’s true form precisely controlled the Modo language.

The Pale Giant standing on the horizon seemed to be charging towards the golden wheat field, and as he transformed into a golden dragon, a group of other golden dragons appeared around him.

The golden dragons seemed to be discussing something.

“We can’t run anymore. We’ve been caught, no matter how much we run. Their persecution of us will never stop. The Border of Darkness and Light took us in, but now they’ve implicated us.”

“Golden Wheat is nourished with the blood of golden dragons and bred by the [Golden Breeders] of the Border of Darkness and Light. As long as the wheat fields exist, they can continue to protect our race.”

“No. This is… Golden Wheat is degenerating. Impossible! This is the work of the Golden Breeders. Unless someone betrayed us, why would Golden Wheat betray us?”

“We can’t run. The Border of Darkness and Light is the leader of the Eastern Boundary Wizards. We have no room to retreat.”

Suddenly, in this replay of history, all the golden dragons looked at Locke.

“A three-headed golden dragon? Among dragons, the more heads, the closer their bloodline is to the Creator Dragon.”

“A three-headed golden dragon exists?”

Among the golden dragons, an unusual dragon with dark gold fur looked at Locke with greedy eyes.

“After drinking the blood of the three-headed golden dragon, my mixed blood can be purified, right?”

The next moment, a Sun Ring Aberration Dragon looked at Locke with malice, suddenly opening its maw to bite him.

Locke realized that this second-circle-level History Recreation spell model was losing control.

The special necromantic energy hidden in the blue dog’s tail, which had caused the golden wheat ears to degenerate, seemed to have invaded his History Recreation spell model, causing it to have inherent flaws and even allowing a character that shouldn’t have appeared to be mixed into it.

This was the inherent risk of the History Recreation spell model.

No magic is without risk.

He immediately stopped the spell model before History Recreation completely went out of control and he might perish in this negative energy particle field.

“Goodbye.”

Locke’s figure instantly separated from the three-headed golden dragon’s body, his soul transforming into human form and flying towards the sky.

The anomaly dragon, at the Sun Ring level, roared in fury. After crushing the empty shell Locke had left behind, it shouted at the sky, “Don’t even think about escaping!”

“Give me your bloodline!”

‘Damn it. Completely out of control.’

Locke realized that this historical reenactment was completely out of control of his legendary history book.

Normally, an archaeological wizard wouldn’t be able to let a spell model go out of control so easily.

It must be the intervention of the special necromantic energy that caused the golden wheat to degenerate, which caused the loss of control to happen so quickly. The anomaly dragon before him was essentially evolved from that energy, not a character originally from this negative energy particle field.

The Sun Ring level anomaly dragon suddenly became enraged, whipping away the golden dragons that were blocking him and protecting Locke with its tail. It stretched out its claws towards the sky and chanted an ancient dragon language magic incantation.

Locke saw a golden cloud appear in the sky above him.

And within that golden cloud appeared a golden palm with five fingers.

The golden palm fell from the sky.

This golden magic had a unique characteristic: it didn’t conceal its spell model structure, like a game with its source code open.

The golden hand seemed capable of intercepting souls. Locke, struck by it, felt himself standing on it. The next moment, heaven and earth reversed. He opened his eyes to find the laws of physics completely inverted.

Heaven became earth, earth became heaven, head became feet, feet became head.

Everything was overturned.

This was a Sun Ring-level golden magic: Sephiroth’s Grip!

Locke looked down and saw greed in the eyes of the Sun Ring-level mutated dragon.

“I knew you were suspicious. You’re actually a human with the power of a true dragon, hahaha, eating you will greatly benefit my bloodline.”

Locke’s expression changed slightly. Within Sephiroth’s Grip, everything was reversed, so his power was completely reversed, rendering him unable to use his strength.

Wait a minute.

Locke realized that this magic couldn’t reverse his Great Magic and Permanent Defensive Field Shell, apparently because the foundation of these two spells was that World Tree Leaf.

At the same time, the pale giant in the distance suddenly stretched out an arm toward them, “Sin Dragon. From the past, present, and future, you should not exist.”

A streak of green appeared in the golden wheat fields, stretching across the hillsides, indicating a severe degeneration of the magical plants.

This degenerated wheat field seemed to greatly displease the Sun-ring level mutant dragon.

Moreover, the pale giant and the golden dragon were locked in combat, giving Locke an opportunity.

‘Why is the pale giant suddenly helping me? No, he’s not helping me; he’s afraid the mutant dragon will eat me, enhance its bloodline, and increase its power.’

‘Or rather, the forces behind this giant and the mutant dragon are two separate forces.’ This historical reenactment appears to be a war between the golden dragon race and the pale giant, representing two opposing forces, but in reality, three forces are hidden behind it all.’

Locke deduced from this strange behavior that there must be three forces at play; otherwise, such a bizarre situation wouldn’t have occurred.

Locke quickly realized this, rapidly testing his current power—those unaffected and those that had been reversed.

Then, he readjusted the spell model of the Historical Reenactment, forcibly controlling it and terminating the spell.

Within the Grip of Sephiroth, Locke summoned the demonic dragon Rose, which flew rapidly within the golden hand, searching for any opportunity to escape.

Finally, he forced his way out through the gaps between the fingers of the golden hand.

At that moment, Locke’s consciousness traversed the bizarre and fantastical Historical Reenactment spell model and returned to reality.

“Cough cough cough…”

Locke coughed up some blood. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and found that it had turned a pale gold color.

He looked at the green foxtail grass in the magic field.

The magical plant was completely withered.

‘Damn stupid dragon.’

Locke frowned.

“I remember that golden magic should be the Grip of Sephiroth. I read about it in a book before. It’s an extremely powerful golden magic, belonging to a hidden lineage. However, I just remembered most of the spell model.”

He mainly recorded it through archaeological spells.

Mason Witch, Barrett, and Freya approached.

Freya asked Locke, “Team Leader, are you alright? We saw you walk into a magical glow, and when you came out, you seemed injured?”

Barrett looked at the withered magical plant, then at Locke, marveling at the wonders of archaeological magic.

Locke shook his head. “I’m fine, just a slight mishap in the experiment.”   The reversion to the ancestral green foxtail grass

had unexpectedly turned into something he hadn’t anticipated.   The golden wheat’s degeneration into green foxtail grass didn’t seem to be a natural occurrence, but rather something man-made.   Locke guessed, “Plans can’t keep up with changes. This is troublesome.”   ”The green foxtail grass contains a mechanism that suppresses the expression of golden wheat plant factors. Yellow-skinned mushroom extract can disrupt this mechanism to some extent, but not entirely… Should I start with the golden foxtail grass?”   The golden foxtail grass was a second-circle magical plant.   He had initially planned to start with the green foxtail grass for convenience and to save money in the experiment.   But now it seemed that plan wouldn’t work.   “I have an agreement with the Xiaoxi Cup competition committee office. Therefore, this project must be completed within three months and participate in this year’s Xiaoxi Cup.”   Locke’s expression changed slightly. There was no way around it; research was always full of surprises.   Locke pondered, “But thinking about it the other way around, why did the green foxtail grass turn into golden foxtail grass in the later evolutionary process? What happened in between? Perhaps if I figure this out, I can successfully complete the atavism.”   Locke said to the witch Mason, “You three should work on your pineapple magic plant projects first.”   The three of them still needed to select useful types of air pineapple magic plants for themselves, which was also very important, as it concerned their future plans for wizard shoes, and it was also related to their own first-class foundation project.   Locke said, “Don’t worry. I can handle things here.”   The witch Mason nodded. “Okay, Locke. By the way, Locke, a second-circle wizard named Droma came to see you earlier. He seemed to want to meet with you.”   Locke glanced at the witch Mason.   Droma?   Is she the sly person Brandy mentioned, the one who likes to secretly sabotage other people’s experimental results and drive them to quit the station?   However, that’s just Brandy’s opinion; we can’t necessarily believe it entirely.   Locke nodded.   ”Did he say anything?”   Mason Witch asked. “Yes, he wanted you to design a pair of second-ring wizard shoes specifically for him.”   ”A strange request, isn’t it?”   Locke nodded.   ”Not really. Although I’m a breeder, a lot of my recent research has focused on making pure magical plant wizard shoes.”   (End of Chapter)
