Chapter 816 Super Jaeger’s Dream Flower

Carter Dunn’s dormitory was a gallery filled with magical paintings. The paintings didn’t feature actual flowers, but rather rainbow-like streaks of paint.

Below each painting hung the artist’s name, title, and a brief description.

Based on these descriptions, Locke deduced that the various ‘rainbows’ on these paintings seemed to express some artistic concept. It was likely that the higher-ups of the Rose Council had approached the magical painters, requesting them to use the natural colors of various rose-like flowers to create combinations, then apply these paints to the paintings to recreate the beauty of the flowers transformed into chaotic paint.

In other words, these magical paintings were essentially purely decorative.

Locke’s only comment on these paintings was—’Living in a dormitory filled with art is indeed a unique experience.’

At this moment, he and Carter entered Carter’s makeshift laboratory. Although Carter thought the laboratory was too rudimentary, Locke felt it was sufficient.

He had already rented ten acres of magical fields at the Rose Council’s market in advance. It wasn’t expensive, as it was rented by the day, and he estimated it would only cost 30,000 to 40,000 magic stones in the end.

Meanwhile, in the makeshift laboratory attached to Carter’s dormitory, he lifted the nascent Dream Flower, the Jaeger rose, from a flowerpot in a corner.

The Jaeger rose was already half-dead.

Perhaps feeling it was indeed inappropriate, the wizard Carter coughed awkwardly and explained to Locke, “Because maintenance costs money, I just found a flowerpot and planted it in it.”

“I’m sorry, Lord Augustine, my room and laboratory are a bit messy,”

Locke shook his head slightly.

“Give me your documents.”

Carter immediately squatted down and began rummaging through the messy documents in his cardboard box. He searched for five minutes, his forehead covered in sweat, growing increasingly anxious and guilty.

He had no idea that a second-ring archmage would take notice of his research.

His documents were just lying around haphazardly.

When the time came, where could he find it so quickly?

Locke sighed almost imperceptibly. To some extent, he could understand why the witch Olivia treated him this way.

“Just give me the part of the information you have.”

Wizard Carter nodded immediately, stood up, and handed the document to Locke.

Locke flipped through the document, raised his eyebrows, and nodded. Although Wizard Carter wasn’t fond of organizing and categorizing information, his thinking was still sound. No wonder he became a Crystallized Wizard around the age of forty.

Although the requirements for Chair Wizards at the top wizarding universities in Yunze Wetlands weren’t as extreme as those at the Advanced True Knowledge Institute, one generally needed to become a Crystallized Wizard before the age of fifty, or even forty-five.

After all, there were simply too many wizards who wanted to join these top wizarding universities in Yunze Wetlands.

Locke glanced at it; his main idea was divided into two parts.

The first part was to improve the basic stats of the Jaeger Rose through hybridization, while simultaneously crossbreeding it with a rose called the Black Death Rose and the White Angel Rose. The first

part involved hybridizing three types of roses to create a magical plant capable of constructing powerful dreamscapes.

The second part involved using the Queen’s Chessboard and the enchanted spell model “Enchanted by Dreams” to construct a breathtaking dreamscape, drawing the wizard’s consciousness into it and allowing him to experience scenes impossible in the real world.

Locke looked at this second part; the other’s basic skills were indeed problematic. The breeding section in the first part was a complete mess.

Of course, this was largely due to his lack of real funding, preventing him from conducting genuine research.

However, Wizard Carter had done an excellent job in the second part.

Without using the Queen’s Chessboard, and without the money to buy even the simplest enchanting equipment, he pieced together an enchanted knife and an enchanting workbench from discarded laboratory junk, and still managed to complete this part quite well.

Locke looked at him in surprise.

“You’re an enchanter?”

Wizard Carter said somewhat embarrassedly, “I’ve studied some and even passed the exam. The Rose Council’s enchanting is considered quite good.”

Locke nodded; this was the main reason he admired Carter.

His ideas about enchanting were indeed good.

The Dream Flower wasn’t just a simple battle-level magical plant; it was a product of the interplay of enchanting, breeding, and botany.

Breeding involved cultivating this magical plant, botany involved designing a matching botanical spell model, and enchanting involved imbuing the plant with the “Forgetful Joy” spell. Carter

had his strengths in enchanting and spell modeling.

However, his talent in breeding was only average. His

breeding talent held him back, making it insufficient to complete the project.

His lack of importance in Olivia’s research group was likely related to this; his strengths were precisely what Olivia didn’t value.

Locke directly told Wizard Carter, “Then perfecting ‘Forgetful Joy’ and the matching botanical spell model will be your responsibility.”

Locke continued, “You need to hurry, because I will create the Dream Flower and complete the related breeding work within a week.”

Wizard Carter was taken aback.

“A week? Okay…okay.”

Wizard Carter thought for a moment and said to Locke, “Lord Augustine, if you’d like, you could try learning some second-circle botany spells, like ‘Ephemeral Dream.’ My idea for the Dream Flower comes from a simplified first-circle version of ‘Ephemeral Dream,’ a fleeting moment.”

Locke seemed thoughtful. “Alright, we can each get what we need. Here are 700,000 magic stones. Take them. This money should be enough for you to complete the modification of the enchantment spell model for ‘Enchanted by Joy.’”

Wizard Carter’s eyes widened when he saw the 700,000 magic stones.

Locke was actually giving him the money directly, without even going through the finance department for reimbursement.

Wizard Carter said, “Lord Augustine, I will complete the task as soon as possible.”

…

Three days later, Locke was cultivating magical plants in a rented shop in a magical field on Rose Street. At this time, the ten acres of land were filled with first-circle roses or other flowering plants.

Locke, meanwhile, looked at the pink and white Jaeger rose in his hand. This Jaeger rose was based on Carter’s research, but because it had gone too far, it was almost unrelated to the wizard Carter’s original idea.

Locke rejected Carter’s breeding design and, based on the Jaeger rose, fused it with the Black Death rose and the Red Devil rose, completing the Dream Flower at the first-level.

The advantage of hybridization is that it allows for the simultaneous use of pollen from multiple magical plants.

This involves combining the ligands of the father (providing pollen) and the mother (receiving pollen) from different genetic backgrounds.

In this way, multiple magical plant traits can be passed on to the next generation, creating genetic diversity.

In a sense, hybridization is far superior to grafting in terms of both genetic diversity and the stable inheritance of multiple magical plant traits.

Locke previously disliked hybridization because most of the magical plants he cultivated had little to do with flowers.

While hybridization can be used even without flowers, the difficulty and effectiveness are incomparable.

The greatest benefit of grafting is actually supporting the rapid and healthy growth of certain plants.

Of course, through spiritual fusion, the grafted magical plant will also possess some of the rootstock’s spiritual characteristics, thus unstablely inheriting certain magical plant traits.

However, grafting cultivation cannot, like hybridization cultivation, simultaneously crossbreed multiple pollen types to create complex genetic conditions.

Locke, standing in his ten-acre magic field, looked at the Dream Flower in his hand and sighed. His foundation was still too shallow.

This time, entering the Rose Council, he spent three days using the Evolution Moon to accelerate the growth of magical plants, using the blooming and withering of flowers in conjunction with Rubik’s Cube synthesis, and combining this complex and varied hybridization cultivation method, finally designing a Dream Flower as envisioned by Carter.

However, this experience made Locke even more convinced that he needed more experience to gain more knowledge.

His experience in evolutionary biology and breeding was still too limited.

For example, this time, using pollen from three different rose/horse varieties for hybridization was indeed a completely new experience. It

was even quite interesting.

It must be said that hybridization of rose-type magical plants is indeed very fascinating.

Locke read the Dream Flower’s entry—[Jaeger Dream Flower, Level 8 Synthetic Item]. This plant was created by hybridizing pollen from the Red Devil Rose and the Black Death Rose, with the pistil of the Jaeger Rose as the mother.

It possesses the ability to independently construct dreams; one can enter a dream simply by smelling its fragrance.

Locke frowned, using a wisp of lunar essence to infuse the Jaeger Dream Flower, preparing to forcibly upgrade it to a second-ring magical plant.

He had obtained three and a half zero-level potions from killing the pirates, but the pirate’s corpse was special, so he hadn’t yet refined it into a potion.

In other words, including the one and a half zero-level potion he obtained from the Twin Demon Realms, he had a total of five zero-level potions.

One zero-level potion was used to support the six-stemmed, twelve-flowered Great Glazed Winter Green Plum, one zero-level potion was used to support his second-ring Sea Gold Sand (one had broken, and he had replanted a second-ring Sea Gold Sand), and one zero-level potion was used to support the Great Bloodwave Pineapple Wizard Shoes. He now had two remaining.

So, Locke used one portion to evolve the Jaeger Dream Flower.

An hour later, Locke plucked an imaginary root from a golden peach tree and grafted it onto the Dream Flower, transforming it into a second-ring wild magical plant.

But Locke wasn’t finished yet.

To create an imaginary root server, this level was far from sufficient.

His own breeding system, designed for rapid publication and results, was also far more advanced than this.

An evolutionary moon descended, and Locke chanted a spell, causing the second-ring Jaeger Dream Flower to wither.

Second-ring botany spell model – Flower blooms and fades!

Three seeds fell, and a second-ring Jaeger Dream Flower withered.

Locke frowned, looking at the surrounding magic fields. He had miscalculated; he hadn’t considered the resources needed to cultivate three second-ring magical plants. These magic fields couldn’t support just one second-ring magical plant.

A higher-level magic field is needed.

But that would cost at least 300,000 magic stones per acre.

“It was so much more fun ripping off the equipment in Teacher’s Group 2 lab,”

Locke thought, recalling how he directly accessed magic arrays and resources there.

He negotiated with the shop owner and, after paying one million magic stones (one hundred thousand as a deposit), borrowed three acres of second-ring level magic fields.

These three acres were located underground in the shop, beneath Rose Street.

Locke looked up at the sky and saw the bottom of a surging elemental pool on the basement ceiling.

Ah, so that’s it. An elemental fission well was placed above this basement, artificially creating a magical tide concentration gradient environment suitable for second-ring magic plants. But if the elemental fission well were attacked, the entire commercial street would probably be destroyed.

No wonder three acres of magic fields, even just temporarily borrowed, cost so much.

These artificially created second-ring magical plants, with their suitable growing environment, are indeed expensive to produce. If you’re not creating them for your own use but renting them, it will cost a fortune.

Locke placed three seeds in the magical field and then manipulated the magic array to concentrate the magical tide. The magical tide was so concentrated that a magical tide storm even appeared in the basement.

Three storms continuously crashed against the basement walls, which were reinforced by the defensive magic array.

At this moment, Locke chanted a spell, using the second-ring spell model [Powerful Accelerated Growth] to accelerate the growth of these magical plants.

Four days later, three second-ring Jaeger Dream Flowers sprouted. Locke picked them and examined them in his hand. “Some degeneration has occurred. I don’t know if it’s due to limited conditions, rudimentary equipment, or because the offspring of hybridization can degenerate under certain circumstances.”

“After all, I didn’t do backcrossing, so I didn’t stabilize their traits.”

There was no other way; if he had done backcrossing, the cost, time, and manpower would have been much greater.

And it wasn’t necessary.

Although some degeneration occurred, it was enough for synthesis.

Locke pondered, “Actually, the Jaeger Dream Flower, which has been enhanced with the Moon of Evolution and given a one-level boost, is already usable.”

“Therefore, I don’t need to keep synthesizing and searching for recipes, but it would be best to enhance it again with the Synthesis Cube.”

“This way, perhaps we can get better results.”

After all, the core of his Imaginary Root virtual server is still the Netherworld Iron Tree, a mysterious magical plant of unknown level that he discovered beneath the River Styx. Essentially, even if this plan succeeds, it’s because he’s fished out the power of that mysterious magical plant.

Otherwise, simply sharing Imaginary Roots is unreliable.

The amount of Imaginary Roots is directly proportional to the energy it can provide to a magical plant; if the energy is insufficient, several second-ring magical plants might even collapse simultaneously.

Therefore, the key is to have enough energy.

And what could possess more and more powerful energy than that mysterious Netherworld Iron Tree?

A day later, in the underground laboratory.

Locke retrieved the Jaeger Dream Flower, which he had enhanced twice, from the cube.

[Super Jaeger’s Dream Flower, a level 9 crafted item, is synthesized from three second-ring Jaeger’s Dream Flowers. It possesses powerful energy and can construct a stable dream for an extended period, possessing its own independent dream space. It is said that during its growth, it unintentionally hybridized with pollen from the Red Demon Rose, thus creating its independent dream space.]

[This independent dream space is located on a stalk of the Super Jaeger’s Dream Flower, approximately the size of a thumbnail.]

[Although its material foundation for dealing with the real world is extremely limited, the dream space possesses a sufficiently vast capacity. Properly utilizing this dream space might allow for extraordinary achievements.]

Locke’s eyes lit up slightly upon seeing this dream space.

“This time I’m lucky; a special synthesis recipe appeared directly.”

“By the way, the Crimson Demon Rose does indeed possess an independent spiritual space on the stalk within its flower. This is the Crimson Demon Rose’s unique ability, and its charm; the Crimson Demon captures the souls that die under its fragrance and takes them into that spiritual space.”

“My teacher planted such a Crimson Demon Rose in the corridor of the True Knowledge Academy’s castle to warn other wizards against entering the garden corridor near her office.”

Locke’s eyes lit up slightly.

This is the interesting aspect of hybridization, and also the interesting aspect of magical plants—using multiple parent plants (pollen) to cultivate magical plants of different shapes.

The specific cultivation method for the Super Jaeger magical plant before him was also explained through the entry; in other words, he could try cultivating it from start to finish using hybridization.

However, Locke didn’t have that thought at the moment.

He held the pale pink Jaeger Dream Flower, which faintly glowed in the air, in his hand. This Super Jaeger was entirely pink, but its surface was covered with streaks of red, blood-like substance, like the bloodstains on a beautiful woman’s fair face.

“It’s only level 9 now. I could synthesize it again. But…” Locke frowned. This one alone had already cost him a million magic stones. Synthesizing it again would cost even more.

He decided against it.

Using his teacher’s lab for experiments would reduce the cost considerably.

Currently, this Super Jaeger was perfectly capable of fulfilling the task he envisioned.

If his idea could actually be realized…

Locke sent a message to Wizard Carter through the Water Hyacinth System. “Carter, are you done? I need the Enchantment Spell Model: Forgetful of Home.”

…

Inside the Queen’s Chessboard, Wizard Carter was working diligently. He wiped the sweat from his brow, afraid that his spirituality would mix with the spirituality inside the Queen’s Chessboard room, causing severe soul damage.

Wizard Carter, sensing Locke’s call, activated the Ganoderma lucidum plant.

“Lord Locke, so fast? As expected of a second-ring archmage, cultivating the Dream Flower so quickly,”

he messaged Locke. ‘Lord Locke, give me three more days, and I can finish.’

…

In the underground magic field, Locke shut down the [Sun Lamp], raising an eyebrow.

“Hmm? Just three days? He’s quite fast. It seems his talent in enchanting is indeed quite good.”

“My shop alliance needs this kind of talent.”

Studying three subjects on his own was already incredibly difficult, and enchanting was something he had never encountered before. Fortunately,

there were two decent wizards at the Rose Council this time, and perhaps he could recruit them into his Augustus Wizard Shoes Shop Alliance in the future.

Of course, that was assuming his shop alliance could survive the strangulation of Solas’s Barefoot.

In the basement,

Locke, knowing that Carter would need some time, decided to first test the Dream Flower in the River Styx.

After all, the Dream Flower was already complete; the enchantment spell model only provided a rule for its internal dream space.

But even without that enchantment spell, he could still use the “Ephemeral Dream” technique he learned in the Golden Crown Mountain Library to create some simple dream worlds.

Locke chanted a spell, summoning the River Styx. He had previously obtained a large amount of the legacy left by the Ghost Lich in the southeast corner of the region. With the insightful perspective of a second-circle wizard, although many functions were unusable, summoning the River Styx was still achievable.

“Sacrifices are needed.”

Locke exuded a strong killing intent. “To open the gates of the underworld, one needs to sacrifice the death energy clinging to their body, so one needs to kill sacrifices to accumulate death energy. Dark wizards often have to slaughter many apprentices to open the gates of the underworld.”

“However, I can skip this step. I’ve accumulated quite a bit of death energy from killing second-ring and first-ring wizards. I was worried that this would make me seem too fierce and menacing, easily leading to misunderstandings and a bad first impression. In the future, I can use the method of opening the gates of the underworld to consume the death energy on my body.”

At this moment, a gate to the underworld opened, the ‘gate’ seemingly there yet not there, like a crack between the plane and the mortal world.

If it were a wizard of the Ghostly Holy Church, they would need to prepare a lot of rituals to protect themselves before stepping into the underworld, and there would still be a high degree of danger.

But at this moment, Locke was a second-ring wizard.

He stepped out, directly from the wizarding world into the underworld, on the River Styx.

“It should be around here.”

Locke, relying on his magical connection with the Shadow Fern, moved the opened gate to the River Styx where he had been before. He saw many Netherworld creatures swimming on the river.

“Hmm? Why are so many Netherworld creatures cleaning the river?”

“Hmm, it definitely has nothing to do with me. Let me throw this demonic plant into the River Styx first.”

Locke threw the Dream Flower into the river. The Dream Flower, which had been perfectly docile in Locke’s hand, seemingly an ordinary object, suddenly unleashed a surge of magical pressure the moment it was thrown, crashing down on the River Styx like a mountain.

Instantly, the River Styx surged and churned, its waters rising and falling.

The Netherworld Yakshas on the River Styx swayed precariously on the Netherworld warships.

These Yakshas seemed unable to see Locke; they resembled red-skinned monsters with burning soul fire in their pupils, seemingly only able to clearly see the dead, unable to see the living.

They were terrified on the ships. “What happened?”

“Ah, what’s that above us? Quick, get the warships further away!”

“It’s about to crash down!”

“Quick…”

“Who is it? Throwing things into our River Styx again!”
