Chapter 809 Three-Dimensional Coordinates, One-Dimensional Consciousness

Bonifacius University, Library.

Since the entire Bonifacius University complex is situated beside Cloud Lake, this library is also located beside the lake. Unlike the castle-like libraries of Golden Crown Mountain, Bonifacius University’s library resembles the high-rise buildings of his previous life.

Locke followed the witch Georgina into the library. Inside, flying were ceramic spheres the size of badminton shuttlecocks, each with a pair of feathered wings.

These spheres circled Locke and Georgina, checking their library badges.

Georgina the Witch explained, “These are witch pottery pieces from Boniface University.”

“Boniface University is the birthplace of witch pottery technology, therefore it possesses the most advanced witch pottery techniques.”

“These are witch pottery pieces called Flying Ball Nobodies.”

“Tell the Flying Ball Nobodies what you need, and they will perfectly fulfill all your library requirements. These witch pottery pieces have been inscribed with spells by generalists; although they cannot compare to professional generalist wizards, their sheer number is their advantage.”

Georgina the Witch led Locke into the Boniface University library. Inside, bookshelves stretched like towering mountains, appearing at various angles. On the ceiling and walls, in every direction, wizards and scholars walked by with books.

The first floor of the library was mostly filled with wizard apprentices, who looked upon the two second-circle wizards entering with awe, bowing respectfully.

“Mentor Georgina.”

“Mentor Augustine.”

Georgina, the witch, looked at Locke and asked with a smile, “How is our central library at Bonifacius University?”

Locke replied, “It’s full of talented people, has excellent facilities, and its pottery techniques are unparalleled.”

“And it has a very broad mind.”

Georgina, the witch, stood with her hands behind her back, wearing a fringed witch’s robe that resembled a rainbow. Becoming a second-circle witch had improved her status at Bonifacius University, which seemed to put her in a good mood.

“Good eye. The seven top wizarding universities in Yunze Wetlands either have vision limited to their current status, like the Storm Tower, or they are like your Golden Crown Mountain and Rose Council, obsessed with the status of the Three Swamps.”

“But our Boniface University focuses on the fifty-three wizarding lands of the Eastern Region, the hundreds of wizarding lands of the eight major regions, the various colonized worlds, the new sea routes, the True Chaos Sea, and the Blue Universe.”

Georgina the Witch said, “Boniface University not only aims to always be number one in Yunze Wetlands, but also number one in the Three Swamps, an important part of the Eastern Region, and to become a very important player in the entire wizarding world.”

Georgina the Witch added, “Unlike you who prefer to recruit local wizards or wizards with special bloodlines, Boniface University is very open. Half of its students are not from local wizarding lands, or even from the Eastern Region.”

Locke did not comment, but listened and nodded.

Unlike Georgina, the witch who was fanatical about Boniface University, Locke knew that a goal was merely an ideal, and whether it could be achieved was the key.

Boniface University was indeed currently the top university in Cloud Marsh Wetlands, but compared to the three super-sized wizarding universities in Thunder Marsh Lowlands, which were formed by the collective efforts of the entire wizarding community, Cloud Marsh Wetlands alone was insufficient.

Therefore, while Boniface University was powerful, three problems prevented it from competing with Starfield Sea and Thunder Marsh Lowlands.

First, its relatively low profile hindered its ability to recruit top-tier wizarding instructors.

Second, its student body was still insufficient, and Cloud Marsh Wetlands would no longer provide it with preferential policies.

Third, there was the issue of finances.

Georgina and Locke went up to the sixth floor of the library, the second-ring wizarding area, where the second-ring wizards of Boniface University were now coming and going.

Locke encountered many Star Ring and Moon Ring wizards here, but rarely Sun Ring wizards.

However, he quickly understood why.

Currently, due to the Genesis Academic Conference being held in the Southern Boundary, many Third Ring Wizards have gone there. Naturally, the responsibility for the overall situation of the major universities and main cities in Cloudze Wetlands now falls on the shoulders of Sun Ring Wizards.

Therefore, Sun Ring Wizards must be very busy right now.

Georgina Witch didn’t speak as loudly as she had on the first floor. She said softly, “My position at Bonifacio University is still relatively low. Bonifacio University is a behemoth, and I want to contribute to its development.”

“I wonder if my efforts will be enough to stay on campus,”

Locke said, looking at Georgina Witch. “Georgina, you want to stay in Cloudze Wetlands? I thought you would go to Starfield Sea.”

Georgina Witch shook her head.

“Bonifacio is my home. And I have a stain on my record.”

Locke pondered, “Starfield Sea has never had a set of values. They only check your resume; they shouldn’t scrutinize your parents’ generation.”

Locke realized something was amiss and immediately coughed, explaining, “I only heard about your situation from friends occasionally.”

A silvery laugh rang out from beneath Georgina Witch’s mask.

“You don’t need to apologize. Locke, you’re so kind. No one has ever felt embarrassed or apologized to me for knowing about me.”

“It was Diana who told you, wasn’t it? It’s alright, she’s told me quite a bit about you too.”

Georgina said, “But I can’t forgive myself. I want to stay here, build this wizarding university, make amends for my mistakes, and wash away the shame on my body.”

Locke hesitated.

“Even if you already know that we cooperate with the dark wizards, and that the Five Great Wars are fueled by the various wizarding universities?”

Georgina said, “Using everything around us to achieve our own goals is one of the eight virtues of our world. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Besides, although we cooperate with the Five Great Wars, the conflicts outweigh the cooperation. Would you stop hunting Void Pirates just because Mount Golden Crown is funding pirate motherships?”

“Would you refuse to cooperate with your enemy if there were benefits to be gained because you have a grudge against him?”

A laugh came from beneath Georgina’s mask.

“No, you won’t. Giving up benefits is a betrayal of our society’s values.”

Locke glanced at Georgina, knowing she was a staunch practitioner of the values of the white wizarding society. Honestly, she shouldn’t have studied textiles; she should have studied holy magic instead—it would have been far better.

Georgina led Locke to a bookshelf.

“This is the publicly available free material. You don’t have Boniface University’s second-ring contribution points to redeem the paid literature here. But I think the free literature alone should be enough.”

“Don’t look at me. I don’t have any second-ring contribution points on me right now. Our lab is short of contribution points, and even if we had any left over, my colleagues would have already used them to redeem the articles they needed.”

Locke nodded slightly.

“It’s definitely enough.”

The free literature in Yunze Wetland is generally from fifty years ago, while research content from the last fifty years requires contribution points to redeem.

In other words, the content in Boniface University’s second-ring free area is more than enough for his needs.

Locke said some keywords to the magic books flying orbs, and immediately these magic books began to automatically search for the magic books he needed.

One magic book after another was picked up by these magic books and placed accurately in front of him.

“Just finding books is already comparable to a generalist wizard.”

Locke flipped through the magic books in his hands.

“Boniface University’s breeding program does indeed have a different focus than that of Golden Crown Mountain. Golden Crown Mountain’s breeding program leans towards agronomy, while Boniface University’s focuses on urban greening.”

“Their research on magical plants leans towards large-scale environmental modification. Even if it’s just about planting magical plants in certain areas in the hope of improving the microenvironment of that area.”

Locke’s eyes brightened slightly. “The research on rhizosphere here is very in-depth, and there’s also a lot of research on imaginary roots. It’s really a great find. Reading magic books here really gives me a sense of cross-disciplinary understanding, as if I’ve come to see breeding from another perspective. This is very enlightening for me.”

The witch Georgina glanced at Locke, who was engrossed in his magic book and showed no sign of going to the laboratory to start experiments.

She frowned slightly, her eyes showing puzzlement.

Because breeding is an experimental discipline, and among experimental disciplines, it has one of the longest experimental cycles, only slightly better than astronomy.

Therefore, most second-ring breeders are usually covered in mud, with at least one clone busy in the magical fields of the laboratory all day.

Those who don’t know better might just say, “Isn’t that just a farmer?

Why is Locke spending all his time in the library?”

Georgina the witch didn’t waste words. Her long-term experience of discrimination had instilled in her a cautious and discreet personality, but she only spoke a few more words when facing Locke, her old rival.

Perhaps his clone was already busy in the magical fields of Golden Crown Mountain?

…

Golden Crown Mountain, Locke’s ancient tree clone, finally returned to this sacred mountain where a golden sun hung.

However, his first step was to take the witch Stephania to sit on Little Peach Mountain and watch the sunrise.

The High Priestess Stephania looked at Locke with wary eyes.

“Lord Augustine, what brings you here?”

Locke stood with his hands behind his back, atop the highest rock beside the peach orchard on Little Peach Mountain, looking up at the sky and pointing to the sun. “High Priestess Stephania, how long has it been since you last saw the sun?”

Stephania smiled bitterly.

“We necromancers cannot casually expose ourselves to sunlight, or we will dissipate the death energy we have accumulated. Not just us necromancers, but all necromancers are basically subject to this.”

“So, this is one of the few times I’ve seen a sunrise since becoming a wizard.”

Locke smiled slightly. “Then, before you die, I’ll show you one last sunrise. Wouldn’t that allow you to die without regrets?”

Stephania fell silent for a moment at these fierce words.

“Great Wizard of the Eyes. The rising sun may be a beautiful sight for mortals or other wizards, but for me, it’s nothing more than something I can’t touch and that I loathe. What’s the point of making up for regrets?”

“Great Wizard of the Eyes, what you want me to say, I truly cannot say. If I tell you, I’ll be useless to you. Besides, I have leverage over the Pale Pilgrimage. If I betray them, my fate will be dire.”

“So, unless you give me a chance to join a lower-level academy at Mount Golden Crown, I cannot say. No matter how severely you torture me, it will remain the same.”

“Even if you invite me into your Mount Golden Crown prison, I will maintain this attitude.”

The witch Stephania looked nervously at Locke.

“Although you are a second-circle archmage, I have already placed a magical seal on my soul.”

“If that seal is forcibly broken, my soul will self-destruct.”

The witch Stephania seemed to understand that her only chance of survival lay in Locke’s desire to obtain the core spells of the Ghostly Arts of the Ghostly Cult through her.

In the past few days, to survive, she had indeed vomited up some things intermittently.

But it was like squeezing toothpaste.

It seemed far from the ritual magic model of the Ghostly Cult that Locke truly desired.

Locke turned to look at the witch Stephania, placed his index finger to his lips, and whispered, “Keep your voice down. The sunrise at Golden Crown Mountain is extremely beautiful. This is a 5A-level scenic spot certified by the White Wizard Association. I brought you here just to let you see the sunrise.”

“Look, over there.”

The witch Stephania looked puzzled; she didn’t know why Locke had brought her here.

At that moment, she saw the sun of Golden Crown Mountain just hanging high in the sky, and saw rows of formal wizards piloting small flying vehicles heading towards the sun.

In Stephania’s eyes, a magical array seemed to have been established between Golden Crown Mountain and the sun, allowing the collection of celestial fire energy, which was then transformed into magical tides that descended upon Golden Crown Mountain, nourishing its magical plants.

This made Golden Crown Mountain almost one with the sun of the wizarding world.

Stephania was amazed; after all, this was a top academy within the Grand Wizarding Grounds of Cloud Marsh Wetlands. She had never even seen such a method in the Southeastern Region.

However, as she continued to observe, she became increasingly uneasy.

The wizards on the small flying vehicles close to the sun, even with their permanent defensive force fields, were repeatedly being roasted like peeled shrimp due to the special magical array connecting heaven and earth and being too close to the sun.

Some first-ring wizards even fell from the sky, crashing from their small flying vehicles.

Stephania was horrified.

The clothing worn by the wizards piloting the small flying vehicles and moving between the special magical array was not that of the Golden Crown Mountain faculty.

Stephania the witch stared wide-eyed at the wizards, their skin peeling from the sun, and swallowed hard.

“Those aren’t wizards from Golden Crown Mountain, are they?”

Locke nodded. “This job pays very well, thirty thousand magic stones a month. But it’s extremely damaging to the body and soul. While it won’t kill you in a short time, it will leave serious aftereffects. And let’s not even talk about the aftereffects; look, they’re practically working under the scorching sun, they’re practically on fire!”

“Stephania, you guessed right. Those are wizard prisoners from Golden Crown Mountain.”

“They’re not even debt slaves.”

Stephania looked at Locke with suspicion, her eyes filled with fear.

Locke smiled and said, “Debt slaves are simply people who have lost their freedom because they owe debts. But ultimately, they are just debt laborers for wizards, not true slaves or prisoners. Naturally, they wouldn’t be here doing this.” “

So, these people are all wizard prisoners from the surrounding areas transferred from Golden Crown Mountain.”

“They use working here to reduce their punishment. High Priestess Stephania, if you were to enter the Golden Crown Mountain prison, you’d probably be here the next day.”

The next moment, a first-class black wizard apprentice with 800 magic pressure, forced to work here, finally couldn’t hold on any longer. His magic pressure was ignited by the sunlight, turning into a fireball, and he himself fell from the sky.

The witch Stephania shuddered.

“Don’t you…don’t your ethics and morality review committee care?”

Locke said coldly. “Legally, if someone were treated like this, it would have triggered an ethics and morality review long ago. But the problem is, dark wizards aren’t considered human. So, look around, where is anyone being treated unfairly?”

“Master, when you used the vengeful spirits of your students to create your magic, you should have understood that if you don’t treat others as human, they can treat you the same way.”

The witch Stephania’s face turned completely pale in an instant.

“Great Bewitching Wizard, I regret it.”

Locke: “Hmm?”

The witch Stephania sighed.

“Every time I think about how I didn’t forcefully kill you back then, but instead used you to exchange for a formal witch of our Ghostly Holy Cult, I regret it.”

“Back then, I was wrong.”

“This is a spell model of my ritual magic. Here you go, Great Bewitching Wizard.”

The witch Stephania extracted a spell model from her soul.

She said, “I only hope you’ll have the Holy Tribunal sentence me to death, rather than send me to that hellish place.”

Locke examined the spell model she had given him and finally confirmed that this was what he needed.

Locke’s eyes lit up.

“So that’s it. The core of this ritual magic is to superimpose the consciousness waves of two individuals, and then use the special properties of the River Styx to create a part completed at the consciousness level that can be mapped into reality.”

Locke was inspired by the idea behind this spell model.

At the same time, he learned from this spell model that the founder of the Ghostly Holy Church seemed to be a being nicknamed the Ghostly Lich from the other side of the Pale Pilgrimage.

The consciousness wave superposition magic created by the other party using the special properties of the River Styx was truly divine.

It was unparalleled.

Therefore, this spell was a closely guarded secret of the Ghostly Holy Church for five hundred years, and only the leader could learn it.

“Ghostly Lich?”

Locke murmured.

The witch Stephania seemed a little afraid.

“Great Wizard of the Eyes, don’t utter the name of your ancestor carelessly. It will bring misfortune.”

Locke glanced at her, then lowered his head to think. “This old thing’s thinking gives me the feeling that it’s not very clever, but it’s been refined through countless trials.”

“The Ghost Lich is probably a wizard who has lived for a very long time.”

“This guy was able to create such an exquisite spell model through the accumulation of experience.”

“And…”

Locke had never quite understood the difference between a Permanent Defensive Field Shell and a Permanent Defensive Field before. He had only recently become a second-circle wizard, and although he had obtained a Permanent Defensive Field Shell in battle, he hadn’t fully understood it.

He had read the books of Mount Golden Crown before, but he was still confused.

But now he finally understood what this thing was.

A normal permanent defensive field is simply a three-dimensional structure within the soul.

This is the permanent defensive field of a first-ring wizard.

A second-ring wizard’s soul and ultimate magic each possess an identical permanent defensive field, so upon becoming a second-ring wizard, their permanent defensive fields overlap.

According to the explanation from Golden Crown Mountain, one of these two permanent defensive fields transforms into the original three-dimensional structure, while the other transforms into a one-dimensional consciousness.

That is, three-dimensional spatial coordinates plus one-dimensional consciousness.

Locke had previously only vaguely understood this, not understanding where this one-dimensional consciousness came from. After all, spirituality was not unfamiliar to wizards; they could see it with spiritual vision during the first-level wizard apprentice stage, and could see spirituality at the Force level at the second-ring stage.

Therefore, three-dimensional coordinates plus one-dimensional spirituality was not difficult for him to understand.

His own permanent defensive field shell was designed by high-ring wizards, and at this stage, this transformation would occur without any hindrance.

Therefore, Locke had never truly understood it before.

At this moment, while observing the consciousness wave superposition magic set up by the Ghost Lich of the Ghost Cult, Locke suddenly realized something.

If an ordinary permanent defensive field is like a wizard being protected by a car, then the shell of the permanent defensive field is the ground on which the car stands.

This spell model revealed something to him: in Ghost Studies, or in the theories of this Ghost Lich, the world is as follows—

consciousness is not produced by the soul, but rather the soul resides within consciousness.

Consciousness is a dimension!

Locke also perceived this from the spell model left by the Ghost Wizard in the Ghost Cult. The Ghost Lich seemed to believe that the soul is the inner observer of consciousness, the soul is enveloped within consciousness, which is why a person can still perceive ‘I’ as ‘I’.

Because ‘I’ is this stable soul body, while consciousness is a special spatial structure similar to an ocean.

It’s like a glass of water; the soul is the water in the glass, and consciousness is the glass itself.

‘The sea of consciousness and permanent defensive field of the wizarding civilization probably both referenced this achievement of Soul Studies.’ Locke

pondered, “The reason the library of Mount Golden Crown is so vague is because even the author didn’t understand it. Moreover, this is different from the three-dimensional + one-dimensional spiritual realm and the Imaginary Sea; these are things we can directly observe. The consciousness dimension indicated by the spell model of the Ghost Lich and the Perpetual Defensive Field Shell is still a result of soul science deduction.”

“Whether it truly exists is difficult to confirm.”

“Whether the Perpetual Defensive Field Shell is three-dimensional coordinates + one-dimensional consciousness, I think relevant researchers probably can’t provide hard evidence to prove it. Perhaps it’s just a wrong view.”

In other words, this was the first time Locke had encountered a situation in the wizarding world where he completely didn’t understand a certain structure of his own body, and even the wizarding world itself was vague about it.

Of course, it could also be that he had too little access to high-quality soul science materials.

The Three Swamps weren’t good at magic in this area.

Locke pondered, “But this thing that can be considered a conjecture exists in the Styx world without needing proof… because the Styx is a consciousness plane! That’s the special plane rule there.” “

Of course, based on the information I’ve currently accessed regarding soul science, I cannot be certain whether this conjecture exists in the wizarding world or other life planes. Or is it merely a special phenomenon, a unique soul structure that requires magical power to create independently?”
