We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real? - Chapter 6
Chapter 6 I am Jiang Renhuang’s brother
The old man kneeling in the Jiang family ancestral hall is the oldest elder of the Jiang family and also the head of the Jiang family.
Seeing the arrival of the old man in the linen robe, the Jiang clan leader stood up with a trembling cane, performed the junior salute, and showed a happy face: “Ancestor came out of retreat two days earlier than planned. Has he broken through the peak of the Nascent Soul and entered the God Transformation Realm?”
The old man in the linen robe shook his head and said regretfully: “It is not easy to enter the God Transformation Realm. It’s a pity for those dozen babies. The blood sacrifice did not help my cultivation much. It seems that if I want to break through the God Transformation Realm, I can’t just rely on the blood sacrifice of babies. I have to find other methods.”
The Jiang clan leader’s regret flashed away and said: “Just now, a worshipper passed on the message that the parents of the lost children have spread the news everywhere in Qingcheng and even made a scene in front of the city lord’s mansion. I am afraid it will be difficult to suppress it this time. It is better for the old ancestor to try another method. We have stolen too many babies over the years and some people have already suspected us.”
“Who?”
“It’s a Jindan cultivator named Yuan Wuxing. He’s been trying to sneak in during our ancestral worship for the past few years.”
The old man in the hemp robe scoffed, unconcerned. “It seems he’s noticed the frequency of ancestral worship is similar to the frequency of child loss. He’s captured a cultivator and used him as a blood sacrifice.”
“By the way, since those ignorant women who lost their children are causing trouble, why not capture them and use them in a blood sacrifice together, so they can be reunited with their children?”
“Yes.”
“How touching! Then why don’t you go downstairs and reunite with your parents?”
“Who?” The old man in the hemp robe glared back, trying to determine who had spoken rudely, while rapidly retreating. He hadn’t sensed anyone approaching. Anyone
who could hide from his perception was either a fellow cultivator at the Nascent Soul stage, skilled in concealment spells, or a Divine Transformation cultivator.
He unleashed several spells, each of which was shattered by Jiang Li.
Without a word, Jiang Li slapped the old man across the face, sending him crashing onto the table holding the memorial tablet. The tablet scattering to the floor, and half of the old man’s teeth were shattered.
“You!”
The old man in the hemp robe was astonished. He could sense that Jiang Li, like him, was at the peak of the
Nascent Soul stage, yet his opponent’s movements were so swift he couldn’t react. Jiang Li had fought countless life-and-death battles in his life, and his combat experience was so vast that even if he were to suppress his cultivation to the Golden Core stage, he could still easily defeat the old man in the hemp robe.
Jiang Li remained expressionless and silent, fighting silently. He pinned the old man to the table, punch after punch, each one heavier than the last. He even heard the system notification chime as he did so.
“Congratulations to the host for defeating Jiang Yixing. Newbie mission completed.”
Jiang Li heard the system notification, but without a trace of joy, he continued to pummel Jiang Yixing with the strength of a Nascent Soul stage.
He feared that using even greater force would kill Jiang Yixing outright.
Jiang Li’s spiritual sense scanned the spatial node and immediately recognized the old man in the hemp robe as Jiang Yixing.
However, Jiang Yixing didn’t recognize him as Jiang Li due to his altered appearance.
“Do you know… who I am…? I’m the brother of Jiang Renhuang… Jiang Li…”
Jiang Yixing spoke haltingly, air leaking from his mouth due to half of his teeth missing.
“Really?”
“Jiang Renhuang’s brother!”
“What a pretentious person!”
“Even the Renhuang isn’t as impressive as you!”
“You’re setting up a memorial tablet for yourself!”
“You know you deserve to die, right?”
“Or are you just pretending to be dead?”
Jiang Li was filled with rage. Jiang Yixing had used his name to commit demonic acts, killing countless children, which made him feel responsible for their deaths.
He punched Jiang Yixing with every word, and only stopped when he was bleeding from all seven orifices and unconscious.
Jiang Li picked up the memorial tablet with Jiang Yixing’s name on it and snorted coldly.
“Use the power of ancestral worship to dissipate the resentment of the infant within you. Clever!”
Jiang Li dragged Jiang Yixing by the ankle and led him out. On the way out, Jiang Yixing’s head banged against the doorframe, making a resounding bang. The Jiang family had long heard the commotion in the ancestral hall, and upon seeing Jiang Li’s appearance, they all rushed to kill the thief.
With the exception of a few, the Jiang family had long assumed Jiang Yixing was dead. Unrecognizable to them, they didn’t avoid him when attacking him, and several of his blows landed on him. However, compared to Jiang Li’s fists, these were insignificant, and Jiang Yixing wasn’t dead yet.
Jiang Li blocked all the attacks with his free hand, knocking down the attackers with ease.
“Senior, what are you doing…” Yuan Wuxing followed behind, startled by Jiang Li’s actions. To directly overthrow the Jiang family and capture the culprit was something he hadn’t even considered.
“Of course, we’re going to make this a big deal,” Jiang Li said matter-of-factly.
“Making a big fuss?” Yuan Wuxing was confused as to what Jiang Li was up to. He simply felt that this Daoist master possessed profound magical powers and was unpredictable.
“Otherwise, how can we tell how many people dare to protect the Jiang family? Are they the lords of a city, a prefecture, or even higher up… I want to see how big a fish I can catch this time.” Jiang Li smiled coldly.
It was good that Emperor Zhou didn’t know. If he knew about Jiang Yixing’s actions and concealed them, then don’t blame Jiang Li for not acknowledging him as a friend…
Yuan Wuxing was overwhelmed by what he heard. This was going to be a catastrophe!
“Go call the missing child’s parents and tell them the murderer has been found and is currently on trial at the City Lord’s Mansion.”
“Yes!”
…
The Lord of Qingcheng, whose surname was Zeng, believed his career had been exceptionally smooth. Starting as a minor official, he’d been constantly favored by prominent figures and steadily risen through the ranks. Now, he’d even held the position of Lord of Qingcheng, a position many of his colleagues would desperately strive for. With connections to the Jiang family, while he’d never met the Human Emperor directly, being connected to the Jiang family was like being connected to the Emperor.
After all, several former Lords of Qingcheng now held high positions, the highest of which was even a prefect, a position he envied greatly.
As usual, Lord Zeng was preparing to retire early. It was approaching dusk, and although it wasn’t time to leave work yet, as Lord, leaving half an hour early wouldn’t be a problem.
Just as he was about to rest, one of his men informed him that someone outside had a major case for the City Lord to adjudicate.
City Lord Zeng was displeased. A major case meant it wouldn’t be solved quickly, and his shift would be delayed.
“Go tell that person outside I’m out on business and ask him to come back tomorrow.”
“Sir, according to that person, he’s caught the child’s abductor. It’s none other than Jiang Yixing, the deceased old man of the Jiang family. He’s beaten him unconscious, and the people are rushing in. Our gate is now completely blocked.”
“You idiot! Why didn’t you tell me about this earlier?” City Lord Zeng was horrified. He kicked his reckless subordinate to the ground, quickly straightened his clothes, and sat upright in the main hall.
“Who’s making a commotion outside? Bring them up!” City Lord Zeng sat high in the main hall, his expression solemn and majestic.
Jiang Li strolled into the hall, carrying Jiang Yixing like a chick. Beside him stood the agitated yet trembling Yuan Wuxing. Behind him stood a dozen sobbing parents, kicking and scolding Jiang Yixing. Further back were the crowds watching the excitement.
Great Zhou law explicitly stipulated that local officials’ rulings on cases must be public. City
Lord Zeng, at this moment, deeply resented this law; with so many people watching, it was difficult for him to protect the Jiang family.
