Chapter 562 Retreat

Jiang Li suddenly realized, “I was wondering why the more I wrote about this technique, the more familiar it felt. It turns out it’s the Three Corpse Slaying Technique.”

“It took me a full hour and a half to write a short, concise technique. I thought my technique-writing skills had declined.”

“Well, we don’t usually use the words ‘full’ and ‘an hour and a half’ together,” Taoist Huiming reminded him quietly.

Jiang Li ignored him. “Your Jingyu World’s technique, the ‘Yu Yu Bei Tian Gong,’ is quite powerful. It’s evolved into a cultivation method even used by Dao Ancestors.”

“I think it’s not our technique that’s powerful, but rather that Fellow Daoist Jiang Li is simply too extraordinary,” the Skeleton Demon Lord muttered.

Taoist Huiming gazed at the technique with envy. “While this technique is excellent, it has many limitations on cultivation level, talent, experience, and intelligence. I’m afraid only beings above the Golden Immortal level can possibly practice the Three Corpse Slaying Technique.”

“Slay the Three Corpses… Slay the Three Corpses…” Jiang Li repeated, as if realizing something.

“Kugu, are you still going to stay here?” Taoist Huiming wanted the Demon Lord Kugu to come out. His talent was comparable to his own, and staying here was a waste.

“Don’t try to persuade me. I don’t want to get involved in this. If the Destruction Alliance wanted to summon that Earth Immortal monster, I would have intervened. But now that Fellow Daoist Jiang Li is here, the greatest crisis has been averted, and I have no reason to leave.”

“Huiming, your pursuits differ. You are of the righteous path, seeking the well-being of all people. I am of the demonic path, seeking only to protect my wife and children, a small group of people. We have different paths, so we cannot work together. Even if I come out, I will oppose you. It’s better for me to stay here. It’s better for everyone.”

The Demon Lord Kugu’s response met Taoist Huiming’s expectations. He sighed softly and stopped trying to persuade him.

“But if there’s anything you don’t understand, you can ask me,” the Demon Lord Kugu said before leaving.

“Get lost, you know what I don’t? Why are you pretending to be so big-nosed? When we were studying together before, have you ever been better than me in a test?”

…

“Master, have you studied with the Demon Lord Ku Gu?”

“I was forced to study for a while. I told you before that there were two seniors in the Jingyu world who ascended to become immortals.”

“Yes.”

“After the two seniors ascended, they met a celestial being in the fairy world who was both good and evil. His name was Penglai Xian. He accepted the two seniors as his disciples.”

“Later, Penglai Xian saw that the conflicts between the two were too big, and their minds were impetuous, which was not conducive to their cultivation, so he asked them to return to the lower world and each train a disciple to cultivate their mind. The two seniors accepted Ku Gu and me as their disciples.”

“The two seniors continued to fight with each other. They regarded us as opponents for competition and often taught us together without any reservations, just to prove that their vision of people was better than the other’s.”

“Ku Gu and I were often tested by the two seniors.”

“Later, the Penglai Immortal, seeing that the conflict between the two seniors had almost been resolved, summoned them to the upper realms. After Ku Gu and I completed our apprenticeships, we gradually distinguished ourselves in both the righteous and evil paths.”

“You could say Ku Gu and I are from the same school.”

Returning to Wen Quan’s home, Jiang Li, with a single word, “I’m going into seclusion,” entered his study, remaining silent.

Taoist Hui Ming’s expression was solemn: “It seems Fellow Daoist Jiang Li has made great progress. Retreat is no small matter. It could last from a few years to a hundred years. With Fellow Daoist Jiang Li’s level of cultivation, even a thousand years is possible.”

“A hundred years?” Wen Quan exclaimed. “We only have seventy years of property rights to this house. What if Senior Jiang hasn’t emerged by then?”

Taoist Hui Ming silently observed his disciple.

Was this the point of his master’s words?

Taoist Hui Ming had noticed that Wen Quan’s thinking had become so dynamic since his encounter with Fellow Daoist Jiang Li that even he couldn’t keep up.

Taoist Huiming said to Wen Qing’er, “During your retreat, Fellow Daoist Jiang Li, I will be responsible for your instruction.”

Although he wasn’t optimistic about Wen Qing’er, he still wanted to lend her a helping hand.

The two men and the ghost had already imagined the scene of Jiang Li’s exit: decades later, the bedroom door creaked, dust rustled, and Jiang Li emerged from behind it.

The next evening, Jiang Li stretched, left the bedroom, and joined Wen Quan and the others for dinner.

His retreat was over.

Upon seeing Jiang Li, Wen Quan spat out his porridge, his nose full of it.

Jiang Li looked at Wen Quan with disdain, asking if they could eat.

“Fellow Daoist Jiang Li, are you interrupting your retreat?” Taoist Huiming was astonished to see Jiang Li as if he had seen a ghost.

“My retreat is over.”

“You’ve only been in retreat for thirty hours!”

“Thirty hours isn’t a long time?” Jiang Li felt he had been in retreat for a long time.

“What did you realize? Well, it’s inconvenient to talk about it.” Taoist Huiming realized he shouldn’t be too curious about this matter.

“It’s nothing. I’ll show you a little.” Jiang Li handed over a small booklet.

Taoist Huiming flipped through it, then realized he’d read it wrong, so he read it again.

“Isn’t this technique too simple? Furthermore, the aptitude requirements are too low; anyone with just the five elements can practice it.”

Taoist Huiming felt that this technique was completely out of character with Jiang Li. After all, the previous technique for beheading the three corpses took him and Ku Gu a long time to understand; it was as obscure as a heavenly book.

This booklet, on the other hand, was as simple as a comic strip; anyone with even a little bit of accomplishment in cultivation could understand it.

Jiang Li chuckled, “It’s difficult because I’m afraid they won’t understand it.”

Two and a half months passed quickly. During these two and a half months, Jiang Li supervised Wen Qing’er’s practice while teaching her the most basic knowledge about cultivating immortals.

“How do you refine essence into qi?”

“Spiritual energy combines with yang energy, transforming into a light, intangible, and harmonious combination of essence and qi. Maintaining this abundance and prosperity is constant.” “

The relationship between essence, qi, and spirit?”

“Essence, qi, and spirit are known as the three treasures. When essence is full, qi is abundant, and when qi is full, spirit is vigorous. When essence is deficient, qi is weak, and when qi is deficient, spirit is diminished.”

“Within thirty breaths, let the spiritual energy flow through your meridians, following the route shown in the Spiritual Energy Diagram.”

After thirty breaths, Wen Qing’er had just completed a small circulation.

“Not bad, your current level is qualified to be a mortal in Jiuzhou.” Jiang Li was very satisfied with Wen Qing’er’s progress.

“Since I’m working so hard, can I take a break?” Wen Qing’er did the horse stance with a bitter face. Although she was not tired, she still wanted to rest.

Jiang Li was surprised: “I only let you do the horse stance for an incense stick of time. The time is not up yet, why do you want to rest?”

Wen Qing’er looked down at the electric mosquito coil and said nothing.

“Forget it, then I’ll let you rest for a day.” Jiang Li was not an unreasonable person.

Wen Qing’er sat on the sofa, a little unhappy.

“What’s wrong?”

“Senior Jiang, is my aptitude really that poor?”

Jiang Li asked with a smile, “Why do you say that?”

“I feel like the fourth level of Qi training is like a wall blocking me, and I can’t push it open. I’ve tried to reach the fourth level of Qi training many times according to your teachings, but I’ve failed without exception. The bottleneck hasn’t loosened at all. Will I be stuck at the third level of Qi training in this life?”

Jiang Li didn’t say anything to comfort him, but took out half of the booklet.

“Take a look at this, can you understand it?”
