Chapter 4: Emperor Jiang might be practicing magic

. Jiang Li understood what was going on. To promote their own status, the Jiang family, afraid to directly fabricate a close relationship, had instead hinted at a close relationship.

“You said earlier that the missing child was related to Jiang Renhuang. What’s going on?”

The middle-aged man’s smile faded, his expression serious. He didn’t want to discuss further with Jiang Li. He even unleashed the pressure of a Jindan cultivator, trying to dissuade Jiang Li. In his view, Jiang Li was just a kid at a few Qi training levels.

As a Jindan elder, he needed to dissuade this kid from getting involved in this dangerous situation.

“Don’t talk about this; it’s dangerous for you!”

Unexpectedly, Jiang Li restrained his power to the peak of the Yuanying stage and released the same pressure.

“I’d like to see what dangers lie ahead.”

“Yuan, Yuanying stage…”

It was clear that this incident was related to Jiang Li, and the middle-aged man also misunderstood him. Revealing his true identity would make him even less likely to tell the truth. So Jiang Li chose to disguise himself as a Yuanying cultivator. While not particularly powerful, it was enough to intimidate the middle-aged man.

The middle-aged man quickly saluted, “So you’re a senior in the Nascent Soul stage. It’s Yuan Wuxing who doesn’t recognize you.”

Yuan Wuxing broke out in a cold sweat. Who could have imagined that the man trying to dissuade an indignant teenager on the street was actually in the Nascent Soul stage? He looked like a teenager, but he might actually be a centuries-old demon. While his previous behavior wasn’t impolite, it would be disastrous if this senior was narrow-minded.

In Yuan Wuxing’s eyes, a cultivator in the Nascent Soul stage was already an extremely powerful one. There were only a few in Qingcheng, and the City Lord of Qingcheng was only in the early Nascent Soul stage.

“Alright, I don’t mean to blame you. Now, can we talk about the missing child?”

Jiang Libin asked calmly, removing his intimidating gaze.

After some hesitation, Yuan Wuxing finally said, “Senior, can you swear to heaven that this matter will not be spread?”

The path of cultivation emphasizes conformity to the laws of nature, so swearing to heaven is no small matter. Most cultivators believe that breaking an oath will bring about the punishment promised.

Without hesitation, Jiang Li extended two fingers and declared solemnly, “I swear to heaven, no one else will know what Yuan Wuxing tells me next. If anyone

breaks this promise, they will face the Immortal Tribulation!” Yuan Wuxing stood in awe. This was a severe punishment. Breaking this oath would result in the Immortal Tribulation, a sure death for a Nascent Soul cultivator.

Of course, he didn’t know that Jiang Li was eager to endure the Immortal Tribulation several more times.

“Senior, please come to my humble abode for a while.”

Yuan Wuxing invited Jiang Li back home and expertly set up several layers of formations. After a moment’s thought, he gritted his teeth, crushed a piece of precious jade, and set up another formation that even a Nascent Soul cultivator couldn’t detect.

Yuan Wuxing brewed a pot of his prized tea, pouring a cup for Jiang Li first, then for himself.

“The story begins ten years ago. Ten years ago, I was already at the peak of the Golden Core stage, and I was only one thin layer away from breaking through to the Nascent Soul stage. However, I spent twenty years with no clue how to break through. I wanted to come to Qingcheng to find inspiration for a breakthrough.”

“I had just arrived in Qingcheng when I found out someone had lost a child. I like helping people, so I wanted to help them. But when I checked, I found that the story was not that simple. It was horrifying. It wasn’t just the recent disappearances. Qingcheng and several nearby cities had been losing children for over two hundred years, and most of them were babies under one year old!”

“I also found that the time when the children were lost was very close to the time when the Jiang family worshipped their ancestors. The more frequently the Jiang family worshipped their ancestors, the more frequently the children were lost. So I investigated the Jiang family and found that it was indeed the Jiang family who stole the children. I overheard the conversation between the head of the Jiang family and the city lord. The Jiang family colluded with the successive city lords of Qingcheng to suppress the matter of the lost children. At first, the Qingcheng Mansion sent people to pretend to look for the children, but in the past two years, they simply stopped pretending and said that they didn’t have enough manpower and would not look anymore! A bunch of bastards!”

When Yuan Wuxing said this, the veins on his forehead bulged, and he crushed the teacup with force.

“The Jiang family has the Human Emperor backing them. If I rashly tell anyone about this, it won’t be the Jiang family who’ll suffer, but me!”

“We must find concrete evidence and make it public. That way, even if the Human Emperor himself arrives, he won’t be able to stop the gossip!”

Jiang Li was silent for a moment, then asked, “What does the Jiang family want these babies for?”

“That…” Yuan Wuxing hesitated. “…I don’t know. Maybe they’re refining them into magical instruments.”

Jiang Li stared into Yuan Wuxing’s eyes, his voice stern. “You’re lying! What are you afraid of?”

Yuan Wuxing’s scalp tingled under his gaze. “Senior, this matter truly cannot be spoken of. Whoever reveals it will die!”

Jiang Li pulled a jade token from his storage ring. “Dao Zong” was inscribed on the front, while a rotating Tai Chi pattern swirled on the back. The entire piece of jade was seamless, not carved, but rather a work of nature.

“What now?”

Yuan Wuxing stared at the token with wide eyes, his lips trembling. He felt both the fear of meeting a powerful figure and the excitement of seeing the dawn.

“Dao Zong Token! Are you a Dao Zong Walking Master?!”

Seeing this token was like seeing the Dao Zong Master himself.

Those who possessed it were either at the Tribulation Crossing Stage or Dao Zong Walking Masters. Rumor had it that no more than five of them existed, and the Nascent Soul senior before him clearly belonged to the latter.

This wasn’t the centuries-old freak he’d imagined, but a prodigy who had reached the Nascent Soul stage at around twenty!

Jiang Li nodded. “I remain true to my name and surname. I’m the current Dao Zong Walking Master, Zhang Li.” Jiang

Li improvised a name and identity, hoping that given his relationship with the Dao Zong Master, he wouldn’t blame him.

“So you’re a Dao Zong Walking Master? I even asked you to swear an oath. This…this…this…”

Yuan Wuxing’s excited speech was incoherent. A Dao Zong Walking Master was the guaranteed successor to the Dao Zong, a future top-tier cultivator. As the oldest sect, the Dao Zong had even outlived the Human Emperor Palace. With its frequent immortals and profound heritage, it was a rare force unafraid of the Human Emperor Palace.

Of course, all of this presupposes the elimination of Jiang Li, the most powerful Human Emperor of all time.

With the Daoist Master involved, the chances of bringing down the Jiang family are even greater!

Yuan Wuxing’s face was filled with joy, silently reciting the Heart-Clearing Technique several times before he managed to calm down.

“I didn’t dare to speak because I was afraid of implicating Senior Zhang. The Human Emperor Jiang might very well kill you and me. But since Senior Zhang is a Daoist Master, he’s probably not afraid of the Human Emperor.”

“Jiang Renhuang…maybe he’s practicing the devil!”

Yuan Wuxing lowered his voice, as if the Renhuang would hear him if he spoke any louder.

He looked at Jiang Li, expecting to see an expression of fear or shock on his face, but he seemed completely unconcerned, even smiling faintly.
