Chapter 2: Leaving home young and returning old, everyone in the world knows you

The Human Emperor, revered throughout the Nine Provinces, holds a supreme position. One of his responsibilities is to mediate between the various factions, preventing a deadly conflict between immortal cultivators and the devastation of the people.

At the pinnacle of cultivation, a single thought can overturn mountains and seas. If two peak cultivators were to fight to the death, the devastation they would bring to the Nine Provinces is unimaginable.

Historically, this happened. When the Old Emperor died and the new Human Emperor had yet to emerge, a conflict arose between the Ancient Sect and the Imperial Dynasty, escalating into an irreconcilable conflict. The two sides engaged in relentless warfare, sweeping across half of the Nine Provinces. Anyone who dared intervene was annihilated by the combined forces of the Ancient Sect and the Imperial Dynasty.

It wasn’t until the new Human Emperor, Jiang Li, ascended to the throne and, carrying the wishes of all living beings, slew the head of the Ancient Sect and the ruler of the Imperial Dynasty, that the Nine Provinces’ bloody catastrophe was finally quelled.

The Nine Provinces were plagued by numerous dynasties and sects, competing and mutually reinforcing each other. This was the policy established by the First Human Emperor and the result of repeated deductions by successive Human Emperors.

Immortal cultivators have both a desire for immortality and a fierce and aggressive side. Simply suppressing them is not a long-term solution; they need to be given a path to strive. Therefore, the Human Emperor Palace does not suppress other factions; instead, it provides various forms of support and encourages competition. It is precisely for this

reason that Kyushu has a constant stream of talented individuals. It is also for this reason that Kyushu has such a large number of nations.

Thousands of small states and nine great dynasties form the basic structure of the continent.

Only those with a long and enduring fortune can be called great dynasties.

Jiang Li’s hometown lies in the Great Zhou Dynasty, a humble town nestled in a plain, devoid of scenic beauty and mineral resources. If it weren’t for Jiang Li’s hometown, even the people of the Great Zhou Dynasty wouldn’t have known of its existence.

In Jiang Li’s memory, the strongest person in that small county was only at the Foundation Establishment stage.

And Jiang Yixing, who once had the potential to break through to the Golden Core stage, was naturally considered a remarkable genius.

Jiang

Li stood at the city gate, staring blankly at Qingcheng, which bore no resemblance to his memory.

The once small, moss-covered Qingcheng had vanished, replaced by towering walls of refined steel and stone, and gates wide enough for exotic beasts of all sizes to enter at leisure.

Young knights roamed the martial arts world, parents brought their children to bask in the spiritual energy of the Human Emperor, and cultivators sought the Emperor’s blessing to break through bottlenecks. All these factors had transformed the humble Qingcheng into a city of understated significance from the moment Jiang Li ascended to the Human Emperor’s throne.

Even the gatekeepers were cultivators in the Jindan stage.

As a result, the city gate was bustling with activity.

Upon entering Qingcheng, the first thing one saw was a massive bronze statue of a man, imposing and imposing, wielding a long halberd, his gaze fixed on the surroundings, like a god surveying the mortal world.

It was none other than the Human Emperor, Jiang Li.

Jiang Li had expected to return home, only to be greeted with a smile, his face, unrecognizable from the bronze statue, as he wore only a straw hat.

But reality proved to be undeniable, as the bronze statue was surrounded by a crowd of worshippers. Jiang Li could sense the power of faith emanating from it, and quickly transformed his appearance with a magical spell. “Excuse

me, where is the Jiang family?” Jiang Li asked a random person.

The man looked quite elderly, walking slowly.

Of course, Jiang Li was actually older.

“Young man, you’re from out of town, right? Everyone in Qingcheng knows that the Jiang family is in the very heart of the city, right next to the City Lord’s Mansion,” the old man said with a smile, pointing. “That’s right over there.”

The old man’s accent was thick, difficult for non-locals to understand, but Jiang Li, a native of Qingcheng, was not a problem.

“I heard that the Jiang family used to be a small clan, located in a corner of Qingcheng. After Emperor Jiang ascended the throne, cultivators flocked here to investigate his rise to power. The Jiang family seized the opportunity, capitalizing on their strength and quickly becoming the largest clan in Qingcheng.”

“Although the Jiang family didn’t move their mansion, as Qingcheng expanded, their location gradually became the most central.”

The old man glanced around, and seeing the large crowd around, he pulled Jiang Li to a corner and whispered, “Rumor has it that the Jiang family controls all of Qingcheng, even deciding who becomes city lord.”

“The Great Zhou Dynasty governs by law, so how could such a situation exist?”

Jiang Li shook his head, dismissing the old man’s claims.

The Great Zhou royal family had mastered the ways of time, able to trace back time and reveal the truth about anything. He had seen the rulers of the previous and current generations of the Great Zhou strictly adhere to the law, never overstepping their bounds. Following the example of their superiors, their subordinates were expected to follow suit.

Jiang Li had also traveled through the Great Zhou, experiencing its customs and people. He had also had disputes with local powerful figures. When the government intervened to resolve disputes, it always ruled based on the facts, without bias based on the individual’s local power.

Of the nine dynasties, only the Great Zhou was unique, tying national destiny to law and governing the country by law. If the monarch knew someone had violated the law but failed to punish them, the nation’s destiny would be affected. In serious cases, the fate of the nation could even crush the monarch to death!

The other dynasties valued the use of force, and the law could be trampled upon at will, either overtly or covertly.

He believed that the Jiang family could influence the city lord, but to say that anyone could be appointed as the city lord was unreasonable.

Seeing the old man’s knowledge, Jiang Li continued, “Is the Jiang family’s ancestor, Jiang Yixing, still alive? What’s his cultivation level?”

“I don’t know,” the old man shook his head. “But if you want to visit the Jiang family, it’s best to wait two days. It’s the Jiang family’s ancestral worship day recently. The mansion is closed for nine days, and no outsiders are allowed. Today is the seventh day.”

“I didn’t expect to encounter the ancestral worship ceremony that happens only once every ten years. I don’t know if this is good luck or bad.” Jiang Li chuckled. The Jiang family did have a tradition of ancestral worship, which took place every ten years. His original owner died at the age of eighteen and had only experienced it once.

The old man looked at Jiang Li strangely and said slowly, “I heard from the older generation that the Jiang family originally held ancestral worship every ten years. Since Emperor Jiang Renhuang ascended the throne three hundred years ago, ancestral worship has become more frequent, from ten years to five years, and now to once a year.”

The old man asked respectfully, “Senior, your cultivation level…”

To live three hundred years, he must have reached at least the Nascent Soul stage.

Jiang Li smiled faintly and didn’t respond to the old man’s question. Instead, he thanked him and walked down the road to the Jiang family mansion.

The Jiang family closed the door tightly and activated the formation, which was indeed a sign of closing the house and worshiping their ancestors.

Despite the protective formations and the presence of several Jindan-stage cultivators guarding the perimeter, Jiang Li could still easily enter.

As the Emperor of Jiang, he would naturally be welcomed by the entire Jiang family, but Jiang Li had no desire to do so. He had never had a favorable impression of the Jiang family. Five hundred years after leaving the Jiang family, he had never returned. Even so, the Jiang family still had the nerve to bully and abuse their power in Qingcheng, completely oblivious to how they had once neglected and bullied the original owner of this body.

Now that he had reappeared, the Jiang family would be thrilled to the heavens, seizing the opportunity to publicize his presence.

Jiang Li casually cast a concealing spell and swaggered into the Jiang family.
