We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real? - Chapter 13
Chapter 13 Wishful Thinking
The Third and Fourth Princes stood on the banks of the River of Time. The air was thick with vapor, condensed from time itself. Even with their current cultivation, it was difficult for them to stand there.
They walked upstream together. The River of Time was vast and mighty, each drop of water representing a period of time in a certain area. Trying to find a specific drop of water within the River of Time was a pipe dream. Fortunately, they were in Qingcheng, and the geographical advantage of the area made locating the drop much easier. They eventually located a drop from ten days ago and witnessed Clan Leader Jiang and City Lord Zeng plotting to sabotage the time-space node under cover of darkness.
They continued upstream and found the drop of time where Jiang Yixing had sacrificed a child. However, their limited magical powers could only see events from three years ago; further back was difficult to discern.
During those three years, Jiang Yixing had sacrificed children year after year, advancing from the late Nascent Soul stage to the peak of the Nascent Soul stage. The pile of bones beside the altar spoke volumes.
It was clear that Jiang Yixing practiced the devil’s way, and that Clan Leader Jiang and City Lord Zeng had conspired to conceal the evidence.
From the moment they entered the River of Time, external time froze for them. Therefore, to everyone, the two princes disappeared and reappeared instantly, without even a moment’s delay.
“I’ve investigated this matter. Jiang Yixing did not practice the devil’s way, and City Lord Zeng did not destroy the evidence. Are you two satisfied with this conclusion?” The Third Prince stood in mid-air, looking down at Jiang Li and Yuan Wuxing. The Fourth Prince stood aside, silent.
As the supervisor, silence implied agreement with the Third Prince’s words.
As soon as the Third Prince spoke, Clan Leader Jiang and the others knew the matter was settled. They began to plot revenge on Jiang Li and Yuan Wuxing. These two had nearly brought them to their deaths. They couldn’t appease their hatred without torturing them and then killing them.
Jiang Li pointed at the slightly trembling black-robed figure in a relaxed tone. “Whether we’re satisfied or not is not important, but I’m afraid this brother doesn’t agree with the conclusion you’ve given.”
Seeing the black-robed figure showing signs of anger, Yuan Wuxing quickly hid behind Jiang Li.
Clinging to someone’s influence is not shameful.
“You two disgraceful fellows, get off my feet!”
A vast and domineering aura, centered on the black-robed figure, swept in all directions. Among those present were many Divine Transformation cultivators, yet it was impossible to tell the depth of the aura’s owner.
A familiar voice echoed in the ears of the two princes, like thunderclaps from a clear sky, startling them so much that they nearly lost control of their spiritual energy and fell to the ground.
Fortunately, both reacted quickly, landing in front of the black-robed figure and kneeling neatly.
“Your son pays homage to your father,”
Zhou Huangjizhi sneered, lifting her hood. “So you still respect me, your father.”
Seeing this, everyone quickly knelt, chanting “Long live your father!” Yuan Wuxing hesitated, then knelt as well.
The Jiang clan leader and the others kneeling on the ground trembled with fear, their backs running cold. Why was the emperor here? Why was he standing on Zhang Li’s side? Why was his tone so hostile?
All signs indicated that things were developing in a direction that was not favorable to them.
Aside from Princess Zhou, only Jiang Li was left standing in the room. Everyone was puzzled, but no one dared to speak. The Third Prince felt guilty and wanted to take the initiative to divert the Emperor Zhou’s attention.
“How dare you, Zhang Li, not kneel when you see your father!”
“Shut up! Isn’t that shameful enough?” Princess Zhou roared. The Third Prince was so frightened that he dared not speak immediately. He turned to the crowd and said, “Stand up.”
“Let me ask you, what exactly did you see in the long river of time?” Princess Zhou asked.
The third prince hesitated and said nothing. The fourth prince felt less afraid and replied, “Father, there are too many people here. Could you let me report after I go back?”
“There is nothing shameful. Just say it here, in front of everyone. I don’t remember teaching you to be evasive and secretive every day!”
The fourth prince hesitated for a moment and said, “My third brother and I saw Jiang Yixing sacrificing children to practice magic. Clan leader Jiang and City Lord Zeng colluded with each other to cover up the evidence.”
“Why are you lying? Do you know that once you let Jiang Yixing go, these two will fall into endless revenge, and by then even their bodies may not be left behind?” Princess Zhou pointed at Yuan Wuxing who was kneeling on the ground and Jiang Li who was watching the show, as if Jiang Li was really only in the Nascent Soul stage.
“I was concerned that this matter would implicate Emperor Jiang Ren, and would be detrimental to the country and Emperor Jiang Ren. For
the greater good, I chose to conceal it.” “You’re so concerned about the greater good, but you don’t realize that Fourth Prince’s perspective surpasses mine.” Emperor Zhou Jizhi sneered. “Tell me, what perspective led you to do something that would harm the fate of the nation?”
The Fourth Prince unloaded everything he knew and speculated.
“The Human Emperor practices the magic path, and you inferred this? This imaginary portrayal of Emperor Jiang Ren’s behavior is completely distorted by the facts.”
The Fourth Prince, desperate, spoke out, saying something he normally wouldn’t dare say: “Father, how can you be so sure that Emperor Jiang Ren doesn’t practice the magic path?”
Having falsified the time travel, the Third Prince, knowing that he had no chance of the throne from that day forward, chimed in, “Jiang Yixing is the Human Emperor’s cousin. How could he, Jiang Yixing, dare to practice the magic path without the Emperor’s permission?”
“How can I be so sure? Because Emperor Jiang Ren personally arrested Jiang Yixing and brought him to trial!” Emperor Zhou Jizhi was so angry at his two foolish sons’ remarks that he laughed.
The truth would have been revealed had they simply consulted him, but his two foolish sons insisted on making rash decisions in an area they were unfamiliar with.
“Emperor Jiang Ren believes that the Great Zhou is a country ruled by law, and that all crimes will be brought to justice. But what have you done? You’ve deceived your superiors, formed cliques, and resorted to every possible means to cover up Jiang Yixing’s case. Do you know that Emperor Jiang Ren has been watching our Great Zhou’s monkey show for ten whole days?”
Emperor Ji Zhi practically roared his last words. The Xiezhi, the immortal beast embodied by the nation’s destiny, loomed and roared silently. The Third and Fourth Princes had never seen their father so enraged.
Wait, Emperor Jiang Ren arrested Jiang Yixing?
Everyone suddenly realized that Emperor Zhou’s words seemed to contain a great deal of information.
“Brother Ji, calm down. The events of the past few days are worth reflecting on. I’m not treating them as a joke. If the person requesting the time travel request wasn’t me, but an ordinary person, would they have been treated this way? Brother Ji, we still have a long way to go in governing our country according to law,” Jiang Li sighed.
When he revealed his true face, exclamations of surprise erupted one after another.
People were in awe of Princess Zhou and in respect of the Human Emperor Jiang Li.
The people of Qingcheng were all too familiar with this face; bronze statues of it could be seen upon entering the city.
The Third Prince froze in place, his thoughts of refuting his father vanishing into thin air.
Yuan Wuxing’s abilities made it impossible for him to discover Jiang Yixing. The fact that Jiang Li had captured Jiang Yixing and sent him to the authorities proved that Jiang Li had no prior knowledge of the matter and had never practiced the Way of Magic.
It turned out that keeping the Emperor Jiang a secret was just wishful thinking on his part.
