Chapter 901: Angel’s tragic victory

. Dante’s consciousness drifted in the void for an untold amount of time. He dreamed of lying at the bottom of a pool of blood, countless pairs of rotting hands dragging him toward the abyss.

Those hands belonged to the fallen Blood Angels and countless more mortals. Their heads emerged from the viscous blood, their faces, gnawed by the swarm, roaring silently, as if cursing and questioning him.

He knelt at the edge of the pool, tears streaming down his face, repenting and apologizing profusely.

Only when a cool breath pierced his chest did he snap his eyelids open.

“Great! You’re awake.”

Dante could hear the surprise in the voice.

It was his battle-brother, the Blood Angels’ apothecary.

He was, of course, familiar with his own medical officer.

However, there was someone beside him whom he didn’t recognize.

Yet, he looked… familiar.

The familiarity stemmed primarily from his camouflage, the blood-red livery that matched the Blood Angels’.

If there were any differences, it was that he was a head taller than the average Space Marine. This height went beyond individual variation.

Furthermore, the emblem on his shoulder, unlike the Blood Angels, was a scythe-shaped one.

Dante spoke slowly, “I don’t recall any Blood Angel descendant bearing this symbol. Could this strange Battle-Brother, could you please answer the questions of an old, confused man?”

He called himself confused, but he wasn’t truly confused.

Dante could vaguely sense a sense of shared blood from the towering Space Marine. This made him almost certain that he was a blood brother, a descendant of Saint Gerard.

But it was only a feeling.

Dante wasn’t completely confused. He knew every Blood Angel Chapter by heart. Whether they met their end, destruction, disappearance, or betrayal, he remembered them all.

But he simply couldn’t remember this symbol.

Furthermore, his unusual size also puzzled Dante.

As he gently questioned him, he quietly lowered his hand, preparing to reach for the weapon at his waist.

He had always kept a small knife hidden there.

But he couldn’t find it.

His armor had been completely stripped away, leaving him completely n*ked, making it impossible to hide any small knife.

Moreover, something was wrong with his body.

First, he felt extremely weak, and the mere act of reaching behind him was excruciatingly painful.

He recalled the events before he lost consciousness: surrounded by enemies, he fought relentlessly. He had slain countless enemies, including Hive Tyrants and Executioner Tyrants.

However, he was ultimately unable to withstand the endless siege. The wounds accumulated, and eventually, his consciousness completely faded, leaving him fighting only on instinct.

He could not remember anything after that.

He had thought himself dead.

Now, it seemed he had been saved, but the wounds would take time to fully heal.

But beyond the weakness, he also felt a special power pulsing through his body.

This power was rapidly repairing his body, yet it felt so unfamiliar.

“Please don’t move,” the unfamiliar battle-brother spoke. “You still have three Zerg carapaces lodged in your chest, and your right lung is completely carbonized. You need to rest. Once this bottle of strengthening potion is finished, you can undergo another surgery before you’re out of danger.”

“As for your previous question, I can answer it. I’m Yoren Sosa, the Chief Apothecary of the Crimson Blades. Our Chapter was founded during the Fourth Dark Side Founding, and its history is relatively short, only twenty-three years. However, we’ve received continuous requests for assistance from our parent group, and we’ve rushed to support them…”

The Crimson Blades Apothecary, calling himself Sosa, explained a lot, but Dante became increasingly confused.

Crimson Scythe? Never heard of it.

Shouldn’t the parent chapter be notified when a Successor Chapter is established?

What is the Dark Side Founding?

It’s only been around for twenty-three years? Twenty-three years ago, the Empire held a founding ceremony for the Successor Chapters of the Holy Blood?

Hadn’t the Scarlet Scars torn the Empire in two? In twenty-three years, the Empire could have a new Chapter, one that would support the Dark Side?

He had so many questions.

“Wait until you recover, then I’ll hear your story,” Sosa urged.

“No, I need to know the truth.”

As they stared at each other, Sosa gave way to the legendary hero of the Empire.

He recounted the details of the reinforcements’ experience.

They were from the Fourth Dark Side Founding, that was for sure. The so-called Dark Side Founding originated from the creation of Space Marine Chapters using the collected gene-seed library authorized by Gu Hang, the Dark Archon, the Imperial High Lord, and the Great Leader of the Alliance.

Now, the Dark Side Crusade had reached the Hexiang Realm, where the Blood Angels were located.

Upon receiving the Blood Angels’ call for assistance, they immediately rushed to the battlefield.

Even Gu Hang himself, out of his deep concern for the Blood Angels, personally arrived on the battlefield.

However, by the time the main force of the Alliance’s southern expeditionary force arrived, the war between the Blood Angels and the massive Hive’s tentacle fleet had already reached its final stages.

The Blood Angels and their descendants were on the verge of defeat.

Twenty-one thousand Blood Angel scions, along with countless mortal armies, fought valiantly, suffering heavy casualties and sacrifices, depleting the Hive’s vital forces to the brink of collapse.

However, due to limited manpower, it seemed the Blood Angels would be the first to perish before the Hive’s vital forces were completely annihilated.

Once the Hive had completed this slaughter, it would immediately acquire a vast amount of biomass—the quantity being secondary; the most terrifying aspect was its exceptional quality.

After a brief period of recovery, the Hive could recover half or even more of its size. Even more terrifying, the top Hive creatures within would be even more powerful, both in combat power and numbers, becoming a far more formidable foe than they had been during the invasion of the Hades System.

From this perspective, the Alliance’s arrival was timely.

They intervened, providing the Blood Angels with much-needed manpower and a respite. They also brought a large amount of supplies and equipment, allowing the Blood Angels, who were nearly depleted of ammunition and food, to regain some strength.

The Alliance’s advance fleet and the remnants of the Blood Angels managed to survive the most critical period.

Then, the Alliance’s main southern force, led by Gu Hang, descended upon the battlefield.

The Zerg, already on the verge of collapse, finally collapsed.

They admitted defeat and began to retreat, but were pursued and ultimately annihilated, including the Queen.

This was the greatest victory over the Void Zerg in Imperial history, and the manner of victory was unique: through arduous and bloody battles, the Zerg were driven to the point of exhaustion and utter destruction.

“So, we are victorious, Chapter Master,” Sosa said, his eyes filled with reverence.

But Dante couldn’t smile.

“How much did we lose?”

His voice sounded like sandpaper scraping against metal.

When his own pharmacist began to report the number of casualties, he raised his hand to stop him: “Just tell me how many angels are left who can stand up.”

“There are 4,721 left. Of those, no more than 3,000 can still fight.”

This is the remaining part of the 21,000 Blood Angels.
