Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 896
Chapter 889: Resurrection of the Son of God (Part 1)
Gu Hang observed that the expeditionary force that had arrived at Super Star had already made contact with the Infinite Legion.
The situation appeared favorable, with Gu Jing and his companions receiving courteous hospitality on Super Star.
This was, in fact, more than simple.
If only the Great Sage, the Black Crusaders, the Inquisitors, the Living Saint, and Gu Jing had arrived at Super Star and received such courtesy, it would be par for the course. They
were all renowned and prestigious figures within the Human Empire, representing powerful factions. They had no conflicts with the Infinite Legion and had even collaborated before. Even the youngest among them, Gu Jing, while perhaps not particularly renowned, had a father whose reputation resonated throughout the galaxy. Furthermore, Gu Hang held a debt of gratitude to the Infinite Legion during the Iron Armor War—one of their companies had participated in the battle and, when the Northern Legion collapsed, was stranded on the surface of a planet and rescued by the Alliance.
These connections were all significant.
In this dark age of cataclysm, when communication with the outside world has become difficult, the arrival of such a group of friends warrants a proper reception.
Even if these friends requested an audience with the Son of God, it wouldn’t be impossible to discuss.
While the Infinite Chapter rarely allows anyone other than Space Marines of Infinite blood to view the Son of God’s remains, only at special and important ceremonies, under strict Chapter security, would a very small number of outsiders be permitted to see him.
Still, with such a group of friends, it’s not impossible to discuss.
It would be even easier if they weren’t accompanied by a group of xenomorphs.
In reality, Maeve Nel, Arielian, and the others who accompanied them to Superstar Sea had already caused considerable trouble.
Incestuous dealings with xenomorphs are a grave sin! If they
didn’t wield their bolters to annihilate the xenomorphs, and instead walked side by side, even if the matter was brought to the attention of the Anti-Xenomorph Order, it would be unacceptable!
If the presence of such distinguished figures as Living Saints, Great Sages, and Grand Inquisitors hadn’t been present, the Infinite Legion might have attacked the very first moment they met.
It’s also worth mentioning that among the many alien races the Imperium has encountered, the Eldar are relatively “friendly” to the Imperium.
Of course, this “friendly” isn’t truly friendly. Under the Imperium’s broader policy, all aliens must be exterminated. However, if one were to prioritize, the white-skinned Eldar would be relatively low on the list. While wars and conflicts have flared between the two sides throughout Imperial history, their numbers are pitifully small compared to those of other alien races. In fact, many recorded and classified historical records show that Eldar armies have, for unknown reasons, assisted human forces on numerous occasions.
Their assistance to humanity, even compared to their conflicts with humanity, is roughly evenly split.
Furthermore, the Eldar were communicable, relatively “civilized,” eschewing gore and gore. They possessed artistic achievements, and their aesthetics were similar to those of humans…
Even in superficial appearance, the Eldar were the most human-like of all non-human races. Aside from their pointed ears, they were even considered handsome and beautiful, according to human standards.
Of course, there were still significant differences in their internal anatomy. But if we were to talk about anatomy… the differences between Space Marines and ordinary humans were also immense, so wouldn’t they still be considered human?
The uniqueness of the Eldar, coupled with the uniqueness of the visiting guests, finally eased the Infinite Legion’s doubts. They reluctantly listened to Archmagos Cawl’s speech about “sixty years lost in the Warp,” “survivors of the Battle of Cartier,” and “these Eldar had once aided the Imperium,” accepting them as guests.
But if that were all, their willingness to treat these Eldar as mere guests was already the limit. No matter what, the Infinite Legion would never allow an alien race to meet their father.
Unless these aliens claimed they possessed a method to save the Son of God.
On their own, they would surely disbelieve them. But with the endorsement of the Great Sage, the Living Saint, and the Grand Inquisitor, it was a different story.
Their willingness to offer the aliens a guarantee was enough to make the Infinite Marines skeptical.
Making deals with the aliens, accepting their help, utilizing their technology… none of this constituted “loyalty.” Under normal circumstances, the Infinite Marines would never do so.
However, breaking these “rules” in order to resurrect the Son of God was another matter entirely.
It’s true that the Space Marines were created by the Emperor during the Great Crusade that founded the Imperium, and that they were modeled after the Emperor himself.
But this was somewhat one-sided.
The Emperor was so great that inheriting his genetic template, even in its infinitely degraded form, was extremely difficult.
Therefore, the Emperor first created eighteen children, true descendants of his genetic template, and thus became known as the Sons of God.
The Emperor then used the templates of these eighteen Sons of God to create eighteen Space Marine Legions.
The Space Marines of these eighteen Legions thus considered the source of their genetic templates to be their “father.
” “Father” is used in a broad, conceptual sense, but also in a biological sense.
After the alteration of their gene-seed, the Space Marines’ genes differed significantly from their mortal fathers; biologically, the Sons of God were undoubtedly their fathers.
The genetic father of the Infinite Legions was naturally Robert the Son of God.
Ten thousand years ago, Robert the Son of God was mortally wounded by a powerful Daemon Prince in battle and near death. To preserve his life, the Son of God was placed in a stasis field.
Within the stasis field, time stood still, and the Son of God was frozen in the moment of his death.
Should the stasis field cease, or the Son of God be removed, death would follow.
The present era marks the Emperor’s ascension and the retirement of all the Sons of God. As the only Son of God whose whereabouts are known, Robert is quite special.
When Robert was first trapped in the stasis field, neither the Imperium nor humanity had yet accustomed themselves to life without the Emperor and the Son of God. For countless years, all parties frantically tried to revive the Son of God.
But nothing worked.
All treatments were only theoretical, not guaranteed. And how could unreliable methods be used? Once the Son of God emerged from the stasis field, he would die within moments.
And so it dragged on, until now.
The enthusiasm for saving the Son of God had long since passed, and the Imperium had long since grown accustomed to mortal rule. Would the High Lords agree to place another Son of God on their heads?
It would be best if things continued like this.
But for the Infinite Warriors, it wasn’t.
If they could resurrect the Gene Father, it would absolutely make all the Infinite Warriors’ descendants and countless descendants ecstatic!
Even if this was alien technology, as long as it could truly resurrect the Son of God, it wouldn’t be unacceptable.
Besides, it wasn’t completely alien technology, was it?
The Chapter’s Technical Sergeant and Librarian had examined the item called the “Armor of Destiny” that the Archsage had brought out. It was incredibly sophisticated and appeared to be capable of bringing the Son of God back to life.
However, the matter was too grave, and the Infinite Warriors hesitated to make a decision lightly.
They repeatedly debated the feasibility of the matter.
If they couldn’t guarantee a foolproof outcome, the Infinite Warriors preferred to proceed as it was.
At least the father could still sit within the stasis field, and everyone could come to pay their respects and pay their respects on holidays.
If the resurrection failed, no blue-blooded descendant could endure the grief of seeing their genetic father die before their eyes. Just thinking about that scene would bring on a wave of grief.
Deliberation was certainly necessary, and Cawl urged patience.
Despite this, the Eldar were visibly growing anxious.
Mevnir met with others repeatedly, claiming she sensed an increasingly imminent threat.
The enemies of Chaos would not sit idly by and watch the Son of God resurrect; their threat was looming. It was best to act quickly before the threat arose.
Unexpectedly, Evan Theriot, the Chief Librarian of the Infinite Chapter, expressed support.
He claimed to have witnessed this scene during a psychic prophecy. He believed in his prophecy, and in the technology of the Eldar and the Archsages, that they could ultimately successfully revive their Gene-Father.
However, Nero Claudius, the Grand Master of the Infinite Chapter, remained hesitant and refused the request.
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust his Librarian, but the matter was too grave.
He even considered contacting and rallying more Infinite Chapters; he needed further advice.
Essentially, he was overly concerned with the consequences.
He wanted to revive his father, but he was even more afraid of losing him.
…
From the Storm Kingdom, Gu Hang, using his son as a bridge and eyes to observe the situation on the Super Star, couldn’t help but sigh.
Whether it was the Eldar or the think tank director, the threat they spoke of wasn’t a figment of their imagination, but a very real one.
Gu Hang could already see a powerful demonic army en route to the Super Sea Star.
They had arrived from the real universe, originating from the Scarlet Scar. The demonic fleet had bypassed every other location along the way, using the warp surges of the Cataclysm to bypass all others, heading straight for the Super Sea Star.
Furthermore, they had come from the Warp, with a massive demonic army accompanying them in the Warp.
This force, even if it were to invade the Alliance, would be a formidable challenge for Gu Hang.
It was almost as if the Great Wall defenses constructed by the Northern Front had faced the largest demonic invasion in the century-long Dark Side Crusade.
However, the Alliance’s northern front was supported by the entire core territory of the Alliance’s heartland. If the battle reached a stalemate, powerful troops would immediately rush north from the Alliance’s homeland to support it. Even without sending troops to the western, southern, and eastern fronts, they would prioritize holding the northern defenses.
Four fully staffed Chapters were stationed there, with an additional ten Chapters each providing a company that rotated through the northern front. There were over 5,000 Space Marines alone, not to mention all the other troops.
While the Northern Front didn’t directly expand territory, it served as a defensive line outside the Spider Web Universe. If it were breached, the enemy would be driven straight into the Alliance’s economic heartland. Gu Hang was not willing to bear the consequences of such a loss. A breach in the Northern Front’s defenses would expose the Spider Web Universe to the ravages of war, a loss even more unbearable than the annihilation of an entire front.
Compared to the Alliance’s Northern Front, the Infinite Chapter was truly renowned, a founding chapter with a history spanning ten thousand years, boasting countless elites. The Super Star was also their home, cultivated for millennia and heavily fortified.
And unlike many other chapters, the Infinite Chapter was deeply committed to managing their own planet, the entire Infinite Star Domain, and even the Universe. It seemed they inherited this gene from their Gene Father, known in Imperial mythology for his exceptional ability at governing internal affairs. Their home was likely the most prosperous and peaceful star region in the Empire, save for the Solar Star Domain, before the Cataclysm.
Their immense political influence allowed them to summon support from across the five hundred worlds of the Infinite Star Region at any moment. Whether it was the defense forces of each world, the Astra Militarum, or the various sub-clan groups stationed across the five hundred worlds, they would all respond to the call of their mother group and come to defend their shared homeland and their common father.
Despite these numerous advantages, Gu Hang still worried for the Infinite Warriors facing such an onslaught.
However, there wasn’t much he could do. His forces were difficult to deploy there, and the Alliance’s forces were even less likely to support the Infinite Warriors across the Scarlet Scar.
He could only send a message to his son, clearly informing him of the approaching demon army.
Upon receiving the news, Gu Jing immediately understood his father’s intentions. Having previously remained silent, he immediately joined the Cawl, the Eldar, and the Tyriots in persuading Chapter Master Nero, sharing intelligence on the demon army in the hope of gaining his attention.
However, his efforts failed to persuade Nero.
However, they did have some effect. Nero, alerted, summoned reinforcements in advance, gathering a significant number of troops and arriving at the Super Star to guard against the demon army.
Two weeks later, the demon army descended upon Super Star, plunging it into the flames of war.
The war rapidly expanded, with the demon army’s offensive encompassing dozens of worlds beyond Super Star, intent on destroying the Infinite Legion’s war potential and severing support from across the Infinite Star Region.
The core of the war remained on Super Star.
The brutal battle plunged the Infinite Warriors into a bitter struggle.
Against this backdrop, Cawl and Maeve Neal planned a daring action.
They planned to exploit the chaos to infiltrate the Temple of the God’s Heir, where Robert’s remains lay, and activate the resurrection device.
