Chapter 885, Sitting at the Poker Table

. Gu Jing stood up, his eyes glancing over the statue of the Son of God. He stepped on the snow beneath his feet and let out a long sigh.

Although he had acted confident throughout the entire process, how could he not be nervous?

Fortunately, everything had turned out quite well so far.

From the Space Marines like the Black Crusaders and the Grey Knights, to the more common troops like the Inquisition and the Skitarii, there were certainly casualties, but overall, they were completely acceptable.

Turning his gaze to Maeve Nelson and Archsage Cawl, Gu Jing said, “I have fulfilled your request. Now, most of you have safely arrived at Super Star. Now, it’s time for you to fulfill the reason you used to convince me.”

He was referring, of course, to the resurrection of Robert, the Son of God.

“Of course, that was our goal,” Maeve Nel said. “We’re probably near the North Pole of the Super Sea Star. The next step is to find the Infinity Warriors’ base, establish contact with them, and gain their trust…”

At this point, Gu Jing looked up and gazed into the distance.

“No need to look, they’re here.”

…

When his son and his companions successfully arrived at the Super Sea Star, Gu Hang, whose consciousness was still in the Storm Kingdom, smiled and raised his head. “See, I understand the rules of the game. I followed them completely this time, and I won.”

“Behave yourself! It’s time for you to withdraw.”

A scream echoed outside Gu Hang’s Kingdom.

The Dark Prince was quite unhappy and unwilling to accept the result.

But so what?

He had indeed lost this time.

What a shame.

The prey was valuable, especially the small but elite Eldar team, and their leaders, Maeve Nel and Arielian. She had greatly desired them.

But… a loss was a loss.

No matter how unwilling she was, she had to end this round.

But it didn’t matter.

They still had a near-eternal amount of time to play slowly and thoroughly, completely unconcerned about winning or losing this round.

After Slaanesh’s screams faded, Gu Hang heard Khorne’s furious roar again.

He was hearing that kind of noise more often now than before.

Perhaps it was the start of another “game” between Slaanesh and Khorne, their greatest rivals and enemies.

After confirming that they were gone, Gu Hang sighed helplessly.

In the Warp, the conflict between the evil gods was called the “Great Game.”

What a load of crap!

Gu Hang had no desire to play these so-called games, let alone consider them truly magnificent.

But he had to.

He felt the stronger he became, the less free he became. It felt like

the gods had, for ages, treated everything like pawns, a game, and he was being forced into it.

But he soon understood

why he had been free in the past?

It was because he was too weak, so far removed from the truth of the real universe, that he could seemingly do whatever he wanted.

More importantly, he had to acknowledge that someone was carrying the burden for him.

Why, when he first became a “god,” had he been so untroubled in the Warp? Why, later on, when he used the power of the Warp Kingdom to tear open rifts in the real universe and projected it into the real universe to overwhelm others, was he always the one who gained the upper hand, with no other powerful Warp enemies to confront him?

He had assumed it was all natural, that this was just the way the world was.

The Emperor? Perhaps the Emperor had given him some help, but

he was primarily responsible for it all. However, having reached his current position, he realized that relying on himself was nonsense. At this level of competition, if someone hadn’t protected him in the Warp, carrying the burden, he would have likely been struck down by a powerful interference in the real universe, annihilated by his karma.

In his weaker days, let alone the mighty Warp powers, even a great God-Demon like Shakchi would have been enough to destroy him—how could he have produced a swordmaster like Rossmond back then? How could he possibly have the help of an Eldar envoy, who had countless battles with Shakchi, experience gained through countless sacrifices, and eternal scars?

To put it bluntly, it was all thanks to the Emperor’s protection.

In the early days, he had hidden Gu Hang’s Kingdom of Storms beneath his wings, making it difficult for other malicious Warp powers to find him, buying Gu Hang and his alliance precious time to develop.

Now, he had reached his current position, where even a single powerful being in the Warp would be no match for him in a head-on battle. However, at least he had reached this level, and within his own Kingdom, he could easily protect himself.

At this point, he could no longer count on the Emperor’s protection.

It wasn’t that the Emperor didn’t want to, but that it was impossible.

The Emperor’s protection was primarily about keeping Gu Hang hidden. But now, with the size of Gu Hang and his Alliance, hiding was no longer possible. The other powerful beings had already seen him as a formidable opponent, even inviting him to play “games.”

Instead, it was time for him to offer protection to others.

Take his son, for example.

In that battle on the Webway, every Eldar unit played a crucial role. The greatest contributor, naturally, was Gu Jing.

Gu Hang, on the other hand, played no significant role in the matter itself, and even had a somewhat negative impact. The exchange between Gu Jing and Gu Hang suddenly complicated and complicated the situation on the Webway.

That’s all true.

But what about a higher level? Just

kidding! Without Gu Hang,

many more people would have squeezed through the Webway barrier. Slaanesh coveted that Eldar envoy.

That was his ‘core interest.’

Without Gu Hang watching, Slaanesh would have no opponent in this ‘game,’ and only himself as a player.

How could He remain so obedient? He

would surely exert all his might to interfere, dictating the outcome of the “game” to his own ends.

This was the purpose of Gu Hang’s existence.

Even if he couldn’t provide any assistance to Gu Jing, and even appeared to have some negative side effects, he gave Gu Jing, the Eldar, and the Space Marines a relatively fair chance against the demons,

rather than being trapped in a predestined outcome due to Slaanesh’s interference.

The children had now arrived at Super Star, the place where the Son of God rested.

That was on the other side of the Scarlet Scar.

Gu Hang’s power wouldn’t easily transcend the Scarlet Scar to influence that side. For Gu Hang was now, to a large extent, a “racial god”—not a racial god for all humanity, but for the Alliance.

Currently, the Alliance’s influence on the other side was minimal. Only before the Great Rift appeared, when Gu Hang’s victories in the East spread to the West, attracting a large number of “fans,” especially on Holy Terra, could he exert some influence on the other side.

But the force applied was too weak, and crucially, the scarlet scar acted as a barrier, making it difficult for Gu Hang to obtain any information on Holy Terra. This was

even more challenging than the Super Starfish, where he had virtually no influence.

Gu Hang could no longer control matters there. He

could only rely on his son’s own performance.

However, he remained optimistic and confident overall.

On the one hand, he had considerable faith in Gu Jing’s abilities.

On the other hand, he could no longer control the other side of the Empire’s Dark Side, but he wasn’t truly a human god. That side was the Emperor’s home turf, so he didn’t have to worry too much.

He should continue to focus on the Empire’s Dark Side.

The Dark Side Crusade had been underway for over sixty years, and the Ohmgerian War had been over thirty years.

Victory in the Ohmgerian War effectively eliminated humanity’s greatest enemy from the Empire’s Dark Side Crusade—the Greenskins. The death of the Bonebreaker King meant the Greenskins in the real universe had suddenly lost their most powerful leader.

After suffering a devastating defeat at the hands of the Four Gods, the Greenskins’ second brother, Gomo, was forced to temporarily lay dormant and reduce his interference in the real universe.

This caused the Greenskins’ power in the real universe, at least within the Imperium’s Dark Side, to plummet to a profound low.

Eradicating this race remains extremely difficult. However, after surgery and chemotherapy, the cancer has significantly slowed down, and their condition has improved significantly.

Perhaps, in the indeterminate future, the Greenskins will eventually regenerate, reigniting the Green Frenzy and posing a formidable challenge.

But not now.

With the elimination of a major alien enemy, the overall progress of the Dark Side Expedition has been significantly eased.

Furthermore, the victory in the Omgeria Campaign brought a significant benefit.

A crucial Void Zerg tentacle fleet was annihilated, leaving them with a difficult time replenishing.

The entire Forward Sector was completely reclaimed in the years following the Omgeria War, and the process of assimilation was relatively rapid. It has now become a solid territories of the Alliance. The level of stability certainly wasn’t as high as that of the Spider Web and Eastern Realms, places controlled by the Alliance for centuries, but it was at least comparable to the situation in the Magre Realm.

Tek Hainot, the leader of the Forward Realm, had done a remarkable job.

After the fighting in the Forward Realm largely concluded, the Western Expeditionary Force entered the Tianwang Realm.

The Tianwang Realm was no longer considered part of the Eastern Realm. According to the divisions before the Cataclysm, it was part of the Central Realm of the Empire. However, after the appearance of the Scarlet Scar, a great rift cut across the Empire, ceding a small portion of the Central

Realm to the Dark Side. After nearly thirty years of expeditions, the Tianwang Realm was largely recovered.

Gu Hang had also tasked Yan Fangxu with searching for a stable passage through the Scarlet Scar to the other side of the Empire.

Unfortunately, Yan Fangxu found none in the Tianwang Realm.

However, while this mission was unsuccessful, the Dark Side expedition proceeded relatively smoothly overall.

In fact, the situation in the Tianwang Universe was generally worse than that in the Magre Universe and, after removing the Ohm and Lilia star regions, the Forward Universe. Because the Tianwang Universe was so close to the Scarlet Scar, the influence of Chaos was far more severe than elsewhere.

And here, after gaining entry, Gu Hang had to play many games with the Four Gods.

Honestly, there were wins and losses, and the losses were more common.

Each loss didn’t necessarily mean the war in the real universe was lost. After all, the real universe was still material, and the influence of the Warp was significant, but not completely decisive.

However, when Gu Hang lost, it always resulted in huge losses for the Alliance forces in the real universe.

This made Gu Hang furious and frustrated.

But regardless, the overall trend was positive.

While the battles in the Tianwang Universe were arduous, at least by now, the Tianwang Universe had been largely reconquered.

Compared to the arduous Western Expedition, whose entire progress was largely due to Gu Hang’s participation in the “Great Game” between the gods, the Alliance’s Southern Expedition proceeded more smoothly.

The Southern Expedition’s initial targets were the Adan and Guangjin cosmic regions. By the end of the Omgerian War, these two cosmic regions had been severely ravaged.

Now, the Southern Expedition has expanded the fighting to the Dingyuan and Ningshou cosmic regions, and the battles are nearing their conclusion. Currently

, the Alliance controls eight cosmic regions: Spider Web, East, Magre, Forward, Guangjin, Adan, Dingyuan, and Ningshou.

This includes the Devouring Star cosmic region, a quarter of the Empire’s northern border.

In total, they control over over 43,000 worlds, with an estimated population of nearly one hundred trillion.

Furthermore, many of the policies adopted by the Alliance would be considered “a thankless task” in traditional Imperial politics. But that’s what the Alliance did, steadily repairing those worlds ravaged by war, striving for a swift recovery.

After decades of unwavering perseverance, these long-term investments are gradually yielding returns, benefiting the Alliance and the entire expedition.
