Chapter 869, God’s Chosen One

called Chosen One refers to God bestowing power upon his most devoted followers, granting them a portion of his own strength.

It actually seems simple.

Gu Hang has indeed experimented with similar techniques and is not entirely without experience. The

one who benefited the most was Martins.

The Phoenix Chapter Master had repeatedly felt the force of thunder upon him during difficult battles, a feeling of divine assistance.

But this wasn’t the Chosen One.

At best, Gu Hang was utilizing his powerful psychic energy and the very essence of the Warp to channel some of the power of the Storm Kingdom into his warriors.

It was a rather crude technique, and the resulting effect was limited.

True Chosen One wasn’t simply a psychic empowerment. That would only slightly boost one’s strength, a stark contrast to the traditional concept of “Chosen One” that could directly elevate a person several notches, resulting in a qualitative transformation.

To truly achieve the Chosen One, it would be like crafting a relic or the Queen of Glory warship. Gu Hang would bestow upon the Chosen One a portion of the Warp essence of the Storm Kingdom.

But there was a problem: Gu Hang had never done this before.

Whether it was forging the holy relic or constructing the Queen of Glory, both were system-generated technologies. While Gu Hang had to personally complete the final step, infusing the Warp Essence, the methods and procedures were already pre-existing within the existing technology. Gu Hang could simply follow them, making the task infinitely easier.

But now, there was no ready-made method.

He had to research it himself.

Fortunately, he wasn’t completely new.

He’d done it so many times before, and cutting out a small piece of Warp Essence was a familiar process. While his previous experience couldn’t be directly applied, it at least provided a standardized process for him to follow.

Even if he was a bit rushed at the moment, he felt confident he could complete the task.

But another difficulty soon emerged:

the selection of personnel.

“Divine Chosen”—the term suggests that God is the mastermind. Whoever God chooses is the Chosen One, possessing unrivaled power.

But that wasn’t actually the case.

In his view, while it’s true that if a god doesn’t choose someone, or even despises them, then they can’t become the chosen. Conversely, even if a god wishes to choose someone, the chosen one must be willing to be chosen.

This “willingness” isn’t just about signing a document or simply saying “I agree.”

It requires genuine, heartfelt, subconscious acceptance, both physical and mental, with unconditional acceptance.

This is why only certain devoted believers can achieve this.

But this alone isn’t enough.

Can anyone receive divine power and become the chosen one?

Not at all!

Without potential and sufficient accumulation, the overabundance of divine power will only lead to the chosen one’s collapse.

This is how the Chaos Spawns created by the Chaos Gods are created.

Even most Chaos Spawns, by conventional standards, are considered the elite of the elite. Otherwise, it would be difficult for them to accumulate enough merits before death to please the evil god, win his favor, and receive sufficient grace.

Furthermore, the evil god’s favorite thing to do is to ‘steal people.’ Using various means, he seduces humans or other races, corrupting their elites. This is the most satisfying thing.

However, the vast majority of followers of the evil gods who received sufficient grace ultimately suffered from lack of power and were transformed into Chaos Spawns.

In reality, if Gu Hang were to desperately seek out one of his own fanatics and force-feed them with power, a similar effect would occur. However, the resulting form would likely be a violent lightning elemental. Like a Chaos Spawn, it would lack reason, personality, and a short lifespan.

For the evil gods, granting grace was simply a form of fun; transforming into a Chaos Spawn was enough.

But serious deities—including even Gu Hang’s green-skinned second brother, who was now threatening him—would not do so.

The Emperor and the Eldar gods were quite restrained in bestowing divine power.

Gu Hang was no exception.

Creating a mindless lightning elemental would offer little help against Bonebreaker, and it posed a significant risk, damaging his reputation. It

was unnecessary and should only be used as a last resort.

However, these three constraints—fanatic followers, strong power, and safety—combined together created a significant problem for Gu Hang.

For one thing, he hadn’t established a religion. The Alliance’s faith in him wasn’t mindless religious fanaticism, but rather a genuine identification with the ideals and trust in the leader. From this perspective, finding a fanatical believer was a bit difficult.

Even though the Commissar training had significantly strengthened their loyalty, it wasn’t brainwashing or soul-swapping, and Commissar training alone wasn’t enough. On

the other hand, Space Marines undoubtedly possessed far superior individual qualities compared to ordinary people. However, the newer members of the Alliance who trusted Gu Hang more hadn’t had enough time to mature. Even those who had enough time to mature and were exceptionally skilled didn’t share the Alliance’s ideals or trust Gu Hang enough.

This presented Gu Hang with significant challenges in finding his chosen one.

He first looked among Martins and Ewing,

but neither met the criteria.

Ewing wasn’t necessarily a hope, but Gu Hang was actually hoping for Martins, but he wasn’t up to the mark either.

Looking further down the list, the nineteen Chapter Champions preparing to participate also weren’t up to the mark.

Looking further down the list?

Finally, he found one.

There were some new recruits in the alliance who had a firm belief in Gu Hang. However, their strength level was only that of a company champion at best.

Gu Hang could only select eighteen of them who had reached the level of a company champion and raise their level as much as possible until they reached the peak of the company champion level.

Then, he began to cut the essence of the warp.

The level of a company champion could only bear a very small amount of the warp essence. Moreover, since it was his first attempt at such a thing, Gu Hang did not dare to take a big step at once and was relatively conservative.

But despite this, eleven of the eighteen selected candidates failed.

In other words, Gu Hang was relatively cautious, and the failures did not have any particularly serious consequences.

But also because of his conservatism, the seven who succeeded had crossed a level and reached the level of a chapter champion.

Perhaps they could barely be called “God’s Chosen Ones”, but there was definitely a difference between them and the real God’s Chosen Ones.

Gu Hang had to look at the broader picture.

He had already given up hope, but he did not expect to gain anything and found two very suitable targets.
