Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 874
Chapter 867: Second Brother’s End
! One Axe!
Just one axe!
Kalion’s eyes blazed red as he watched his respected Chapter Master being chopped in two by that monster’s axe, sword, and armor all in one!
But what could he do?
He could only grit his teeth and, with fifty Iron-Fisted Ambassadors, run, run.
This was the Chapter Master’s order, demanding that he preserve the Chapter’s bloodline, hoping for a future resurgence.
It was a daunting task, not only in the future but also in the present.
If he had a choice, he would rather turn around and die with his battle-brothers, even if it meant a meaningless death. That would be the end of it, far better than living in vain and carrying such heavy pressure and guilt for countless years.
But no.
His duty was too great.
That monster was too terrifying.
Forty minutes ago, his Chapter had been brimming with triumph.
They had been the first to breach the Fourth Ring of Defense, adding another glorious chapter to their record in the Omgerian War.
However, the appearance of Bonebreaker dashed their glory.
Furthermore, it brought catastrophic disaster to the Ironclad Ambassador.
In truth, upon recognizing the incredibly powerful Greenskin leader approaching them as most likely King Bonebreaker, Owe hadn’t given into a moment of complacency.
He harbored no unrealistic illusions, nor did he arrogantly believe that he and his Ironclad Ambassador could stop this terrifying monster.
If Owe had been short-sighted in the past, unable to grasp the formidable power of an opponent of this caliber, after having joined the Alliance for quite some time, he had fully grasped the reality.
This was no match for him.
Just look at Bonebreaker’s own record in this war.
Most striking was the brilliant ambush he orchestrated in the final stand against the Zerg Queen. He had bypassed the Greenskins’ defenses and delivered the most powerful Zerg individuals—the Cerebrate Tyrant, the Hive Tyrant, the Executioner Tyrant, the Swarm Overlord—directly into Bonebreaker’s face, laying siege to him.
This was a sure kill, no matter what.
Yet, Bonescrush single-handedly slew these powerful ambushers.
What kind of a concept was this?
Owe had once faced a Hive Lord, a being he could not defeat despite his utmost efforts. He ultimately triumphed, at great cost and through cooperation with Steelbone Butcher, at great cost and loss.
And according to the intelligence footage circulated at High Command, obtained at the cost of a certain psychic observer’s life, Bonescrush slaughtered the Hive Tyrant like a dog.
The Zerg had created such a golden opportunity, yet he couldn’t succeed, let alone Owe and his Chapter.
Furthermore, Bonescrush hadn’t fallen into a trap, and he wasn’t alone. Accompanying him were arguably the most elite of the Ork forces on Ankachi VIII. Even with the massive armored units like King Kong, even the Ork guards and Terminator veterans around him wouldn’t necessarily be victorious.
And the Warlords and Grand Shamans who surrounded King Bonebreaker were likely each as powerful as a Chapter champion.
Whether in terms of individual combat power or the sheer size of their army, the Iron Fist Ambassador, fresh from a brutal battle, was in no position to stand against the enemy.
They were forced to abandon the fortress bastion they had just captured at the cost of countless lives and retreat.
No matter how reluctant they were, they couldn’t throw their entire regiment into a battle they couldn’t win in vain; it would be a meaningless sacrifice, devoid of value.
Of course, Owe quickly relayed the news of the Bonebreaker King’s personal appearance and the assault to the highest levels.
His retreat wasn’t without purpose.
He was retreating to the fifth ring of defenses,
which they had captured two days prior and had already handed over to the incoming troops.
The human army’s assault on the Bonebreaker Throne fortress was both swift and aggressive, yet also possessed a steady, unwavering presence. The Iron Fist Ambassador and the several
A-Class divisions leading the relentless and relentless attack were the Iron Fist Ambassadors and their accompanying A-Class divisions.
However, the A-Type Division, along with numerous B-Type Divisions, quickly took over the areas captured by the attacking forces, clearing any remaining Greenskins, ensuring smooth logistical support for the attacking forces, and establishing a solid defensive perimeter to prevent enemy counterattacks. They would also be deployed when necessary to provide the spearhead with all necessary support, including long-range firepower, troop reinforcements, and even direct combat.
In two days, the engineers, using engineering machinery, the ruins of Orcish buildings, and local materials, should have constructed a fairly functional defense.
While adding these human troops would still make it somewhat impractical to stop the Bonebreakers, they did have a certain strategic depth. From the defensive perimeter to the fifth ring of the fortress, they could block the Greenskins at every level. They didn’t aim to completely stop the Greenskins, but rather to delay the elite Greenskins’ assault, creating a delaying effect and buying time.
What would they do with that time?
That wasn’t something he considered.
But he believed that both Chapter Captain Martins, commanding from the ground, and General Gu, in orbit, would find a way to handle the situation.
After all, the primary target of this attack was Bonebreaker himself.
His presence, taking the initiative, might seem menacing, but wasn’t that an opportunity?
Otherwise, if they continued to attack the walls one by one, the battle would drag on for who knows how long at the hands of the stubborn Greenskins, and the Humans would suffer heavy casualties.
Now, the opportunity to end this life-threatening war with the utmost speed presented itself.
Owe was determined to do what he had to do.
However, the situation spiraled out of his control from the outset.
Although he led his troops in a relentless retreat upon sensing Bonebreaker himself, Bonebreaker had no intention of letting him go.
A large number of Greenskin air units were dispatched, swarming like bees, temporarily entangled the Human air force.
Under attack from the human air force and the incoming human armored anti-aircraft vehicles, the Orc air force was losing personnel at a rapid rate. However, this did not prevent them from quickly occupying the skies.
The Iron Fist Ambassador, while evacuating, was attacked from the air
, which inevitably slowed their retreat.
To make matters worse, a group of troops parachuted down from an Orc aircraft.
They were led by a powerful Orc warlord. Though small in number, they were all elite.
They might not be enough to kill the Iron Fist Ambassador, but they were enough to hold them off.
Once Bonebreaker arrived, everything would be over.
Owei, of course, realized this was the most dangerous moment.
He made two plans.
One was to desperately stop the Orc warlord and order his troops to break through the airstrike, despite the disadvantageous situation.
On the other hand, there was Karion.
During the breakout, Karion and his fifty warriors were the final seed.
Taking advantage of the Iron Fist’s main force’s breakout, which had largely distracted the enemy, Karion and his fifty men quietly escaped from the edge of the battlefield.
The entire Iron Fist ambassador’s breakout operation was also a cover for them. Sometimes, even when there was a better option, Owe’s orders favored the one that would better facilitate Karion’s troops’ escape.
And so, Karion did escape,
carrying the last seed of the chapter with him.
But at the same time, Boneshard himself arrived.
In Karion’s agony and despair, a glimmer of hope suddenly appeared: the battlefield blazed with lightning, and countless azure, translucent Heroic Elves appeared on the battlefield.
Moreover, this time, their quality was exceptionally high.
These Heroic Elves not only wore Alliance Army uniforms, but also a considerable number were much taller than mortals, clad in power armor and even Terminator armor.
Karion had heard of Heroic Elves.
Although he had never seen one himself, Heroic Spirits had appeared numerous times in previous battles, on numerous battlefields, and by so many people. With lax confidentiality policies and numerous eyewitnesses, it was inevitable that some snippets of information would leak out.
Like many others, when he heard about Heroic Spirits, Carrion harbored doubts. While they seemed benign now, they sounded unreliable.
He also doubted that humanity needed the help of these unearthly supernatural creatures in this glorious war. Ultimate victory would be achieved without them.
But at this moment, the sudden appearance of a Heroic Spirit gave him immense hope.
Perhaps his Chapter, and the Chapter Master he respected, could still be saved.
Boneshard arrived, standing before the Heroic Spirits.
His personal guards engaged the Heroic Spirits, and the battle instantly reached a ferocious pitch. In a matter of moments, countless Heroic Spirits were shot and chopped down, but many elite Orcs also perished.
Bonebreaker charged furiously, his battle cry resounding throughout the arena. Even the blast of gunfire couldn’t dampen the trembling and fear that ripped through every being.
And those most affected were the Heroic Spirits!
The Heroic Spirits, who had just been desperately battling the orc army, creating a chance for the Iron-Handed Ambassadors to break out, suddenly became unstable.
Electric arcs crackled, their bodies grew more ethereal, their power drastically diminished. In this unstable, flickering state, most of the Heroic Spirits were either annihilated or simply lost their ability to maintain their existence, vanishing just as suddenly as they had arrived.
The few who managed to maintain a presence saw their fighting power greatly diminished, quickly scattered by gunfire and blades.
Even more terrifying, the Heroic Spirits that had been constantly spawning ceased to appear.
Caught off guard, their defenses left exposed, the Iron-Handed Ambassadors plunged into a state of despair.
From afar, Kalion watched his battle-brothers melt like ice cubes in a cauldron, swiftly succumbing to the green tide.
Hundreds of Space Marines could barely mount a complete resistance.
The most striking of them all was Bonebreaker himself.
His massive frame made even the Space Marines look like tiny chickens.
He slaughtered the Ironclads with ease, crushing none.
The Chapter’s Librarian summoned a shroud of psychic fire, seemingly adding a cosmetic effect to his form. It inflicted no damage, and instead, a glare from him sent the Librarian’s head and helmet shattering into flames.
Finally, Owe faced Bonebreaker.
The ironclad leader bravely raised his phaser and challenged the Ork King.
Bonebreaker accepted the challenge.
He possessed vastly superior speed and agility, more refined skills, the added benefit of a waagh force field, not to mention a physical strength unmatched in the entire real universe…
all combined, he achieved a seemingly ordinary axe blow.
Owe wielded a phase sword, said to be indestructible, capable of cleaving even adamantine armor.
However, it was cleaved by the crude-looking axe in Bonebreaker’s hand.
The axe continued downward, starting above Owe’s left ear and extending down to his right hip, severing his head and upper body diagonally in two.
Karion finally gave up and turned away in tears.
…
The Heroic Spirits that appeared in Iron Fist’s moment of despair were, of course, Gu Hang’s handiwork.
In truth, not only the Heroic Spirits, but Gu Hang himself had already prepared to descend.
This was the plan for Bonebreaker’s appearance.
Whether Bonebreaker couldn’t bear the disadvantage, unwilling to wait for death, and launched an attack, or simply held back, ultimately being surrounded by humans in the center, Gu Hang intended to personally intervene if he spotted him, resolving this crucial threat with lightning speed.
But Gu Hang was caught off guard and faced a serious obstacle.
In reality, Bonebreaker’s roar alone could shatter numerous Heroic Spirits, a fact not surprising. Its powerful Waagh field, when unleashed, could shatter Heroic Spirits, which relied solely on the power of the Warp.
However, if new Heroic Spirits could not be generated after the roar, then that wasn’t Bonebreaker’s achievement.
He also couldn’t stop Gu Hang from projecting his power onto the ground.
The real threat came from the Warp.
Just as Gu Hang was about to personally intervene, he suddenly spotted two orc faces reflected in the dark clouds above his Kingdom of Storms. Instead
of their usual smirks and frenzy, their faces were expressionless.
Gu Hang seemed to understand what they meant:
“That’s our chosen one. None of us have gone down there ourselves. You can go down there and try it yourself.”
“If you dare go down there, we will destroy your kingdom of God!”
