Chapter 839, “Treasures”

Wang Kerong hastily fled the Steel Flame Furnace.

He was the Steel Flame Furnace’s Forging General, his base. He wouldn’t have left his home base unless the situation was absolutely desperate.

But now, that point had come.

The Orc army that had conquered Mingmu Star was formidable.

At the outset of the battle, no one realized the immense strength of the invading force. Once the war escalated rapidly, it was too late.

In Wang Kerong’s view, the culprit for the swift collapse of the Mingmu Star war was Ricardo Lazio.

The Moon-Watching Star Region had provided Mingmu Star with so many resources, yet that man had only defended it for less than two weeks before losing it.

His death was simply unworthy of regret! He saw no fault in the matter.

Just as he saw no fault in his own actions, as the Forging General of the Forge World, evacuating with his most elite guards, numerous warships, and even mechanical arks as the enemy army approached.

The entire Steel Forge was his possession, his most precious treasure. Losing his treasure was heartbreaking enough, so who could blame him at this point?

That Orc army had conquered even Bright Eye Star in such a short time; could the Steel Forge hold out?

It was hard to say.

Even if he could hold out, even at the cost of a scorched earth, he would be in grave danger staying in the Steel Forge. It was said that the Orc Warlord was extremely powerful. If he led his elite troops to attack his palace, he wouldn’t be sure he could withstand it and would likely die. He

left with his most elite troops and most precious ships to preserve his strength. As long as the people and the Ark Mechanicus remained, even if the Forge World was lost, they might be able to create another one elsewhere. Even if it would be much smaller and take years to rebuild to the size of the Steel Forge, there was nothing they could do. It

was better than the destruction of people, ships, and the world altogether, right?

As for the many people left behind on the Steel Flame Furnace… there was no way around it. Time was running out, ships were limited, and Wang Kerong couldn’t possibly take everyone off the planet.

Besides, they could stay on the planet and use the Steel Flame Furnace, a forge world with a comprehensive defense system, to fight the orc army and resist layer by layer.

Hopefully, they could hold out until the arrival of the Alliance forces led by Taishichen. Even more hopeful, the Steel Flame Furnace would still be relatively intact by then.

Then, he would return and retrieve his treasures.

Isn’t it only natural for the Forge General to return to his forge world?

Right now, the most important thing was to find a suitable base. One that would allow them to wait for an opportunity.

If the orcs broke through all remaining defenses in the Moon-Watching Star Region, and even Taishichen’s Alliance forces couldn’t stop them, then this location would be ideal for an immediate escape.

If the Steel Flame Furnace could be recaptured, it would also be a good place for him to quickly return with his fleet and reclaim his treasures.

Choosing a location was crucial!

He had already held two meetings with his staff and other experts in the core business, and neither location had come up satisfactory.

After all, this wasn’t just about choosing a site; it also required a series of follow-up plans that had to be both feasible and imaginative.

Wang Kerong, in a bad mood, had been fuming for days.

Today was the third meeting.

He still didn’t think the plan was particularly good, and he lambasted everyone in the meeting.

But he didn’t have any good ideas of his own.

In the end, it seemed they had no choice but to choose from the existing options.

Just as he was hesitating between several options, the door to the conference hall suddenly flung open.

Wang Kerong looked up suddenly.

The people he had appointed to attend the meeting had all arrived. Aside from the attendees, he couldn’t recall allowing anyone else to enter the conference hall at this time.

He saw that the person barging in was Liu Se, the current Acting Chapter Master of the Moon-Watching Knights, one of the few survivors of the Battle of Bright Eyes, a loser and a deserter.

He was accompanied by a dozen or so Space Marines.

Some were from his own Moon-Watching Knights Chapter, and some from the Black Fox Blades Chapter—the latter, one of the two Chapters native to the Moon-Watching Star Region, had suffered a similar fate.

The Space Marines who had evacuated Bright Eyes were only about ten in total, all from these two Chapters. All the members of the Dragon King’s Spear had perished in the battle.

When they retreated to the Steel Flame Furnace, Wang Kerong had given these losers shelter. During the evacuation, he also considered the Space Marines’ combat effectiveness and, although there were only a dozen or so remaining, he took them all with him and treated them with some degree of respect.

But…

“Captain Liu Se, the respect I give you is no reason for you to disrespect me,” Wang Kerong said with irritation. “You are not invited to this meeting. Please leave.”

Liu Se said nothing, simply stepping aside.

From behind him, two groups emerged.

One group consisted of several ruling bishops from the Steel Furnace, led by the sage Pilias.

Pilias was indeed the sage of the Steel Furnace, but Wang Kerong disliked him. Especially since the Alliance arrived, he had become quite close to the Alliance, which only further displeased him.

While in the car, he deliberately didn’t inform Pilias. He should have been left behind on Steel Furnace soil; how could he be on the ship?

And the woman next to Pilias was even more unfamiliar to him.

But unfamiliar as she was, the symbol on her right b*east suddenly brought back a memory.

He seemed to have read about it in some literature.

Within the Alliance, there was a mysterious group called the Demon Hunters.

The female demon hunter said, “I am Millia de Jong, leader of the special investigation team of the demon hunter task force of the Dark Expedition Command. I bring the command from the headquarters: Wang Kerong is suspected of treason and should be arrested.”

“How dare you!” Wang Kerong stood up suddenly, “Kill them!”

He ordered his left and right.

His personal guards of the Crusaders faithfully carried out his orders and raised their weapons.

But the counterattack from the Space Marines and the demon hunter team was even faster. Although those personal guards of the Crusaders were elite, they were quickly wiped out.

However, Wang Kerong’s greatest reliance was not on these personal guards, but on the main business sages and ruling bishops who attended the meeting in the conference hall and whom he trusted.

But what made him feel most disillusioned was that these main business sages and ruling bishops hesitated and did not move.
