Chapter 835, Prove to Yourself

that the main fortress on Mingmu, housing the interstellar blockade, is under heavy attack, with large areas already lost.

The deafening artillery fire, directed overhead, was so intense that even within the sturdy fortifications of Ricardo and his companions, they could feel the ground trembling.

But this didn’t bother Ricardo at all.

He carefully inspected his weapons.

Even after repeated inspections, it was still a habit before a campaign. He used this method to relax.

“Captain Ricardo, this operation is unsuccessful,”

the man who tried to persuade him was named Liu Se, from the Moon-Watching Knights Chapter. As the name suggests, this is a Space Marine Chapter based in the Moon-Watching Segmentum, with a history of approximately two thousand years. Its parent Chapter is the Golden Knights. When the Ork Wars broke out in Omgiria, they bravely accepted the call for help from their fraternal Chapters and sent three companies to join the war—at that time, they had fewer than five hundred men. Of these three companies, not a single one returned, including the Chapter Master.

The remaining one hundred or so Moon-Watching Knights elected Liu Se as acting Chapter Master and joined the Alliance’s battle line. After the Unbreakable Line of Defense was established, Liu Se’s mission was to work with Captain Ricardo of the Dragon King’s Spear to defend the three exits of the Moon-Watching Star Region.

At this moment, they were all at one of the three exits, Exit Seven, which had always been under the greatest military pressure, on Mingmu Star.

But now, Mingmu Star was almost doomed.

The orcs had already broken through, and they had tried every possible means, but for a month, they were beaten back step by step, forced to retreat to this last core fortress.

With nowhere to retreat, they had the Cosmic Blockade Device behind them. If this device were destroyed by the green-skinned orcs, then this massive orc army, which could have destroyed Mingmu Star in a month, would rush into the Moon-Watching Star Region, causing untold devastation.

As the commander-in-chief, Ricardo Lazio decided at this last moment to gather all his mobile forces and launch a decapitation operation against the enemy commander, the orc warlord they called “Uru”.

Uru was reckless, but truly powerful. He liked to fight on the front lines, and in the past month, at least ten battle brothers from different regiments had been killed by him personally.

There was no need to scout its position; its flag was erected at the forefront of the attack on the fortress.

But so what?

It was still extremely difficult to kill him.

Liu Se was not optimistic about Ricardo’s so-called last stand.

The success rate was too low.

“So what do you think we should do?” Ricardo asked.

“Break out, evacuate.” At this point, Liu Se didn’t care about anything else, and gave his opinion directly, “Try to retain the mobile force, keep as many people as possible alive, evacuate to the spaceship, and return to the Wangyue Star Region. We still have hope, and we can still resist layer by layer in the Wangyue Star Region until Lord Taishichen returns to support.”

Ricardo shook his head slightly: “I won’t talk about being a deserter, losing glory and other nonsense. Anyway, the alliance doesn’t care about this. Only those who can win the battle are true heroes. However, I want to say that even if we evacuate, the chances are not high. The most likely scenario is that everyone will die on the way to evacuate. Instead of that, it is better to make one last effort while we still have the strength, and maybe we can get a glimmer of hope.”

“But…”

Ricardo stopped Liu Se and said with a smile, “Besides, if I lead the assault, I can better create a chance for you to break out.”

“Captain Ricardo! That’s not what I meant!” Liu Se was anxious. He was not a coward.

“I know, I know.” Ricardo just smiled. “Relax. Just as I understand your suggestion, it’s a rational choice, not a cowardly one. But of course, you also have to understand that I’m not making a crazy move out of desperation. You have to believe that I made this decision after careful consideration.”

“This is the best choice: at the moment of life and death, we must muster the greatest courage to fight for even the smallest chance of victory, which is always better than doing nothing. At the same time, even if our sacrifice cannot achieve victory, we must at least preserve the seeds. That is your responsibility, Captain Liu Se. I look forward to you leading the thirty warriors I have selected from the three regiments to leave the Mingmu Galaxy alive and minimize human losses in the future defense of the Wangyue Star Domain.”

Liu Se was extremely ashamed of what he said. He said, “I can take on the responsibility of attracting the enemy, and you lead the people to evacuate. Your survival is more valuable than… My dear, you are the leader of the expeditionary force in the Unbroken Line – the Moon-Watching section…”

Ricardo shook his head and said, “No, it won’t happen. The orc army that arrived this time was so large, but our rapid collapse was also due to our own reasons.”

At this point, he snorted coldly and continued, “The Knights promised by the Steel Flame Furnace have arrived at a rate of less than 60%; the troops sent by the Mercenary Queen Tristan are underequipped. She claims that the financial revenues of the fifteen planets that were originally delivered to her have not arrived, leaving her with insufficient funds to arm the troops; the Sisters of Comell will follow orders but not procure them… The Moon-Watching Star Region is disappointing.”

Liu Se looked ashamed.

He was also a Moon-Watching person, and the behavior of those people made him ashamed to be associated with them.

“We are from the Alliance, not the Moon Watchers. Due to the special conditions here, there is no way to clean it up first according to the expeditionary force’s conventional conquest policy. It is expected that such a situation will occur. But you are different, Liu Se, you are a Moon Watcher, and you will be more likely to get support than me. So, promise me to survive, and then take the people of the Moon Watcher Star Domain to protect your homeland. Finally, after the main force of the Alliance arrives, settle accounts with those traitors, and don’t let go of those who killed us.”

After hearing this, Liu Se could only nod.

Then, he heard Ricardo Lazio speak with emotion:

“I, the third captain of the Spear of the Dragon King, once followed the Ironclad Chapter as a traitor before the Chapter joined the Alliance. It was me who persuaded many people, even our Chapter Master, to switch sides and join the Alliance. For many years, I have had doubts about this decision. Of course, I firmly believe that everything the Alliance has done is correct. But what I doubt is whether everything I have done is in line with the perseverance that a Space Marine should have. At that time, when I did this, did I have even the slightest intention of succumbing to power in order to save my own life?” “For

many years, it has been difficult for me to give myself a definite answer. I really want to say firmly: Not at all. I am wholeheartedly for the Empire, for humanity, and for the future of the Chapter. But I can’t say it.” “

And now, for me personally, it is a great opportunity for me to prove it all.”

Liu Se couldn’t help but say: “You don’t need to prove your loyalty to anyone, Captain Ricardo…”

“No, I do. At least, I need to prove it to myself.”
