Chapter 829, Omjilia

Alliance’s successful rule over the newly conquered territories holds profound significance.

It means that the Dark Side Expedition isn’t simply a costly war effort, but rather a profitable one, capable of strengthening the Alliance’s overall strength through war-fighting.

Furthermore, this isn’t predatory income, nor a one-time gain. The Alliance’s management prowess will allow many planets to unleash their potential, even further developing and becoming even more prosperous than before. The established planetary defense forces will provide backup forces for the expedition, much like the Alliance’s homeland. Strengthened military and food industries will also provide resources for the expedition.

The Alliance even aims to make these areas the same as the Alliance’s homeland.

Currently, six hundred worlds have already been incorporated into the Alliance’s homeland, with over six hundred more generating positive returns and transitioning to the Alliance’s homeland. Over a thousand worlds have already achieved a break-even point. Within the Magre universe, nearly a thousand worlds are currently operating at a loss. The remaining worlds are essentially safe zone worlds—those that are also experiencing a slight loss, but are essentially somewhere between salvageable and hopeless, and have been largely abandoned by the Alliance. Unless they demonstrate their own strength and expand their safe zones to cover more than half the globe, the Alliance will invest significant resources in normalizing their worlds.

This is the general situation of the Dark Side Expedition, which has essentially conquered the entire Magre Realm.

The main force of the Western Expedition has already reached the Advance Realm.

Meanwhile, on the Southern Front, operations in the Adan and Guangjin Realms have already conquered approximately 1,400 worlds. Four hundred of these have achieved a break-even point, while the majority of the remaining 1,000 are still in the support phase, with a smaller number implementing safe zone policies.

This is roughly the situation for the already conquered regions.

The problems in these regions have been characterized as internal affairs of the Alliance, or rather, the Imperial Dark Side Control Council, rather than military issues.

Regarding internal affairs, the issue of reinforcements from the northern front, which caused a major upheaval in Alliance politics, has been handled with relative low-key attention.

This matter itself is actually not a major one.

The entire Dark Side Expeditionary Command recognized the problem of brutal fighting on the Northern Front, with few benefits and heavy casualties, and had been working on a solution.

With this incident, they decided to unveil the solution sooner rather than later. The solution

involved simply strengthening the merit calculation method on the Northern Front and requiring a high percentage of senior Alliance officers to have served on the Northern Front before they could advance. Combat allowances were multiplied, and the already faster rank advancement rate than on the Western and Southern Fronts was further enhanced.

Of course, this alone might not be enough.

Simply offering benefits without the life-threatening situation of going to the Northern Front would be a difficult decision.

What good would it be if there were no benefits to bring back?

While there’s talk of leaving something for one’s family, the Alliance’s current standard of living isn’t particularly low. With a sense of responsibility and a good work ethic within the Alliance system, one wouldn’t find themselves in a situation where they’d risk their lives to provide for their families.

As for those who truly struggled, they often lacked such a sense of responsibility.

Recruiting troops from the impoverished, recently conquered worlds was a viable idea. However, this approach was inherently unsightly.

The Alliance was still promoting legitimacy on those newly conquered worlds, promoting the idea that they were all one family and that the Alliance was here to save the world.

But after saving them, they then yanked their lightly armed labor force into the brutal battlefields of the north, right?

It wasn’t particularly effective, and it didn’t address the fundamental problem.

The solution General Headquarters came up with was rotation.

First, we need to strengthen and institutionalize the rotation of troops on the Western, Southern, and Northern Fronts.

Second, we need to further improve the Union Army’s demobilization mechanisms, so that soldiers fighting in distant regions don’t enlist at 20 and return injured at 50. If all recruits were like this, recruitment would be prohibitively difficult.

Third, even those who aspire to continue their military careers should fight on the Northern Front for five or six years, then withdraw when necessary, rest for two years, and then return to the Western or Southern Fronts.

Fourth, a high percentage of newly recruited troops from the Union homeland should be deployed to the Northern Front first. This ensures stability and adequate support for the Northern Front, while also facilitating the demobilization of troops deployed there.

These strategies can only be implemented when resources are available. After all, if a major war breaks out, the front lines will be horrific. There will be no time for demobilization or rotations; the fight will be fierce.

This isn’t a complete solution to the predicament on the northern front.

The core reason for the problems there lies in the intense military pressure facing that direction. This fundamental cause is an objective condition and cannot be resolved. Other solutions will only provide a temporary solution, not a fundamental solution.

However, addressing the symptoms is far better than allowing the current situation to continue, leading to the persistently low morale of the troops sent to fight on the northern front.

Internal issues within the alliance, such as these, have occupied a significant portion of Gu Hang’s time.

These issues must be addressed, and they can’t be resolved once and for all. There will inevitably be more problems to come, requiring ongoing resolution.

Gu Hang is prepared for a protracted war.

However, the current challenges facing the alliance aren’t solely internal.

There are also numerous external challenges.

Leaving aside the issues on the northern front, the immense military pressure can only be overcome through continuous reinforcements and increased manpower to maintain the front.

However, on the western front, a new problem is even more daunting.

It’s a report Gu Hang received regarding the advance into the cosmic domain.

When the main force of the Alliance’s Dark Side Expedition entered the Forward Space, they soon ran into a major problem: the Ohmgeria star field, this entire star field that was once considered relatively prosperous, has now become an uninhabited area.

According to the expeditionary force’s communication with many worlds on the edge of the Ohmgeria star field, it has been harassed by greenskin pirate warlords for nearly thirty years. The problems caused by the Scarlet Scar and the successive military failures have completely disabled the star field government. An Orc Empire rose in the Ohmgeria star field and quickly grew and expanded, almost occupying the entire star field and forming a green tide.

If that were all, it would be fine.

The more critical problem is that a very clever Inquisitor lured a Void Zerg tentacle fleet that was wreaking havoc outside several star fields to Ohmgeria.
