Chapter 823, Fallen Angel

“How exciting… Wow, there’s even a Second Empire going on? These Sons of God are truly formidable…”

“Half the entire legion actually sided with the traitors and ambushed a legion led by the Sons of God on their home planet?”

“They fought a civil war… Wow, they even blew up their own home planet, didn’t they? And took their own Sons of God with them?”

“So the Death Angels’ famous stone mobile fortress-monastery isn’t the captured asteroid they claimed it was, but the wreckage of their destroyed home planet?”

“This legion is truly hilarious… No, it’s truly tragic.”

…

Gu Hang sighed for a long time.

The information he had just read revealed the Death Legion’s considerable secrets.

At the same time, he felt a strong sense of disarray.

On the one hand, he felt the Death Angels’ history was truly ‘exciting,’ no wonder they guarded it so closely, never letting anyone know. Exposure of these matters would be a devastating blow to the Chapter’s reputation.

On the other hand, he also felt that the Death Angels’ actions to hunt the Fallen Angels and suppress information were a bit too obsessive.

It was outrageous.

What should he do next?

Gu Hang had obtained the information he wanted, but to be honest, it was a bit beyond his expectations, so much so that he felt it would be difficult to use.

Should he use this information to negotiate with the Death Angels? Given their level of obsession, Gu Hang doubted there was any room for negotiation.

He might even create a formidable enemy.

If he pretended to be completely ignorant of this, the Death Angels would still be suspicious of him. From Milorila’s soul, Gu Hang could tell that the Unforgotten Vow had always maintained secret ties with their parent chapter, the Death Angels.

Even when the original legion was disbanded into a thousand-man chapter, the Death Angels seemed to have complied with this plan, but the secret society culture that had been established within their legion for ten thousand years had persisted. The majority of the Death Angels’ senior members belonged to a group called the “Inner Circle.”

The Death Angels’ mother group, Supreme Grand Master Organgron, can mobilize the actions of most of their sub-groups through this “inner circle.”

Of course, there must be inner circles within this inner circle; Gu Hang felt that was inevitable.

Secrets and the formation of small groups might be ingrained in their souls. Even those like Alvin and Shaka, born into the Alliance, are inevitably prone to this tendency after being implanted with the Death Angels’ seed.

However, even if the Death Angels’ mother group learned of the events of the Unforgotten Oath and the reality that their inner circle members had been wiped out by Gu Hang, they likely wouldn’t make a public scene unless Gu Hang made the whole thing public.

However, covert investigations and targeting would likely be unavoidable.

Dealing with this group of madmen is a daunting task. Furthermore, possessing such crucial information related to the Death Angels, yet unable to utilize it, Gu Hang felt as if something was crawling on his body, making him feel uneasy.

Regardless of how to proceed, this matter was of great importance and required careful consideration.

Let’s put that aside for now. Right

now, there are two things we must do.

First, can the Unforgotten Chapter, now in such a state, be completely brought under its control?

Not just under the Alliance’s jurisdiction, not just under its orders, but recognized by the system.

This hasn’t happened yet, but Gu Hang has a plan.

The Space Marines aboard this assault ship who followed Miloriela in the “rebellion” must be dealt with completely.

And then, as High Lord of the Empire and Supreme Chairman of the Imperial Dark Side Control Committee, he will declare a rebellion within the Unforgotten Chapter. He won’t be branding the entire Chapter as traitors, but Miloriela and his group of high-ranking Chapter leaders as traitors, condemning them.

Aren’t they planning to feign allegiance to the Lord of Change, bear the name of Chaos, and escape Alliance control? Then, let’s make that charge a reality.

Furthermore, according to their plan, only a few hundred so-called “Bloodsworn members” escaped. The remaining so-called outer members were intended to be “sacrificial,” remaining in Alliance hands.

These people might not be so hopeless after all.

After all, according to the information Gu Hang unearthed from the souls of the Unforgotten’s high-ranking members, their Chapter is host to layers of secret societies. These underwater divisions constitute the Chapter’s true power structure. Many secrets are also kept secret from those outside the Chapter. Those outer-level Space Marines truly have no idea what’s really going on.

Of course, Gu Hang won’t completely trust them.

He will demand that all Unforgotten Space Marines surrender their weapons and submit to unconditional interrogation for another round of screening.

Gu Hang is confident of the results of this screening because he has a very reliable method for determining whether the system recognizes the Chapter.

If, after eliminating all Bloodsworn, the system still doesn’t recognize it, it means the purge is incomplete and further purges must be conducted among the outer-level members.

Those who resist will be killed without mercy.

When the system recognizes them, that’s the end of the matter.

In extreme cases, even if the entire Unforgotten Chapter is wiped out, only a few hundred Alliance members remain.

Anyway, as long as the system recognizes it, and the exchange quota for 2,000 Death Angel gene seeds is obtained, Gu Hang will not only be able to quickly replenish the troops for this regiment, but also build another Death Angel sub-regiment.

It’s nothing more than spending a few more grace points, and the cost is not expensive.

By that time, the total number of Space Marines owned by the Alliance should be able to reach 46,000, no longer the unpleasant odd number before.

The second thing is that Gu Hang is going to meet the Fallen Angel that the Unforgettable Oath is willing to pay a huge price to chase.

The Death Angel has so many secrets, and the Fallen Angel should have more secrets, right?

After calculating the remaining power of this incarnation, time is a little tight.

Fortunately, the battle aboard the ship didn’t take much of his energy. At most, the initial attack on the Chapter Master of the Unforgotten Oath expended some energy. The subsequent cleanup mission relied primarily on the Marines who gradually boarded the ship. If he

hurried, he should have enough time to visit Gamma VII.

…

Gamma VII is a shattered mining world.

Before the Cataclysm, it had a population of approximately 800 million. Living conditions on the planet were harsh, and the surface was completely uninhabitable.

Historically, the planet’s subsurface held abundant mineral resources. Human colonists, drawn to the ore veins, carved vast and complex mine structures into the subterranean environment, creating an intricate network of underground cities. Increasing numbers of miners, and their descendants, settled in the underground cities, carrying out the extraction and smelting of minerals.

Later, the precious mineral deposits gradually depleted, and the planet’s value declined accordingly. On the eve of the Cataclysm, the planet’s economy had already declined significantly, relying on dwindling mineral resources and industrial processing to maintain a modest income and meet Imperial taxes. Residents, utilizing geothermal resources underground, engaged in modest agricultural production and the processing of synthetic starch, sustaining the 800 million people.

Following the Cataclysm, the world rapidly collapsed. With the lack of interstellar trade, internal food supply and water purification systems were disrupted. Famine and water shortages caused widespread death on the planet. Then, in desperation, those who heeded the Father’s voice founded the Immortal Cult, and a brutal civil war erupted within the planet.

The Alliance’s Dark Side expedition had just arrived near the planet and confirmed that Gamma VII was in dire straits and its value was low. Risking heavy casualties by advancing into underground cities, where large armies, armor, and artillery were inadequate, to slowly eliminate the cult regime, which had already gained a complete advantage in the war, was a costly undertaking.

After discussion, the staff at the Southern Expedition’s headquarters proposed a plan for handling the planet: a squadron, assisted by a team of Unforgotten Warriors, would establish six evacuation points underground for two months. They would identify and relocate as many Loyalists as possible. At

the end of the two-month period, the Alliance would withdraw all surface and underground military forces and launch a devastating bombardment of the planet.

Incinerator torpedoes would be ineffective; deep within the dungeons, there might still be a number of resilient Nurgle followers surviving.

Using higher-level neutron bombardment wasn’t guaranteed to be effective.

As for the most powerful quasar destroyer, it would be a permanent solution. After all, shattering the planet would render any Nurgle monsters within it, no matter how resilient they were, impossible.

However, both neutron bombardment and quasar destroyer were significantly more expensive than conventional incinerator torpedoes, even

more expensive than the planet itself.

It wasn’t worth it.

However, after contacting the natives of Gamma VII and with their help, a new plan was devised.

The powerful on Gamma VII had no desire to perish with the planet. They eagerly awaited the Alliance’s rescue and escape from this cesspool. They also provided the Alliance with key underground city blueprints, indicating which areas to bomb. Using conventional naval gunfire, they could demolish the entire surface dungeon in about three days. By

then, there would undoubtedly be surviving Nurgle followers or even normal humans, but they would be trapped underground, unable to escape.

When Gu Hang arrived at Gamma VII, the evacuation plan had already reached its 47th day.

By then, the entire Southern Front Command was aware of the arrival of their great Governor-General. However, Gu Hang instructed the Southern Front’s Commander-in-Chief, De Villiers, to continue his duties and leave him alone.

Upon his arrival, he first identified the Unforgotten Oath squad operating in the planet’s dungeons.

Without Gu Hang’s efforts, these stealthy individuals would have been difficult to locate.

After their capture, combined with the information they had previously passed on to the Chapter’s higher-ups, which Gu Hang had extracted from their souls, and the information they had gathered on the planet, Gu Hang was able to confirm the supposed Fallen Angel’s final location.

Meanwhile, the team’s actions made Gu Hang sneer, concluding that his handling of the Unforgotten Oath was not a major issue.

Their original mission was to cooperate with the Alliance’s mortal legions to establish a safe zone underground, shelter the civilian population, and suppress the Chaos forces for two months.

They initially did so, but halfway through, upon discovering traces of the Fallen Angel, they massacred the Alliance troops who first discovered the location and wiped out the entire line of inquiry that reported the information. They acted quite covertly, but the unexplained disappearance of an entire elite special forces battalion, capable of penetrating deep into enemy territory, coupled with the deaths of key personnel at multiple intelligence nodes, was a source of considerable concern to the Alliance military.

The frontline commander, an Army brigadier general, repeatedly dispatched troops to investigate, but all his dispatches vanished.

The Brigadier General, believing a large enemy force had appeared at the location, sent a reconnaissance request to the Unforgotten Space Marines.

The Unforgotten squad responded and falsely reported a large enemy concentration there, which had since vanished.

This claim, inconsistent with reality, aroused the Brigadier General’s suspicions. However, just as the investigation began, the team was assassinated by Unforgotten warriors, and the Brigadier General subsequently died.

This chapter’s Bloodsworn prioritized the pursuit and concealment of the Fallen Angels above all else.

They were truly insane.

And this was a minor, insignificant battle.

If the Unforgotten were not eliminated, what if they went berserk during some crucial battle? Wouldn’t that be a disaster for the Alliance? After

eliminating the traitor in the squad, Gu Hang, following their earlier trail, led fifty Pure Fire Brotherhood Space Marines, gathered by Alvin and Shaka from elsewhere, and searched the complex underworld of Gamma VII for sixteen days.

During this period of time, the evacuation period of two months initially estimated by the Alliance Army has already exceeded.

But it doesn’t matter, Gu Hang requested that the evacuation period be extended to three and a half months.

In the first place, the evacuation could not be completed in two months, and this time was set only for the efficiency of the expedition. In essence, it means giving up more than half of the loyal population.

Now, more loyalists may be saved.

And Gu Hang, on the seventeenth day, found the hiding place of the fallen angel.

They were two “black knights”.

Dark black was used as the base color of the paint, and silver was used as the matching color. The scarlet sword wing logo was inlaid on the edge of the armor, which was consistent with the emblem of the Death Angels.

Is this the fallen angel? The color of the armor paint is different from the dark green of the current Death Angels.
