Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 827
Chapter 822, The most loyal Space Marine?
The battle continued aboard the Unforgotten’s starship.
Honestly, the Unforgotten Chapter still held the upper hand.
Relying solely on the five or six hundred elite Marines and thirty or so Space Marines aboard to defeat the Unforgotten through boarding was clearly unrealistic.
Their initial tactical objective wasn’t to destroy the ship, but rather to delay and slow it, allowing the main force of the Alliance fleet to catch up—and even that proved exceedingly difficult.
But now, that wasn’t an issue.
Gu Hang was here.
With his abilities, barring a Grand Demon-level opponent, he could single-handedly eliminate all the “traitors” aboard. If
a Grand Demon did arrive, then… then he’d have to flee.
It wasn’t that Gu Hang couldn’t handle a Grand Demon, but that he couldn’t do so from his current location on this ship.
He wasn’t truly present.
Even Gu Hang couldn’t completely ignore the physical distances of the real universe. It was impossible for him to reach such a distant place in just a few minutes.
Even with Shaka, an A-rank psyker, connected to the starship’s active energy chamber and providing him with a long-range beacon, it would have been impossible for him to cover such a vast distance in just a few minutes.
Gu Hang, who had arrived here, was actually just a psychic incarnation.
Only in this way could he reach his destination so quickly.
Fortunately, Milorila, Chapter Master of the Unforgotten Oath, was only of such caliber, at best a Chapter Champion, not the Emperor’s Champion or even the Emperor’s Chosen. Otherwise, crushing him would have been far more difficult.
Even such a psychic incarnation could not be released everywhere. Besides requiring an A-rank psyker and a vast energy reserve to support the incarnation’s arrival, there was another, even more demanding condition: the psyker acting as the beacon must possess a treasure personally bestowed by him—the Psychic Crown.
This object was essentially a seed of power from the Storm Kingdom, belonging to Gu Hang. It can only take root and sprout, and only after receiving sufficient nourishment and being activated by Gu Hang personally from a distance, can it form an incarnation.
These power seeds and psychic crowns, like the conditions for building the Queen of Glory-class battleships and forging relic-level weapons, require him to separate a bit of the Warp Essence from his own kingdom of God.
Although the amount of Warp Essence required to create the psychic crown is insignificant compared to the cost of creating the Queen of Glory, it is at least similar to the cost of creating relic weapons.
Gu Hang cannot create too much, otherwise his own power will be greatly reduced.
When facing opponents at the level of Great Demons and Chaos Champions, he is not afraid. However, with Gu Hang’s understanding of the Warp, he deeply understands that the enemies he will face in the future will not be just at this level.
The Warp holds entities of the caliber of God-Emperors and Great Demons; some exceptionally powerful Daemon Princes require vigilance; and some powerful xenos races also require caution…
These top-tier combatants are usually either there or not. Gu Hang knows his own strength; his presence on the battlefield can have a profound impact on the balance of victory. If an equally powerful opponent emerges and his own forces can’t keep up, the Alliance will inevitably suffer defeat in crucial battles.
The Storm Kingdom, while vast, can’t withstand excessive fragmentation.
Gu Hang must maintain sufficient strength to counter these potential top-tier opponents.
The reason he gave Shaka one of the precious Psychic Crowns was primarily because he had previously intrigued the “little secret” of the Unforgotten Chapter.
Gu Hang possesses a strong desire for control over his core area and cannot tolerate such an uncontrollable factor.
An entire Space Marine Chapter can still be crucial at crucial moments. A single misstep could lead to significant losses, which would be disastrous.
He was deeply interested in understanding the true nature of the Unforgotten Oath.
Although this chapter wasn’t included in the system’s dashboard, the key difference was that Gu Hang couldn’t redeem the Unforgotten Oath’s gene-seed, resulting in a loss of two thousand slots. However, if he asked them to hand over their seeds and they cooperated, Gu Hang could place talented youngsters trained by the system to the T1 level and undergo political commissar training into their chapter.
At this stage, Gu Hang selected the best of the best. Alvin and Shaka, in particular, were the best of the best from the same batch.
Alvin, after completing his gene-seed implantation and accelerating his growth, could reach Veteran and Exemplary Warrior levels in the chapter’s training dashboard. He could then move up a level and reach Company Champion.
This reached the upper limit of the chapter’s training capabilities.
If that were all, it wouldn’t be enough for Gu Hang to devote significant attention. Of the hundreds of youngsters sent to the Unforgotten Oath, at least eleven reached this level.
From this perspective, the gene-seed of the Unforgotten Oath is of quite high quality. Unlike some of the lesser gene-seeds Gu Hang obtained, only 2%-3% of them could be trained to Company Champion; it’s also stronger than ordinary gene-seed, which is 5%-10%; it’s almost on par with the gene-seed of the Phoenix and Blood Sharks, which is around 10%-15%.
Perhaps the original gene-seed of a startup group would be even more effective, but unfortunately, Gu Hang hasn’t obtained it in bulk.
The gene-seed of the Unforgotten Oath is at least on par with the Phoenix and Blood Sharks.
And Alvin, among these eleven Company Champions, is particularly outstanding. Not only does he consistently outperform the other newly trained Company Champions, but he also has even greater potential.
Company Champion represents the training ceiling for the group’s functions, but it’s not the upper limit for the entire system.
Gu Hang can still see his name on the hero panel.
Enlightened and transformed into a hero, his strength increased further. After entering the Unforgotten Oath and officially joining the war, Gu Hang kept a close eye on him. When he saw his ‘experience’ was full and ready for a further level up, he generously used his Favor Points—after all, the cost of upgrading a single character wasn’t that high—to give him a boost.
Now, building on his Company Champion foundation, he’d reached SR rarity and a Level 6 rank.
This put him on the brink of Chapter Champion, with just the final push needed.
He could probably reach Level 7, Chapter Champion. At Level 9, Gu Hang would bestow a little more ‘Divine Favor,’ similar to how he had done with Martins. With the Storm Kingdom adding Favors, his strength would reach the level of Emperor Champion.
If their rarity could reach SSR, Gu Hang could even increase his divine power, perhaps even reaching the level of the Emperor’s Chosen—then he could face the Great Demon head-on.
Of course, Alvin still had a long way to go before reaching that level, depending on his personal development. Martins hadn’t even reached that level yet.
But Gu Hang still had high hopes for them.
The alliance couldn’t just rely on him as the sole top fighter; he’d be stretched thin.
As for Shaka, his A-rank Psychic’s strength was already quite impressive. Unfortunately, his potential as a Space Marine was rather modest, having failed to even reach the level of a team champion. Otherwise, his performance could have been even higher.
Fortunately, he was eligible for enlightenment in the Hero interface, and with future development, he might even reach the power of an S-rank Psychic. Furthermore, even at his current level, his A-rank Psychic power was strong enough to utilize the Psionic Crown and summon Gu Hang’s avatar.
With these two exceptional individuals in different fields, Gu Hang hoped they would create opportunities for him within the Unforgotten Oath.
They had certainly fulfilled their mission.
With the complete annihilation of Miloriela, the Grand Mentor, along with the Chief Priest and the elite Bloodsworn Guards, the remaining enemies on the warship no longer posed a significant threat—especially after Gu Hang also found their Think Tank Director and crushed his head.
Alvin and Shaka, along with the remaining Brotherhood soldiers, would rejoin the landing Marines. They would then launch an operation to retake the engine room and shut it down.
With just a few hundred men, it was impossible to sweep the entire ship from top to bottom. At least there were still at least a hundred or two hundred Space Marines.
But shutting down two engine rooms wouldn’t be a problem.
If they encountered a truly insurmountable obstacle, a bolt of lightning would often descend from the ceiling, annihilating the obstruction.
That was, of course, Gu Hang displaying his power.
However, that was all he did; he didn’t go any further in his slaughter.
His avatar had limited energy to draw upon, and he had
to conserve it. Once used up, it would dissipate prematurely. He hadn’t forgotten his own
priorities. He needed to uncover the secret.
It was difficult to attack the Unforgotten Oath directly, given their submissive nature. An unwarranted attack would have a negative impact.
Many newly allied Chapters were watching.
Now, since the other party took the initiative, and he had the excuse of suppressing the rebellion, there would certainly be some negative effects, but it should be acceptable.
The secret of the Unforgotten Oath has now opened the door to him.
When Alvin and Shaka were fighting with their troops, and when the Alliance Navy finally caught up with the assault ship with its two engines shut down and sent more landing troops to participate in the battle inside the ship, Gu Hang had already found a secret room in the ship.
This seemed to be a secret archive room, which contained a lot of information.
In addition to these materials, Gu Hang had another source of information: the souls of the high-ranking members of the Unforgotten Oath.
When they died, the light spots that flew out of their bodies were their souls.
The souls of the dead should have returned to the subspace after the death of the physical body. The fate of the loyalists was the Emperor’s Golden Throne. The fate of the Alliance warriors was either to the Golden Throne or to Gu Hang’s Kingdom of Storms. Followers of the evil gods would be reunited with the various realms of the evil gods. The most common souls would enter the vast reaches of the Warp, becoming a wave in the vast sea of the Warp, subordinate to no one.
Those few should have been treated the same way, but in the hands of Master Gu Hang, these souls, meant to be taken by the Warp, were intercepted.
Gu Hang needed to corroborate the remnants of their thoughts and memories with what he had read in the archives to uncover the so-called little secret.
He quickly understood.
“So… the Angels of Death have such a secret?”
Gu Hang smiled meaningfully.
The Angels of Death were not only one of the Imperium’s founding Chapters, but also the earliest Space Marine Chapter to be established. From the earliest days of the Imperium, they fought under the Emperor’s command.
They were proud of this and prided themselves on their loyalty. This remained true even after the Legion was split into countless Chapters.
The Death Angels’ Successor Chapters weren’t particularly numerous, and their gene-seed was of excellent quality, but its adaptability couldn’t compare to the likes of the Infinite Warriors and the Golden Knights. Despite this, none of their Successor Chapters had ever been publicly recorded as traitors by the Imperium.
This was something to be proud of,
and something that had previously intrigued Gu Hang.
But now, it seemed, this was not the case. The Death Angels’ gene-seed wasn’t completely incorruptible by Chaos, of course. However, the Death Angels and their Successor Chapters had zero tolerance for traitors. Once a Successor Chapter, or even a single Death Angel, was discovered to have defected, they would relentlessly pursue and persecute them.
They called these traitors “Fallen Angels,” their mortal enemies.
Other Chapters dealt with traitors, of course, but none as harshly or drastically as the Death Angels.
Even more extreme, the Death Angels would erase all relevant records and all those who knew about them. This was true
even if the individuals involved were high-ranking Imperial officials or even loyal Space Marines.
Anyone who knows about the Fallen Angels will be silenced.
And the aforementioned matters related to the ‘Fallen Angels’ are not the most explosive.
The most explosive thing is that the former Legion of the Angels of Death once collectively betrayed the Empire.
That happened during the distant civil war.
After the Emperor’s ascension, the greatest crisis that broke out within the Empire was that civil war. The former eighteen Space Marine Legions fought each other in the civil war. The war swept across the entire Empire and ended with the victory of the loyalists.
The Legion of the Angels of Death was one of the loyalist legions at that time.
But who knew that they were once ‘traitors’?
