Chapter 821, Gu Hang Arrives

‘s tactical plan for descending on Alvin was quite successful.

He launched a feint, drawing off a wave of defensive forces. Then, he turned around and, working with Shaka, quickly stormed the engine control room.

If there was a choice, destroying the engine would be the best option.

However, placing a bomb powerful enough to destroy a starship’s engine would take time, and it would require guarding to prevent dismantling. After the explosion, there would be little room for escape… In short, it was a challenge.

Furthermore, a starship doesn’t have just one engine; even the main engine has more than one.

This was especially true for a destroyer.

While shutting it down would certainly affect the ship’s overall power, it wasn’t certain whether it would truly reduce its speed enough to allow the pursuing Alliance Navy to catch up.

Of course, in a desperate situation, destroying the ship along with its engine room wasn’t out of the question.

But that wasn’t the case right now.

They had another mission to attend to.

So, in the engine control room, they simply temporarily shut down the engine power output there and quickly retreated, leaving the incoming defenders empty-handed.

Of course, simply shutting down the engine in the control room without destroying it wasn’t enough. Especially since they didn’t hold their ground and were quickly recaptured, the deactivated engines were quickly restarted. The entire assault ship’s speed dropped briefly before quickly picking up again.

Meanwhile, the team led by Alvin and Shaka had already reached the starship’s power bay.

There, they encountered strong resistance.

Although only a few veterans of the Chapter were guarding the area, there were a large number of elite and highly motivated mortal auxiliary forces. The layers of defense set up throughout the starship’s interior offered a resolute resistance, making the battle difficult for Alvin and his team.

However, their goal wasn’t to actually penetrate the power bay.

Alvin remembered clearly what Shaka had said to him before boarding the ship:

“Get me within 500 meters of the energy chamber, and this will be over.”

And now, they had reached that 500-meter mark.

They continued to press forward, but their fighting wasn’t decisive, just for show.

As long as no one threatened Shaka, it was fine. He had closed his blue-glowing eyes, muttering to himself.

Still, the threat arrived quickly.

They were facing a mature warband with centuries of experience.

Three minutes after they advanced to within 500 meters of the energy chamber, Milorila’s scarlet cape finally appeared.

The Grand Master’s relic sword, before Alvin’s eyes, slashed through the chest of a Pure Fire Brotherhood soldier, repelling their renewed attack on the energy chamber.

“Your stubbornness disgusts me, Alvin,” Milorila’s voice echoed simultaneously from thirty-six directions, the single eye on the hilt of his sword glowing a dangerous red.

Alvin initially ignored him, simply ordering a retreat. The entire force moved towards Shaka’s position and began to tighten their defenses.

But this effort proved difficult.

Milorila had arrived with an entire contingent of his Blood Guards. They were arguably the Chapter’s most elite, fully-fledged unit, numbering over thirty warriors, equipped with the Chapter’s best equipment, and each one a paragon of warrior skill.

Milorila, the Grand Master, equivalent to the Chapter Master, was himself the Chapter’s strongest.

He was accompanied by the Chapter’s Chief Chaplain and the Blood Guards’ Standard Bearer. Both of them were even more formidable than Nata, the Captain of the Third Company, who had previously died at Alvin’s hands.

Alvin wouldn’t necessarily be a match for any of these three, let alone all of them together? Furthermore, they were surrounded by Blood Guards, nearly twice as many as his own.

It was all over.

Now it was Shaka’s turn.

Although, the guy hadn’t moved for several minutes since closing his eyes, which had left Alvin feeling a little uneasy. But regardless of whether he had truly believed Shaka’s words before, he now had no choice but to believe that Shaka could truly save them.

He forced himself not to look in Shaka’s direction, instead staring directly at Milorila, angrily swearing,

“Traitor! You’re unworthy of the Unforgotten Oath. You’ve insulted the Chapter!”

“I’m unworthy? Do you think that Alliance members like you, who have only been in the Chapter for a few years and haven’t even fully absorbed its culture, are worthy of being members?”

Hearing Milorila’s response, Alvin felt delighted.

Yes, that’s it. Let’s chat a little more and troll each other.

I’m waiting for time, while you’re waiting for death!

He retorted, “Of course! We are loyal to humanity, to the Imperium, and to the Alliance! No matter what culture the Chapter possesses, this foundation cannot be betrayed. And betraying it…”

“Enough!” Milorila interrupted Alvin with disgust. “Allowing you two more sentences is already the greatest mercy I can offer. Now, prepare to die…”

Just as Alvin tensed, bracing himself for a desperate battle,

the next moment, a vibration beyond sound suddenly shattered all the echoes of the Warp.

Gu Hang’s arrival caused a discontinuity in time—one moment, the place was filled with shrieking, the next, all sound was swallowed by a silence as absolute zero.

Alvin felt as if both of his hearts had stopped beating simultaneously.

The figure who had appeared countless times in Alliance promotional videos suddenly appeared, standing between Milorila and Alvin.

“You did well.” Gu Hang half-turned his head and smiled at Alvin.

From his profile, Alvin sensed that the Governor’s eyes were like stars. His voice, like a warm spring breeze, suddenly rekindled Alvin’s nearly stopped heart.

However, these feelings were completely different for the Space Marines of the Unforgotten Vow across from him.

Milorila was filled with shock.

Why was Gu Hang here?

No intelligence had ever mentioned Gu Hang’s presence on the southern front of the Dark Side Expedition!

How could he possibly be on a ship of the Unforgotten Vow?

After a moment of shock, Milorila gritted his teeth, seized his relic sword, and charged at Gu Hang.

Whatever the reason, he was now before him. Gu Hang was said to be a supreme psyker. His only chance now was to dash to his side and slay him with a single blow before he could unleash his legendary psychic powers, feared even by Holy Terra.

Perhaps this was his only chance.

Alvin, basking in the spring breeze, saw Milorila’s swift charge.

His eyes widened instantly, and he yelled, “Look out!” He thrust his feet, ready to charge forward to block the Governor’s blow.

But his explosive speed was far slower than Milorila’s.

He’d barely taken two steps when Milorila had already crossed half the distance between him and Gu Hang.

Alvin mentally screamed, “No!” But the next moment, he froze awkwardly in his spot.

He saw the fierce Chapter Master of the Unforgotten Oath also frozen in place.

Gu Hang simply raised his hand, a hollow grip, and Milorila was immobilized. The Sword of Atonement, a sacred relic so relentlessly mentioned in Chapter history, with its single eye on the hilt, suddenly began to deconstruct.

The Grand Master’s scream faded into silence. His exquisitely crafted power armor, inlaid with medals and patterns, was undergoing a physical and systemic reformatting.

As Shaka knelt on one knee, the sparks from his psychic crown dissipated into a stream of data three meters around the Governor. Alvin watched as Milorila’s flesh began to take on a certain perfection—every cell fissioning according to the golden ratio, every drop of blood undergoing fractal iteration. This “ordering” that transcended the laws of physics was more terrifying than any torture.

“Why… why…” The Grand Master’s vocal cords rattled like gears in the process of ordering. “You are absolutely not human… How could a being like you… obey humans…”

The Governor’s gaze swept over Milorila’s fractalized form and chuckled softly. “Don’t confuse cause and effect. It’s not about obeying humans. I am human. This is just the next stage of psychic evolution. How can it change my very nature as a human?”

Gu Hang spoke without a blush.

The Emperor constantly claimed to be human, so how could I claim otherwise?

Milorila wanted to retort, but it was pointless. When the light in his eyes flickered for the last time, the image that remained on his retina was not reality, but countless self-replicating Gu Hangs, folding the illusory universe into his desired form, as if it were half of a toy. Before his consciousness faded, he finally understood—the true terror wasn’t chaotic disorder, but the cold rationality that compressed infinite possibilities into absolute formulas.

And after his consciousness faded, Gu Hang gathered several fragments of aura into his palms.

As his gaze swept across the battlefield, nearly every veteran of the Unforgotten Chapter found themselves unable to move.

The Governor turned and walked toward the airlock, his steps measured to the nanosecond. The folds of his executive robes seemed to reflect the cantilever of the Milky Way.

“Clean it up.” This command, accompanied by a quantum-level pulse of psychic energy, triggered the servos of all the surviving traitors’ power armor to initiate self-destruction protocols, reducing the entire power armor to mere shells, devoid of substance.

As Shaka rose from the ground, the psychic crown on his head had dissipated, revealing his handsome features beneath his removed helmet. He gazed in the direction where the Governor had disappeared, muttering something devoutly.

Alvin, having regained consciousness, led his fellow Brothers to carry out the Governor’s orders.

The roar of the grenade launcher sounded again, but this time it was an execution shot aimed at the traitor’s power armor core. As Alvin smashed his warhammer into the still-twitching bodies of the traitors, he suddenly realized that there was condensation on the display screen of his visor – after witnessing the absolute power that transcended reality and illusion, even the genetically modified heart of a Space Marine needed time to calm its tremors.

He also observed that for every veteran of the Unforgotten Oath who was eliminated, some light points would emerge from the body and float in the direction of the Governor’s departure.

Alvin didn’t know what it was, he was thinking.

At this moment, Shaka suddenly pressed Alvin’s shoulder armor, his words carrying an unprecedented solemnity: “Never question all the ‘truths’. If you must know a truth, then you must stick to your belief: fighting for Gu Hang is fighting for humanity.”
