Chapter 807: The Fall of McGregor

Phoenix Fifth Company Captain, Person Wren’s steel boots clattered against the black jade floor, shaking the gold foil from the chandelier.

With a flick of the power halberd, the pearl curtains on the throne were reduced to dust.

One minister suddenly lunged for the hidden weapons vault, only to be incinerated by the ion shields;

another attempted to initiate the self-destruct sequence, only to discover that all permissions had been overwritten.

“Under the Special Wartime Act, you have the right to remain silent.”

Wren crushed Archavon’s wrist as he tried to reach for the hidden compartment, glancing at the festering injection wound in his neck. “The medical team will prioritize your treatment and ensure your health, and then you will face a loyalty review by the Inquisition.”

Actually, what difference did it make?

Looking at this guy, it was clear he wouldn’t pass muster.

But the process had to be followed.

Cain Archavon suddenly laughed maniacally. He ripped open his robes, revealing the Slaanesh mark on his chest. “You’re too late! Twenty years ago, when the Seventh System fell, I…”

The blade of the power halberd raked his tongue. Ren picked up the twitching creature and walked towards the throne room. “Don’t use your stinking mouth to spout things you already know. Save your energy. There are many Chaos followers who will have a good chat with you in the autopsy room.”

After the last resister was blasted to smithereens by the grenade launchers, and after all the remaining high-ranking officials were apprehended, the throne room’s dome was finally completely torn apart.

Looking up at the starry sky through the hole, the scarlet scar was conspicuous. But even more striking than the dark red background were hundreds of bright spots with blue flames trailing behind them.

They resembled stars, but stars don’t have such long flames.

It was a fleet.

They were gathering for the final, decisive battle in the Magre Realm.

Marshal Yan Fangxu removed his sweat-soaked command helmet, and the holographic sand table immediately projected the latest battle report onto his retina.

The adjutant’s voice echoed in his ears: “…Based on the results of this assault, the General Staff estimates that the resistance on Miting will end six hours earlier than expected.”

The Marshal, staring at the beautiful planet before him, said, “Tell the General Staff to deploy an additional 200 City Incinerators to Miting—this Chaos hideout requires at least three rounds of incineration.”

“Order the Priests, Inquisitors, and Commissars to form a joint identification team. After the basic incineration, tell me how many people on this planet are still worth saving.”

“Yes!” The adjutant took the order and left.

As soon as he finished speaking, Yan Fangxu turned his head and saw movement on the star map: a blood-red vortex erupted in the northwest corner of the global star map. A certain agricultural system, just three months old, suddenly experienced a sudden outbreak of subspace distortion.

The Marshal, already extremely experienced in such matters, almost instinctively called up the pre-emptive plan.

He sighed as he watched the purification fleet automatically dispatched.

Another of his adjutants came up and reminded him, “The appointment with General Gu will be over in fifteen minutes.”

“Okay, I see.”

He stood silently for a long time, not knowing whether he was thinking about the next conversation with Gu Hang.

“Marshal, General Gu is communicating.”

The moment the holographic image unfolded, everyone in the command center subconsciously straightened their backs.

For twenty-seven years, this figure shrouded in lightning has always been the most stable anchor for the Dark Side Expedition.

“How much has the casualty ratio improved?” Gu Hang’s voice was wrapped in the noise of the subspace storm.

“A 43% decrease compared to the first decade, we are…” Yan Fangxu called up the data link and began to report to Gu Hang.

In fact, Gu Hang had seen all these data, and after Yan Fangxu quickly read them over, he just confirmed them again. What

Gu Hang wanted to hear most was another thing:

“I want to hear your feelings from the bottom of your heart.”

The marshal was silent for two seconds, wiping away the electrolyte that suddenly flowed from his nostrils. “Last month, when I was inspecting the front lines, an eighteen-year-old private in the trench asked why his grandfather and father died on the same planet.”

Gu Hang’s sigh dimmed the lights in the headquarters for a moment. “Tell the children that the trenches they dig are the foundation of the future.”

“Yes,”

Yan Fangxu had indeed said. It wasn’t exactly the exact words, but the general meaning was there.

His military career had spanned nearly a century. He certainly understood that kindness is not the key to success. Many things in his heart, which shouldn’t be there, had long been tempered by the flames of war, at least not enough to affect his decision-making.

But some things had to be retained.

Otherwise, he might easily become prey to some entity.

Furthermore, Gu Hang’s psychic call wasn’t simply to hear a data report he already knew, or to truly gauge his subjective feelings.

Gu Hang also needed to assess the current state of his expeditionary commander.

The lessons learned from the Magree Space Government couldn’t be repeated in the expeditionary force.

Although the ground battle had only just begun, and even the enemy’s orbital defenses hadn’t been completely destroyed,

the outcome of this war was already sealed.

When the Phoenix Space Marine Company arrived, completely unbeknownst to these rulers, it proved that their rule had long since collapsed.

It was just now being buried.

According to information obtained by the Alliance, the central government of the Magray Domain did a decent job in the fifteen years before the Cataclysm. Although Cain Archavon opposed Gu Hang, an objective assessment was still necessary. They were able to connect hundreds of worlds in just over a decade, without any special assistance, and stabilize what was arguably the most stable region in the Magray Domain. This was certainly due to their contributions. Unfortunately

, this success was completely destroyed in the following twelve years.

The corruption of the central government of the Magray Domain must have been ingrained from top to bottom. Perhaps a minister, a favorite, or simply a common retainer, heard the whispers of Slaanesh and fell into the Hedonist mode, spreading this corruption to Cain Archavon.

And so began twelve years of corruption.

When the Alliance arrived, they were even astonished by what they saw.

Yan Fangxu’s headquarters had assumed they were facing a force traditionally loyal to the Empire, conflicted merely by political differences. Initially, many of the Dark Side Expedition’s battle plans were centered around striking down the leaders and persuading them to surrender. They prioritized psychological warfare

, supplemented by physical force. Even if they achieved devastating results, they sought to capture as many prisoners as possible, sparing their lives.

This was to preserve the vitality of each planet.

Even if they ultimately failed to change the mindset of the Magree Space Government, Gu Hang had already made a final plan: to let them go for now. As long as they stayed out of the way, a group of decent human worlds wouldn’t be such a bad thing. They could even be negotiated with, retaining their status and autonomy, simply paying Imperial taxes and supporting the Dark Side Crusade.

However, the Alliance, with this in mind, suffered heavy losses at the hands of Slaanesh’s evil magic.

While the Maegre Realm’s army certainly contained normal humans, accounting for over half, the remaining small half was almost entirely comprised of Slaanesh followers, many of whom had been transformed into grotesque mutants by Slaanesh’s influence.

Coupled with the sheer number of Chaos sorcerers, the Alliance, whose initial preparations had faltered, suddenly suffered a heavy loss.

However, Yan Fangxu adjusted quickly.

His swift change of tactics and his superior numbers crushed the enemy.

Furthermore, the Maegre military still contained a significant number of normal individuals. With their help, the Incorrigible were eliminated, and the Alliance’s progress was truly unstoppable.

To this day, they have reached the core of the corrupted government: Miting.
