Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 801
Chapter 795: Not an Isolated Island
Spiderweb Universe, but the Fox Moon Star Region, the capital planet of Snow Fox.
The sky here has remained crimson for thirty-seven standard days. A scar, like a festering knife scar, stretches across the sky, its edges swirling with mist, shrouding the capital in a dark crimson halo of eternal night. Jason Morgan, the region’s leader, stood beneath the prismatic dome of the observatory, gazing at the glimmering crisis markers on the holographic star map—planetary formations plunging into chaos.
Ever since the warning from Alliance Central demanded disaster preparedness across the entire region, he had synchronized pre-disaster preparations across the entire region.
But the disaster still came too unexpectedly.
In Snow Fox’s textile center, the binary control cores of all the looms suddenly began weaving blasphemous scriptures. What flowed from the assembly line was no longer nano-scale snow fox fur, but a blend of human hair and metal fibers, a “Hymn to the Father.”
The gravity regulator in one hive began to lose control at a rate of 5% every ten minutes. If not properly addressed, thirty million civilians would be crushed by their own weight within forty-eight hours.
Among the planet’s civilian currency, the Alliance coin, banknotes occasionally bore the portrait of Gu Hang, the Emperor, or the Phoenix Chapter emblem… which, at night, when the scarlet scars were most noticeable, transformed into the appearance of a Slaanesh succubus.
Several lower-class hives that had lost contact with the Alliance’s local government spontaneously began trading human organs. A healthy kidney was worth a week’s worth of food, and uncontaminated spinal fluid was in high demand. Black market traders even developed “pain futures,” using the intensity of neuralgia as a currency backing.
After the Great Rift appeared, a ship arrived at the Snow Fox Starport and requested entry. They had correctly answered the electronic verification signal, and their ship’s encryption number was also correct.
After the ship was allowed entry, an inspection revealed a coral reef of flesh and blood growing in the ship’s engine room, its gun turrets transformed into weeping bronze faces, and the crew, degraded by the Warp radiation into translucent gelatinous creatures.
The crew, unaware of their transformation, were stunned by the inspectors who had opened fire on them. Those who weren’t killed went mad the moment they were imprisoned and informed of their current state.
…
These events were only the tip of the iceberg. The Scarlet Scar’s impact was far greater. Similar phenomena were constantly occurring on the planet.
According to the star map, the Scarlet Scar was still far from the Fox Moon System. It passed through the southwest side of the Devouring Stars, splitting the entire Devouring Stars System in two. On the Alliance side, there were approximately five star regions; on the other side, there were eight. The central area covered by the Scarlet Scar, where the Warp flow passed directly, encompassed nearly seven hundred worlds.
The Fox Moon Star Region is actually at least half a universe away from the Scarlet Scar, or even an entire universe. The aftermath of the Warp has caused so many strange occurrences on planets, so it’s easy to imagine what’s happening in those places particularly close to the Scarlet Scar.
As for the planets within the Scarlet Scar, it’s a no-brainer; they’re all doomed.
While Jason Morgan was momentarily flustered by these extraordinary circumstances, the loss of communication signals, and the unreliability of the interstellar tunnels,
he had been forewarned and prepared various contingency plans. He led the entire Snow Fox Star government to combat and quell various problems.
Most importantly, the Alliance’s system of government provided planet-wide control, surpassing that of ordinary imperial worlds.
This isn’t to say that every imperial world is flawed. Given the vast base, there are always some that fare well. But in terms of average performance, the worlds under Alliance rule are undoubtedly second to none.
While each of the problems that have arisen on the planet may seem dire, they are not difficult to handle.
Poisoned looms were restarted, and those still possessed were destroyed. All copies of the “Ode to the Father” were burned in the Holy Fire. Anyone who had seen them, even unintentionally, would be imprisoned and released only after a lengthy recitation of the “Word of the Emperor” and multiple rounds of identification.
Meanwhile, teams of psykers, accompanied by priests and Arbitral Guards, would review the situation in the textile center. Working together, they would reposition the reality veil reinforcement devices, previously issued by the Mechanicus, in their proper place.
While this wouldn’t completely eliminate the situation, it would certainly improve it.
The out-of-control Hive Gravity Regulator proved difficult to deal with. It was not something they dared to reactivate at will. Ultimately, however, under conditions of accelerated deregulation, 30 million people were evacuated in just a few days.
This massive population, evacuated so swiftly, demonstrated the Alliance’s powerful ability to mobilize the grassroots.
Forget feudal and slave worlds; even worlds with modern organizational systems wouldn’t necessarily be able to evacuate 30 million people in a matter of days.
The search and destruction of the infected currency, the handling and suppression of possible cultist organizations, the cleanup of the lower levels of the hive, the verification and reconstruction of the starport system—
and so on—were rapidly carried out.
The entire Snow Fox Planet was completely resolved before it even reached the point of “chaos.”
Jason Morgan felt relieved.
While the problems caused by the Scarlet Scar were troublesome, they were far better than his worst-case scenario.
And as the head of Fox Moon, given the resources to spare, Jason Morgan would certainly not be content with success on the capital planet.
He began mobilizing personnel to actively conduct interstellar communications, collecting and organizing reliable communication methods and methods for identifying potentially contaminated information.
A large number of mechanical priests from the Aramita sect on the planet, priests and nuns of the new state religion supported by the alliance, psychic mages, and the anti-psychic forces of the Ministry of Justice…all worked together under the coordination of the alliance government.
They solved problems one by one, overcame difficulties one by one, and the results gradually became clear.
In four months, 90% of the worlds in the Fox Moon Star Region have reconnected with the star region government.
Government agencies at the star region and star region levels have begun to operate normally and perform their functions.
Although the star realm navigation is still difficult and people dare not cross the star realm tunnel to exchange materials and personnel at will, the light communication connection is enough to make people feel more at ease.
At least, after knowing the situation in the outside world, each planet also feels that they are not isolated islands.
