Chapter 779, Old Classmate

Arno was stunned by the sight of his old Space Marines lying on the ground in a miserable state.

These were real Space Marines!

How could they be chopped down like that?

How long had the battle begun?

A rough count of the bodies of all sorts of Space Marines dead here must have been sixty, perhaps?

Of those, Blood Shark warriors accounted for less than ten.

The disparity in power was truly enormous.

However, the battle wasn’t over yet.

Arno could still hear the relentless exchange of fire not far away.

The Blood Sharks were still relentlessly attacking the core area of the Wuji Palace.

Simultaneously, the sound of artillery bombardment descended.

This was the Alliance’s general offensive!

It must be emphasized that the Alliance’s target wasn’t just Yinbarshim. They wouldn’t be content with a single decapitation operation; they wanted to completely destroy Yinbarshim’s entire military forces, paving the way for the subsequent proxy government.

Given this, the hundreds of thousands of Solar Auxiliary Forces surrounding the Wuji Palace were a target that could not be spared.

The main force responsible for dealing with them is the Alliance’s over 20,000 troops, but it’s not just these men.

Sixteen capital defense divisions will participate. These are the officers of the Wuji Star Defense Force, and they will undoubtedly side with the Alliance.

Of course, these sixteen divisions, totaling over 300,000 men, are insufficient in numbers, and they can’t be deployed tonight. Most of their troops hadn’t received advance notice of the Alliance’s impending attack.

Although Yinbashim is blind and deaf when it comes to intelligence, he shouldn’t be underestimated. He keeps a close eye on the defense forces right next to the Wuji Star capital. A large-scale mobilization beforehand would surely alert them.

Currently, only one division has been mobilized to attack that night.

However, this division’s firepower is particularly formidable. Before the battle, they secretly deployed artillery, rocket launchers, and even missile launch bases.

All the firing parameters were pre-programmed.

When the time comes, unleash the barrage!

From a secular perspective, the Solar Auxiliary Army was undoubtedly an elite force.

However, no matter how elite they were, they were currently unprepared for combat. Under intense bombardment, heavy casualties were inevitable, and their elite strength was useless.

While a considerable number of night patrols and sentries were on duty in the dead of night, what could they do against the ferocious firepower coming from dozens of kilometers away?

They were even the primary targets of the first wave of attacks!

Another key target of the first wave was areas like headquarters and surveillance radars.

The second wave targeted areas like weapons depots, garages, and airfields.

Soldiers and armies need equipment to be effective. Artillery, reconnaissance equipment, armored vehicles, and aircraft were essential.

These too suffered heavy losses in the second wave of fire.

The third wave of fire only reached densely populated areas.

Most of the Solar Auxiliary Army was still resting. Sudden artillery fire, even with barracks, would not have saved them from such heavy fire.

After three rounds of intensive fire strikes, the Alliance forces, along with a local rapid reaction division that defected from Wuji Star, entered the battlefield.

Their goal was also very clear: to head straight for the vital points of the Solar Auxiliary Army.

All the headquarters of the Solar Auxiliary Army, from the army group level to the division headquarters, were still within their rapid strike range.

In the previous round of fire bombardment, these units would not be completely destroyed. Ensuring that they could not react in time and could not organize troops to resist or counterattack was the top priority.

The most difficult bone to chew was the responsibility of the Alliance’s Glory Guards. These elite Alliance warriors, all equipped with feedback power armor, had no problem completing the planned plan.

All that Arno Chenko heard on the communication channel was good news.

The Sun Auxiliary Army had virtually no way of organizing an effective resistance under such circumstances.

At least not before daybreak.

After daybreak, at least fifteen divisions of the Homeland Defense Army could join the battle; by the day after tomorrow, that number would rise to thirty-six divisions,

totaling six hundred thousand to seven hundred thousand men.

Even if the Homeland Army alone outnumbered the Sun Auxiliary Army by about 50%, they would still be easily defeated if a battle broke out—if not for tonight’s night raid.

But with tonight’s night raid, the Sun Auxiliary Army would have suffered countless casualties, including countless technical equipment. And what would have happened if they had been fighting against six hundred thousand to seven hundred thousand men?

But it didn’t matter. Even if the battle wasn’t particularly impressive, they would still be doomed.

What is the vast ocean of people’s war? If these six hundred thousand men couldn’t be taken down, in another month, the number of “rebels” here would likely be six or seven million!

Yin Bashim had done so much bad on Wuji Star that he was practically friendless.

At this point, no one would stand by him.

Arno decided the battle outside was no longer worth his attention, and his gaze returned to the depths of the Wuji Palace.

He planned to lead his men to provide support.

While the Blood Shark warriors’ initial assault appeared impressive, the outcome was uncertain.

After all, he had already reached this point, and since he was there, he felt compelled to participate.

Then, he saw a dozen or so Dragon Elephant fighters approaching from the sky.

The chaotic Wuji Palace defenses remained unresponsive to the approaching aircraft.

Their systems had been disabled. Arno knew that at least thirty Blood Shark warriors had previously launched separate attacks on those air defenses.

One after another, Space Marines, painted in a gradient from dim yellow to dark red, leaped from the Dragon Elephants.

They were warriors from the Phoenix Regiment, the Yellow Spring Gulls. The

Yellow Spring Gulls recognized the men Arno was leading on the ground as their own and refrained from attacking without warning, but neither did they pay any attention.

One hundred Space Marines formed a tight formation and quickly charged towards the center of the battle.

Arno, lagging behind, gave a wry smile.

It seemed his efforts had been unnecessary.

The seventy or so Blood Sharks were certainly not their full strength, and reinforcements were already ready. Why would he need the thousand or so he had on hand?

…

“If you had arrived any later, you would have seen nothing but the corpses of these scum,”

Xie Hong, Captain of the Blood Shark Chapter’s 9th Company, said to Gaspard Marchand, who was hurrying up behind him.

Marchand, Captain of the Yellow Spring Owl Chapter’s 6th Company, muttered, “I was going as fast as I could. I knew you wouldn’t be content. But you should have slowed down a bit, waited a little longer, and saved yourself from losing ten more warriors in vain.”

He was dissatisfied.

The two knew each other well, and their acquaintance extended beyond their Space Marine careers. After all, they belonged to different Chapters, and even if they did, their friendship wouldn’t have been particularly close.

But before becoming Space Marines, they were old classmates,

both having graduated from the Alliance’s secret Space Marine training base.

As the name suggests, that base specializes in training new Space Marines. They will study and train together, and then be assigned to the most suitable chapter based on their talents and personalities.

It was at the last stage that the two of them parted ways.
