Chapter 754, Before Returning

“It really is like a dream…”

“Is it a beautiful dream?” Gu Hang asked with a smile.

Ye Lixia was a little hesitant. After struggling for a while, she sighed and said, “I can’t really say… For many people, even if they can’t become a high lord, being the wife of a high lord is also a good thing, not to mention that some canaries have the ultimate goal of life like this…” “

But you are not a canary, you are an eagle.” Gu Hang said seriously.

Ye Lixia laughed, patted Gu Hang, and said, “So what if I’m an eagle? I used to be very ambitious and thought I could reach the highest position by myself, but I didn’t expect that in the end I still need someone to rely on…”

Gu Hang hugged Ye Lixia.

Ye Lixia struggled a little, and Gu Hang loosened his hold slightly. She just adjusted a little to a more comfortable position and continued to half-lying in Gu Hang’s arms: “But there is nothing much to say. The so-called highest level I have ever thought of is nothing more than being able to reach the level of Vice Admiral of the Imperial Navy. That would have caught up with the highest level of our Fofana family. My grandfather, and even the ancestors who created the Fofana naval family earlier, did not exceed this rank. In the Pegasus star region, in the Dragon Eagle star field where we are, being a naval admiral can only lead to the rank of Vice Admiral.”

“Even when I was young and frivolous, my most ostentatious delusions could not reach the level I have today.”

“Admiral, wife of the High Lord… Oh my God, I have never even fantasized about this level in my life.”

“But the closer it gets to this kind of time, the more scared I become.”

Gu Hang spoke to comfort her at this time: “There’s nothing to be afraid of. Everything you have now is the result of your own efforts. You have always been the supreme commander of the Alliance Navy. On the road to the growth of the Alliance, countless battles, big and small, have been inseparable from you. I need you, and the Alliance needs you. You will be one of the most important roles in the Alliance. This is not a guarantee I give you, but the power you deserve with your wisdom and courage.”

“Yes, I’m very proud that I can do all this. But the more proud I am, the more scared I am. All this happened too fast, how can I keep all this? Every time I think about it, I feel like I’m walking on thin ice.” Ye Lisia’s words were quite sad.

She paused and continued, “I rarely thought about it before, but after Xiao Jing was born, my thoughts have become more and more different. Perhaps this is the change after becoming a mother? I worry about the future more than before. I want to leave a better environment for Xiao Jing…”

“Then just do it like we did in the past. Every time we bring the alliance to a new place, we are building a better world.”

“You know I mean more than that. He will inherit from us in the future…”

“No.” Gu Hang interrupted his wife and said, “He will inherit nothing from us.”

Ye Lixia turned her head abruptly and stared at Gu Hang in surprise.

Gu Hang’s attitude was calm.

After staring at each other for a moment, watching Ye Lixia’s expression gradually transform into that of a mother animal protecting her cubs, Gu Hang finally sighed softly and said, “We will have very long lifespans. You gave birth to Xiao Jing in your sixties, but I can guarantee that you will live to be over 560, and still be vigorous and energetic. By the time you’re old enough to need a successor, Xiao Jing will be over five hundred. What can you expect him to take over by then? He’ll already be in the twilight of his life.”

Ye Lixia opened her mouth slightly, but didn’t know what to say.

She had considered these things, but she hadn’t realized her lifespan would be so long. After all, in her past, many of her family elders, or even the powerful and influential people in the star region, had the power and status to undergo life-extending surgeries, but generally, only once or twice, and that was it. After all, life-extending surgeries are expensive, and the cost increases with age. Only the most powerful and influential have the greatest wealth and, more importantly, the power, to afford a fourth or fifth life-extending surgery.

She didn’t fully grasp the situation for a moment, but now, after Gu Hang’s reminder, she realized with a start that, from the perspective of the Human Empire’s most powerful individuals, the sixty-year age difference between her and his son might seem significant, but in reality, they were of the same generation.

Furthermore, this remark only addressed Ye Lixia, not Gu Hang himself.

He was an immortal, meaning hundreds of years wouldn’t make a fundamental difference to him. By then, his son, Gu Jing, would be a frail old man, and his appearance wouldn’t have changed much from what it is now.

An heir?

No heir could outlive him.

And the possibility of Gu Hang suffering a fatal accident and needing another to succeed him was also extremely low. If Gu Hang, with his current strength and condition, were to perish, what heir could possibly turn the tide and save the day?

Even so, Ye Lixia refused to resign.

“That’s our son, our only son.”

“So you have to believe in him,” Gu Hang said, “You have to have full trust that he won’t be a loser who can only rely on his parents’ protection in the future. In this turbulent era, the stage has been set for him. He has a very high starting point, he will have the best education, he will grow up in the political center of the alliance, and he can always be exposed to the thoughts of the supreme ruler of the alliance, that is, his parents. When he grows up, he can go to where he can display himself according to his abilities and interests.”

“No one can embezzle his achievements, or in other words, as long as he doesn’t get into big trouble, he will be the most dazzling hero. Unlike normal parents, we can really watch how he lives his life.”

“At this point, what else is impossible?”

Ye Lishia said, “But… what if something happens to us? What if you’re temporarily delayed, like in the Battle of Aramita, when you’re caught in a brutal confrontation in the subspace? What if the situation is more critical and lasts longer? In any case, we need someone we can trust, someone who can take on the responsibility at a time like this. And who better than our son to take on this role?”

“This does not conflict with what I said.” Gu Hang said patiently, “Precisely because he has to take on all these responsibilities, he needs more training. But on the other hand, this is not a benefit, but a real responsibility. Kinship and blood are meaningless. After all, no matter what the final situation becomes, as long as I successfully come back in the end, I can get everything back on track; and if I can’t come back, then everything will be meaningless. Therefore, the prerequisite for taking on an important role is to have sufficient ability to prevent the situation from getting too bad before I come back. If Xiao Jing can take on the important task, it would be the best. But if he is not qualified, he cannot be forced to take the stage.”

Ye Lixia’s eyes were already a little red. A strong female general like her was no different from an ordinary mother when it came to her first child: “I just want him to live a good life. He is so cute and so smart…”

“He will live a good life. At the very least, he will have a peaceful and wealthy life.”

…………

Gu Hang’s family, along with the many high-ranking Alliance figures he had brought to Holy Terra, naturally had to leave together.

Everyone who came to Holy Terra had their own work and tasks, and so far, they had generally been completed relatively smoothly.

Gu Hang’s own tasks were self-evident.

Ye Lishia was also very busy. Not only did she have to attend many formal events as Gu Hang’s wife, but she also had to attend numerous “ladies’ gatherings,” socializing with the spouses of other high-ranking Imperial officials.

Beyond these, she also had to actively participate in gatherings within the Imperial Navy.

Although, her rank as Admiral wasn’t a traditional promotion from within the Imperial Navy, it had been granted to him as part of a political bargain the Alliance had secured during Gu Hang’s previous visit to Holy Terra.

However, this was still within the Imperial Navy’s system, and as an admiral, no one could veto it.

At this point, she had to shoulder the responsibility of liaison between the Alliance Navy and the Imperial Navy.

There were conflicts between the two sides.

The Alliance Navy, in theory, should be integrated into the command structure of the Imperial Navy’s Central Command. Financial allocations would flow from the Ministry of Military Affairs, to the Central Command, and then to the Alliance Navy. The Alliance Navy’s operations would also be under the command of the higher command, which could, when necessary, dispatch a commander to take over the Alliance Navy.

But these were all theoretical proposals.

Would the Alliance Navy accept this? Obviously not.

Would the Central Command accept this?

Indeed, they could.

While they were envious, gaining control of the Alliance Navy, just as they had over other Imperial Navy units, would mean gaining a powerful frontier fleet for free, a significant achievement.

However, they also understood that the Alliance Navy wasn’t built with Imperial Navy funding.

Similar cases abounded throughout the Empire. Many local government-built fleets simply didn’t want the Imperial Center to interfere. The lower the percentage of funding allocated to the Navy Command, the weaker its control.

The Alliance isn’t a target for easy coercion. Alliance leader Gu Hang is currently the most sought-after political figure on Holy Terra. The Alliance Navy, from top to bottom, is entirely built from the Alliance’s own system, leaving no room for the Imperial Navy Command to interfere. Even attempting to change it is futile.

However, this hasn’t stopped them from exploiting these issues.

The most serious demands are to wield power within the Alliance Navy; lesser demands are to install officers and commanders.

Gu Hang issued a clear directive: “You’re asking for nothing!

If the Central Command won’t give you anything, then don’t even think about getting anything from the Alliance Navy.”

There will be no transfer rights, and no commanders either. Certain officer positions on ships can be considered for negotiation, but only if the personnel meet certain qualifications.

This is intended to freeload on the Imperial Navy’s talent.

However, a certain ratio must be maintained, and they must undergo a probationary period and find opportunities for further training at the Alliance’s Zhongsi Academy.

Ye Lisia was responsible for all of this communication with the Imperial Navy Central.

She was truly busy.

Fortunately, the final result was quite satisfactory.

The Imperial Navy’s Supreme Commander, Sean Edwards, personally met with Ye Lisia, even bringing along an envoy from Chancellor Gallardo of the Ministry of Military Affairs, to finalize many details.

All parties were generally satisfied. The Navy Central hadn’t overreached; a thousand-man officer corps would be dispatched to serve the Alliance. The Alliance purchased some ships that had been decommissioned by the Navy Central at a relatively high price. The Alliance Navy and the Navy Central had established relatively smooth communication, establishing a “Joint Command Center” that was more formal than practical

. Similar collaborations were negotiated with generals from the Astra Militarum and the Alliance

Army. On the government side, Gu Hang brought some Alliance government officials with him to discuss the numerous details of implementing the “Alliance Plan” within the broad framework.

Even among the Space Marines, Chapter Masters Martins and Ewing had their own work to do.

Martins intended to return to the Phoenix family, carrying the glory of the Phoenix, and reestablish the Chapter’s prestige among the Phoenix Chapters.

The Phoenix Chapter now held the aura of being the second-in-command of the Phoenix lineage. Aside from the lack of the Glorious Queen-class battleships, the now-crippled parent Chapter was certainly not as strong as the Phoenix before its reconstruction.

As Chapter Master, Ewing also had to represent the Blood Sharks, who had just returned to Imperial territory, and rebuild their connections with Imperial officials.

He also had other concerns.

Although the Blood Sharks had enjoyed a pleasant cooperation with the Alliance during the last war, who wouldn’t want a better future?

The Blood Sharks’ demonstrated comprehensive strength also earned them a new respect. Indeed, numerous factions approached Ewing.

Gu Hang simply let it go

. “Go ahead and chat.

” Ewing’s high spirits faded after numerous interactions with politicians on Holy Terra.

It was all just talk, but in reality, very few of the conditions offered could surpass those of the Alliance. The few that offered conditions that were better, or even much better, were actually just empty talk, pure empty promises, and their credibility was questionable.

Ewing was no fool; he could see that.

In the end, he came to his senses, changed his mind, and honestly followed Gu Hang back to East Xinjiang.

After looking around, following the Alliance was still the best choice.
