Chapter 749: The State Religion Did It

Chapter 749:

After being allowed to leave, Gu Hang politely bid Zhang Yulin adieu and departed the High Lord’s residence.

He left the scene cordoned off by the Imperial Guards and stood still at the roadside.

Barely a minute and a half later, a hovercraft landed in front of him. The side door opened, and a messenger from within addressed him,

“Greetings, Governor Gu! The Prime Minister is waiting for you.”

As expected,

Gu Hang stepped into

the vehicle. The messenger didn’t speak to Gu Hang, so he sat quietly in the back, resting his eyes.

The hovercraft crisscrossed the vast palace for over an hour before arriving at a platform outside a tower.

It stopped, and with the messenger’s guidance, Gu Hang entered Qi Bodu’s office.

It wasn’t an office, but more like a palace atop a tower. A long, red carpet with gold trim stretched from the door to the steps. As the steps ascended, the Prime Minister sat on a throne adorned with gold and jade.

The hall was awash with lights, but the unique architectural structure and lighting arrangement created a distinct boundary between light and dark. The Prime Minister’s seat was situated on the highest, brightest staircase in the room, and Gu Hang’s progress along the long carpet felt like a journey towards the light.

This structure created a strong psychological effect.

Gu Hang was naturally unaffected by it, but at this moment, he didn’t feign pretense, instead adopting a more subdued demeanor.

He noticed that Qi Bodu’s signature affable expression had vanished, replaced by a serious, almost gloomy expression.

Qi Bodu was clearly in a bad mood.

The only thing he knew about what had happened today was that after Gu Hang met with the Great Sage Caul, who had made a surprise visit to Holy Terra, he had arranged for someone to keep an eye on Yu Jinwen. Then, today, Gu Hang had even gone there himself. Immediately afterwards, the Imperial Guards sealed off the area.

He truly had no idea what had happened.

He hated the feeling of being out of control; it reminded him of the Sun Lord’s reign thirty or forty years ago.

Whenever this happened, he would become enraged.

Today was quite similar.

But even if he was angry, he would not lose control of his facial expression.

On the contrary, the expression on his face now was exactly what he wanted to express deliberately.

He needed to let Gu Hang know clearly the seriousness of the matter.

When Gu Hang walked to the bottom of the steps and bowed, Qi Bodu slowly said: “What happened today? Do you have anything to explain to me?”

Gu Hang raised his head with a serious expression: “A big deal, a big deal that concerns the entire empire and the authority of you, Prime Minister!”

He started by raising the tone high and talking about things as if you were in great trouble… This set of things has been seen a lot in Qi Bodu’s more than a hundred years of political career.

As his majesty grew, there were not many people who dared to talk to him in this way. Occasionally, he would find it funny to hear it.

Or even angry.

If it were someone else, he would have asked the guards to drag the person away.

Isn’t this Gu Hang?

” I have to give him a little face.”

He opened his mouth, about to offer a sarcastic remark.

But Gu Hang’s next words were a step ahead of him,

and so startling that he nearly jumped out of his seat:

“Yu Jinwen has been bewitched and controlled by the aliens. It’s hard to say how much of his previous actions on Holy Terra were at their behest. There’s also a high probability that something has gone wrong with Yasdai. And, aside from the alien influence, Yasdai has likely sided with the Ecclesiarchy. The abortive assassination attempt on me two years ago was carried out privately by Yasdai, following the Ecclesiarchy’s covert instructions.”

After hearing this, Qi Bodu barely managed to contain his anger, but he couldn’t help but lean forward, urging Gu Hang: “Tell me more!”

Gu Hang smiled inwardly; half the battle was won.

Qi Bodu didn’t question why Gu Hang had dared to lead his CIA agents, whose identities on Holy Terra were no different from civilians, to attack the High Lord’s representative. The Imperial Guards were still very powerful, and they could handle any number of things. Meanwhile, Qi Bodu was completely distracted by what Gu Hang had mentioned. His mind was now preoccupied with the High Lord he had helped to establish, and the thought of something so serious going on behind his back.

This was far more terrifying than a simple incident that Qi Bodu hadn’t grasped.

This was a grave betrayal!

He smiled inwardly, but his face remained unmoved, maintaining a serious and solemn expression. He meticulously recounted the events that had occurred at Yu Jinwen’s residence.

He glosses over the details of the operation, the assault, and how to detect the undercover agents.

Qi Bodu didn’t care.

Gu Hang’s key point lay in the information he’d gathered during the interrogation.

In reality, what Gu Hang had uncovered couldn’t definitively determine whether Asdai, Chairman of the Devouring Star Domain, had been corrupted by the Dark Eldar.

Strictly speaking, it was likely only Yu Jinwen himself who had been corrupted, with Asdai also a victim.

But that didn’t stop Gu Hang from sparing no effort to cast the blame on Asdai.

Even if Qi Bodu were to seek confirmation from the Imperial Guards, Gu Hang wouldn’t be afraid.

Yu Jinwen’s misfortune was so grave and shameful that everyone in the Imperial Guard felt it was a serious matter. As the primary person responsible for his corruption, High Lord Yasdai, who dispatched this problematic representative, must bear the responsibility, regardless of whether he himself was responsible.

In fact, the Imperial Guard might even personally address this issue this time.

Therefore, Gu Hang felt no psychological pressure in saying this.

As for the details regarding the State Religion, those were uncovered during Gu Hang’s interrogation, but he kept them secret from the Imperial Guard.

This made sense. The State Religion wasn’t an external enemy. Their collusion with Yu Jinwen and Yasdai was simply a fragment of internal imperial politics, something the Imperial Guard wouldn’t care about. They could easily investigate later.

But Qi Bodu was different. Rather than the already grave threat of being corrupted by the aliens, he was more concerned about Yasdai’s collusion with the State Religion.

He knew about the assassination order sent to the Assassin’s Court two years ago, demanding the execution of Gu Hang. He had arranged for an investigation, but they couldn’t determine which side was responsible. The subsequent investigation had actually been ongoing, but in Qi Bodu’s mind, this matter was not critical and had a low priority, so he paid little attention to it. His subordinates checked it out, but there was no movement or urging, so naturally they neglected it and even stopped it.

Everyone was busy.

But they didn’t expect that this matter was handled by Yas, and that the state religion was involved!

This made Qi Bodu extremely angry!

My dog went to work for an outsider?
