Chapter 745, The Final Battle?

Gu Hang was filled with doubts.

He couldn’t understand why Asday would bother him, resorting to assassination.

He was even more perplexed as to why the Mechanicus, with whom he had only a limited relationship, would suddenly reveal this to him.

Since he had questions, he might as well ask them.

However, his questions remained unanswered.

The Archmagus, as if following a routine, simply continued with his previous words:

“My second reason for coming to you is to promote a trade treaty between the Mechanicus and the Alliance. We hope to reach 50 billion in total trade volume within three years and 200 billion within ten.”

Gu Hang nodded slightly.

Who wouldn’t want a trade agreement with the Mechanicus and the Martian Cult?

This was pure cash-in.

Gu Hang’s curiosity about the Archmagus’s purpose had only grown at this point.

He could see he wasn’t interested in further explanation, so he decided not to ask further questions, simply waiting for the Archmagus’s third point.

“The third thing I want to say is that I hope you, as Chairman of the Spider Web Universe, will run for the High Lord position in this re-election.”

“Wait…” Gu Hang finally couldn’t hold it in any longer, and with a wry smile, he continued, “This is unbelievable… The ‘Alliance Plan’ hasn’t been officially signed yet, and the Spider Web Universe Chairman hasn’t been officially appointed yet, and you’re asking me to run for the new High Lord position? Even if I were to compete, there would have to be a vacant seat…”

Gu Hang couldn’t help but feel that the Great Sage’s words were absurd.

There were only thirteen High Lord positions. Regardless of how Gu Hang could strive for one, even if he did, there would have to be a vacant position.

Unless he could launch an impeachment case against a currently incumbent High Lord and overthrow them.

But how easy would that be?

With the ‘Alliance Plan’ documents about to be signed, Gu Hang didn’t want to cause any further complications.

However, this time, he got an answer.

The Great Sage said, “The position is in the first point I mentioned. The position in the Devouring Star Universe can be vacated.”

Gu Hang fell silent.

After a long while, he said: “So, Great Sage, what is the price? What is the price? What do you need?”

The three things Kaul mentioned were all to benefit Gu Hang and the alliance.

The first one was purely one-way intelligence.

The second one was to send money. The Martian sect has no shortage of trading partners.

The third one was political support.

They were all free lunches that fell from the sky.

Gu Hang was scared.

What for?

After asking the question, he heard Kaul’s low laughter: “You will pay the price…”

“Great Sage, please make it clear.”

“You will participate in a war.

A final war that concerns the fate of the entire empire and the entire human race.

You will play an important role in that war and play a key role.

This is an inevitable fate, or in other words, no one can escape it.

And all I want is that you can stand in that key position earlier, earlier.”

Gu Hang could barely contain his expression after hearing this.

This was too mystical!

Literally, Gu Hang could understand some of the content. It was about a final war in the future, a bit like a doomsday theory, and he himself would be a key figure.

So eccentric? The Mechanicus, while a sect, did have religious beliefs, but Gu Hang himself had no interest in them, and the Alliance’s overall attitude wasn’t much in that direction. Whether it was the Ecclesiarchy or the Mechanicus, the Alliance’s overall attitude was: if you want to preach, go ahead. If you support me, I’ll provide a fixed grant, but you also have obligations. It’s up to you to believe in me or not.

Gu Hang’s personal experience with the Mechanicus focused primarily on technology, production, and research and development. He had little exposure to the religious side of the organization.

In fact, he viewed the Mechanicus’ titles like “Mechanic Priest,” “Archbishop,” and “Sage” more as “professional titles” than religious rank.

So much so that, at this moment, suddenly witnessing such a mystical Great Sage, he felt quite uncomfortable: Aren’t Great Sages supposed to be exceptionally rational and wise?

Why was he bringing up this seemingly unreliable “prophecy”?

Speaking of prophecies, Gu Hang suddenly remembered something else.

It was the image he had witnessed during his Storm Trial after learning of the prophecy pried from the lips of a captured Dark Eldar, relayed back from the Alliance’s homeland. It

was a Dark Eldar prophecy, a scene that had clearly stirred waves in the Warp, a scene that unfolded directly.

The image seemed unrelated to him, primarily depicting the Son of God who had founded the Infinite Legion, finally rising to power after countless ages.

However, he hadn’t forgotten the fleeting image of a star map within the prophetic image, a scene that seemed as if the entire universe was ablaze. It seemed as if a war of epic proportions had engulfed the entire human empire.

If there had to be a final war, the scene Gu Hang witnessed in his kingdom could be considered a precursor to that war.

War engulfed the empire, heroes awakened and emerged…

Thinking of this, Gu Hang couldn’t even muster a smile.

Cawl’s prophetic words seemed more than just sorcery.

But if they were true, it was a chilling prospect.

A final war that would engulf the entire empire and decide the fate of humanity itself—Gu Hang couldn’t even imagine how terrifying it would be.

He had experienced the largest war of his time, the Ironclad Swarm War. It had lasted fifteen years, with both sides mobilizing tens of billions of troops, including the Swarm itself. It had affected thousands of worlds, with a human death toll exceeding two trillion…

But that scale was nowhere near the Final War.

It wouldn’t even be enough to destabilize the empire.

The empire could even sustain another war, the chaotic conflict of Solaria. The region-wide riots there have been going on for over thirty years. Their intensity is slightly less intense, unlike the extremely fierce decisive battle in the Spiderweb Universe, but in terms of scale, they are definitely comparable.

And wars that are one or two levels smaller in scale are always being fought in various parts of the Empire.

Otherwise, how can we say that the Empire’s sustainability is a dead end?

But it is also sustainable. It will really reach the point of destruction and collapse, at least not yet.

So what about the Final War, where even this overall war situation is countless times more intense and terrifying than the current one?

If this is true, then the Alliance will definitely not be able to remain independent.

In other words, in this dark and terrifying universe, no matter how screwed up the Empire is, it is still the most reliable defender of the human race.

While Gu Hang was thinking, Kaul’s voice sounded again: “I need your most direct help. After an indeterminate number of years, your Alliance will accept my call and go to the five hundred worlds of the Infinite Star Domain to assist me in completing a critical mission.”
