Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 730
Chapter 728: My fellow tribesmen are cheating me
. Xernos Bloodcurse was now 100% certain he had been tricked. He
had been tricked by his own clan.
This wasn’t surprising. Dark Eldar trolling each other was perfectly normal.
Few races were more intense than the internal strife within the Dark Eldar, and the tactics were endless.
However, this time, he couldn’t imagine who was scheming against him.
It wasn’t because he didn’t have a choice, but because there were too many.
Could it be someone within the Bloodcurse clan who didn’t want to see him succeed? Someone he’d offended and was taking advantage of the situation?
Or was it someone from outside the Bloodcurse clan who wanted to trick him, and himself?
All were possible. But whoever was behind this, and whatever their motive, they had undoubtedly forced him into a corner. He had led his team through the Veil Spirit Portal, entering the real universe,
only to be blocked here. The Veil Spirit Portal had even been destroyed, but that didn’t really matter. He could just play hide-and-seek and build another one somewhere else. The sixty-meter-diameter Veil Spirit Gate was essentially a beacon, easily constructed. His ship had the equipment, materials, and manpower. The difficulty lay in opening the gate, requiring a tormented soul. But that wasn’t a concern. They wouldn’t dare raid escorted convoys. Instead, they would send small boats and landing craft, relying on their superior stealth technology, to stealthily circumvent the surface of human planets, raiding villages or even the lower city areas of the so-called human hives. They’d always be able to plunder the population. In fact, in his experience, they were able to do this almost completely unnoticed. Human local governments, let alone stop them, often took a long time to realize a large-scale disappearance, or perhaps never. A few thousand, ten thousand, or twenty thousand fewer people in the lower levels of a hive…wasn’t that just a normal fluctuation? But the Alliance had taught him a lesson. When he attempted a raid, he succeeded. The Dark Eldar’s stealth technology was sophisticated enough to circumvent the planet’s defenses. The most dangerous phase was over; the rest should be easy. Following past experience, he chose an inconspicuous, impoverished area, abducted over three thousand people, and then turned and planned to flee. But just then, a major problem arose: they were discovered! They had successfully navigated the most dangerous surface landing phase, so how could they be discovered while plundering people? Later, he realized that past experience had misled him: the Alliance’s control and management of the grassroots level of society was fundamentally different from that of the Imperial world. When a hundred people were missing, the grassroots reacted immediately; when a grassroots official was missing, the higher-ups sounded the alarm; when thousands were missing, the officials in charge of the area were sweating profusely, burdened with the responsibility… Of course, at this stage, they hadn’t yet realized the enemy was the Dark Elves, but rather the resurgence of an infestation. The planet’s local defense forces were the first to arrive, and were understandably routed. The Dark Eldar were still a formidable force. Their numbers were pitifully small compared to the myriad monsters and demons of the universe. If their individual combat capabilities were any worse, it would be truly outrageous. Forget the serious Black Bean Sprouts; even the blood slaves they commanded, transformed and controlled using flesh-and-blood technology, and the interstellar mercenaries who, for various reasons, had drifted to Comoros and worked for Black Bean Sprouts, were actually quite formidable. But their numbers were always a problem. This wasn’t their home turf; being held back would mean their doom. So, despite their superior force, they were forced to abandon their gains and quickly withdraw.
Upon returning to the ship, they encountered a truly formidable foe: the Alliance’s garrison on their home planet.
These were legitimate Alliance Army units.
Thanks to Gu Hang’s consistent cultivation of Boon Points, the Alliance’s burgeoning military production, and countless battles and victories, the Alliance Army had grown ever stronger. Their combat power surpassed even the Empire’s ordinary Astra Militarum, leaving a deep impression on Xernos.
His Blood Slaves and mercenaries of various xenos species were steadily defeated by the equally numerous Alliance Army.
Xernos was forced to deploy his truest troops—his Pureblood Guards.
These Dark Eldar, armed with guns, blades slung from their waists, and clad in jet-black armor, were deadly battlefield assassins. Though numbering only a few hundred, they performed a similar role to Space Marines, quickly defeating the Alliance Army’s two vanguard regiments.
With their help, they were able to secure the main force and successfully return to the ship.
The Dark Eldar, evading anti-aircraft fire and escaping the planet’s surface, not only gained nothing but also suffered heavy losses.
More importantly, their whereabouts were completely exposed, and they were delayed for a considerable period on the surface.
Before they could escape far, the human pursuit fleet arrived.
They were forced to chase the human fleet across the vast starry sea.
After finally gaining some distance, they accelerated to a jump point, preparing to jump to another system. But just an hour or two away, they suddenly sensed a human fleet emerging from the jump point. They had no choice
but to turn and flee.
As time dragged on, the human fleets intensified.
Even at this point, Xernos remained calm.
Although he hadn’t captured enough people and lacked the space to establish a Veil Gate, which meant their chances of escaping alive
were slim, they could still survive.
Knowing that those humans might have a way to sever the soul connection between the Dark Eldar and Commorra, Xernos would certainly not let himself fall into their hands. It would be better to
end his life than to be captured.
At worst, he would endure a period of voidness, and be resurrected by the Haemonchus with the Soul Receptacles left in Commorra. Although that meant losing all his blood slaves, the entire raiding fleet, and paying the Haemonchus a hefty price for his resurrection…
but in the end, he survived and returned.
But the most terrifying thing happened at this moment: they suddenly lost the connection to Commorra.
It wasn’t just him; all the Dark Eldar felt the same.
He quickly ruled out this being a human method.
They didn’t have the ability to sever the soul connection over such a distance.
It could only be that, on the other side, in Commorra, all of their Soul Receptacles were being controlled.
Only then did Xernos feel his blood run cold.
