Chapter 717: Going to the Hongmen Banquet Alone

a Hongmen Feast. Gu Hang was going to Holy Terra.

This wasn’t confirmed, but it was essentially inevitable.

He fully understood the dangers of the trip. He

‘d been talking nicely, saying he wanted to hear the Alliance Leader’s and Spider Web Domain Chairman’s thoughts on upcoming work, and that the war hero had to tour Holy Terra, allowing the people and officials there to meet Gu Hang.

But in reality…

what kind of agreement could be signed without Gu Hang’s personal presence? Was

Holy Terra so kind as to boost Gu Hang’s reputation?

On the contrary, it was more like an invitation to a Hongmen Feast.

Especially since the previous assassination attempt was still a mystery, with the exact perpetrators still uncertain.

Taking Gu Hang from his most loyal alliance and bringing him to Holy Terra, where their power was at its strongest, would make him a vulnerable prey.

If someone truly wanted him dead or refused to release him, it would be a real challenge.

A covert assassination, however, wasn’t something to be afraid of.

But what if Gu Hang was publicly and politically ordered to stay, to be imprisoned in the Black Prison?

He couldn’t openly resist, or rather, he couldn’t.

His psychic powers were immense, but alone on Holy Terra, he couldn’t suppress everything with his own might.

It could be argued that his personal power wasn’t great enough, not on the level of the God-Emperor. But Gu Hang still didn’t know how to reach the level he could observe the four evil gods and the God-Emperor’s realm from within the Warp. He called himself

a “lesser god,” but compared to the five great ones, he was a grain of sand compared to the sun.

On the other hand, if Gu Hang remained in the Alliance, the Imperial Central Government would be wary of any action. If the two sides truly turned on each other, the Empire would find it difficult to quickly organize a large expeditionary force to deal with him. To defeat the Alliance

, they would at least have to repeat the same lineup they used against Iron Armor, and that likely wouldn’t be enough.

The Empire would have to consider this carefully.

Therefore, if the Alliance was to be destroyed, the best way was to eliminate Gu Hang, its supreme leader and core figure.

After all, it was clear to all discerning eyes that the Alliance wasn’t one to survive without Gu Hang, and that they wouldn’t immediately replace him with someone of equal status and role. On the contrary, without Gu Hang, the Alliance would be, if not completely disintegrated, at least significantly weakened.

The best way to kill Gu Hang was to let him come to them himself.

Then, he would be alone, while Holy Terra was home to the Assassins’ Court, the Inquisition, the elite of the Ministry of Justice, the Golden Knights… and, if all else failed, the Imperial Guards wouldn’t tolerate anyone running wild on Holy Terra.

Yet, despite the numerous dangers, Gu Hang still insisted on going alone.

He knew all this, and the masters of Holy Terra were equally aware of Gu Hang’s deep insecurity. Yet, precisely for this very reason, they insisted on sending him.

It was a test of loyalty.

If you don’t even dare to come, how can I trust your true loyalty?

It is almost certain that if Gu Hang does not go, the relationship between the two sides will instantly enter a very delicate situation.

Gallardo also thinks so.

He did not say it bluntly, but earnestly urged Gu Hang to go.

The discussion on Holy Terra has basically reached a deadlock.

Under the financial pressure, the opposition has weakened. Prime Minister Luo Fei, who is the most opposed, has to consider the budget he can use in the coming years.

However, as Prime Minister Qi Bodu, who really has the power to make the final decision on such a major matter, he has only expressed his position once so far: he hopes to meet with Gu Hang.

This is the most crucial point.

It can’t be that the Prime Minister comes to the local area to meet Gu Hang, right?

Then Gu Hang had no choice but to go see him.

If he didn’t, he wouldn’t get his wish; if he didn’t,

he was doomed to face off in the future. Unless Gu Hang was prepared to go to war with the Empire within five or ten years, he had to go this time. He

spent a month arranging his funeral affairs – it sounds a bit unlucky, but it was true.

Then, he set off.

He wasn’t the only one setting off, but also three other important people:

Ms. Wang Qi, Admiral Ye Lixia, and Gu Hang’s six-year-old son, Gu Jing.

In other words, Gu Hang’s entire family came.

To show loyalty, he had to show it clearly and cleanly.

Qi Bo Dushou wants to see me, so I will go;

I will also bring my whole family.

The reason was to let his wife, mother, and son, who had never been to Holy Terra, go together to see the world. But the political implications were more obvious than anything else.

If an accident truly occurred, a situation Gu Hang absolutely did not want to see… then, to be honest, if something happened to him, none of his mother, wife, or son would survive. On the contrary, as long as he was safe, the three of them would be safe

. Moreover, with Gu Hang’s protection, perhaps the three of them would be safest.

…

With Gu Hang’s departure, the Alliance entered the “Big Three” era.

Besides Gu Hang himself, the Alliance’s normal operation relied primarily on three senior officials.

The first was Ossena Chenko, the head of government.

The second was Justice Lambert Hodgson, who oversaw the Alliance’s Legal Affairs Center, which included the Legislative Committee, the Enforcement Committee, and the Disciplinary Committee.

In addition to legislative work, the Legislative Committee also managed the judicial system, which served as the Alliance’s judicial system.

Under the Enforcement Committee were the General Police Department and the Security Bureau.

Under the Disciplinary Committee were the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Audit Office…

In short, the Legal Affairs Center served as a legislative, law enforcement, supervisory, and oversight role. For the Alliance government represented by Ossena, the Legal Affairs Center’s work served as a check on power.

The third major figure is the Ministry of Military Affairs, represented by Thaddeus.

He represents the military and, in day-to-day management, is responsible for the entire Alliance’s navy and army, including the Space Marines. He can refuse any troop movement orders; he holds supreme personnel authority within the military; he has the mission to organize the army…

but at the same time, he has constraints. He does not have the power to mobilize troops unless the head of government gives the order; he does not command operations; that falls to the Navy and Army Headquarters; and he does not have the power to formulate operational plans; that falls to the General Staff.

This is the temporary structure of the Alliance in the absence of Supreme Leader Gu Hang.

In reality, the Alliance operates this way regardless of Gu Hang’s presence. In theory, without Gu Hang, the Alliance’s structure would remain unchanged.

A government responsible for managing thousands of worlds and trillions of people cannot be crippled by the loss of one person.

However, Gu Hang’s absence has had a tangible impact.

People are feeling uneasy,

and this is even more pronounced than during Gu Hang’s last trip to Holy Terra.

The “Big Three” can only grapple with it, hoping for Gu Hang’s swift return.
