Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 667
Chapter 665, Stupid Work
Since the Martians had aided them from the outset, the Western Legion also possessed Titans.
However, their numbers were limited. As Salilius had mentioned, including Knight Mechs and Titans, there were only a little over fifty of them.
Fairly speaking, this number was quite a large one.
Since the Holy Terra government had come to me for help, I’d just give them a small token of my gratitude. Dozens of Titans and Knights—what more could they possibly want?
Generally speaking, inertia would dictate that even the most demanding and challenging battle situation could be resolved with a few dozen Titans deployed on the ground.
If not?
Then you can figure it out for yourselves.
Honestly, Salilius was somewhat dissatisfied with this situation. Everyone knew the Iron Armor was backed by the Alfonzo Cult, a powerful order with control over three Forge Worlds! Giving me these fifty or so Titans wouldn’t do anything for them.
But even if he was dissatisfied, he had no other options.
He had no connections that could impress the Martian masters.
So, this was the only way.
If they really did run into a massive force of armored Titans, then… we’d see what happened then.
It wasn’t as if he had no options.
Using Space Marines to fight Titans head-on was unwise and a waste. But if the battle truly reached a critical juncture, and there was no other way out, he’d have to be a complete idiot.
Forced by the situation, what could he do?
But now…
“Wait… what’s that?”
Salilius, having just finished sighing, frowned again.
His question wasn’t a question; he saw it clearly. The question was merely a casual remark.
Following his finger, Sage Barnes adjusted his optical vision and peered over.
He saw a gray-black torrent gathering from behind the enemy Titans and rushing towards the battlefield.
Countless Ironclad Space Marines!
“Don’t rush, don’t rush…” Barnes muttered. “Hold your composure and see how things develop.”
Salilius didn’t reply, but simply clenched his fist and watched.
Before those Ironclad Space Marines arrived, the Alliance’s Titans had already gained the upper hand on the battlefield.
In the brutal clash of iron giants, Titans from both sides fell continuously. Overall, however, the Ironclads suffered more Titans, as they were already outnumbered.
If this continued, this rare clash of titans would have resulted in victory for the Empire.
However, it was unexpected that the Ironclad commander would be so desperate.
As previously mentioned, despite their strength, Space Marines are still at a disadvantage when facing Titans and Knight Mechs head-on, and their chances of victory are slim.
Seeing these Space Marines charging, the Titans opened fire to intercept and destroy them.
These Ironclad Space Marines were not aboard vehicles like chariots, tanks, or aircraft. While the Ironclads certainly had no shortage of these, there was a reason for their refusal.
The firepower of a single tank or Space Marine aircraft posed little threat to a Titan; if more Space Marines were aboard, a single shelling would have resulted in even more casualties.
At the moment, the Space Marines charged forward in scattered formations. A single shot sometimes missed targets, as Space Marines were small targets and moved swiftly and nimbly.
Of course, if they were hit… even a Terminator with an energy shield would be dead. After all, a Terminator was so small, and the shield generators it could fit inside were small. While it might be adequate for blocking firepower of comparable strength, it would certainly be no match for a Titan cannon.
During the charge, the armored Space Marines were being slaughtered one-sidedly.
But so what?
Standing on the high ground, gazing far into Salilius, one could see countless Ironclad Space Marines charging out of the smoke and dust!
Countless! Too many!
The number of Ironclads killed during the charge was actually quite significant, surely hundreds.
Under normal circumstances, would precious Space Marines die in the hundreds during a plains charge? That’s unimaginable! An entire Chapter would be decimated!
This is why using Space Marines to confront Titans is foolish.
How could there be so many Space Marines to waste on the battlefield like this?
But Ironclads did just that.
And it worked.
Once a Space Marine got in front of them, the Titans and Knights, with their “little things,” wouldn’t be much of a match.
They’d often burrow into energy shields and void shields, making them incredibly difficult to hit with the heavy, powerful melee weapons of the Titans and Knights.
And the Titans did indeed have some guards accompanying them.
But what could infantry or even a few Sentinel mechs do to the Space Marines?
On the contrary, the Space Marines proved deadly.
The armored Infested warriors easily dispatched the Titan’s guards. Then, their methods of dealing with the Titans and Knight mechs varied.
Facing the smaller, less heavily armored Knight mechs, they would scramble up like monkeys, attaching melta charges to vital areas and detonating them to destroy them.
Facing the larger, more heavily armored Titans, simply attaching melta charges to them proved difficult to destroy. However, Titans also had their weaknesses: coordination between multiple operating teams was a challenge, putting them at a disadvantage against the close-quarters agility of the Space Marines.
Furthermore, the main door to the operating area could be blasted open.
Once that door was breached, how could the Space Marines rushing inside resist the attacks of a dozen or so operators armed only with small sidearms?
With the operators killed, the Titans were naturally immobilized.
Forget recovery after the battle; perhaps the Space Marines were still planting bombs in the control room.
Even if they didn’t detonate or destroy it, at least they couldn’t rely on this war machine in this battle.
In a matter of moments, more than a dozen war machines had been destroyed.
Although the Space Marines had paid a heavy price, it seemed that if no further intervention was made, the Ironclad could completely wipe out the Alliance National Knights here with only a thousand or two thousand Space Marine casualties!
This was absolutely unacceptable!
“No more waiting!” Salilius ignored his advisors, turned around, picked up his helmet, and hurried away.
He had already called for the loyalist Space Marines to assemble here, but it seemed they couldn’t wait for more troops to gather.
Moments later, the Kirin fighter he was riding arrived above the battlefield.
Ironclad’s anti-aircraft fire shot down many of them.
Titans, Knights, and even the Ironclad warriors on foot were equipped with anti-aircraft weapons.
Shooting down a Kirin would kill the Space Marines within it.
But just as the Iron Armor could withstand casualties, so could the Ortopis warriors.
Many Kirin fighters still survived. They maintained their speed, lowered their altitude to a dozen meters, and opened the hatch. One by one, the copper-colored Space Marines leaped out of the hatch, landed on the ground, rolled a few times as a buffer, and then engaged in battle with the Iron Armored Warriors.
Among them, the most prominent was Salilius himself.
Wearing the Champion’s Crown and holding the two sacred objects of the Chapter – a round holy shield and a spear with a strong classical atmosphere, he began his killing!
