Chapter 659: Unhappiness

the Alliance’s arrival, Salilius’s primary concern wasn’t troop strength, but supply.

The Western Front’s ammunition reserves, especially for advanced weaponry and equipment, could sustain at most a month of intense combat.

And that was the overall situation.

Due to uneven distribution of supplies and logistical disruptions caused by the war effort, severe ammunition shortages had already occurred on some planets. Despite battle reports, the front, depleted of ammunition and facing the Zerg attack, was forced to roll up their bayonets. Their bravery was indeed heroic, but the ultimate outcome was inevitable, they were completely swamped by the endless Zerg swarm.

Unfortunately, with such limited transport capacity, fuel supplies for transport ships were drastically reduced to prioritize the operation of warships.

There was no other way.

Warships had to be prioritized, otherwise, by the time the enemy pressed forward, their own warships would be unable to operate due to fuel shortages, which would be a serious disaster.

What’s more, the bugs coming from the east are easy to deal with now, as they are firmly blocked outside by the built defense line; the iron armor coming from the west is really a big trouble. Not only did they fight fiercely with Salisius’s troops in several major battlefields, but they also had the upper hand. It was only a matter of time before they were defeated. Moreover, they still had the spare capacity to send many small fleets and small troops into the hinterland of the control area of the Western Front Legion to carry out harassment.

Without the cover of warships, relying solely on transport ships, they could only become prey to the enemy fleet.

The arrival of Martins directly solved the two most troublesome problems of Salisius.

Before he set off, he was reminded by Gu Hang and realized that after Salisius’s retreat was cut off, the biggest problem and risk was logistics.

So when he came, he brought a large number of transport ships.

The abundant supplies were enough to solve Salisius’s predicament.

Moreover, the power Martins wielded was enough to directly influence the outcome of crucial battles, not to mention his most immediate request: the Alliance to deliver the necessary logistical resources.

After a brief discussion, Martins readily agreed to Salilius’s request.

Immediately thereafter, the Alliance provided the initial support for over a dozen battlefields facing the most critical situation due to a lack of supplies.

These locations were primarily concentrated on the western front.

With these replenished supplies, they could have easily stabilized the front on their own, not to mention the arrival of the Alliance’s elite divisions, allowing them to launch a counterattack without delay!

Several attacks were thwarted, even at one crucial battleground. Ironclad suffered only minor losses in each of these battles, but the cumulative losses were significant.

At least five hundred Ironclad Space Marines and Infested perished during this phase of the fighting.

This figure was perhaps insignificant compared to Ironclad’s potentially ten thousand-man army. But if you really look at it, five hundred people are equivalent to half a full-strength battle group.

The most important thing is that after many attacks were thwarted and suffered a lot of losses, the Iron Armor offensive had to slow down. They no longer dared to send troops recklessly into the heart of the western front to carry out all-round harassment operations.

The threat to the main force of the Solar Legion was immediately reduced.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Martins’ fleet even separated a force to escort a large number of transport ships to transport the important supplies needed by Salilius to him.

Among them, the most important ship-specific fuel, that is, those compressed energy crystals, directly made Salilius’s paralyzed fleet active again.

Warships could be deployed at full speed, transport ships were also operating, and they had ammunition and supplies sent by the Alliance to carry them.

It wasn’t that they couldn’t even operate their fleet before the Alliance arrived. However, with logistical support cut off, even if temporary reserves were sufficient, the psychological pressure would be immense. Warfare certainly requires more than just the present; it also requires looking ahead. To sustain the war, efforts must be made to conserve supplies, which inevitably compromised the fleet’s operational efficiency.

Now, without these concerns, efficiency naturally increased.

They even had the Alliance’s help. Alliance ships not only delivered vast quantities of supplies to Salisbury’s base, but also, under coordination, diligently assisted them in transporting these supplies to the front lines.

Without a doubt, the Alliance was a tremendous help.

So much so that in a recent report to Holy Terra, Salilius lamented:

“Emperor, if it weren’t for the Alliance’s help, we don’t know how many casualties we would have suffered, even complete annihilation. I must say this: In this war, the Alliance led by Gu Hang played the greatest role on the southern front.” “

If they hadn’t destroyed the Alfonzo fleet, the Western and Northern Fronts would have faced an immensely difficult attack from the powerful Dark Mechanicus. If they hadn’t conquered the Nepeta Sector and forced the Dragon King’s Spear to surrender, the pressure we faced during the offensive would have been even greater. If they hadn’t conquered the entire Alfonzo Sector, the combined strength of the entire Mechanicus would have left us facing the triple threat of the Ironclad Infested, the Zerg, and the Rogue Mechanicus. In that case, perhaps the war would have been lost.”

His words caused dissatisfaction among many on Holy Terra.

The reason was simple: of all the fronts, only the Western Front represented the authority of the Holy Terra government. Everyone was counting on the Western Front to achieve a resounding victory in a normal war and secure the most important achievement. By then, the Ortopis Chapter will be the High Lords’ direct descendant, its fleet the Solar Fleet, and the Astra Militarum the Solar Legion… Victory, and the ultimate achievement, will be the ultimate reward for the generals and officers. From organizing the legion to providing logistics, from making decisions to resolutely executing them, the political benefits and immense prestige await.

And yet, you, Commander-in-Chief of the Western Front, Salilius, openly claim the Alliance as the greatest hero?

You’re the Chapter Master of a direct descendant!

But whatever discontent you may harbor, it must be suppressed for now.

The fate of the entire Western Front Legion now rests in the hands of the Alliance.

Political benefits and prestige can only be achieved through victory.

Lose, or even lose the Western Front Legion entirely, and all will be for naught.

That would not only be a major blow to the dignity of the Holy Terra government, but also a serious loss of strength: even for Holy Terra, which is rich, powerful, and represents the central government of the empire, it would be very difficult to immediately reorganize a force of the size of the current Western Front Legion.

Those who are unhappy can only be unhappy in their hearts. They must praise the alliance and look forward to new changes in the war.

The remarks on Holy Terra will not affect Salilius.

He has already started meeting with Martins.

The two supreme commanders have already begun to discuss the counterattack.

At present, their situation has improved, and their troops are sufficient. The goal is definitely not just to maintain the status quo.

They certainly want to go further and win the war.
