Chapter 637, Thirty Consecutive Draws

at Aramita brought Gu Hang an income of 27 million grace points.

This income was slightly higher than the previous victory over Du Bo’s fleet that invaded the Proud Claw Sector,

but it was roughly on par .

In fact, Varuk’s fleet and Du Bo’s fleet were indeed of the same size. Although Varuk had an additional mechanical ark, two ordinary mechanical arks were far inferior to the power of the war ark.

Furthermore, Du Bo’s fleet had more battleships, and the battlecruisers were mostly captured, destroyed, or captured. In the victory against Varuk’s fleet, many fast ships had escaped, which contributed to the difference in grace point income.

However, the Alliance’s successive destruction of several fully loaded transports, resulting in the loss of many people, helped to replenish some of the remaining grace points.

If the monthly grace points accumulated over the past two or three years were also included, Gu Hang’s current “cash” exceeded 45 million.

Precisely because he held such a large sum of grace points, Gu Hang felt little pain over the Space Marine casualties.

Gu Hang had replaced the thousand Space Marines on the spot.

Ships also had many permanent residents, the so-called “ship families.” While that sounds nice, it’s essentially the lower-class crew members unable to leave the ship, forming families and raising children aboard.

These ship families, once found in the Imperial Navy or on merchant ships, were always overlooked. Being able to work was all that mattered; anything else was nonsense. The Alliance was much more reliable now. The Ministry of Military Affairs had its own requirements within the Navy, and the government’s civil affairs department had a dedicated agency for managing permanent residents aboard merchant ships. These crew members also had their own ranks. With ranks and military ranks, they naturally enjoyed the same treatment as Alliance citizens.

In their outreach, the Alliance government and military are actively promoting the idea that if crew members marry or have children on board, one partner should leave the ship with the child. This is a humanitarian consideration, to avoid a shipwreck and the loss of a household registration.

This isn’t mandatory; it’s simply a promotional initiative. If one partner wishes to leave, the Alliance government will facilitate this by arranging housing and employment in areas where relocation is needed. Those remaining on board will also sign a work contract with a fixed term. Upon expiration, they can choose to renew or terminate the contract, receiving a substantial amount of Alliance currency and moving on to another career. The Navy also has a retirement system for crew members. Even those who haven’t resigned or retired receive leave to visit their families.

Essentially, this aims to dismantle the illogical family dynamics of crew members.

While Alliance policy differs from traditional Imperial policy, tradition remains a powerful force. Furthermore, ships often roam the interstellar ocean for extended periods, often lasting months or even years. The key issue is that families may not return to their home planets for a long time. Furthermore, due to the war, even civilian vessels are often requisitioned or assigned to missions. The development of civilian passenger vessels has been sluggish. Whether on leave or retired, if crew members haven’t left their families’ home planet, reuniting with them on civilian vessels is challenging.

These factors have made the separation of crew families challenging. Currently, both warships and ordinary commercial vessels still have a large number of crew families.

Given this reality, the Alliance can only provide these families with as many medical clinics and schools as possible on board.

However, it must be said that these medical and educational facilities are far from excellent. They are merely basic, and it’s unlikely that they will be able to afford university education.

For these young people, becoming a Space Marine is a truly exceptional opportunity.

Of course, not everyone selected will become a Space Marine.

The Alliance’s two or three hundred ships together hold tens of millions of people. There are about one million people in their teens who are eligible to be candidates for Space Marines.

From this pool, a thousand Space Marines were selected, just about right.

The cultivation of new Space Marines would also come with many benefits. These one million young men between the ages of sixteen and eighteen would have a promising future. A small number of those with only T5 qualifications would be assigned to their own ships as seamen. The majority of those at T4 and T3 levels could be assigned to the Marine Corps. Their qualifications wouldn’t be bad, and their rank would rise quickly, certainly better than being a low-ranking crew member.

The remaining soldiers who could reach T2 level could be recruited into the Glory Guard.

The thousand or so T1 soldiers were Space Marines.

Gu Hang swapped out their gene-seeds and implanted them one by one in the ship’s biological laboratory. They would then be assigned to different Chapters based on their gene-seed.

Furthermore, due to the urgent need for troops, Gu Hang also redeemed all of his bonuses for accelerated organ growth and specialized Space Marine training.

Incidentally, they would all receive training from political commissars.

All of this cost Gu Hang one million grace points.

Just a drop in the bucket.

He still had 44 million grace points left. If the gene-seed supply wasn’t high enough, Gu Hang could have opened 40,000 cans!

Those were all veterans and elites!

Since these 40 million grace points couldn’t be used to directly improve his army’s combat effectiveness, Gu Hang instead used them on the lottery.

He kept 14 million as a temporary reserve, and the remaining 30 million was used for thirty consecutive draws in the million-level range.

The million-level draw has a 10% chance of yielding Apocalypse-class technology. With considerable luck, it came out on the third draw.

After that, the chance of an Apocalypse-class technology plummeted to 5%.

Then, on the 28th draw, another one came out,

and the chance dropped to 1%.

These two technologies were the Warmaster-class Titan and the Earth-blast Planet Destroyer.

The former was a higher-level Titan, more powerful than the Warlord-class.

The latter, however, is an extinction weapon even more powerful than the Burning Sky Torpedo, capable of truly shattering a planet into pieces!
