Chapter 616, Assassination

What if a problem is too difficult to solve?

Eliminate the person who caused it.

This is how the Alliance’s move against Aramita came about.

Based on intelligence gathered from various sources, the Alliance has identified seven assassination targets.

The others are manageable, but the two Magi of the Main Devotion appear untouchable with the Alliance’s forces on the planet. If the agents were to act directly, their numbers and combat prowess would be insufficient to eliminate the targets. Furthermore, mobilizing the Mechanicum forces already established on the planet and defecting to the Alliance’s side would also be a problem.

Moreau’s loyalists had been eliminated quite a bit in the previous rounds. While many of the remaining members could provide significant assistance and harbored secret resentment towards Varuk, they were hesitant to personally participate in the assassination.

The Alliance was also hesitant to allow them to take action.

They didn’t trust them.

If the operation failed and alerted the enemy, the Alliance would suffer a greater price later.

It wasn’t necessary.

But their assistance was still necessary.

Otherwise, how did the small craft carrying the Space Marines reach Aramita?

Without insider assistance, even small craft would have been difficult to land undetected.

After all, this wasn’t peacetime anymore.

The entire planet was enveloped by a massive void shield. Before the war began, the void shield wasn’t fully activated, operating at minimal power consumption to ensure it could be fully activated at any time.

On the planet’s periphery, the starport, along with its star fortresses and armed space stations, practically enveloped the entire planet. While the fully operational radars were primarily focused on monitoring the Alliance’s main fleet, a few small craft appearing at this time would have been easily detected.

Only with the help of insiders could they find a momentary intersection between the orbits of the space station and the star fortress, allowing the small craft, equipped with cloaking systems, to swiftly enter the atmosphere.

Of course, during this process, Aramita’s defenses did detect these dozens of uninvited vessels.

However, suppressed by some mysterious force, they chose silence and turned a blind eye.

An elite force of 1,200 men, including 800 New World Torches and 400 Honor Guards, entered the planet’s surface.

The operation was divided into eight parts.

Five of them consisted of 10 Space Marines, each accompanied by 30 Honor Guards. Their targets were all at the level of Archbishop.

Alliance agents provided intelligence support.

The key was a swift assault and a successful kill.

The remaining two parts were slightly more challenging,

involving two Magi of the Principality.

At least 100 Space Marines were assigned to ensure the kill.

This was especially true for the newly appointed Forge General, Anthony Farley. Not only were there 100 Space Marines present, but Chapter Master Moretti and Lacrosha were also involved in the operation.

The kill was imperative.

The remaining 500 Space Marines had a different mission: they were already hidden in the surface buildings corresponding to the Aramita Starport. At the start of the operation, they would immediately board the space elevator to the starport, arranged by the Oil Man.

This was a highly dangerous operation. Sage Farai placed special emphasis on controlling the starport. Even Alliance agents and the Moreau faction on Aramita lacked sufficient, trustworthy personnel to deploy them in advance. They could only ascend via an illegal space elevator and storm the starport at the very moment the operation began.

Assassinating Farai and storming the starport were the two most challenging steps in the operation.

After sending the operational order, Moretti was actually quite worried about whether the assault on the starport would go awry.

However, Lacroxia’s reminder reminded him that matters there were no longer his responsibility and that he had to learn to trust his comrades.

His most important priority was ensuring the successful completion of his mission.

Anthony Farley’s private vehicle came into view.

In an instant, at least sixty anti-aircraft missiles were launched from ambushed Torch Warriors in multiple directions, completely covering the convoy accompanying the Casting General.

Moretti wasn’t sure which vehicle Farley was in, so he was doomed!

The violent explosion destroyed most of the vehicles carrying Farley’s escort; however, one vehicle, under the bombardment, revealed a faint purple ripple.

It was a Void Shield.

Clearly, Farley prioritized his own safety. Having a Void Shield in his private vehicle was perfectly natural.

However, a small Void Shield designed to fit inside a hovercraft was inherently limited in performance.

Six missiles had already blazed bright red, nearly reaching overload.

These six missiles were massive, top-tier individual missiles.

Farai hadn’t anticipated such a ferocious ambush on his own planet.

Following the missiles came a torrent of heavy bolter fire.

The dense barrage of bullets further dented the overloaded void shields, emitting a redder and darker hue. At this stage, a significant number of the explosive rounds had already penetrated the degraded void shields, striking the hovercraft within. The

hovercraft’s armor was thick, but it wasn’t military-grade, and couldn’t withstand such a barrage.

Furthermore, Farai, still inside, sensed a greater danger.

He was now a sitting duck. As long as he remained inside, he would be under constant attack, and he would eventually give in.

To survive, the best option was to get out. The nearly shattered void shields were unlikely to save him.

The car door swung open the next moment, and a hunched figure leaped from the side door. Instantly

, the Space Marines’ firepower converged on it, blasting it mid-air.

But just then, a second figure leaped out.

Lacrosha was the quickest to react, his high-energy plasma sniper rifle poised for fire. With pinpoint accuracy, he struck the second figure.

A purple void shield flashed, confiscating the plasma.

The Space Marines, shifting their firepower, barraged the personal miniature void shield, causing ripples to form.

However, the decoy had distracted them, and the energy they had transferred was insufficient, at least not enough to breach the void shield.

They landed safely and quickly escaped to a nearby ground workshop.

At the same time, Moretti heard the Alliance agent’s warning:

“They’ve sent out a distress signal. You must act quickly! Within five minutes, a large number of rescue units will arrive, and you will be overwhelmed by the endless rescue forces! Unless Farai is dead, our friends can’t help you!”
